Mockingbird Kitchen and Bar
The owner?/manager? is super caring. The food is great. It’s a wonderful place.
We loved the cozy feeling of the fireplace room. The music was young and hip with out being annoying. The service was great and the food was very good. We eat out very rarely but we will come back again!
We wish we would have considered Yelp reviews of the establishment....we would have been forwarned. We can honestly say we haven’t had this bad service and mediocre food in a long time. Was supposed to be a special Valentine’s Day date and ended up being an evening of complete aggravation. Had to flag down whoever walked past for anything we needed...waiter was non-existent. In fact the bus girl was more attentive and we told her so. For the price the food was mediocre. ..make better French onion soup myself...roast chicken was dry...lobster ravioli was very “fishy” tasting. When coffee came, my husband immediately spit it out...it tasted strongly of lemon. Maybe got someone’s used tea cup? Dessert took 40 minutes to come out and Apple Tart wasn’t worth the wait. When the check came they gave us someone else’s bill. Can’t make this stuff up I’m sorry to say. Obviously we won’t be going back.
Short staffed, small portions. No one checked on us after food delivered. Took a long time to get bill.
I asked to sit in the other room that had plenty of empty tables due to being cold every time the door opened and was told that could not be accommodated. Another couple came in right after us and complained about the same thing, they were moved right away. Always previously enjoyed this restaurant but I will not be back.
Husband and I went for Valentine's dinner...We made a 5:30 reservation to avoid the rush, and were one of only about four tables when we were seated. Service was glacially slow and inconsistent. Our entire meal took two hours. Were brought bread for the table almost 30 minutes after sitting down and were told it was "fresh out of the oven" - if you know you have 5:30 reservations why wouldn't start baking bread 40 minutes ahead of time? We ordered a second drink and never received it. We ordered dessert and never received it, then after waiting for it for about 40 minutes the waiter just brought us the check. I told him I hoped the dessert wasn't on there because we never got it and he seemed completely confused. The food was good, but not so good that I would spend almost $200 on dinner for two when the service was so poor and disorganized. It is a shame because it's a really beautiful restaurant but too inconsistent for a couple with young kids to waste a rare date night again.
Our first dining experience was outstanding. We look forward to returning.
Due to some favorable reviews on Open Table, we have been wanting to try Mockingbird for some time now. We were deeply disappointed, however. The kitchen is slow. Very, very slow. Sloth from Zootopia slow. That was bad enough, but the food was mediocre, not worth the wait. The beet salad used canned beets. The tacos were meh. The fish and chips were average. It never should have taken an hour for a simple order like that to arrive when only four tables were occupied. Our server was attentive, but she had a tough job trying to put a good face on a bad situation. We won’t return.
First time at Mockingbird and won’t be the last. Food was outstanding, our Waitress very pleasant and helpful. We had a cozy table by the fireplace....couldn’t ask for a better dinner.
Our first time at the restaurant, so glad we found it! Excellent service from knowledgeable and friendly wait staff! Food very good and we're very much looking forward to our next visit!
Fun very pleasant evening with great food - Love the pork dumplings to start with
Prices for coffee and soda too high
Charged for soda refill
Split plate charge too high as we eat out often and don’t want big potions or leftovers
Great cocktails, we love sitting at the impressive bar. Food is always creative and well prepared.
Delicious, duck salad and mushroom pasta fantastic. Great service in a beautiful place. Thank you, we cannot wait to come back.
My favorite local spot. Great food and service, the best oysters around.
Food was horrible. We brought friends there and were embarrassed. We have been there in the past & food was great. Steak was poor quality & chicken was awful. Completely disappointed.
Food was good, unfortunately, the seating was not the most optimal due to a large party in the room.
Always fantastic, holiday ambience and decor was beautifully done.
Excellent oysters, we enjoyed half price wine, a Wednesday special, will become a Wednesday regular!
Interesting and eclectic menu, though a few more choices would be nice. Scents of deliciousness as soon as you enter the dining room. Good portion sizes
Food was delicious -
Ambiance was great in the fireplace room
A very pleasant evening
We live locally and this is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is consistently good and the ambiance is inviting.
The fire crackled in the alcove and it was a special and warm corner. Our meal was excellent as was the service. Mockingbird has been inconsistent for us before but everything came together for this meal.
We love Mockingbird Kitchen and Bar and really enjoy our dinners there. We decided to stop by for lunch
on a Saturday. The Christmas atmosphere was delightful. The fireplace was glowing and flanked with Christmas trees on each side. My husband enjoyed his favorite curry noddles and I enjoyed the delicious pork picodegallo tacos with sour cream. It was so warm and friendly, especially on these cold winter
days. We will return soon.
A wonderful Thanksgiving dinner! The always delicious oysters and great bread followed by a perfect pear salad and roast beef. Nice choices on the prix fixe, well priced menu. The apple and pumpkin tarts rounded out a really lovely dinner. Always great service and nice ambience including a kitchen that cares. Cheers!
This was our first visit and we went for Thanksgiving dinner. The restaurant was all decorated for Christmas and had Christmas music playing. It was very festive. The dining room is beautiful and the wait staff were terrific. It was a lovely experience and we are planning to go again soon.
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely meal enhanced by a toasty fire in the fireplace. Both of us chose a special of the night though a hard decision for me with all the other delectable offerings. Service was great, food delicious, and ambiance perfect.
Brunch was delicious, great variety, the roaring fire made us forget the weather outside. Great service
Everything was wonderful. Ambiance exceptional!
We had a great dinner. The food was fantastic. Thanks to our waiter James for telling me about the restaurant, we really had a great experience!
Excellent new menu and very cozy in the late fall / winter with the fireplace going
Warm inviting atmosphere. Although noise level was on the high side, we were seated at a cozy table off to the side which was nice for us as it was our anniversary. We started with oysters which were so good we were going to order more but our salads arrived. I had the roasted Caesar and my husband had the panzanella, both were beautifully prepared and delicious. One entree was a 10 oz striploin and the other a “Troffie” (pasta with wild mushrooms). We highly recommend both. The server apologized because there was a little wait between our salads and the entrees arriving and so dessert was on the house. Also delicious. We will definitely go back. It is a 40 minute drive from our home to the Mockingbird Kitchen but well worth the trip!
Service was terrible. Went on a Sunday night - only a few tables of guests. Took forever to get served. Ordered dumplings to share as an app - very odd - they were both crispy and soggy...strange taste. Main course was relatively tasty but took entirely too long to be served. Same problem was happening at other tables as other guests were visibly annoyed. Would not return.
Mockingbird is always a favorite. Great food and atmosphere! The beer list also improved since the last time I was there.
Food was bland. Portions were small. Overpriced for the experience. Won’t be back
The Mockingbird is my favorite restaurant in Litchfield CT! If you are lucky they will have Fuzzy Baby Duck on tap. Get the chicken Picatta it is the best I have ever had. Order the creme brulee for dessert and you will be happy!
No I would not recommend this restaurant - it was only our 1st visit and were underwhelmed- few customers in the restaurant, food took a long time to come out of the kitchen, dressing was sparse on salads and pasta dish, average presentation, nothing special. we ended up closing windows because we were cold, wine selection was good. maybe next time? we heard great things and were disappointed. servers were nice , we were surprised the food was average.
Too expensive for what it was. The sirloin was truly underwhelming.
We have been here on multiple occasions. On our last few visits we have found that there is limited availability of many items on the menu. Also we have noticed that several items have been prepared with way too much salt. We are sorry that this has been our experience as we did in the past very much enjoy dining at MBK.
‘Can never say never’ but I will probably not return to this restaurant for the following reason:
Although a very nice restaurant with great service and drinks it was a bit ‘pricey’ for what was served -
I am sorry to say that there are so many very good restaurants in the area that I would return to before coming back to ‘Mockingbird ‘ 😟
