Manicomio Chelsea opened its doors in 2003. It is set on the buzzy Duke of York Square, set back from Sloane Square and the iconic Kings Road. Housed in a historic Grade II listed building that was formerly the Royal military asylum- the origin of Manicomio’s playful name (Italian for madhouse).
Renowned for serving simple yet elegant Italian food in the attractive dining room, bar and – weather permitting- the expansive terrace. The adjoining Manicomio Café offers a pared-down version of the restaurant’s menu- available to enjoy in either the café, conservatory, courtyard or terrace or as take away.
Manicomio’s enthusiastic passion for all things Italy- with a strong focus on provenance, quality and taste - has seen the Manicomio family grow to two more successful sites, each with their own identity- Manicomio in St Pauls and Canto Corvino in Spitalfields.

ManiComio never disappoints. Charming service , delicious food and chic but relaxed atmosphere. A happy place to have a quick lunch or a formal dinner.
Lovely ambience.
So sorry you are going into another lockdown - stay safe!
Despite the covid restrictions, we had a really lovely evening at Manicomio. The staff and the meal were excellent.
Manicomio has made a huge effort for outside dining. They have heaters, blankets and the place looks lovely with lots of lights. Highly recommend it the food is great and the service really excellent.
Lovely outdoor space, with heaters and distanced from
Other tables. Very nice ambience, and great service.
We were sat outside but there was a heated and sheltered from the wind so was great. There was lots of choice on the menu. The food was fresh, flavourful and nicely served. I really recommend this restaurant.
We like this lace a lot Food is delicious, service friendly, good energy. It one of our favorite local restaurant.
Good enough for Gordon Ramsay and good enough for me. We both agreed the food and service were excellent.
Excellent service, good atmosphere, everyone Covid sensitive but not too heavy handed. Manager kept a close on everyone, made sure customers were satisfied. Good seasonal menu. Have already invited another friend to go back with me!
Great food and service outside
Despite all the COVID limitations we had a lovely lunch in very comfortable surroundings
A great spot with fantastic outside dining! Definitely would revisit
Wonderful location and exceptional outside space in Duke of Yorks Square. Professional and charming service and always delicious good. Highly recommend.
Absolute treat to be eating inside a restaurant with tablecloths. Excellent wine menu , great service. I chose lobster pasta which I have tried before.really great flavours and an overall experience.
Once again great food and service alwaysca delight
Excellent location and service at a difficult time made a very enjoyable lunch.
Great food and service. Nice wines too. Will be back
Very pleasant neighbourhood restaurant, very nice staff and they seemed to be taking all the right precautions.
Amazing service and restaurant, will definitely go back
Service was unbelievably good. Nothing was too much trouble.
Service was below average. On my arrival, I hadn’t made any reservation, so I asked if it would be possible to have a table for two outside, and your hostess said that was fully booked, even though there are 5 empty tables. Because of covid, we didn’t want to seat inside so we left. For our surprise, when we checked online there was table outside available. We did book online and went back to the restaurant. On our second arrival (10minutes after the first one) we said we had a made a online reservation and we sat outside. After 30min started raining and even though there were tables available outside under the parasol, they moved us inside. Again, I don’t know the criteria applied.
All great as usual
Long may it stay open
Looking forward to next time
We had a very nice lunch outside under an umbrella.
We all ordered a salad with pancetta, cheese and fig. All 3 of us ordered a ‘large’ but when it arrived the portion was very small - even served on a side plate!
We told the waitress that we had ordered main course not starters and she insisted that these were main course size.
It tasted very nice but was ridiculously small.
Lunch with my support bubble - perfect
Another very enjoyable meal under difficult circumstances. They have done their best with outdoor seating and spacing, and dispite a chilly and rainy day it all worked very well. The food as always was interesting and delicious.
Service was exceptional.
Excellent location with good food and service. Also managed outside eating in reasonable comfort in spite of very difficult weather.
Waitress was very rude from the start. We asked if you could add another chair and the reply was simply no without even giving an explanation. They refused to serve us wine without ID even though we are eating and some of us had ID on then. When ordering the waitress kept correcting our pronunciation of the Italian dishes. Menus were taken from the table and she didn’t ask if we wanted any starters first. After all this fuss, one of the plates were wrong but we didn’t complain as the night was already ruined. At the end when desserts arrived, the waitress said she head it was someone birthday. It made all of us very uncomfortable since she was listening to our conversation the whole night. Overall poor and very rude service!
Menu is different to online and my vegan breakfast was tiny. A meal for for 5 year old child.
Always a good service.
Excellent food and service.
Best food in the area; good service - what more can you ask for?
The outdoors area is fantastic - comfortable heaters, the plexiglass makes it almost feel indoors and private.
Great location , nice large heated outdoor area. Food is nice but there could be more vegetarian choices. Spiedini di mare and steak both very nice.
I have just returned from an excellent lunch and wanted to thank you and particularly your Rumanian sommelier - for making this a memorable occasion-
the wines she suggested were excellent and the food was superb. by chance you were able to seat us in the open part of the garden so it became almost a private dining room
once again many thanks
Food was served so raw, couldn’t cut through it and very little apology from our rude & almost arrogant waiter. Very disappointing. Had the matter been handled in a considerate and polite manner there would have been no problem but the waiters attitude spoilt the evening.
Fantastic experience. Great food and location. Recommended!
excellent food and service, we'll go back for sure
thanks
Great place to go in Chelsea - tucked away by the Saatchi Gallery
A very enjoyable late lunch with excellent service.
