The food was excellent. We got the steak frites and the filet mignon. The steaks were cooked to order, medium and medium rare respectively. I got a non alcoholic Apple of My Eye. Tart with a sugar rim to make the finish sweet. The service could have been a bit better as one of us ran out of the beverage we were drinking. A glass bottle of water was left at the table and that was nice. The restaurant was very efficient at turning the tables to be ready for the next guests. 9/10 would reserve again.

Extraordinary food for vegans and nonvegans. They make a vegan pita that has to be requested but is great. I can’t say enough about the service. We had some difficult food allergies in our group and they adjusted food safely and smoothly. My favorites-sorry about spelling—baba ganoosh, dolmas, shrimp (they substituted cream by adding lemon juice and olive oil).

II dined in a party of six for lunch at Ambar yesterday. The variety, quality, flavor and quantity of the dishes provided on the bottomless lunch special was impressive and satisfying. I was surprised that its weekday price increased by ten percent since I last visited weeks ago. The service was attentive in collecting our orders and delivering items. It was sluggish in removing empty plates from an already crowded table. We often were left to bus the empty plates ourselves. The restaurant was comfortable in terms of ambiance, cleanliness and style. It was, however, quite loud, making It was difficult to hear each other at the round table for six in the center of the dining room where we were seated. Staff was warm and welcoming. I also noticed that the portion sizes were much smaller than they had been during prior visits to the restaurant--at for the few dishes that we ordered, especially for the beet tzatziki, a real crowd pleaser. This was not a huge problem, as one is not limited to the number of dishes ordered; it did, however, make the lunch for multiple diners a bit more difficult to manage, as we prior diners ordered the quantity of dishes we thought we needed based on our prior knowledge of portion size. This meant there was a delay in getting the appetizers we all wanted. Still, all said, we would visit again and look forward to it.

I truly loved my experience! From our arrival we saw fresh past being made in the window. We were greeting with warm smiles and a coat checking service. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely incredible. I will be back many more times.

Discover Washington, D.C.

An international city with the food chops to show for it, Washington D.C. is brimming with new restaurants, coffee houses and spirited bars. And, while tablecloth dining has it’s place here (diplomats gotta eat), so does the casual yet delicious lunch spot (interns gotta eat, too). Near the Capitol, historic eateries and classic menus are favored by many. Excellent Filipino food can be found in Columbia Heights. Near Georgetown, upscale bistros and farm-to-table spots are the order of the day, and Adams Morgan is home to many international restaurants and locally owned cafes.
