Marco Polo Italian Restaurant & Delicatessen
A lunchtime menu would be appreciated and may make the place busier.
Wonderful lunch. Catered for a group of family and friends perfectly. House white is great, starters tasty and loved the variety on offer. Will come back.
Dinner with work colleagues. Good food, nice menu. Service was ok. Convenient for work but I wouldn’t make the effort to visit otherwise.
Great location on the river, great sized food portions and good quality, very helpful staff, lovely interior restaurant, fab decking to sit outside for the warmer evenings! A little on the expensive when it comes to main courses - otherwise, couldn't fault this place and would definitely go back.
Food was very good
Service was very poor
Amazing as always
Having been here a number of times I have to say we were thoroughly disappointed. The service (considering it was Mothering Sunday) was awful. They hardly spoke to us and we had to ask for our drinks a number of times before we got them. Food was ok, but due to service and ambience we did not enjoy it!
Brilliant and friendly service. the food was amazing quality and perfect quantity. The lighting was just right and the overall atmosphere was relaxing.
We were lucky and picked an outstanding warm sunny february lunchtime. the choice of wine was great as were our choices and the food delicious. They were busy but we managed to catch the waiters eye when we needed to.
Everything about my experience was amazing I would recommend to everyone I know. The Calamari was crispy yet still buttery soft that alone was a compliment to the chef and I had the grilled sea bass for my mains it was absolutely divine. I will be back food and service was extremely good it's a no brainer you need to be here!
Great customer service, our waiter was very attentive and took great care of us. Food was brilliant and cooked to perfection.
Very good food and the service of the staff are excellent, they really look after the customers, great hospitality!
Went to Marco Polo for a family birthday celebration with children. Staff were friendly and entertained the children. Amazing choice on the menu - it took us a while to decide, including the kids menu!
We have been eating at Marco Polo since just after it opened. The food and service are still excellent and it offers good value for money.
The pizza was delicious and the children ate all their food (they are quite fussy!) although my friends pasta looked like it had been sitting out for a while. Quite expensive.
The restaurant is down by the river and tends to be busy during weekend days but often overlooked at night. Once again we had a very good dinner, the food was fantastic and the staff very efficient, friendly and helpful. Great night out.
Very good service, very good food. A little bit more expensive but a lot better than your average Italian restaurant.
As usual, we had another really enjoyable lunch, great food, and a lovely sunny day!
I and my wife had her birthday dinner here. Can't fault location, view and interiors - quite nice, especially the large patio area near the river.
Look, the food wasn't bad (with English standards); produce was very fresh and texture (we had fish) perfect. Presentation - pass. BUT, it lacked taste. Chef seemed to, either lack imagination and creativity, or simply forgot seasoning, including salt. A souce would have been appropriate. We both left with just "fish taste" in our mouths...
Service: well, we were not kept waiting - it was quite normal (just enough time to finish starters). But, waiting staff NEEDS training. Let's get one things straight: they're not italian. They're east european. Nothing wrong with that per se. But, they need to be trained in how to communicate with customers, if you have any ambition to pass as a "fine" restaurant. In a way, I guess it was good that our waiter "made his prescence known to us" (as it can sometimes be irritating what you cant get a hold of anyone). But he kept walking up and down between the tables, standing behind us and humming etc. in a way that was quite irritating. Also, he got very stressed when asked to recommend a dish. True enoguh, "we might not like what he likes", but really, in a "fine" restaurant we expect a different answer (delivered in a more "communicative" way).
If you can only work with some of your staff (including your chef), it could be a really good place for anyone to like (and make that "automatic" service charge warrented). I would give it a second chance.
Uninterested staff, average food, poor ambiance inside with what sounded like a tinny radio on, and massively overpriced for what it was. Massive shame as location is excellent.
I have visited this restaurant before and enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. Hence I decided to book it to celebrate my Mother's 60th birthday. Unfortunately it was one big disappointment, and could not have been further from my previous experiences. The waiter who showed us to our table was so impolite and hostile towards me - it appeared to me and to the rest of our party that he had taken some sort of immediate dislike to me, for no reason. He rolled his eyes repeatedly and seemed to go out of his way to make us uncomfortable. He also showed us to a table laid for 4, even though we had booked for 5 and a highchair - and when we asked for an additional seat and a highchair, it seemed as though this was a great annoyance to him. He came over to take our order and then just disappeared - seemingly because my very young daughter dared to make a noise. He told me we could not move tables (we requested this not to be difficult, but to get out of the very hot direct sunlight). He said in 15 mins the sun would move and we would all be in the shade - the opposite was true and we were all soon sitting in the baking July sun - including my toddler daughter. He also told me we could not sit inside, as it was closed - even though we could see people eating inside. Aside from our grievances with this particular waiter, there were other issues too - in my previous experiences at this restaurant, the staff have made a real fuss for special occasions - I was expecting this sort of treatment as we had made a point of letting them know it was for a 60th birthday - but there was nothing. A big, big disappointment and a bewildering experience with a very rude and hostile waiter.
I have often eaten there especially on nice days, I love the calves liver. The service was good and I had no reason not to give it a good review even having read previous negative ones. It can get very busy there and sometimes a wait but they have always been attentive.
Fabulous location right on the river and free from cars. Great food too. We will be back.
Chaotic service, no Italian ambience, food appeared tired as it had been sitting for ages, not cooked as ordered. All main dishes appear to be served with roast potatoes in anonymous sauce.
Booked on open table and then waiter laughed and said they didn’t accept booking after 6pm (even though slots were available every 15 minutes) - yet people who didn’t book in front of us were seated instantly. Service was extremely slow, 30 minutes for water. Main course arrived and starters were forgotten.
The service is not very good at this restaurant. However, it does have lovely views overlooking the river. We ordered bread and olives for a starter and they decided to give us a more expensive dish in the hope that we wouldn’t notice.
Let's face it, World Cup Finals, Wimbledon Finals and it was hot!! This may be why some of the waiters appeared to be a little frazzled. It's a wonderful location and the food was good. We will try this restaurant again.
Lovely place for a family get together . Extensive menu, catered for young and old alike . Wonderful position right on the river
The food was good by the service appalling. We were seated indoors and promptly left to our own devices while staff were assigned to serving outdoor tables. There didn't even seem to be a manager on site to restore some sort of balance.
Lovely setting and lovely food but was super busy Monday night so service was rushed and lax. Very inattentive. Also they had run out of most icecream varieties so we cancelled that order but they never took it off the bill which we did not notice until later. Bit disappointing all round to be honest.
This restaurant should be fantastic as the location is wonderful and the food is good. However EVERY time I go (and I will probably stop going now) the service is terrible. The staff are pleasant and welcoming but really slow, inattentive and don't listen - you often have to repeat your order and ask several times if you need more water etc. One waiter on Monday asked me three times between the entrance and our table (c. 30 feet) what my name was and had we booked. Really frustrating. Service takes for ever so don't think about going there if you are in a rush. They do get busy but on Monday there were only 3 tables and it was still really slow. Such a disappointment as I live close by and would like to go more often
Our new favourite restaurant!! Great ambiance and delicious, thin crust pizza.
He food was good and as the sun was shining we sat outside. Great to be near the river. Service was poor which was the only disappointment. Nice for weekend lunch or dinner in summer when the sun is out
our 3rd visit and once again enjoyable in all respects. It is also very convenient for a meal after catching the river boat clipper to the pier only 10 metres from the restaurant.
The service was at a level of shockingly bad that I really thought no longer existed in london or at least anywhere that is still in business. We asked for water, glass of wine, where our starters and mains were three times, finally gave up waiting for the bill and got up and paid it. Ina strangely British way I did not ask for the service charge to be removed but was so keen to get out of there and home I couldn’t be bothered. Shame as my spaghetti Vongole was really good when I got it, the weather was lovely and so was the setting. I will never go back though. Hopeless.
Fantastic food in a lovely restaurant.
A really lovely meal in a restaurant set right by the Thames in a select 'causeway' area with other bars nearby. Reasonably priced for such a location and we were well looked after. Highly recommend it. Superb food.
We arrived before any rush but had pre-booked, we were served in good time but once the place filled up everyone behind us were complaining about the long wait and the waiters need to lean how to speak English & smile too.
They should have more staff at the busy periods other than that the food served was tasty and so was the Strawberry Cider.
Nice terrace, but food and service very average. Nice atmosphere inside.
