We think Aberdeenshire produces some of the best food in the country. Merchant Bistro is committed to supporting local so wherever possible we will use nothing but locally produced, season ingredients in our dishes. If using locally produced stock is not possible – and we wish it was always possible – then we will use local suppliers and make sure food miles are kept as low as possible.
So come down and try the Merchant Bistro for yourself.
Wednesday to Saturday - lunch open from 12.00 until 3.00- and dinner 5.00 until 9.00
Scrumptious mussels, divine wine, mouthwatering pork tenderloins, all polished off with coffee and a delightful apricot dessert. I cannot wait to have another reason in future to return to this delightful little restaurant.
We had a delicious meal, and felt the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. We were warmly welcomed and service was excellent, definitely a place we will return to.
Raspberry gin is lovely, other gins are available! Good value, interesting set menu. Very helpful staff.
We had a very nice evening eating what was a superb meal .We could only manage two courses as we were quite full after the Cullen Skink soup which was as good as I have ever had.No cheese and biscuits which I like to finish with.Staff could not have been any more attentive and we will certainly look forward to going back.
Had a very nice evening meal for two, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food very nicely cooked and presented.
This is my favourite go-to restaurant in Aberdeen and I use any excuse to visit. I took my daughter for lunch as I wanted to try the new menu. It was as good as always and didn't disappoint. We both chose the tempura sole which was truly delicious. Chef Kelly seems to take ordinary food and elevate it. My daughter had the lemon parfait for dessert and claimed it was not only the prettiest dish she had seen but also the tastiest. Bravo Merchant Bistro
Another lovely meal the menu descriptions don't do the food justice- lovely food & and lively presentation.
great food, good wine lists and great gin options. The service was super (very nice and smiling).
I will definitely recommend this restaurant, and surely come back.
First visit to MB, enjoyed the food immensely and will be back
Lovely place with very nice atmosphere. We went there for dinner, food was fresh, very well presented and very tasty. Tried soup, main meal and dessert and all three of them were exceptional. Great service.
Fabulous food and service , great quality, will be back again this week
Excellent service and food.
Excellent choices across all three courses - great variety of food , fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. Lovely attentive staff who looked after us throughout our meal.
went on a rainy Wednesday evening for early evening meal. but the dishes on the early evening menu didn't include the sea bass which I wanted to I ended up going for a starter and main from the regular menu.
had the chicken parfait. a big portion with a very small portion of toast. asked for more toast, not a problem to get more (and not charged any extra), but hey, MB give some more toast!
the seabass was delicious. it was on a bed of very indian tasting pea mash. a huge filling portion - if I'd have known it was going to be so big i'd not have ordered a starter. Fab food. Great service. Also a 1,000 point restaurant on a wednesday - bonus!
What a fantastic lunch we had. So well attended to by our waiter. Recommendations made and he was so much a contributing factor to our great experience.
Very friendly and welcoming service plus a good menu. Enjoyable early evening meal. Second visit and will definitely return.
The food was absolutely fantastic. The service was absolutely ideal with no long waits between courses or for plates to be cleared. All staff were very friendly.
First visit and would definitely return. Excellent dining experience all round. Loved the colour scheme and attention to detail.
It was really nice, food was good and reasonably priced... But it was lacking something - I think in atmosphere. Would probably go back, but maybe just for lunch.
It was my second visit and I wasn't disappointed. Booked the table for my birthday lunch with friends and all my instructions were fulfilled down to a 't'.
Would absolutely recommend Merchant Bistro for foodies, brunches and special occasions.
Food is amazing and staff very friendly and attentive.
Ate with group of friends, all enjoyed different food and clean plates! Staff were welcoming and friendly, full restaurant which added to the atmosphere . We shared a few dishes as often portions far too much, started with mussels, soup all tasty then various burgers, mac cheese &sea bream with chunky chips, no room for deserts! Would def recommend.
Late lunch on Saturday. Food was freshly prepared and very good coupled with very good service. Some nice wines at very reasonable prices. Overall very good indeed and experience was at least as good as our last visit for dinner.
When visiting Aberdeen I have now eaten at Merchant Bistro 3 times. One visit was a large party last year and they coped well with our demands.
The food is really good quality and always presented beautifully. The staff are always atentive and chatty.
Every time we have visited Merchant Bistro we have been with different friends Everyone of them have said the same thing Staff are lovely and make you feel very welcome. The food is extra special and we have always come away well fed.Would have no hesitation in recommending Merchant Bistro
Was recommended Merchant Bistro by a friend and decided to take my mum, aunt and cousin there for a get together. Wow it was fantastic, from the minute we entered we were greeted by
Philip who was excellent , advising on wine and food choices with a great sense of humour thrown in. The food did not disappoint it was delicious and the service second to none, they
could not do enough for us. Will definitely be returning
Went here in March for the wife's birthday. Probably our best meal ever. Highly recommend
We chose this Bistro basically by the reviews. What a top choice we made! Great food, great atmosphere, fab staff! If you've not been, give it a try...if you have been, go back!
This was our first visit and we were delighted with the whole experience. The menu selection was varied and when the food came it was delicious. I decided to try the vegetarian options and they did not disappoint, full of flavour and colour on the plate. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was prompt but not rushed. We would thoroughly recommend Merchant Bistro and with an early dinner set menu deal, it is value for money also. A+++
WENT FOR MY BIRTHDAY . NEVER BEEN BEFORE SO DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY SUPER. VERY VERY GOOD WAITER AND BRILLIANT FOOD. WILL BE RECOMENDING TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
Visited the restaurant with my partner on a Saturday lunchtime. Despite nearing the end of service the restaurant was still very busy - must be a good sign! Food was excellent quality, decent portions too. Service was outstanding, wines by the glass very reasonable. Cannot recommend it highly enough
Lovely restaurant, excellent service and exquisite food. The pulled iberico pork cheek starter was one of the best things I have ever eaten and was beautifully presented. I can't wait to go back to have that dish again! Also looking forward to trying some of the other dishes which sounded great and looked fantastic. Unfortunately don't live locally so trips to this restaurant won't be as often as I would like but will make future visits to Aberdeen an even more enjoyable trip.
Lovely menu. Spoilt for choice. Enjoyed the meal very much. Attentive service. Have been here on a few occasions and the food has always been very nice.
Very friendly staff. Excellent menu. The partridge and porridge was outstanding as was the seafood platter my wife had. Good wine list. A special surprise was the bottle of rapeseed oil sourced locally. We will certainly come back
Great service as always- very welcoming. The food was absolutely fantastic. The only sad part was that I could not finish my pudding! Can't wait to go back.
When we arrived we both thought that the restaurant had a warm and welcoming feel. Waiter was very good with a good knowledge. Ordered starter and main curse which came very quickly. Starter was okay but sadly the main course was awful. I ordered the fish bowl ...... there was certainly plenty of liquid but vey little fish covered by loads of mash. We did'nt stay for a dessert or coffee.
On a plus note there was a mix up with our bill .... we did'nt notice it but waitress left a message on our phone explaining that we'd been overcharged but they had rectified it.
Food was fab staff very friendly good value for money nice and central very clean xx would recommend to all my friends
My husband treated me to lunch at Merchant Bistro where we thoroughly enjoyed the new Winter menu . From our starters to our mains the food was delicious and we were served by helpful attentive staff. This is a true gem in the Aberdeen eating scene and we look forward to returning in 2016 to try their seasonal changing menus.
Varied menu & good vegetarian options. Beautifully presented and all delicious.
Staff attentive and pleasant- nothing too much trouble. Great value.
Received a warm and friendly welcome (on a cold and wet day!). First impression was of a nice clean and colourful room giving an air of warmth and airiness.
Service was very good, friendly and knowledgeable. For starters, my wife had the filo and I had Soup of the Day. For Mains my wife had the "Merchant Mac" and I had the Steak Pie. The food looked good and it was good.
We will go again.
Beautiful tasting food, beautifully presented and great service. Love Merchant Bistro so much, it's my favourite place to eat in Aberdeen. Such a relaxing atmosphere. Can't wait to go back again ( and again ).
