About Ma Goa
For over two decades, Deepak Kapoor has strived to achieve a sense of family dining at his Traditional Indian - and Putney staple, Ma Goa. Since its opening in 1993, Dee and his Mother (Ma) have continued to evolve their menu, adapting flavours and cooking with fresh ingredients procured weekly from Tooting Market. Their only rule? Everything must be delicious!
While many Indian Restaurants now use short-cuts in their cookery, the chefs at Ma Goa are proud of the fact that each of their dishes are cooked individually, The Kitchen is very much a Family operation - Ma still cooks most mornings while Dee's three children contribute ideas and love to help the chefs!
In 2017, the Kapoor family did a complete overhaul of their successful eatery. Adding a craft beer tap wall and replacing the white table cloths with a rustic, marketplace interior, they have brought Ma Goa back to its roots: fuss-free, authentic food straight from the streets of India.

Ma Goa Ratings and Reviews
I was a regular at Ma Goa when I used to live in Putney. It has been 08 years since I left London and I went back to Putney to experience the food. My family has very fond memories of our lunches and dinners at Ma Goa. Was delighted to note that the quality of food has not changed and it remains as tasty as ever. The service is friendly, warm and very customer focussed. I enjoyed our evening at Ma Goa and will be visiting again when I am back in the UK. Highly recommended if you like authentice, home cooked indian food. I am a veggie so cannot speak to the meat dishes but I do know that my family members who eat meat, love their meat dishes as well.
I hope Ma Goa continues to thrive and is around for many many more years to come.
My husband and I have been going to Ma Goa since it opened in the early 90s. The staff and owner have always been friendly, welcoming and efficient. The fresh, authentic food has always been of a very high standard and just delicious, no-it's beyond delicious. Their gin cocktails are a must too- if you don't drink just order one to look at! I love indian food, cook it regularly and Ma Goa is one of the very few Indian restaurants I'm happy to eat at any time. It's hard to suggest a particular dish so go there a few times and just try everything. It's gone down very well with everyone we have taken there or recommended it to.
One of the best Indian restaurants in South London and not to be underestimated. It is the second time of visiting and yet again the food was fantastic (especially the starters) and the service was exemplary. Even though we arrived 30 minutes early by mistake, they still managed to seat us swiftly.
Whenever I am next in the area, I will definitely be heading back there for more. Yum!
An excellent Indian restaurant with amazing food! Beautifully spiced, not too greasy, the dishes are slightly different as they are from the south but for my personal taste even better. we were sitting at the front of the restaurant so not much ambience but suited our purpose as we wanted to talk, I think the back maybe more cosy. Highly recommend.
I booked a table on Christmas Eve for my partner and I. I didn't have huge expectations on the quality food as I've not eaten a really good Indian in a while.. Despite it being my favourite food. However as soon as the first plate arrived and we could smell the spices bursting out of the food and I wanted to get stuck right it... I was in taste bud heaven from the first to last bite of all the meals!! I've since told all my friends to eat there and I won't eat anywhere else now
I've set myself a goal to try every meal in the menu
Very very happy
Chose Ma Goa based on the excellent reviews and convenient location (close to Putney mainline station). Went there on a Saturday night - slick booking process via Open Table even though we booked quite late. Atmosphere was buzzing and service was extremely friendly. Ma Goa has lots of different and interesting options on the menu compared with a standard Indian-style restaurant - if you are after a standard chicken tikka masala made from the same gravy as every other dish then this is probably not the place for you. The food was delicious and we will definitely return.
