Nice small plates and noshes. Also big plates. Nice wines by the glass. I would have liked more greens in my beet salad, but they were accomodating when I asked. My friend had the burger and considered it one of the better ones he's had in a while--big and juicy. Calamari was crisp without being oily. Yeah, I'd go back.

Went there for a Sunday brunch. I had chicken and waffles and my wife had shrimp and grits. Both were excellent. I would have liked a bit more syrup but loved the spiciness of the fried chicken. Their bloody marys were excellent as well so it was a spicy brunch. perfect for a cold day outside. The server was attentive and very prompt, informing us the meal was progressing through the kitchen. We appreciated that touch. Overall, really recommend it for those looking for some excellent Southern cooking at a neighborhood restaurant.

Food was decent but very average. Braised spare ribs had little flavor and brick chicken was soft and bland. Probably won’t be coming back.

This is great place for a quiet romantic dining experience. The food and wine were excellent, along with attentive service. It was my girlfriend's birthday. We could not have been happier with Macon.

The main restaurant area, one visible from the street, has a great atmosphere. However, we were seated in a secondary dinning hall completely separate from the main area. We did not care for this separate area as much and would ask to be seated in the main area in the future. The atmosphere is just different. Food was good but not great. Service was great.

I’ve wanted to try this place for a while and finally had the chance. I grew up in Macon, GA so I’m always looking for true southern food. Macon Bistro did not disappoint! Collard greens on a burger...amazing! I also really enjoyed the biscuits, hard to find good (southern) ones in the DMV.

Love this locally owned, neighborhood restaurant. It's intimate and charming, as opposed to a large dining hall you'll find in many of the new DC restaurants. Staff if polite and personable. It also doesn't hurt that I'm also from the South, love good Southern cooking, and their food (e.g., fried catfish, okra, biscuits) is delicious!!

So this is a very mixed review. First off Our server was an incredibly nice guy. I think this restaurant is just not for vegetarians. I had their veggie platter for around $20 and it was so disappointing! Definitely lacked flavor and was so boring. I was so bummed because this was a special treat for my birthday. I did get the rose drop martini however, which was very tasty. My husband had the burger and he said it was great. Again, if you’re a vegetarian I would look elsewhere

Overall, it was an excellent experience. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The meals were delicious, great Southern character without being too heavy. The restaurant is cozy so the noise level can sometimes make it a bit hard to hear comfortably. The atmosphere is lively.

We went for my husband's birthday. Our server was nice, but the space is so small that our chairs were constantly bumped by servers walking by. My husband liked his food (meat eater), but mine was not great (veggie). The refilled our water every time someone passed by using the bottle on the table -- that was a little awkward. Overall not impressed, especially for the price.

It was restaurant week and we got the price fixed menu which was a really good deal considering the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The wedge salads were average, the salmon and broccolini good, but the short ribs were underwhelming. Desserts were good (chocolate chip cookie) to very good(flourless chocolate cake).

MD abrupt and under pressure when we arrived, sent to small cramped table squeezed into a corner, consistently bumped by servers and other diners , so close to other diners it was embarrasing, server overworked and under pressure but doing the best she could, french onion soup to start arrived cold, mains arrived bus person didnt know who was having what and not aware of specific instruction for one meal, waited 25 mins for desert, server apologized multiple times, in the end gave up and called for the bill , no sign of MD for an apology , people quing to get in , no one to say thank you or good night as we left, way too many tables for small space , too many bookings , not enough staff, all in all lousy experience

This is one of our favorite special occasion restaurants. We did not know it was DC restaurant week when we booked. And it was scant choices on both the Restaurant Week menu and their regular menu.
It was a paltry meal. Nothing special at all about any of the choices. The same old same old formulaic offerings as at any other restaurant: short rib, salmon, chicken, veggie risotto. So why go there if the menu is the same as everywhere else. It is said when the best thing you had was the opening cocktail! It is even worse when this happens at one of your formerly favorite places.

The risotto - which was ordered by 4 of our party of 5 - was terrible. Boiled white rice with what seemed like very few previously frozen cubes of vegetables. It did not seem to be cooked the way risotto should be cooked, slowly and with white wine. The server was excellent and perhaps we should have sent the dishes back and ordered something more in keeping with the strengths of the restaurant.

Terrible food last time we were there. Risotto not made with risotto rice and bathed in glop. Service mediocre. And very loud table next to us. Used to be much better.

Macon B&L is a great find - terrific service, wonderful atmosphere, and good food. Definitely a good spot for a mellow brunch. My only complaint is that the biscuits were not flaky enough.

Food is so good! Unfortunately, service was initially very bad--being ignored upon entrance to the restaurant, treated rudely when trying to order drinks, etc. This may have been because they were short on a server or something, because once our actual server (the one who took care of us for the rest of the night) came into the picture, everything was fantastic. She was prompt, courteous and helpful. I just love the food here. So flavorful and prepared with care. I think we just had one odd little anomaly with the service at first, because I've been here before and never had a problem.

A Great find, and the best brunch in uptown, Washington DC -- perfect for after the Avalon Theatre! And I was a raised by a southern Mom, so I can attest that the food is genuine -- down to the fried okra, and extra thick bacon -- Yum!!/ Biscuits were excellent -- could be EVEN better. I'll be back, again and again.
