    3 really good dishes out of the four, 4th very disappointing. Along with a number of restaurants, prices are very high, meaning it is very important that everything is very good. 50 pounds per head for 1 main course, 1 pre dinner and one low cost bottle of wine does not represent the best value in town at all.

    The atmosphere at Monteiths is lovely, food was good, the disappointment for me was that I had booked this for my partners birthday while visiting Edinburgh which I noted on the booking and nothing was mentioned, even a ‘happy birthday’ would have been a great personal touch so overall a little disappointing

    I visit Monteith's every time I visit Edinburgh. The food yet again was truly beautiful as are the cocktails. There is a real buzz to the atmosphere at Monteith's which I really enjoy, I have been as a couple and in a group and always feels perfect. We started with the Hand Dived Scallops and the Haddock Fish Cake, followed with the Pork Belly and Fillet Steak. Highly recommend.

    The food was excellent, particularly the venison with a side of mash. Cocktails and one are delicious. The service was very good, attentive and friendly. Would recommend!

    First time dining at Monteiths and overall a lovely experience. The staff were great; ambience in the restaurant was cosy and intimate, and over all the food was delicious. Only complaints was my husband had a fillet steak and the cut was beautiful it was just a bit over cooked so the meat was dry and also very pricey.

    there was nothing at all bad about this restaurant. I think it was so hyped that it fell a bit flat for my wife and I. the service was slow and the food was just average or maybe a bit above but nothing special.

    Really nice venue on the high street . Food and cocktails were really good . Nice ambience with the little lights on the archway and little candles on the tables. A wee bit slow with the food , but we were in no hurry .

    We ordered a bottle of red wine and our compliant wasn't that it was corked it was that it tasted terrible! i didn't appreciate being charged £15 for 2 glasses from the bottle that we didn't drink and they took them away.

    Monteiths has such a great atmosphere, contemporary, intimate and relaxed. The entrance is beautifully decorated and the bar is well stocked with lovely wines and cocktails. The food was well presented and delicious! Would definitely go again.

    We arrived at 7.50 for a drink as our table was for 8pm . We got a drink sitting in a rather drafty space and we weren’t taken to the table until 8.25. The menu was limited but the food tasted good. £39 for a fillet steak which was tiny was overpriced. The staff seemed a bit surly and not very friendly, maybe overly busy but we felt a bit uneasy. Overall 3*. Probably wouldn’t return due to the above.

    With its mystical entrance you are enticed inside low lighting enhances the feel very understated and casual feel but that doesn’t apply to the food which is excellent beautifully presented portion sizes are perfect enticing you to have another course which you won’t be disappointed in The service was beautifully timed with good knowledge of the dishes I would highly recommend and will book again for a future trip to Edinburgh

    Very small portion sizes. The starter of ‘scallops’ consisted of one scallop which was really disappointing considering the cost was £15. The lamb was undercooked and tough. Overall, most of the food we had was lovely, but definitely overpriced for the portions served.

    This is a very pleasant place to have a meal. It has a nice atmosphere, the staff are very welcoming and the service is faultless. The main dishes we ordered were all very good. One minor gripe is that we ordered two sides which were not up to the same standard. The mash was bland and lacked seasoning and a bit of dairy and the onion rings were quite greasy. All in all a positive experience and would go back.

    We had a wonderful dinner and the setting is very warm and cozy. Loved my Bees knees to start. The scallops, hot smoked salmon, monkfish, ribeye and wild mushrooms were delicious! Will be back on our next trip to Edinburgh.

    Great find. Small downstairs restaurant with a nice bar and atmosphere; including the background music. Food outstanding and service was impeccable. Had the roasted monkfish wrapped in pancetta. Yum! Side order of various varieties of sautéed mushrooms; again….Yum! Service staff very professional and knowledgeable of menus and drinks. Attentive as well. Would HIGHLY recommend.
