In the 15th Century, Prince Henry the navigator ordered his explorers to bring back to Portugal any exotic fruits, nuts and plants from the new lands. Tomatoes and potatoes are taken to Europe, Brazilian pineapples were introduced to Azores, Brazilian chili peppers grew in Angola, African coffee was transplanted to Brazil.
Today the Portuguese fondness for ingredients like cinnamon or curry powder, is also a legacy of his time. The Romans brought wheat and introduced onion, garlic, olives and grapes. Later the Moors were the first to plant rice and introduced figs, planted groves of lemons, oranges and almond trees. Portugal is a seafaring nation with a well-developed fishing industry trading cod since the 15th century.
Today, naturally, Portuguese cuisine varies from region to region , but fresh fish and shellfish are found on virtually every menu. BOM APETITE!!!!
Food was fresh and very tasty. There was a fascinating variety. Service was charming. Beef in shish kebab was outstanding. Paelha very good and abundant, although the chicken was a little dry. I would definitely go back, one of the beteter restaurants in the area.
Nice that they have parking available. Food was very good, shrimp in garlic sauce and paella and mariscada all very good . Surprised no lobster on menu but they have a Thursday night lobster special . Sangria was excellent . Flan and coffee were a perfect ending . Will definitely return .
Went there with friends over dinner. Food was ok ...not bad but disappointed on the expected EUROPEAN taste ... service was poor , restaurant was full and it seems they struggle in managing that many customers at once
Went with family for a birthday celebration - we were very pleased overall. Atmosphere was upscale but not cold. Food was delicious and we were all thrilled that it was not overly salted as the food at many Spanish/Portuguese restaurants tend to be. Fully plan on returning!
Had dined there previously on many occasions. No bib for the seafood (Mariscada). One of the diners in our party did not receive a key ingredient (Chorizo) in his fish until he was finished eating.
Had an incredible experience at Mar Belo! Wait staff were friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and there are many options to suite any taste. Ambiance and decor in the restaurant make for a pleasant and comfortable environment. Would definitely return again!
Food is a welcome treat.
Try the mussels.
Cod cooked very well.
Lobsters were great
Sangria very good
Great place for a special occasion! We love their food and the service is always wonderful.
Enjoyed the food, fresh and delicious (aside only from the slightly overdone shrimp app) . The service was outstanding and big portions of great fish! Yummy experience, would def. go back!
This was our first time at Mar Belo and we really enjoyed it! The food was fantastic. My wife’s Mariscoto in green sauce was the best she’s ever had. My Arroz con pollo was top shelf as well. Service was a bit slow as it was busy, but it didn’t ruin the experience.
Steak night is great! Filet was cooked to order! Sangria is delicious.
Food excellent ,seating in regard to reservation was on target. Service extremely good even with a very busy restaurant. Our friends enjoyed experience immensely and plan to return soon
Have been going to Marbelos for many years. Food and service always top notch. Have hosted several parties here and always satisfied 😌
Service was great. Food simply excellent. Been there twice and will go again.
We had a great time, seafood and steaks food were delicious. They need to work on the kids meatballs, no flavor just tasted like meat? Really like this restaurant and their daily specials!
Mar Belo is consistent over time. This most important when setting expectations.
Mar Belo meets or exceeds expectations.
The mussels, scallops and phalia are terrific.
Food was served hot and delicious, although the wait for it was long. Servers( 3) were very pleasant, but very overworked, serving 2 rooms and an outside area.
We took our son and daughter in law out to celebrate their anniversary. These are two people who dine at fine restaurants in Manhattan, but they really enjoyed everything Mar Belo had to offer, from food, to wine, to service.
Very good food, fairly priced wine list and upscale atmosphere. The staff was pleasant and accommodating though the service was a bit slow.
Food great service excellent
Food was amazingly delicious and for a very affordable price.
Everything was outstanding from to food to the service. Highly recommend the Garlic Shrimp and the Zarzuela
Nothing is better than dining at Mar Belo when you are near the Long Branch area of the Jersey Shore. You can sit outside and enjoy appetizer dishes of chorizo, garlic shrimp, clams, grilled octopus... and follow that up with one of their great seafood or steak entrees. One of our favorites!!
Waiter was very nice the room had a loud party going on
The food was good and I would go back but preferably sit in the other room not the off side room
Service was a bit slow but I wasn’t in a rush and it might have been bc of the party
The shrimp risotto was excellent
Food was excellent. Timed perfectly. Sangria was delicious. Will definitely be back!
We went there and had a 7 o’clock reservation, they never told us that the kitchen was backed up at least a half hour until we sat down at our table at 7:30. Ordered a drink, then the waiter told us that the kitchen was backed up. They should at least have bought us our cocktails. We paid our bill and left. Very, very unprofessional.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone... The food was excellent, very friendly and accommodating staff. Has an old world charm to it.
My 2nd time there, we love the food & service, price is great too. Really enjoyed oursekves.
Great meal and service, took a little while to get food, but was a busy Saturday night.
Went there Sat. night before going to the movies. My husband ordered a steak medium, however, it was a bit overcooked. That was the reason for the 3. Last time we were there was 2 weeks before and his steak was cooked better.
Mar Belo has a wide menu of choices.
The mussels are terrific.
Soft shell crab with mango delicious.
NY Strip delightful.
Carlos and Henry provided the table with a little something extra.
Excellent food and service. Definitely will be going back and bringing friends.
We've been enjoying Mar Belo for some time, now. We both enjoyed lobster night. Chorizo is a little overpriced but good. Chocolate cake could have been a little bigger. We will return.
Its Thursday and its Lobster Night at Mar Belo, you will not get a better broiied lobster anywhere
Yes I said broiled not boiled. I hate boiled lobster Mar Belo is the only place that makes broiled lobster that is incredible
Two Lobsters Spanish potatoes what more do you want. This is the best lobster that you will get anywhere in our area
End of Review
As always fabulous. Never disappoints.
Outstanding in every regard - among the best paella marinera ever!
Carlos was our server. He is so amazing and is always on point. The food was excellent!
