Mele Bistro (formerly Village Bistro)
Outstanding food and great, and affordable, wine list. Calamari was incredibly tender yet crispy, salads are creative and healthy, and the fish is delicious! And the desserts!!! We will definitely come back, frequently.
It was fabulous from the greeting at the door to the finish. Loved my blackened rockfish--cooked perfectly. Husband said the same about the blue snapper. Loved the bread (a little too much--we couldn't stop). We will be back again soon. Loved the old Village Bistro and this was even better!
We had an awesome New Year's Eve dinner here - the food was so good that I ate my leftovers as soon as I got home! The service was a little slow at times, but to be fair, the restaurant was PACKED. I will definitely be coming back here when I'm craving Italian food.
A wonderful spot in the neighborhood. Friendly with excellent food.
Our recent dinner at Mele Bistro was not our first, and the food has always been great, however each visit since our first has indicated that they are trying very hard to make Mele Bistro an excellent dining experience in every way. The appearance has improved, and I am told that significant new interior improvements are soon to be underway. Additionally, we were impressed with the hard work and effort that went into their holiday decorations. The restaurant was decorated beautifully both indoors and outside... We (four of us) enjoyed every minute of our meal at Mele Bistro. We recommend this restaurant without hesitation to everyone seeking a pleasant dining experience with great food, a warm and comfortable ambiance, excellent service , and reasonable prices. Try it! Mele Bistro may just become your favorite "all-occasion" restaurant...
Everything is perfect and excellent every time!
Mele has excellent cuisine and Frank, the owner, is very affable. We had the veal chop and the duck, both of which were perfectly prepared. The main reason for a lower score overall is the service which tends to be disorganized resulting in long waits at times between courses. We experienced this on prior occasions and this Christmas Day was the same—great food, slow service. We will return because of the food and friendliness while hoping Mele places more attention on improving its service.
Wonderful food, great service and fantastic ambiance for a Christmas dinner. Highly recommend.
The reception was pleasant. The reservation was exactly as requested. Drinks were delivered promptly. Th menu was attractive. Th e food was good. But the noise (music ?) was abominably loud!!
Perfect as always!
As usual, the ambiance was relaxed and comfortable, the service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and the wine recommendation was spot on. Mele Bistro has become my first choice when I'm gathering friends or family for a meal because they never disappointed.
Excellent neighborhood gem!
The lighting is very bad and I couldn’t read the menu or bill - probably overpaid as a result
Just a few days ago met with my lovely daughter for dinner after her work, I'm retired. Mele Bistro provided the perfect atmosphere with a very friendly entrance by the owner, and that was followed by an absolutely delicious meal we both enjoyed. Both of us can be considered foodies, me being a retired chef and food service director and her being introduced to good food as a child. My family and I plan to take in a performance at the Kennedy on New Years eve but will once more start the evening at Mele.
Convenient and cozy Italian bistro was a perfect pre-event place for a light dinner to fuel the rest of the evening. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was attentive and the meal well-prepared.
Too expensive for what it is, and that alone detracts from the overall value.
Wonderful welcoming restaurant..Varied menu, & owner is so gracious.
As always we had a wonderful experience and a great meal!
Dinner after a family gathering to see the nutcracker.
Always a great place
We really enjoyed our meal! In fact, we loved it so much we had to return our last night of our visit! The service and food were outstanding. Highly recommend. Wish we lived closer.
As always, excellent food and friendly service!! Thank you for a job well done....
Mele Bistro provides Arlington, Virginia with a really fine dining experience mostly due to the owner's determination to offer the finest food and wine available on the market. We sampled a lovely house special soup which rivals Mele's first class French Onion Soup; pumpkin raviolis; two different salads; and, of course the fish and seafood for which the restaurant is well known. We chose a bottle of wine that complemented everything on our plates.
Slow service. Food did not arrive as ordered (wrong things on salad, wrong side dish)
My husband recommended Mele to me to host a dinner with a friend and her daughter who live in NYC. All of us, 3 adults and 3 kids had a great time! The gentleman host was so kind and patient. The kids all enjoyed their pasta with marinara sauce, if they thought of it, I'm sure they would have licked their plate clean!
Everything, we ordered grilled calamari, fried zucchini sticks, chicken parmagiana, grilled bronzini, scallop ravioli, was super fresh and super delicious! Thank you Mele Bistro for a great meal!
Outstanding service and great food. Love going here!!
Visiting from the west coast for several days and (fortunately) discovered Mele! We enjoyed it so much we came back a second night! Food, wine and service were all exceptional on both nights!
Very thin "sliver" of fish for $30, and service very slow despite Not being crowded. Unlikely to return.
Food was moderately good. When we first sat down the bartender, female in a white and black striped shirt came over and brought us water. I asked if they had sparkling water and she snapped at me and said “you’re server will be right with you”. 10 minutes later I had to get up and ask someone if we could order drinks. We had to ask everytime we wanted something to drink. Very rude manager, broad sized invidual. And rude bartender. Also disgusting bathrooms.
made a dinner reservation for 8 pm and showed up at 7:55. After 25 minutes of waiting and never being able to speak to someone about being seated, we left. If you do not honor reservations, just say so.
Wonderful dinner but my husband had to get up twice to find our server who kept disappearing for long periods of time.
Our meal was delicious & we were very impressed with their commitment to homemade, fresh, local, & healthy foods.
We are from NJ and come to Mele every time we are in DC. Last trip we brought friends who also loved it. The food is very good and very farm to table and fresh. The owner is amazing as well as his staff. Everyone works together in a very family style environment. Love it here and will keep coming back.
Every time we go to Mele we feel bad for the servers. They are always understaffed. The servers are running around all the time and we are always waiting for a server to be available to bring our drinks/food/bill. Mele would be perfect if they hire more staff. The service would be much better. They can then let diners leave when they want to rather than having to wait a long time for the bill.
Food and service was very good; nice place! Would recommend.
We had been to the Village Bistro, the predecessor of Mele Bistro, and had read the first page of their new menu, a manifesto to the driving force of the restaurant and its owner. I was duly impressed without viewing one item from the menu. I can only tell you that we were blown away by the meal we chose. I had the best seafood dinner of my long life and my wife was equally effusive of her salad and pasta. We were marking a sad anniversary of the death of a daughter, seven years before, and we were cheered by our meal to no end. I have been involved in the food business; in fine dining management and food and wine importing for a good part of my life and have dined far and wide. My friends will tell you that a dinner at my house is a special occasion and I will accept that accolade, from a three-year-old our daughter loved to help and eat. What better way to honor her memory than sharing a meal that might not have come from my kitchen. My hat is off to the owner and his kitchen.
Welcomed at the door and had the choice of where to sit. Service was immediate and extremely good. Numerous selections on the menu were fully explained which helped make entree decisions. Everyone in our party was extremely pleased with their food. We’re going back soon!
Food was very good..bread was great with oil and herbs. Servers seemed a little overwhelmed at times.
Delicious food, however the “risotto” served with their duck was more like a rice dish. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who definitely had the hospitality spirit. Sadly though, they were very busy and understaffed so service was severely lacking.
