Mockingbird Kitchen and Bar
Mockingbird is always a favorite. Great food and atmosphere! The beer list also improved since the last time I was there.
Food was bland. Portions were small. Overpriced for the experience. Won’t be back
The Mockingbird is my favorite restaurant in Litchfield CT! If you are lucky they will have Fuzzy Baby Duck on tap. Get the chicken Picatta it is the best I have ever had. Order the creme brulee for dessert and you will be happy!
No I would not recommend this restaurant - it was only our 1st visit and were underwhelmed- few customers in the restaurant, food took a long time to come out of the kitchen, dressing was sparse on salads and pasta dish, average presentation, nothing special. we ended up closing windows because we were cold, wine selection was good. maybe next time? we heard great things and were disappointed. servers were nice , we were surprised the food was average.
Too expensive for what it was. The sirloin was truly underwhelming.
We have been here on multiple occasions. On our last few visits we have found that there is limited availability of many items on the menu. Also we have noticed that several items have been prepared with way too much salt. We are sorry that this has been our experience as we did in the past very much enjoy dining at MBK.
‘Can never say never’ but I will probably not return to this restaurant for the following reason:
Although a very nice restaurant with great service and drinks it was a bit ‘pricey’ for what was served -
I am sorry to say that there are so many very good restaurants in the area that I would return to before coming back to ‘Mockingbird ‘ 😟
Limited menu with Consistently well prepared food with a comfort food feeling. Great bar service as well.
The food and service are always stellar! The Thai noodles are AMAZING! Love the ambiance and cozy atmosphere. Great wine selection, just love this restaurant!
Very pleased with the overall experience!
Food was great service was excellent!
Food and service excellent. Took a long time for meal to come. Was there for 2 hours.
The renovations to the front of MKB make it look like the perfect comfortable and approachable place to dine. I am a regular visitor but everything was 'off' when I dined there this week. The pear salad had one pear slice, almost no cheese and no flavor to the dressing. The grilled Caesar salad that my friend had was the same. Tasteless. For a main course I had the pork dumpling appetizer. The wraps were dried out, although the dumpling and sauce were tasty. My friend had the sole, which was average. The low point of the meal was dessert, which we were SO looking forward to. The creme brûlée was soupy and the shell of the fruit tart was impenetrable with a fork. Made me wonder if there was a backup chef working that night. Definitely not up to their usual standards, but I will not give up!
Cobb Salad is the best anywhere. Every steak is cooked to perfection.
My husband and I were out of town for a wedding. I can’t eat meat so when we get to the wedding and there isn’t one vegetable option- I was livid! We searched the bear by area and Mockingbird was THE ONLY fine dining restaurant around that had something on the menu I could eat (besides a dressingless salad or a side.) Our food was amazing, the wait wasn’t that long, and our waitress Hilary was so sweet and friendly.
Next time I’m in Connecticut I’m coming back. It’s worth it.
While the food is good, the selection seems limited. We felt we had to settle on an entree rather than being forced to choose among tantalizing options. Two dishes had a Moroccan theme but the chicken tangine did not have a hint of Moroccan spices and was rather bland. Before returning to Mockingbird, we will check menu to see if it has changed or expanded.
It may have been the large party that was on the patio, but from the beginning things were not quite right. We were given "outdated" menus, decided on order and then found out could not have due to the menu slip up. Server truly seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but there. Food was ok, but feedback friends gave a sense of expectation that definitely was not met. May try again to see if the party thwarted the quality.
Unfortunately, upon this visit, within a minute of being seated at 715pm, we were advised that three entrees were no longer available (two of which were fish dishes and we are vegetarians), so we could not stay. We have eaten there before and have enjoyed the experience, however, we have now been twice and there have been sold out entrees at a reasonable dinner hour. We will definitely give Mockingbird another chance as it is local, we like the chef and the atmosphere. I guess we have just been unlucky.
We love going to MKB. We had another great time. My husband had the noddle dish... always his favorite and I had the Chicken, corn and whipped potato dish. Then we topped that off with her
homemade ice cream. It is unbelievable. I had the coffee and my husband had one with chocolate in it.
Really a lovely evening.
Great Atmosphere, friendly service, food was outstanding. Looking forward to returning.
I had an amazing tofu croquette dish, one of the best meals I’ve enjoyed ever. They were very busy with a hipster crowd cocktail party, great vibe.
Arrived early, sat outside on the patio under a beautiful tree. We started with the ceviche, I had the salmon which was really good, my date had the dry aged striploin which had a delicious blue cheese fritter melting perfectly on top. Service was enjoyable, the waiter recommended a great bottle of wine. Great spot, would recommend.
I would not. I often drink water with my meal and the quality of what was provided was so softened as to dramatically affect it's taste. In addition, since water softening agents are mostly sodium based, I had a reaction to drinking several (odd tasting glasses), The good news is that I was not sick from the food which was serviceable but overpriced.
The service was extremely slow. For example, my daughter ordered 3 oysters and my husband ordered vichyssoise for their apps and it took well over 30 mins for them to be delivered to our table. In terms of entrees...my husbands tiny piece of halibut was over cooked, my daughter’s ravioli was plain and just ok. They say they can acccommodate vegan, but really don’t have options. My “vegan” dish was kale. Won’t be going back any time soon.
In general, the Mockingbird was a good dining experience that needs some improvement. We had an outstanding salad with grilled peaches. The entrees were excellent -- a salmon entree and the fried chicken entree. Dessert was a disappointment -- a bland tasting chocolate lava cake that was not worth the $10 price.
The staff was friendly, but there were too few of them waiting on tables. The staff were hustling, but because they were too few there were long pauses between courses and when we wanted to get the check.
Promising, excellent in many ways, but needs some improvement.
Excellent dining experience. Food was outstanding with great service.
Service was good. Oysters were very good. My entree (fried chicken) was raw inside and had to be cooked again. Taken off the bill (as it should have been). My wife’s entree was “overly saged “. Wine was a good value.
First visit, decor is very nice, outside seating available even if it is right on a busy street. Like that the menu changes. Ordered the dim sum which didn't come complete and since it's unlikely being made in house was probably a mistake, it was just OK. Ordered the fish specialty which although it lacked seasoning was quite good. Ordered a mojito which was very disappointing, should have stuck to the wine list. Overall a nice dinner, would go back again.
Sadly I can’t recommend this restaurant. We met a high school classmate and we both grew up in Bantam so we were so excited. But we were placed next to an a/c duct and froze. There was a party next to us who were so loud they eventually apologized to us. Worst of all they lost track of our dinner order and it took 90 minutes for us to be served. We were given free glasses of wine. Food was OK but not exceptional by any means. Plates were $30, with no salad. Really disappointing.
Wonderful surprise to find this charming place! Food was delicious! I think we have a new favorite restaurant!
Very bad night! Service was TERRIBLE....no pesto pasta with no pesto...A/C unbearably cold...music too loud...no 'regular' ketchup...etc., etc.
Have had good nights there...but becoming increasingly unpredictable.
Sad to see!
Hello James, I'm sorry to hear you did not like our Polblano Pesto, made with poblano peppers, roasted corn, blisterd tomatoes. Perhaps the flavor profile was not what you were expecting? We do try to keep a comfortable tempure in the dinning room. As you may know we make everything from scratch at Mockingbird, including our ketchup. He do have Heinz available if you prefer. Sorry we did not deliver on our service. We hope you will come back and allow us another oppotunity.
We attended with another couple. On arrival we stood at the front desk for several minutes with no one in sight. One of us called the restaurant on a cell phone and told them we were standing in the front. They were obviously short staffed. It was a nice evening and we wanted to sit outside. The tables outside were closed but we were told by the owner that it was ok to sit there. We did get a waiter who, after telling us the outside was closed, was good natured about it and the service was good. Could not judge noise level since we were outside and alone, but the restaurant was not crowded on that Sunday evening. The menu was small (seemed much more limited than the on line version) and the dishes somewhat contrived so we settled for salmon burgers. They were ok, but a bit dry and served without any sauce. Served with french fries which were very good. It is obvious they are trying hard here but they do not seem to have it all together. We will probably try this again some other time, mainly because of the limited choices in the area for decent casual dining.
Delicious dinner - great wine - Perfect Value - Love it there
Lamb Fatoush, strip steak, rack of lamb and all the garnishing was excellent. So too was our waitress. We were in the inn's main room and the noise from other tables reverberated uncomfortably off the walls of that open, wood floored space.
Loved the light and locally sourced menu. We ordered from the “brunch” section, which did not disappoint. Interesting Prosecco drinks and a nice variety of sweet and savory options. Friendly service and a relaxed pace made for a great Father’s Day treat. Planning to go back for the outdoor patio some summer evening.
We’ve been to Mockingbird once before and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately something seems to have gone wrong this time. 2 of 4 meals were terrible due to over use of salt and service was absurdly slow. Ambiance is lovely - it’s very charming.
There are nor many choices on the menu. The food is overpriced.
Had steak frites...steak was so ‘tough’ it was almost inedible. First bad experience at the restaurant.
Great food! They were very understaffed - our waitress was friendly, but we were waiting quite a bit for service. She covered the entire restaurant, so I know she was trying her best.
Dinner was fantastic but the kitchen made a mistake and my dinner came out before my friends. Wait staff were great and the food delicious.
