Would recommend the Monkey Fingers
Having read a number of good reviews about the MeatLiquor we were extremely disappointed that our experience did not live up to expectations.
Firstly, when ordering drinks, my wife's cocktail arrived in what was the smallest 'cocktail' glass I had seen. The cocktail did not taste very nice and had little, if in fact any, alcohol. Very disappointing start.
We then ordered our food and both meals arrived on one big tray without any plates or cutlery. The portions of food were absolutely shocking. I ordered a double burger and it was no bigger than a 'happy meal' burger from Mcdonalds, including the various fillings. The burgers were very average to say it cost approximately £9 for a burger excluding sides.
Terrible value for money in my opinion.
We absolutely adored our trip to Meat Liquor - so much that we went back the next day! The burgers are delicious, Buffalo wings are amazing and the drinks are great. The ambience felt great on a Saturday night and relaxed on a Sunday lunchtime - and the best value!
Food was fine, the service was great from one waiter but he seemed to be the only one working.
One waitress was clearly intoxicated. Very unprofessional.
The food was on shared trays but some had food on for people on opposite sides of table (12 people.)
It seemed a little all over the place.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a lovely chilled meal after a long day of shopping! I went as part of my birthday present with 5 friends and the staff were lovely and very welcoming! It had indie music playing in the background and fantastic decor which I enjoyed and due to us being from Newcastle we enjoy a friendly atmosphere and we got that and more! I would recommend ''summer of love'' (although quite pricey) as a cocktail as I ordered a silver angel but unfortunately it didn't really compliment burgers and was small compared to my other friends cocktails. Our waitress was lovely (I cant remember her name sadly) but we had a table facing a darts board and pool table which was really fun and cool. We also asked for recommendations for places to go in Leeds on the night and the waiter we spoke to was so helpful and because of him we had a fantastic night! Thank you so much for such amazing service and food, I will definitely be visiting again when I am next in Leeds :)
Poor person's Almost Famous which itself is a poor alternative to Byron.
Poorly set out restaurant, lack of perceived care by the waiting staff (why should they care, the service charge is already added onto the bill!) and it whiffs of somewhere wanting to be "hipster cool" when it's one of a dozen similar places around.
Buffalo chicken wings were nice, fried were decent but the burgers were awful. Overcooked (not pink inside as they asked if that's how you'd like it) and on a bun not adequate for the size of the burger. The "hippie sauce" is basically lashings of black pepper in some sort of horrible congealed gravy.
When for two, who had a milkshake each (£5 for that privilege and was no bigger than a small at McDonalds) Buffalo wings to share to start (so they charged us for two lots) and then a burger each with fries / monkey fingers and they had the temerity to charge £55! If it was the last place with an available table in Leeds, I'd rather go home.
I've tried most of the so called epic burger places in Leeds. Look no further, this is the one !
Unfortunately food came out cold and didn't taste or look great either.
Cocktails were nice though and music was so loud we couldn't hear each other speak.
I visited with some work colleagues and we had a great time at Meat Liquor. The food was awesome - I had the buffalo wings. Yum. Drinks reasonably priced and a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend :)
Surroundings left a lot to be desired as they are not as web site might lead you to believe, its very 60's USA burger joint, fine if that's what you were expecting. Web site is modern and dynamic, venue isn't. Burgers are good but not as good as my daughter had intimated, certainly not in our group opinion. Worth a try though.
A great place to relax, eat and drink with Friends!!
A party of 4 people, who had to pour their own wine and take their own food from the delivery tray and still get charged 10% service charge and a charitable donation! I personally have donated a lot to charity recently and do not expect to pay service charge unless there's a party of 6 or more. Albeit optional, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, where the good food had been.
Burger was great and the hippie fries are incredible, but the chicken burger was the best we've ever had!
Took a girl on a date here and the whole experience was amazing. Going back soon for date number 2.
Came here with friends after being in the one in Londonderry and was happily amazed by how cool the restaurant was in Leeds in comparison. Loved the retro underground venue and the food was impeccable as always. Recommend to any people who love food but also love a good, chilled, retro atmosphere!
First time at meat liquor and it didn't disappoint! My husband declared it the best burger he had ever eaten. Atmosphere was great - cool music and really friendly and relaxed service
From going in the whole experience was poor. We had a table booked, arrived 25 minutes early so we could have a drink at the bar. After waiting 10 minutes to be served, we got our drinks, we decided to go mention that we were ready for our booked table when they were. We were advised that they just needed to wipe the table and would be ready in 10 minutes - which with us being early we didn't have an issue with. Over 20 minutes later, when no one had come to get us, we went to ask again and the table still needed to be wiped - thankfully they did this straight away. Once we had then ordered our food it took the best part of an hour to get to us - 2 burgers and one portion of chips taking an hour seems disproportionate. It was a Saturday afternoon, so busy but nothing to a point of everything taking so long to do. Especially when many of the staff seemed to be stood around avoiding the tables which needed clearing. When the food came, it was nice but nothing extra special. A portion of cheesy chips definitely wasn't worth £5! There then proceeded to be issues with getting the bill and getting my bank card back. Overall issues were resolved but not in a way which I think many people would expect. There was no general apology for any issues and no thank you for coming. Staff seemed to not care less. I am usually understanding of issues which can occur however I felt at this visit it Meat Liquor in Leeds there was not much reason for as many things not to be up to scratch as there were. Overall a big let down, would not recommend. Nothing special over other similar places to eat.
sadly the food did not live up to its usual standard on Saturday night. The service was brilliant but sadly the food let it down, needless ton say I'll try elsewhere next time.
The atmosphere and staff was great! Loved it although music was a tad too loud to talk. We went for the Michael O'hare event and it was amazing! The burgers were unusual and tasty. Staff were very friendly and did well remembering what food we had ordered (not your every day burgers). Oh! And their salted caramel thick shake is just amazing I had two!
Meat Liquor is always excellent, but on Sunday 20th September it excelled by hosting Michael O'Hare (The Man Behind the Curtain) for one night only.
Fantastic atmosphere, we all had a brilliant night.
They should do this 'take over' thing more often!
I took my sister and dad here for an evening meal as when I went with my boyfriend for lunch we absolutely loved it. The food did not disappoint however the staff weren't overly friendly this time round and we had to call someone over to take our orders as after we got our drinks nobody came to take our actual food orders.
I booked a booth for us as I like that they are a bit more private. However the music this time round was so loud we were literally having to shout to talk. I liked the relaxed feel last time and we actually enjoyed the music as we were able to enjoy to vibe and talk however this time it was rediculously loud. Too loud
Tasty burgers and large portions. Dj (Sun afternoon) playing northern soul was good. Decor ok but not as special as London one, which feels more authentically rustic
Amazing. Incredible atmosphere for a pre night out stomach liner. Great atmosphere, brilliant staff.
Good food, but music is ridiculously loud, you can't have a conversation.
Everything about this place is fantastic. ambience, food, staff were outstanding! Portions size is great and cocktails are lovely! Would defo recommend and will be visiting again.
Would definitely recommend. The burgers are just as great as they are in the London restaurant.
Absolutely had an amazing birthday dinner here. Staff very attentive, food yummy and drinks were inventive! Would definitely recommend
Great night, good food, fantastic atmosphere! Ideal for a Saturday night with friends.
Staff are friendly and they immediately got chatting to us with light humour.
Food came quickly and it was amazing! I had the Dirty Chicken Burger - it was, hands down, the best burger I've had in Leeds.
We were a bit shocked at the price of our drinks. A bit too expensive which was a shame given the value of the food.
Loved the decor although it seemed a bit dark in there - a bit difficult to see what you're eating!
Will definitely be returning to try more of the food again.
Really good food,
Staff friendly enough, but for a friday night meal it was too loud to hear what anyone was saying, the live DJ was was too loud, and we were sat in a very dark area, and we had to use our iphone torches to read the menu, i have no idea what the food i ordered looked like making it quite hard to eat.
Me and my girlfriend were really excited about visiting meat liquor and maybe its our mistake for not checking what sort of place it actually was, we just saw the menu (eyes bigger than the belly). But when we got there the music was so loud we couldn't even hear each other, although the staff were awesome and very accommodating, and any requests we made were met so cant fault the staff they were great, there is a mandatory service charge which if it wasn't for the staff I would have asked for it to be removed. Big portions and the food was nice, the only issue was the music :( but then I cant be sure if that's on the website or not (food with ear destroying music - luckily the dj played the odd track which got me tapping my feet lol) .
My boyfriend had told me he'd had the best burger of his life (he's quite the connoisseur) at a MEATliquor in London, so I thought I'd take him to the one in Leeds where I live to see if it matched up. Apparently, it did! And it suited me too. There was only one veggie option but that suited me fine. The halloumi and mushroom burger was gorgeous and I'm happy to report that there was a generous portion of halloumi. That's rare! The chips (sorry, I refuse to call them fries) were delicious, especially with hippie sauce on them. The atmosphere was cool, although it wasn't as dark in there as I'd heard it would be, so I'm not sure if that varies. Service was mostly fine (just one guy letting the team down). Highly recommend for burger lovers!
Great burgers cooked medium so they are very juicy, onion rings and slaw magnificent.
Service just as good - always on hand to offer more drinks.
This was our second visit to meat liquor and we were not disappointed. The burgers are so tasty and juicy and cooked to perfection with just the right amount of toppings.
I love the ambience too, the music is perfect and you really do feel you could be somewhere in America.
I love it and will definitely be back, wish they'd open one in Manchester though so I don't have to go all the way to Leeds!!!!!
The restaurant was good and the food was very nice! However on a busy Saturday night it was very hard to hear anything as it was so loud and the tables were too close together....we may aswell been on a double date with the couple next to us! Apart from that you couldn't fault the food or the service and the concept was fab!
Food and cocktails were both great. Had the chilli burger and it packed all the delicious punches I hoped it would. The House Grog is delicious, but will creep up on you if you let it! Staff were really friendly and everyone had an awesome time.
I just got excited all the way through the experience. And that's what eating here is, an experience. From food presentation, to taste, wine served in beakers, unbelievebly helpful & happy staff (who actually looked to be happy there) through to decor & music. This place is amazing. All four of our party loved it & sat discussing who we will be going back with. I might even attempt to take my 3 children for an early dinner! Brilliant.
Visited on Friday night for a meal with my other half and fully enjoyed it, portion sizes were massive and food was of a very high quality. Service staff couldn't have done more to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed!! Highly recommended
I grew up in New York & North Carolina but have lived in the UK for 18 years now. Finally a place that reminds me of home. ..... Well done Meat Liquor keep up the good work!!!
I manage to get through the Buffalo Chicken Burger without even chewing it's so good lol
Really loved Meat Liqour. Great Atmosphere, food and staff.
The Alcoholic shakes were a bit too expensive to be honest. They could be £2-3 less, as they are pretty small too.
