Mari Vanna DC
We met our guest who was already seated on the 3rd level since there was a special event on the 2nd. When hostess greeted us, she simply showed us the stairs without escorting us up. First level is really just a bar from what we could tell. Some high tops for seating, but definitely a rowdy, bar atmosphere not conducive to dining (or certainly not conversation). Specialty cocktails are $22, so we opted for a shot of infused vodka (very good) for $7 each. Wine prices, on the other hand, were quite reasonable. The dumpling appetizer we wanted took over 20 minutes to prepare, so we opted for a different one (which was quite tasty). Meals were ordinary and served at room temperature. I am guessing that was because they had to be delivered to the 3rd floor...Cherry dumplings for desert were delicious.
The quality of the pickled plate has dropped. The presentation and taste are not the same. Also they do not serve potato pancakes anymore
Always great. Excellent service. Beef stroganoff and borscht was fantastic. Fun place to be.
Steak is excellent
I love that place, and go there each time I get the opportunity - usually it's pre-theater dinner. The food is great, service is great as well - what more do you need? There is also live music (the guy with accordion comes around 7 pm), and, in case you care, nice selection of homemade vodka. I don't drink vodka at all, but I make an exception for theirs horseradish one.
The food was not fresh at all. We all felt sick afterwards. I like the interior decorations and the taste of the food but feeling sick is not fun.
Homey food for those with Russian in their blood. All the favorites. You could be in St. Petersburg with the accordionist playing.
The food js good and the place looks very nice
I try to go to Mari Vanna every time I visit DC. I have Slavic roots and I love their food - comforting, warm, delicious, reminds me of home and my family.
Service was outstanding. Very attentive and they had a nice chocolate surprise for my daughter’s birthday. The pelmeni was perfect. As good as any in Moscow. The blinis were also very good and would recommend them. The stroganoff was good but a bit more fresh dill would make the dish excellent.
Good beer and wine list.
Next time I look forward to some of the Georgian offerings.
TLDR: Fast service, delicious food, great ambiance
We loved this restaurant! The decor is warm and homey, and an accordian player occasionally comes around and plays for the patrons. Our waitress was attentive and the service was quick. The food... oh my goodness the food. We ordered the Pirozhki (4 rolls) as an appetizer and I think I could have eaten 30. I got the beef stroganoff with mashed potatoes which made my eyes tear up with happiness with the first few bites. We'd absolutely come here again.
Hostesses were fantastic. All spoke Russian and English . Food was just like if you were in Moscow. I'll go again.
Chicken Kiev was excellent. Beautiful decor.
My fav place in DC. The atmosphere is great and the restaurant is beautifully decorated.
Wonderful authentic Russian food in a relaxed setting with Old World charm! Our second time here and we will be back!
Fantastic food. I used to lived in Eastern Europe so I was looking for some nostalgia and the food hit the spot.
Great place to experience authentic Russian food. I brought my colleagues for business lunch, they enjoyed the food; many tried Russian for the first time. Highly recommend!
I'd recommend it with one caveat. The high top tables and chairs are really uncomfortable. For a short person like me, getting on and off the chairs is not a good experience. I'd recommend it have more traditional tables and chairs. That's what would keep me from coming back.
Love this place. A lot of traditional Russian meal. Live music is the best! Everything was good!
Great service Anastasiia was awesome and the food was authentic too cute old world cozy atmosphere
Good authentic food. We tought it's all just a Russian restaurant but they have food from the area. Have special events. Weekends dancing is on 4th floor
Great variety of foods from the region and super staff
This place is amazing- the food is so good, and they make their own flavored vodka. I love coming here.
I want to like this place so much but after two tries... I may just give up. Food is good, but not great. Some is yummy but overall impression is just so -so. Pricing is a bit high for the quality. The environment is awesome, such great decor. The staff are all very nice. Authentic vibe but again, maybe its just that Russian food is boring, but the food doesn't sell the place. Oh well
Wonderful atmosphere to go along with wonderful food! We had three appetizers before dinner so our friend could try a little of everything-she loved it all as we do! My favorite is the eggplant rolls! Oh my! The warm root salad is divine also! As was all our mains! And of course, even though we could barely fit it in, we shared a piece of Honey Cake-so good! A must-go when in DC!
The waitstaff was super kind but they messed up my father's order, then served us well-ahead of him. Then the sort of rushed to clear the table. That said the food was excellent.
Quite simply, the tops.
It was delicious! Food is great, drinks are unique!
Yeah how about-never again. Came here to celebrate my birthday, wanted to give my guests the "authentic experience" but it turned out to be a different kind of one-soviet rudeness as it gets. Not only the food was bland, but our server rushed us through the whole dinner, "the kitchen is closing, can you order?", then as we were EATING, he came up again asking us if we can order a dessert now because they are closing. Are you kidding me right now? I've never been this rushed through the dinner. The ironic thing is, when we needed him, he wasn't around. His entire job was to remind us that the kitchen is closing. Oh and I don't know what happened to the accordion guy, but he wasn't there which is a shame because he is great.
Do not come here, honestly.
I booked table and when I’m had arrived I can’t find any parking lot around there and they not have valet parking. I had calling em and they told me “our kitchen will close in 20 min” I told em I come in in 5 min and they said “we close 10pm, can you finish your dinner by 10pm?”
Great food! All 4 of our entrees were very yummy (chicken Kiev, golubey, duck, and dumplings). Cheese board was very nicely prepared, birds milk dessert was next level. Drink selection was very wide and authentic. Very eclectic decor too, which I say in a complimentary way. Really can't say enough good things about Mari vanna!
We loved Mari Vanna. We came here for a special birthday dinner and they treated us so well! Our waitress, Anastasia, helped us through the menu and gave us great opinions and information on everything. We ended up choosing some of her recommendations which we would probably not have chosen otherwise and they were amazing! Highly recommend their Golden Duck and cabbage rolls- the bell pepper sauce is to die for. A+
Love Mari Vanna
Excellent atmosphere, always great service
Very fast and very tasty
This was our first visit to this establishment. The ambiance was homey and warm. The food servings were generous and the price was reasonable. The quality of the food was outstanding. We are already planning on visiting for our next trip to DC. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Unfortunately we were cut out before we could finish our dinner. Very inappropriate and very rude.
First time to any Russian restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the experience with my friend!
Great food, fun atmosphere! Highly recommend. Perfect place for a group.
Food was very mediocre, very bland and either was under cooked or overcooked and being from Russia I know exactly how it supposed to taste like not a review from a person that never tried real Russian food. Deserts were ok but again presentation is minimal and waiters in shirts is nothing like in any decent Russian restaurant it would ever appear.
Great service, really good food, very authentic. the Moscow Steak I ordered was brilliantly done. Yes, it is expensive, but you are downtown DC and this is a fine restaurant, prepare to splurge and not worry about your budget.
