Exactly one year ago we went to Mestizo for lunch and were very impressed, nay delighted, to find somewhere in the UK with the real taste of Mexico.(I am Mexican).
This time it seems that if you order off the main menu, almost everything was not quite right. Sopa de Tortilla tasted right but was luke-warm, the tamales were as good as any in Mexico, but the tacos al pastor were, as we would say at home, gato por liebre. They took forever to appear, and when they did they were thick slices of meat with insipid chunks of what we assume was pineapple. We looked around at other diners and it would appear Mestizo has succumbed to a vision of “Mexican Food” only found outside Mexico i.e. burritos (rarely found in Mexico anywhere south of the US border). Please either get a trompo (spit) or take Tacos al Pastor off the menu. Es una lastima porque tendremos que seguir buscando ese rincon Mexicano en UK que tanto añoramos.
Reall Mexican food and Mexican ingredients in all their menu... I’m a fan and always be back as soon as I can.
Fabulous meal, service was second to none, really recommend this place
Great food and margaritas. Excellent service but noisy and bit lacking in atmosphere...
I'm from California and this is the best Mexican food in London. Always a popular place, its Sunday brunch is delicious too.
Besides the tacos everything else was very delicious, it is quite packed so better to book a table and not to be in a rush cause some things take quite some time to happen. Nice experience overall. I highly recommend the mole.
Absolutely fantastic restaurant. The food was authentic and delicious.
The staff were so nice and helpful. We advised that we wanted an authentic Mexican experience and they were very both enthusiastic and insightful. We took our time with our meal and drinks and never once felt rushed or disregarded, they really were fantastic.
We had the guacamole and queso frito (Mexican style mozzarella sticks) with green salsa were both great.
The star of the show was the Molcajete Mestizo - which was out of this world. We also were adventurous enough to go for the Mole salsa, which has quite a unique taste. We found this to be absolutely delicious and were told it was authentic, but it's not for everyone.
The drinks selection was also a highlight with some phenomenal cocktails and an extensive Margherita and tequila list.
Not sure how this has evaded me as it's been around for 15years!
I'll definitely be going back for more authentic flavors, as this is the best Mexican I've had in London.
An extensive vegan menu and a pleasant atmosphere made for a very enjoyable meal here.
I celebrated my birthday there with a group of friends. The warmth of the personal was outstanding and the food resembles what you can find in Mexico. There was a mariachi which was unexpected, which brought the place to live and contaged the guest with joy.
By far the best mexican restaurant in london I have ever eaten! Lovely cocktails and particularly the various types of award winning margaritas! Fantastic food - I could not fault anything about this place. The service was excellent and authentic. Go there you will not regret it.
Great atmosphere and great food, staff were very friendly!
Absolutely fabulous restaurant. The food is marvellous, the staff very helpful and friendly and it is one of the best places to go in London for a memorable night out. The margaritas and tequilas are outstanding and the whole experience is one to be savoured.
The service was perfect (Carlos), the food was excellent, and the value was excellent. It was everything you would want when you go out to dinner. I will definitely be back.
Excellent food and service at mestizo. One of our favourite places in London. Great ambience. Will be coming back soon!
Just lovely easy place and my Mexican girlfriend approves !
Great place, great staff and outstanding food!
This is a lively, noisy and friendly place serving excellent Mexican food. We’d booked for 7.30 and the website is very clear about how long you have the table for. But we weren’t seated until 8 which almost spoiled our evening as I had a train to catch. Staff were apologetic and gave us small mango margarita shots (very nice) but I think bookings need attention. Not a place to go if you are in a hurry but food is well worth a try
AMAZING food! What a spread. This is the closest thing I have found to real Mexican food. The portions are generous, it’s great value and I cannot fault them at all! Will definitely be back!
We had the taco tray and it was lovely.
Nice to choose your own quantity of the 16 different fillings.
For starters very smooth fresh guacemole, yummie.
Go there and enjoy authentic Mexican food (so we think because there were a lot of Spanish/Mexican speaking people).
best Mexican brunch in town. Abit pricey but it worth it.
Amazing food, very good value. Generous portion sizes, 2 of us had the Nacho starter to share and neither of us could finish the mains. The cocktails we had were lovely too, can't state enough how good the food was. Would recommend Mestizo to anyone and will definitely return if we're in the area again.
The nachos were just covered in cheese,
That no Nachos were available to eat, just soggy and hard cold cheese as they arrived cold, the 2nd gentleman who served us was also rude.
Excellent! Great food and great service . Will be going back for sure
Went for a Friday night meal with friends. Service was awesome, joking with the group and offering up tips for the menu. The Margarita jugs were great and the food was excellent
Fabulous menu with food to match. Very busy so quite noisy with a good atmosphere but not the place to go for a quiet meal. Thought one unisex loo in the restaurant was a little lacking and often a queue given the size of the restaurant.
I'm Californian and take my Mexican food very seriously. I believe that Mestizo is the most authentic Mexican restaurant in all of London. It is proper Mexican food, not this microwaved hyped up wanna be taco bell stuff that other people serve. I eat here as often as possible as it just tastes like home.
Authentic and complete
We definitely come back.
The store next to the restaurant is amazing also.
I had the mixed tapas veg starter. The food was beige looking and tasting. Really poor.
I'm an American expat who loves Mexican food, and this is easily the best Mexican restaurant I've found in London. Very authentic and delicious food in a nice space. The tamales, flautas, empanadas, tacos and enchiladas are outstanding, but you should also try some of the other plates. I've had the Pollo Ticul, Chiles Rellanos and Pollo Sinaloense, and all are first-rate. Very good service as well. Highly recommended!
Excellent as always but our vegan friends had only a few options.
Fantastic Mexican food. A lot of variety. The food is really tasty!!
Like always very nice food . The service is great and we will come again !
As usual the best mexican food in london.
I like mariachi music but not when they r playing it next to my ear. Food wise... 10 out of 10
The experience was amazing! 100% Mexican flavors and people super friendly.
The only thing I could recomend is to play just mexican music 😉
I will go again for sure
Loved it!! We enjoyed the tamales so much we bought some frozen from their shop. Excellent food, interesting cocktails, and really nice staff. We'll be back!
Excellent food, generous portions and very reasonably priced. Only downside is the location which is not the best on a rather busy main road.
Will definitely return in the future
Such good value for really stonking Mexican dishes...
Sunday lunch service (buffet) is always good value and this week we had the pleasure of a roaming mariachi band. Food is as authentic Mexican as you can get without flights and a two hour queue at passport control. Above all, the staff make it a really enjoyable experience. They are always available, helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. Gracias, Mestizo.
I love this restaurant. The service is friendly and efficient, the food is fantastic (the tortillas are so fresh!) and overall, it's great value for money. Overall, it's an ideal place to go for dinner with friends when you're looking for something central, non-chainy and delicious.
I was so happy when my friend suggested we go to Mestizo! I hadn’t been since my 30th birthday nearly three years ago (wahhhh) and it was just as excellent as I remembered. Sad to see the downstairs mural seems to have gone though!
