While many Indian Restaurants now use short-cuts in their cookery, the chefs at Ma Goa are proud of the fact that each of their dishes are cooked individually, The Kitchen is very much a Family operation - Ma still cooks most mornings while Dee's three children contribute ideas and love to help the chefs!
In 2017, the Kapoor family did a complete overhaul of their successful eatery. Adding a craft beer tap wall and replacing the white table cloths with a rustic, marketplace interior, they have brought Ma Goa back to its roots: fuss-free, authentic food straight from the streets of India.

Genuinely surprised at how good this place is! Brilliant attentive service without being OTT
The food was incredible, especially the seafood biryani (!) and there was a lovely atmosphere. The only downside for us was the service. Although we were served quickly etc. the staff weren’t particularly friendly and we had a surprise when the bill came as we were given a £45 Pinot noir after there was some confusion over the drinks, which we ended up paying for. Apart from that, lovely evening and we weren’t rushed out of the restaurant, which was nice. Will be coming back!
Went on a Saturday night. A very busy place, people coming and going all the time and tables constantly filling up which is a good sign. The restaurant looks small but is bigger than it appears from the front. Informal and rustic setting. Good service and nice food. On the negative side I felt the portions could have been more generous and it is pricey for what you get. Goanese food made a pleasant change from the usual Indian restaurant menus so worth trying out if you're in the Putney area. It's only 5 minutes walk from the mainline station. Craft beers are available. The waitress was adamant she'd brought us the same beer as our previous order but she was wrong, they looked and tasted different. To be fair she did offer to change it but it was said with a touch of attitude so we didn't take it up. I would definitely go back but do remember to book if it's the weekend.
Really good, authentic food in an interesting and different (from most other Indian restaurants) atmosphere.
An excellent Indian-Portuguese restaurant in Putney -well worth a visit! Staff are very welcoming too and the food is great (can ask to make it slightly less tickoo!)
Ma Goa always delivers delicious, soul warming food. Best Indian restaurant for miles!
Enjoyed the food and good night out, very reasonably priced
First time, really enjoyed the experience and the food
Excellent food and fantastic setting, can't believe I've not tried it before. I will be returning and have already been recommending to friends. Love the mix of "street food" setting and approach with genuinely excellent quality food.
Fantastic meal beautiful food - great service and fun atmosphere - starters were wonderful and generous - lamb shanks were fantastic and bread was so nice.
A lovely cosy place with great South Indian food. Great service - will go back.
Excellent authentic Indian food with great service and good value for money
excellent local joint. been coming here for years. it never disappoints and the proprietor is always there. a very good sign in a restaurant. authentic goan cuisine with an imaginative twist. an invaluable place in putney
We have been to this restaurant about 4 times now and it’s always excellent!
Went with 3 work colleagues and had a brilliant time; good food, good portion size, great staff and excellent value. The beer choice was excellent. Thanks for a great evening.
Simply terrific. Sensational food. Lovely people. Hat off to these guys.
Amazing food and atmosphere every time we go for dinner here. Highly recommend!!
Great food, service and superb twist on a regular Indian restaurant. Fantastic around, can't wait to go back
Flavoursome food and not too heavy, good location and music, friendly attentive staff
Not a great wine list, but they open up the off license next door (same ownership) so an exceptional selection of wines available.
Love Magoa great food and great service will definitely be returning
First time to this putney gem : exceeded our expectations on service , friendliness , menu , cooking and presentation.
The food was absolutely delicious, the drinks were great, the service was excellent and there was a great buzz to the restaurant. Would 100% recommend MaGoa to anyone looking for a relaxed restaurant with fantastic food! I was pleasantly surprised
Excellent and slightly different food. Much better than the usual 'curry house' quality. Unusually excellent beer too.
First visit celebrating a family birthday. Food was very good but the service was not. Our main courses arrived half way through our starters! Not good for a first impression! That hasn't even happened in Goa where service can be a bit unpredictable. When I commented that we hadn't finished the waiter did offer to take away the main courses and re-make them, but I didn't want the hassle or extra waiting time. Plenty of staff milling about but none seemed to be too observant of our empty glasses, having previously requested a second round of drinks and reminding them that we were still waiting.
Good food but it would be a better experience if they coordinated their service.
I first went here more than 20 years ago and its reassuring the food is still good BUT the portions are too small (profit?) and the menu has been reduced in terms of choice. Be a bit more generous with the portions and add a bit more choice to the menu and you are back to a winner
Excellent food and great service.... as always. One of my favourite dining places.
In recent times I have developed an aversion to "local curry houses" - all the menus are the same and all the dishes taste the same! I have developed a preference for Indian vegetarian - fresh tasting and different. What a pleasure then to discover Ma Goa, a family run regional restaurant and definitely not vegetarian. A very limited number of dishes on the menu always bodes well, pointing to individual preparation rather than stock sauces ditto the fact that there was much on the menu that was new to me. We were not disappointed. Everything was authentic, seriously good and distinctive. Two special mentions the Dhai Puri starter was reminiscent of the best Indian street food - soft, crispy, crunchy, sweet, sour and savoury with just enough chili heat to set the palate for the rest of the meal to follow. And the Porco Vindaloo - Vindaloo as it should be pork, hot and sour a million miles for the abomination that is served in most curry houses. Great selection of craft ales to complement the food - not a Cobra or Kingfisher in sight! We will be back with friends as soon as we can!
We had an absolutely delicious dinner on a Sunday evening to celebrate my birthday. Good service and exquisite food. Would definitely recommend!
Always a great meal. Out meat eaters were very happy especially with the lamb shank, and the vegetarians in the crowd thoroughly satisfied as well.
Great as always. The people who run it are incredibly accommodating and the food is always fantastic. Not your typical Indian restaurant
I always think the quality of the food is excellent. However, I regret the absence of starched white table cloths and napkins and also the increasing level of noise. I am not keen on the new range of beers and would prefer the Indian Cobra or Kingfisher.
Amazing food and amazing service!! really impressed with the quality of food and will definitely return.
Delicious, fresh and exceedingly tasty goan inspired food. The Lamb Kofta specials were divine.
Good food and great service, we had a lovely time there
Absolutely amazing every time! Favourite Indian restaurant!
The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious although a little on the pricey side. Great place to get together with friends and the staff were very accommodating with our last minute booking.
Lovely little restaurant. Staff very attentive and polite, and the food was really really tasty!!!
Amazing food, superb service, friendly staff and the only way this isn’t 100/100 is they happen to be in Upper Richmond Road which is quite noisy when you’re outside. Still I love going there, and the food is in my experience the best Indian in London.
Very busy restaurant with a lively atmosphere, also had an outside seating area at back of restaurant. All the staff were friendly and efficient. Food served without much waiting. Very tasty and good sized portions. Would go again when in booking he area.
