Really lovely way to celebrate Easter!
Nice restaurant with a cosy feel and covered garden area. For me it was a bit chilly due to people walking in & out of the garden frequently. The food was nice, nothing amazing, but good portions and hearty food. It was perfect for a casual catch up with friends.
At £16.95 each for a roast dinner you expect something special, or at least for it to be edible. I ordered the lamb, the meat was delicious but that was it. The dinner was served in a bowl, drowning in a not particularly nice sweet gravy which made everything taste the same. One piece of broccoli, 2 parsnips and a carrot and 4 rock hard ‘roast potatoes’ one of which couldn’t even be cut with a steak knife. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt on top and soggy everywhere else, it was just a huge disappointment.
I politely complained about the potatoes and the sweetness and amount of the ‘gravy’ at the end of the meal. They said they’d feed it back to the chef but no further word on it from the staff. It would have been much appreciated if they had just come back and apologised.
Be aware the bread that is brought as soon as your bottom hits the chair is charged for...worth it because it was lovely but a bit of a surprise at the end, especially considering the complaint I made and the half eaten meal. My friend enjoyed his beef dinner, but the Yorkshire was more of a pancake than a pudding! They also overcharged on the glass of wine I ordered by £2.50, but by this point I couldn’t be bothered complaining again, we cut our loses, feeling thoroughly ripped off and vowed not to return. Which is a shame as the staff seemed lovely and I liked the quirky decor and feel of the place.
Food was great. Just disappointing you had to order from the valentine's day menu which was more expensive than the normal menu!
Such a lovely place. Great food, could not fault the service they were so nice and didn’t bother us lots. If you want somewhere lovely for dinner that won’t break the bank go there
It was my first time there and I enjoyed. Delicious food, well serve. Good portions! I would go back
The service at the venue was encompassing and engaging from start to finish. It was as you were welcomed by a long lost friend! I was impressed they even when they did not have something on the menu, it was dealt with professionally but with such charisma you found yourself not caring one jot.
There is a lovely romantic setting with candles and low level lighting at the restaurant in the back section. They have also decorated the rear garden as a 'chalet' over winter meaning the garden can still get full use. They are obviously proud of it and rightly so.
I could not recommend this venue enough for the service. The food was lovely too and I cannot wait to return.
Great . Staff amazing , so friendly , the food was great as usual apart from rubarb crumble. Too much stewed fruit. Not enough crumble . Will defo be back tho !
Such a shame, after a good meal the waiter tried charging us £30 more on top of the bill!
When challenged it was responded by the boss with he can’t count. I was wondering how much this happens, as if I never checked it, it would of been paid with a Handsome tip!
So if you go, check the bill
We went to the Metro for our anniversary, the ambience was perfect with fairy lights decorating the covered patio area. Service was spot on and the food delicious. Would definitely recommend.
Very nice place for a date night or to catch up with friends. They don't have a cocktail menu but the bartender is really good, makes a wicked whisky sour. Definitely try the veggie and vegan options. It's really pretty for instagram photo, too.
Nice outdoor space. Shame there are only roasts or a salad on a Sunday but good food.
It was an amazing restaurant, the owner is fantastic and very welcoming. The food was of high quality and the date night offer is something not to miss out on! The only thing unfortunately was that the actual garden was booked out for an event, which meant we missed out on the full experience we were expecting. Nevertheless a lovely restaurant. Will definitely visit again.
Metro Garden is a fantastic place. Lovely lovely staff and hospitality and the owner, Fran is simply adorable. Feels like hone. Been there 3 times now and one of favourite restaurants. It’s also very dog friendly which is a massive plus for us!!
Poor and slow service considering it was not that busy. Ran out of most drinks by 1:30pm.
Had the most delicious meal here the other night. Beautiful and pretty outdoor space and very charming staff
We had the most wonderful Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. We do not eat garlic due to an allergic reaction, and when we explained this the chef prepared a tasty chicken fillet for us and made a special sauce which we can only describe as amazing:a blend of tasty meat juices, honey and stock. We always feel that the chef's ability to cope with our allergy gives an insight into the standard of real cooking skills (they are not just heating up a pre-bought sauce)Well done everyone, from the warm friendly greeting, the standard of service and the individual attention, we really could not praise this enough! Visit some Sunday, but book in advance and enjoy a delicious meal cooked and served by a talented team: you won't be disappointed.
Lovely food and a warm atmosphere. Very friendly service
I've been to Metro many times over the years, and it is consistently great. I would highly recommend it.
A lovely restaurant with fabulous and attentive staff. My water glass was never empty.
The food was very good. My only complaint was that the portion was so big I took over half of it home.
Excellent food, service and wine. Lovely setting and logging, with a great ambience and atmosphere. A highly enjoyable evening and we'll be back again soon.
Very disappointing evening. I chose this place as the ambience and food are usually good. Sadly there was a private event so were seated at a cramped table where our menu caught the candle flame on the table and started to burn, and the staff clearly could not cope as the service was terribly slow and we had a long wait for our food. Our starters never arrived, our mains were not very appealing though the waiter said it was the most popular dish...the monkfish scampi was dry and un-appetising. Our bread basket was snatched from our table not once but twice, and given to another table! The attendees of the private event took over the bar next to our seating making it very difficult for us to hear each other. It was a very disappointing dining experience and I would suggest that the restaurant notify guests at time of booking when they have private events. The best experience of the evening was the PicPoul wine. That I would recommend.
I absolutely love this restaurant and enjoy going back often.
Took some friends there who had not been before and they loved it!
Staff is super-fab!!!
Went on a cold Tuesday night...you can tell this venue will be a winner in summer months.
I like coming to the Metro and always manage to have the same table under the mirror. I like the shabby decor and the atmosphere. On this occasion however when I asked to take the left food home, as the portion was most generous, I ended up with the food left by my guest and not my own!!!
Wonderful food with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff. There is a good choice of wine although slightly overpriced. The food prices are reasonable and compliments to the chef! Extremely tasty!
We have celebrated for 3 years running our neighbours Christmas dinner at Metro and always had a great time with great service, food, and ambiance; unfortunately it was not that way this time.
The service was poor and sloppy and was closer to canteen standards rather than a restaurant.
The mulled wine served on arrival was left dripping down the sides of glass. The wine list was very overpriced and of very poor quality.
There were only two tables of diners that night, a party of 6 and us, a party of 10. All menu choices were pre-ordered and there was only one server.
The server carried 4 to 5 plates at a time, so the bottom of one plate was resting on the food below. As a result, food from one plate ended up on another and the bottom of some plates were covered in food which then went onto the tablecloth. The meals were literally thrown to the table as the server struggled with the number of plates he was carrying, hence the food was slopped all around the side of the plate.
The main course presentation was dreadful. All the food was piled on top of each other into a small bistro bowl. It was impossible to see what was in the bowl. The Christmas dinner bowl was smothered in thick brown, coagulated, gravy; it looked like the same gravy that was served with the Lamb Shanks. The top of the meal was then smothered in cranberry sauce, regardless if you wanted cranberry sauce or not. It really looked like a pile of leftover food scrappings.
Most of our party of 10 left their main courses and much of the desserts.
To top it all, the server cleared the dessert plates at around 10.15. To our dismay the server did not offer us coffee but instead at 10.25pm, presented us with the bill stating that as we were the only diners then he wanted to close the restaurant.
We each paid £55 per head.
This is not the food and service we have come to expect from the Metro restaurant. I doubt we will return.
To be honest I was a little bit disappointed with this dining experience. When we arrived the restaurant said they didn't have our reservation. It wasn't until I showed them my Open Table app that they gave me some story about the date being closed to Open Table reservations as it was a special evening, however they did accommodate us and found us a table. The only problem was the view was completely obstructed and we could not see the evening entertainment. The food was mediocre at best, and whilst the entertainment was a nice touch, it was not the best opera I've heard. It was also terribly cold our in the conservatory. I don't think I would give this venue a second go. Disappointing date night.
We always have a great time at Metro, and a major part of the experience is Metro's charismatic host Fran. But all staff are attentive and charming, service just right, and the food rarely to be faulted. An atmospheric place and we came away with a glow!
Staff here are incredible and the atmosphere is always perfect!
We had a casual dinner with friends and had a lovely time. The staff were kind..The terrace was covered and everything makes you feel more indoors than in open air. Food and wine list were very average ...
I booked via OpenTable and received usual confirmations, etc, only to be told upon arrival that they had suspended OpenTable bookings for that evening as they may get more walk-ins (it was during the warm summer evenings).
They (rather reluctantly) found us a suitable table as they were expecting to get busy - we were the only people seated in our area for the entire evening!
We didn't receive menus, or offered a drink until we asked.
The wait staff were very pleasant, but seemed to be overtaken by their manager at any chance, which made the whole establishment seem unorganised.
The meal with quail eggs came out with what seemed to be chicken eggs, although the head waitress tried to tell us it was duck eggs - so we got more for our money!
All in all, the food was nice, but the service was a let down.
Love the vibe and garden is amazing. Great service and bants
I would highly recommended to take care of your toilet. When I went for a dinner, one toilet was not splashing at all, water everywhere and it was smelly.
Everything was amazing until two big tables of people arrived. Since then we had to ask for everything more than once and we didn't even get an extra chair that we had asked because it started raining and need to move the table away from the sofa. A good point was that they took off the desserts from the menu because they had arrive after 40 minutes. Nice and friendly place, with a stunning backyard, but not a good experience overall.
we had a lovely waiter and our food was tasty. however, for a simple meal witha few drinks, I thought it was rather costly. made me think about whether I would be coming back again soon.
we came for a casual dinner and it was perfect, lovely decorations, really nice staff, a good menu with lots of options to suit everyone and the best thing was the amazing Tuesday night singer!
Been twice before and had nothing bad to say about the place, hence returning. However on this occasion, everything seemed a little disorganised and they were short staffed. The staff were not rude or anything, there just weren't enough of them for a Saturday night.
Metro Garden cafe has been a perennial favourite for Sunday lunch. It's still good but prices have risen substantially and service wasn't as personalised and child friendly as it once was. It no longer represents the great value it once did which is tough in the competitive London sunday lunch scene.
Great little place! Especially if you can't get out the back when the weathers nice!!
