Malmaison Brasserie - Birmingham
Had the Miso soup, Linguine with prawns, and the sauteed mushrooms all faboulous no photos 🤦🏽♀️I remembered after I polished them off 🤗 great food and service.
Our reservation was not on the restaurant record so it was a bit stressful at the start, given we were a small bridal party. They managed to find us a table and the rest of the evening was lovely
What a disappointment... firstly, one placemat on our table was frayed and had seen better days. We asked to have it changed and were told they didn't have any others, there was no attempt to replace it from another empty table (they were not full) the waitress just took it away. Her attitude was emphasized as the meal continued, she just didn't care. Trying to attract her attention was difficult, she preferred chatting to the manageress and this was noticed by other guests as well.
The meal itself was edible, but nothing to write about and no-one seemed particularly interested.
A real shame, good ingredients cooked poorly on the whole, from cremated rib eye to overcooked then undercooked scallops. Real Shame as last time there a couple of years ago all was good
Great food very poor service!
To start they didn't have the reservation down, they said there is something wrong with opentables system. My starter was cold and the waiter had to wipe the seats down of left over food from the people sitting there before. As the table wasn't ready we had to wait in the bar. Not an enjoyable experience wouldn't recommend.
BE CAREFUL. MALMAISON IS GREAT BUT OPENTABLE FAILED TO PUT THE BOOKING THROUGH. As I’ve seen on other reviews, no contact was made with Malmaison by opentable so they hadn’t got my booking. Luckily we had plenty of room to sit and the meal was lovely. I had mackerel and the presentation was worthy of Masterchef! Great service and good price from the fixed price menu
Please try it but book directly not through Opentable especially for Sunday
Turned up at 2.30pm to be told they had no record of my open table booking. Showed it the lady on my phone, she told me not to use Open Table as this often happened and I should book directly. I told her I liked using Open Table as its easy. She just shrugged.
Sat down at 3pm. Service was generally very average, took 25 minutes for our drinks to come to the table, not great when its 30 degrees outside.
Food was ok. Set Sunday menu. Wouldn't go back to be honest as service was poor.
Staff behind the bar have one pace. Very slow. Don't seem motivated to serve quickly or really to smile, which is a shame. They were nice enough. Just slow. Looked fed up and didn't want to be working on a Sunday.
We all enjoyed our food, the ribeye steak was delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly without being intrusive and we will definitely return.

Good service but food pricy for portion size. Music a little too loud for a decent conversation but ok if your used to loud bars.
Booked a table in the restaurant only to find it was separated from the bar by a sheer curtain. DJ playing thumping music at full volume the entire night ruined our meal - sore throat from shouting at my dining companion to be heard. That together with the extremely slow service ruined the night.
Restaurant is not linked to app. Booking did not go through. Called restaurant and manager said they could fit us in if we brought evidence (but not at the same time) . Turned up at said time and the manager had booked us in for day before! They seated us still though. But I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about as there were alot of empty tables all night. Food was good but everyone's was a bit too salty. Ambience is nice.

Sadly very poor. Wouldn't go again. Customer service was non existent even though it was quiet. Weren't given spoons to eat deserts with. Had to make do with tea spoons I had to ask at the bar for,
Not sure it was Malmaison’s fault but they didn’t have our booking through open table, luckily they fit us in and everything about the dining experience was great. Just had an awkward few minutes when my daughters 16th Birthday treat newly went south. Also perhaps the music from the bar area was far too loud and distracting.
Always have cold food here - sent back twice and still cold - staff tend to not care at all. We live in mailbox and it's a shame it's always the same
We had a confirmed booking through opentable and arrived as booked. We were then told that "the system has been down for 2 weeks..." We were then told that we should have had a cancellation e-mail with the thinly veiled accusation that we were to blame for there being no booking. We showed the host the confirmation e-mail and all subsequent e-mails but still no acceptance that we were not in the wrong.
So poor I can't describe it- had a great lunch at Miller and Carter in the Mailbox instead!!
Really pleowe we’re unable to get a table at our first choice. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely will be back. Good food quality. Only downside is that they didn’t acknowledge my sons birthday
Nice meal and very attentive staff ... very noisy for bar area , but were tucked away so less of an issue. Food was good, quick service
Lunch offer now does not include dessert which is a shame as it was a great deal before. I was told that the buffet was enhanced however it seemed to exactly the same as it was 4 weeks previously . My partners beef rather than being well done was massacred instead. A strange taste to the carrots also spoiled the lunch.
Its a real shame as this is our go to restaurant when we visit Birmingham.
Excellent once again
I booked a meal x 7 people using the open table app. The day of the meal, 3 hours before dinning I received a telephone call from the restaurant asking me to provide pre-orders as the kitchen closed at 10.30 on Fridays. I explained that at such short notice I was not able to get pre-orders from 7 people all travelling from various locations. The lady said she would check and call me back. I did not receive a telephone call, I tried calling the restaurant myself as i was panicking and not sure if we still had a table or not?? I arrived at the restaurant earlier than the rest of the party and explained that I had not received a confirmation telephone call and was told that the lady did not have time to call me back. Very disappointing when arranging a meal for 7 people in total on a busy Friday evening and not knowing if I still had a booking or not!!
Was a little disappointed with the meal as a whole... Took family member for a retirement meal. The service was alright but we kept being given the wrong items around the table (attention to detail). The main (lamb) was really fatty and had to be removed for the bill as it was not enjoyable. We didn't stay for dessert. Disappointed coz I have had previously had a good experience at the restaurant.
When we turned up there was no record of our booking so not a great start. Ordered burgers which were too well done and we weren't asked how we would like them either.
Good food and service. More of a party atmosphere than romantic.

Malmaison has gone from an upmarket bar and restaurant to what can only be described as a wetherspoons. Menu was very limited. I have had better microwave meals. The sound of the DJ in the main bar did not allow for any type of conversation during the meal. Incredibly disappointed and definately will not be visiting again. A waste of £100 pounds!

Food was first class and the service good although the atmosphere was good the music was very loud and the choice not to everyone's taste.

Food is terrible. It's not a fusion restaurant but there are tempura shrimps? The tempura was soggy and thicker than my shrimp. The risotto was wayyyyy too salty and the steak extras £1.5 garlic butter is literally oil with a tiny piece of garlic shaving floating on it. I don't know how this restaurant has been given such high rating. It's bad to the point for me to leave an online review for the first time ever. £140 tab down the drain.
Is basically a high end hotel restaurant and feels like that. Service was very good and staff were knowledgeable and accommodating but the food was at best average in presentation and flavour. If I was staying at the hotel full board it would be adequate but to go there for a restaurant meal I found it overpriced for the standard it achieved.
Me and a friend had a wonderful evening. Definitely worth a visit
Great food. Good service. However too noisy for us. Friday and Saturday have a DJ at the bar adjacent so not great for quiet conversation.

Food was delicious, the cocktails again was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their food and enjoyed it. Was a lovely evening and will definitely be coming back very soon.

Saturday night the noise level was such that it interfered with our ability to order our food and drink. The waiter misheard vin blanc as "plonk"! The fish tartare and tempura - the best starters, the monkfish was variously cooked between perfect and overcooked. We felt that the portions of cheese were verging on slivers of not great cheese. We left before coffee, as the noise level was intrusive at best. I love music, but this was just deafening noise managing even to distort my favourite Daft Punk track. .......so never at the weekend, worth a visit midweek, when less noise and you can use a Gourmet Society Card
Service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious from starter to desert.
