For over two decades, Deepak Kapoor has strived to achieve a sense of family dining at his Traditional Indian - and Putney staple, Ma Goa. Since its opening in 1993, Dee and his Mother (Ma) have continued to evolve their menu, adapting flavours and cooking with fresh ingredients procured weekly from Tooting Market. Their only rule? Everything must be delicious!
While many Indian Restaurants now use short-cuts in their cookery, the chefs at Ma Goa are proud of the fact that each of their dishes are cooked individually, The Kitchen is very much a Family operation - Ma still cooks most mornings while Dee's three children contribute ideas and love to help the chefs!
In 2017, the Kapoor family did a complete overhaul of their successful eatery. Adding a craft beer tap wall and replacing the white table cloths with a rustic, marketplace interior, they have brought Ma Goa back to its roots: fuss-free, authentic food straight from the streets of India.

Lovely family run business. The food was tasty and well presented. Can't wait to go back again.
A lovely evening, thank you. The service was friendly and efficient and the food delicious.
Wondering how we have lived in Putney for 3 years and not been before!! Highly recommend
Delicious food, great environment with social distancing measures in place
Always amazing. Felt safe & food was lovely. Thanks!
A joy to be back and see Ma Goa back in operation!
Lovely place, great food, every dish has its own delicious character
Food is fantastic and staff are great. Wonderful gluten free food
Food is ok, without being great. The main course of lamb kodi was great. Starters were a disappointment in the main.
Lovely Sunday brunch just not as flavoursome as we’d like - not very spicy a bit bland - but nevertheless good value
Not very impressive "Indian". Have travelled extensively around India and this was a poor imitation. Food - especially the tarka daal - seriously oversalted. Plain rice pointlessly salted.
Ordered a thali each. Pushing calling it that. 4 dishes one (salted) rice one (salted) salad and two side dishes. Small poppadom. Not exactly an all in one meal.
When we flagged this the daal was too salty. It was returned watered down and reheated. We flagged this and that it was still too salty. were advised that could not be the case as everything was fresh and tomato had been added to absorb the salt *rolls eyes*.
Food was excellent, loved that you can enjoy a great bottle of red with dinner too
Great food and good atmosphere
The food took 40 mins to come but was delicious when it did
Great food and atmosphere although the music was quite loud. More expensive than expected but overall very good
Food and flavours excellent, service a bit slow as it was Saturday & lots of takeaways going out at peak time which we noticed as we were sitting by the door.
Fantastic food, as always - we will be back. One of our favourite restaurants in London - distinctive.
Great restaurant, unfortunately they didn't have a note of our reservation, thanks OpenTable..!! However they did seat us anyway, no problem.
We had a wonderful valentines dinner at Ma Goa. Would 100% recommend.
Fantastic food, wonderful staff and a laid back atmosphere. The tarka dahl is simply sublime.
Simply the best Indian restaurant in London.
Service a little slow but it was busy! Lovely atmosphere and food was delicious, great variety of beers on tap. Will definitely be back.
Some of the best food around, good beer, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere.
Lovely atmosphere, great service and delicious fresh food.
Like this place as the food is a bit different and the staff very friendly. Always busy - a good sign - so book in advance!
Nice little local spot, ambience good with great food and drinks.
Fab food, friendly efficient service, great atmosphere. Love this restaurant
Always a great place to eat, not your bog standard curry in any way....really interesting dishes.
Really lovely staff, once they gave us a table in the wine shop next door because they were full....We've been here lots of times and will keep coming back.
In short...Almost not keen to write a good review as it's hard enough to get a table as it is!!
Go...you'll love it!
I always have a lovely time at Ma Goa and it's one of my fave restaurants in Putney! This time I took my dad as he was visiting and everything was delicious - the 4* was only because the dishes were a little too salty! We had the lamb shank, pork vindaloo, and a couple of the small veg dishes (the aubergine and tauri fries). The staff were really attentive and the wine was also great. Can't wait to return!
Lovely place, very stylish and an original presentation of Goan food, such a nice variation from mainstream Indian style dining.
Menu options may feel slightly limited, I appreciated the quality rather than the quantity however, and look out for the specials.
I like this friendly local Indian. The food is always good, the service is great, I really like the staff here. Informal and reliable.
A thoroughly enjoyable, good value meal in this busy restaurant
This is a Putney stalwart. Consistently high standard of food and service. Diverse range of dishes showing individuality and flair.
I have been to Ma Goa many times. As usual, i enjoyed great food and friendly services! Good selection of vegetable dishes.
Excellent food with a creative menu. Nice decor and friendly staff. Looks very busy so make sure you book a table.
The food was simply awesome, we picked this restaurant as the menu was so appealing, there wasn’t anything on it we didn’t want to try, the flavours were just wonderful I just wish this restaurant was next door to my house!
Great food and excellent service. No pork vindaloo however the chef came and talked through other options which was really good. Bit noisy (strange choice of music) and we came out smelling of the meal however this doesn't detract from and overall 5* evening
Outstanding food - only one dish disappointed (the aubergine). Service was very good with a slightly too long gap between first and second courses (we were hungry so that's a minor quibble). Can't wait to go back
Very lucky to have such a great restaurant with a short walk. Very popular so best to book to avoid disappointment. Food excellent, try the 'dressed' popadoms, they are delicious. Good value wine list.
Our service and food were outstanding. We will 100% recommend this to others.
I’m a huge fan of South Indian food and this place doesn’t disappoint. Delicious dishes with varied flavours, (whole spices peeping through) and luscious gravy was bountiful- mopped up with fluffy light flatbread (naan type bread). We enjoyed Bella’s lamb, a prawn and aubergine dish, puris and tauri fries. Accompanying coconut rice was fragrant, pretty and delicately flavoured. A short, but tasty Negroni complimented the food. The icing on the cake for the three of us diners was friendly and discreet service, a rare find these days. Another wonderful evening at this simply delightful restaurant.
