Just coming back from Mendoza, Argentina, this restaurant, right in our back yard was a dream come true. They know meat!!!
Good food although the flank stank was cut a little thin and therefore a little bland and tough for my taste. I really liked the restaurant and the attentive staff. We were there on a Friday night and only 4 other tables came in while we were there. This restaurant deserves to have more people visit!
Great food and wine, with the exception of the beef ribs, that were hard and impossible to eat. Still, 4 stars because everything else was excellent, including the dulce de leche crepes.
Amazing Valentine’s Day special and meal. Food was top notch, ambience was cozy and intimate. Definitely recommend.
Excellent meal, steaks were top notch, and the provoleta was quite good. Next time we will try the Milanesas!
Recently saw Malbec in the Weekend section of the Post and went for lunch. We were excited to go since both of us had spent time in Argentia and fell in love with their beef. This is an Argentine restaurant. We met the owner and were promptly seated and served as it was a late weekday lunch. We split the sweetbreads, a salad, and the new york strip. The sweetbreads are to die for and the salad was tasty and not overdressed. The steak was cooked perfectly and tastes way better than any Angus steak you will ever have. We are going back to try the ribeye which they only serve at dinner. Go here if you want a great steak!
This was such a fun and wonderful night out! Definitely recommend for a date night!
Food was excellent and features grass fed beef. Not at all crowded.
Good food and I enjoyed it. No qualms there. It gets my recommendation and the salmon was very good. But for a Friday night, it was very quiet. There was only one table when we were seated. More people filled in during the next two hours but it was far from packed. Hope more people check it out.
Loved absolutely everything about Malbec. The low low noise level that made our dinner for two cosy and romantic, the low lit warm and plush decor, the unobtrusive yet very attentive service, the comprehensive wine list and the delicious and perfectly cooked steaks. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in DC now
The steaks here are amazing. Service was great too. However, my only complaint is to check your receipt several days afterwards. Server somehow charged $20 more to the tip even we left cash tip and WROTE “cash” in the tip section. Very disappointed with the manager who promised to fix it but nothing got refunded after two weeks. We ended up calling the credit card to dispute.
Delicious food, incredible service
Second time at Malbec! Such a lovely find with beautiful ambience for getting together with close friends.
Very good food; attended by the owner. Quality food, great atmosphere
We ordered a Malbec. It was so reasonable and so tasty. And the chimichurri was awesome.
Our filet was very good but not cooked as ordered.
The rib and flank steaks were over cooked but i don’t know if less cooking would have mattered. They had no flavor. The arugula salad had no flavor I literally added salt and pepper. The mashed potato was light and fluffy but again no seasoning.
I was so hopeful but this evening our food was lacking.
Certainly not the Argentine experience i was hoping for
Wonderful food and fantastic service. This is more of a traditional Argentine restaurant, they do NOT bother you unless you need something. Don't complain about being left alone and not rushed.
Great beef empanadas, milanesa and panqueques con dulce de leche
The service was top notch and the manager was great. The wine and beef tasting here was great. Altho I couldn't eat the dessert to it having coconut in it I would definitely recommend my friends to Malbec.
Interesting Argentine steakhouse. Well worth a trip. The steak was excellent, a slight difference to domestic beef. I liked it. The staff was friendly. Ordered a Medium Rare rib eye, it was perfect! Generous portions, excellent red sangria, very good soup. I was there 2 times in one week, I will be back for more.
Everything was awesome: the food, the service. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the speed in which we were served. Don't get me wrong, the wait staff was awesome and extremely friendly, but the preparation of the food seemed slower than it should have been, especially when there were the first table in the restaurant and by the time we finished dessert there were four tables occupied. Try the Lomo (Argentinian beef) and the flan for dessert. Both are 10 stars in my book!
Great food, good service, great wine. We did the prix fixe menu which was an amazing deal, enjoyed every bite with perfect wine pairings.
This is my second time at Malbec. First time was great. This second time was really bad. My steak was overcooked. My girlfreind's bife de chorizo was also really bad, much more than rare (and cold)
Nice environment and great food. The flavors are truly argentinean. Some tables are a bit closer together but ok. The empanadas are delicious. So is the parrillada. Alas no chinchuliness. The panqueques de dulce de lecher are perfect. The rum ones could use some sugar and be hotter. Still I would highly recommend this place.
Excellent Argentinian “Asado”, meat imported from Argentina, real churrasco and vacio. Very well executed and true to Argentinian cuisine. We loved it. Will return next time we are in DC
Great meats. We loved the sausages, lamb and beef! Great service as well. We’ll be back!
Quiet, intimate setting that isn't packed on a Saturday evening. More inexpensive than most for the ambience and quality of food. It's a place for a solid, quality meal, which is the type of place I prefer, however it is not a high end steak house that'll set you back a day's wages. They have a robust specials section on the menu that I highly recommend you take a look at. Browse the Argentine meats as that is what they tout.
Excellent service and food was great,
I really recommend...
Just having some delicious meats with friends. Great space and fantastic service.
What a wonderful find! This Argentine Steakhouse imports its beef straight from Argentina. My husband and I drove over an hour to come here and celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. The ambiance is lovely. They sat us at a small quaint table by the window. We ordered chorizo and empanadas as appetizers and I had the Bife de Lomo Kabobs served with Basmati Rice and my husband had the Milaneda served with mashed potatoes. The food was excellent! The owner even brought us a complimentary glass of champagne to help us celebrate! It's a wonderful restaurant and look forward to coming here to celebrate again!
Excelente todo. Fuimos a cenar comida argentina. Delicioso.
Warm and friendly service with the authentic taste of Argentinia. Didn't want the meal to end!
As an Argentinian, I can say the food was far from having Argentinian standards. The chorizos were not argentinian chorizos. The meat was cold, and not seasoned at all, completely bland. I was looking forward to the empanadas. The empanadas might be the worst of the menu, insulting I would say. Hard, almost not filled, very bad. I am sorry to say there was nothing in the food that was good. Very dissapointing
We are regulars and always look forward to a night out at Malbec.
Nice outdoor seating but several menu items such as empanadas and picanha were out.
We ordered parillada only to discover that the sweetbread was replaced by more meat however we were only made aware of this after looking for it on the platter
I loved my meal. The restaurant was eerily quiet and there were very few guests on a Friday night. I found the food to be exceptional. Service was a bit slow. I look forward to a return visit! Get the short ribs!
Great place the food and service was excellent!
Steak was a little over cooked. For such a pricey menu I would expect more.
Great service. Great food
My husband and I went to Malbec looking for a local restaurant that would live up to our memories of Argentinian steakhouses. The tenderloins were very good (a tad over our requested medium rare), and they even served them with the chimichurri sauce. The prices were reasonable and the wine selection was fantastic, if you like Argentinian reds (which we do). The chocolate cake with ice cream was moist and delicious - and we would go back just for that. Biggest drawback is the lack of parking in the area, but there are plenty of garages within a short walk at Dupont Circle. I highly recommend Malbec if you are looking for a good steak at a reasonable price.
Luis was a superb waiter. He was patient, helpful, and exceedingly accommodating. I would return just to have him as a waiter. First rate, top notch.
The food was good, but something was a bit off. I've tasted similar food, that I'd actually cooked myself, when I'd cooked the chicken or beef too quickly, maybe hadn't let it temper to room temperature. I think the restaurant deserves a second chance, as it's local, and Luis is absolutely first rate.
