Garlic-shallot butter, Parmesan, Toasted brioche
Sweet potato ravioli, Mixed mushrooms, Crispy sage
Melted cheeses, Lager, Vermont bacon, Toasted brioche
Great service; great value. Restaurant it’s self needs updating but did give it character. Everything was great
Went to Marliave the past few years and it has been good. Recently went on March 13th for restaurant week for my sister’s birthday. The food is decent and the waiter was friendly. However it is UNACCEPTABLE for the waiter to help himself to additional tips without the patron’s knowledge. This is not about money but rather PRINCIPLE. YOU ARE STEALING FROM YOUR CUSTOMERS. Please make sure you check your receipts and make copies as to not get ripped off. The bill was $264 and I tipped 18% which is more than generous but the waiter altered the payment to reflect 20% tip. I will NEVER EVER go there again and will advise everyone that this restaurant STEALS MONEY. This is SHAMEFUL.
The food was excellent! We ordered the salmon, the steak, and the scallops. All were perfectly prepared and delicious. Appetizers and desserts also were wonderful. The chocolate cake was very chocolaty and rich - I'd go here just for the cake. I recommend it for a lovely dinner with friends.
Restaurant week menu not as strong as in previous years.
Food was good but not much special. Overall I don't like the atmosphere as next tables are so close.
This was an impromptu date night with my fiance and we decided to take advantage of Restaurant Week in Boston. I've eaten lunch at Marliave before and I knew it would be a great experience. It's so romantic at night in the restaurant and it was really perfect. It was nice to have the discount but I'd still pay full price to eat there! It's well worth the money. Also it's a great date if you want to get fancy. The food is amazing, the wine and mixed drinks are the best part, and the service is exceptional. They really know what they are doing. This is probably my favorite fancy restaurant in Boston.
The service was excellent and the food was very good.
Never been here, tried it during restaurant week. My wife, my son and I all enjoyed our meals. The escargot was very good. I like duck ,but never had duck confit, it was very good. We had at great waiter. it was a bit loud , however I think it was just one table of eight that made it so noisy. Overall a nice restaurant with good food.
It was very loud and crowded. Food and service were good, though neither was as good as previous times we have gone.
Went for restaurant week, truffle mac, salmon, berry dessert, and Dirty Helen cocktail were all delicious! Excellent service, one of the best places in Downtown Boston.
Food had too much oil and was not well seasoned
The food was amazing! I will definitely return.
Seated promptly. Waitress and staff were attentive. Food was very good. Will be back!
My boyfriend and I went to Marliave during Dine Out Boston and overall weren't super satisfied with the meal. There was only one thing that we ate that we would order again in the future
Escargot (amazing! it was the best thing we had that whole meal, definitely get it)
Macaroni and cheese (no flavor at all)
Beef Burgundy (beef was dry and had no flavor)
Chicken "under a brick" (skin was nice and crispy but also had no flavor, the risotto was fine, but not amazing)
Box of Truffles (it was good, but you only get 4 so don't think I would I would order that if dessert wasn't automatically included in the price again)
Fresh Berries (whipped cream was great)
Food: The food was okay but wasn’t anything that stood out, and it definitely was not worth the $38 for restaurant week. The appetizers were better than the actual main dish. The main dishes were bland and heavy in oil. The only thing really worth was the chocolate cake.
Service: our main waiter was great! however as another server was bringing bread and oil for us, she spilled the oil down my friends back and her chair. the servers damage control was not good at all she simply just brought over more napkins and let us be.
Overall: I don’t know if it was the stress of it being restaurant week, but we definitely will not be coming back for a meal here. The dollar oysters may be the only thing worth coming here for
We were really impressed with the number of options here for restaurant week. Normally the menus for restaurant week are very limited, but Marliave had a great selection. The service was excellent - prompt, friendly, and efficient. Food was very good. It's not the most amazing meal you'll ever eat, but it's good quality and well made. We would definitely come back here again and order off of the regular menu as prices were reasonable for Boston.
We all got sick
French onion soup is AMAZING - never had it with short ribs before. This is the perfect spot for restaurant week because the options are plentiful and the value is undeniable. Fantastic fresh drinks, fun atmosphere, and amazing service. When they take the lid off the dish, it really does make you feel special. Highly recommend, but stay away from bean dish (lacks some flavor).
Went for restaurant week while my food was awesome, my boyfriends short rib was FROZEN!!! Yikes. The restaurant did make it right and refunded us both meals but it was disappointing :(
We end up not eating at all cause the waiter spill the soup of the dish on my $2000 dollars handbag and my fur coat. What’s more upset is that nobody said sorry about this and I felt like that they don’t feel sorry about what happened to me. They don’t think they were wrong but instead of saying “ just an accident” and thought I was over reacting. I am very disappointed and felt very offended by everyone working in the restaurant. Worst experience ever had, never gonna go again and never gonna recommend at all.
In addition, it was my birthday meal, ruined everything.
The service was great. Good customer service all around from hostess to bar to table. The food was delicious! I will definitely come back.
Usually the service is great but I was completely disappointed tonight. Food was delicious as usual but the wait staff upstairs needs a refresher on customer service
Delicious food and great service. I always look forward to our next dinner here.
I love this restaurant. This is my fourth times come to this restaurant and definitely recommend for friends
I had the salmom. The dish itself needed a little more salt and spice. It was on the bland side. Last year at the restaurant week the food was great. 5 stars for all categories.
I'll go back because I like French food and the service is excellent.
Honestly, this place was amazing in every way. Food was amazing (we got the carpaccio and Mac n Cheese as Apps, short rib and chocolate cake for dessert) and I don’t think you could go wrong with any choice. Our server was wonderful and exceeded expectations. This restaurant is a hidden gem.
The food is delicious but the place is run down and was not very clean.
Staff were attentive and friendly, food was excellent— I had pan seared salmon that was perfectly cooked, and my daughter loved her Brussels sprouts, salads fresh and simple and not overdressed.
Do yourself a favor and order the truffle fries! Meatball sliders also excellent.
Food amazing. Beef carpaccio and others excellent.
Won’t be back.
Marliave is our go-to special event/Dine Out restaurant.
The food is fantastic and the staff is friendly without hovering. We were out to lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary and they put a little card on the table wishing us a happy anniversary which was very sweet and unexpected. I will keep coming back here and cannot recommend them enough. Get the mussels appetizer and use the bread to dip in the amazing sauce!!
Everything was excellent - service is top notch and the food was perfect. Thanks!!
Old neighborhood restaurant with a French & Italian menu. Only one waiter who was also the bartender but it was Sunday lunch so there were not a lot of people (hostess would have helped if required). Authentic food, tasty, and appeared fresh. Would rather the chopped salad been more of a traditional chopped salad the way the steak houses present them. Small dining rooms but quaint with a lot of history. Hope it remains in business.
Overall, good experience. Water was refilled regularly. Waitstaff was professional. Hostess was friendly. Our oyster order was incorrect (but we let it slide)... I ordered a dozen ‘Duxbury’ but got 4 each of the 3 types offered that night. After appetizers, I had to request bread twice before it was delivered to our table. The ambiance was nice. The food was great- especially the escargot, shrimp scampi, and the Reuben sandwich.
We always love Marliave, the food, service and ambiance are always good.
Restaurant was filled with a very strong bleach smell
We have gone to Marliave at least a dozen times. I even have one of their original menus from when they first opened, which an elderly family member gave me. The fact it’s one of Boston’s oldest restaurants kept us going back out of nostalgia. However, each time we went our experience has only gotten worse and we will never go again. The food is pretty good (though they changed the beet salad for some reason and it’s not nearly as good) and the portions are tiny. However, it’s the service that is just horrendous. I’m saying literally the worst service we have ever had anywhere. Not one employee smiled once and everyone : the hostess, the bartender, and our server truly acted and made us feel as though they were miserable to be there and to have customers. Just a terrible dining experience and we will never go there again. Marliave won’t last much longer if they keep this up. There are too many other great dining options out there for that.
Marliave offers takeaway which you can order by calling the restaurant at (617) 422-0004.
