Middletons Steakhouse & Grill - Colchester
Lovely starters, fantastic steak but we wouldn't have the ribs again.
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere but the couples tables towards the front of the restaurant are packed in close, some with just a mesh wall between them so there is no privacy and it's very hard not to listen to the person sat next to you!
The waiting staff were friendly and polite although weren't particularly on the ball in terms of asking if we wanted more drinks and there was some confusion when we were offered dessert menus after our starter.
The overall experience was a good one though and we are likely to return.
Food average isn't cooked well
Noisy all round and difficult to
hear your Voice
Nearby parking at NCP is incredibly expensive, the restaurant is so noisy it is difficult to hold a conversation with people at your own table. The food was OK but not worth the cost and we had to send one steak back because it was not cooked as ordered. Sadly I would not recommend.
As per usual the service was good and the food up to its normal high standard. One slight negative on the evening from my point of view was that our waiter good service from him but he was not wearing any socks it was a bit off putting to see this not sure what the restaurant feelings are on this subject.
food was very good however we had to wait an hour for a roast dinner
Food was amazing had a lovely time even though booked late staff really accommodating
Service & food were excellent.
The only downside, was sitting upstairs. No atmosphere.
Middletons Steakhouse and Grill is a great restaurant. It is both good for adults and children. The food there is decent, wish there was more available. The cost is pretty decent. The service was great. Round of applause for Dan who managed to deal with me and my family, who are loud 😂. Overal a great place highly recommend.
Always love the food here, the service is second to none however the restaurant gets exceptionally hot during the day and doesn't appear to have many air con units.
Excellent service as always by the waitresses , they are always busy but never let the customer service down , particularly pleased today as being one of the busiest days of the year Mother’s Day ! But still great service and food see you soon
Mother’s Day meal
My 1st choice in restaurants
I had a great meal.
Wish I'd had a bit more money to spend and time to appreciate it more. But we were on a tight schedule.
Sam (I think), our waiter was great. But the dude that brought our food over and asked us if we wanted any sauces, never returned.
The flashing light bulb above our table was a bit annoying, but didn't detract from nommy steak times.
I will very likely be back x
The pavlova portion was very small, I was sad about that after having had a lovely main course.
Wait staff too busy to pay attention to orders. Came back after placing order to say dish ordered would take extra time due to some Kitchen equipment issue(that I could care less about).
Restaurant was noisy and playing throw back music almost designed to hasten a quick exit to keep tables turning over.
lovely food great service, all the staff are very proffessional , steaks are really delicious and the deserts are amazing. Price is very reasonable. best restaurant definetley will return next time in colchester
Miller and carter is a go to treat for myself and my partner, every trip to the restaurant has been the same great food and service, and the beef dripping sauce is to die for. We recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves quality steak.
I have enjoyed meals at this restaurant on many previous occasions. However, this meal and service did not live up to expectations. Service was slow and poor, other diners were complaining, the waiter knocked over my drink on way to the table. Although we had the cheap lunch, my minute steak was miniscule, compared to previous occasions. The fries were like cheap oven chips. Dessert was quite nice. Overall very disappointing.
My partner and I had a lovely meal for his Birthday, our waitress was extremey tentative and even had time to chat to us about our plans for the rest of our evening. Lovely atmosphere and the food was amazing - my chicken was perfect and my partner said his steak was amazing! We both had a great meal and will definitely be visiting again soon! Thank you for making the evening so perfect for us :)
I like the place, ill definitely come back, the portions were small, but filling
The place was lovely had a good vibe to it, my food was lovely great quality cuts of steak, however my partner said her steak (fillet, rare) was cold, she would normally bring this to the servers attention but the service seems to be a open to all scenario because we had 4 different servers serve us throughout the meal and then when we would ask one for something we would be forgot about until the last server lady took full charge and the experience was much better.
Very nicely laid out. Good service. Good food. Would certainly return.
Went for an early dinner, tried the set menu which turned out to be very good, generous portions and well cooked. Good value and service great.
The set menu was good for a small meal, I wouldn't have wanted to pay the full price for the puddings. We didn't have the pavlova but looking at another table, the meringue looked as though it was out of a packet from Tescos with a tiny amount of frozen fruit on it. We chose the sticky toffee pudding and sundae which although were both small they tasted good.
Over the last year the standards of the restaurant have dropped and its obvious the accountants have taken over.
When Middletons first opened I was a big fan. The quality of the meat, service and overall standards were really good.
My last couple of visits I've noticed things have slipped over the kast year. Service is slow (40 minutes wait for a steak). The quality of meat isnt as good (or its not being cooked as well).
Small things like mustard used to be presented in a small Colemans jar. Now its catering mustard left standing on the side in a rammakin.
Brilliant food and well priced. Probably the best steak I've had in a long time. Definitely in Colchester.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating especially as it was my Grandma's 91st birthday. Service from our waiter was excellent and a slight mistake on our bill was dealt with quickly and professionally.
Steak was too chewy too eat. And service was slow also got the order was wrong so had to wait longer. They did though knock a drink off the bill.
Great evening with good food and brilliant service.
Came as a group of 6 on a Saturday night. Food was faultless; steaks cooked to perfection and even gave us half lobster on the house after getting the original order wrong. Have had poorly cooked steak and service in the past but would certainly return and recommend to friends.
Set menu is particularly good value and (unusually) available on Saturdays.
First class food and speedy service. Just dropped a star as it was a bit chilly!
The noise level in this place is ridiculous, table of 30 with about 15 of which very young children screaming the place down, swearing and dropping glasses, food was ok at best, burger come out looking like the chef had stood on it in anger.
Lovely bottle of coke though, silver lining and all that.
Food was delicious. Staff very friendly. Will go again! Thank you
This was our first time here and we love it.
We will be coming back in the future.
Brilliant food and lovely atmosphere. Staff attentive and friendly
The lunch time set menu is very good value. Lots of room so good for prams.
Our favourite restaurant in Colchester which we will return to but just a couple of things let it down slightly this time. Firstly, I’m always designated driver so I was only drinking Diet Coke but the water on the table is always great for me too. This time we drank the water quite quickly but unlike previous visits, it wasn’t replenished. We left it empty for 30 mins then I asked for it to be filled and this was done, it’s just been a nice touch in the past when it’s been changed without having to ask.
My second niggle was when my husband ordered a gin and tonic (he’d had a couple of beers first). He ordered Adnams Copperhouse and when it was brought to the table, there wasn’t a lemon or lime in sight. Maybe it’s just our opinion but we found this quite strange and he said it changed the whole taste. These were our only minor criticisms and as I said, I’m sure we will be returning again for the amazing food. It’s just a bit of constructive feedback for the front of house staff to be made aware of.
As always the food was excellent and the service was very good considering the restaurant was very busy. The waiter was very friendly, cheerful and helpful. I will be returning very soon.
Food was delicious but found service disappointing & gentleman’s toilets were disgusting, not what you expect.
