Lovely quaint little restaurant. Amazing food, & cocktails with great service too.
Although the food is very good , the portion size of one of the starters was very small indeed. It’s very noisy so we did have difficulty hearing each other . I think it is very expensive for what you get and there are plenty of other restaurants with as good or better food in the area for less cost .
We appreciated the thought and creativity that came through in all their food and cocktails, and they were very welcoming. Glad we heard about them from hotel staff, because they’re tucked away and easy to miss. Make a reservation for dinner or plan to eat early to ensure you can get a table - we had to come back because they were all booked up on our first try.
Quite simply the best meal in ages! Amazing service and great atmosphere... I was thrilled with the food and the characterful menu with gorgeous flavours
Fabulous food, great atmosphere and attentive service. Will definitely go there again
First time visit. Nice enough. Expensive and although staff were lovely service was slow. Nice for a one off but wouldn’t rush back.
Loved it so much we had to go back the next night! The goat cheese balls and smoked bacon rashers were excellent starters. The venison was cooked perfectly. On the second night, we had the chateaubriand with both the béarnaise and peppercorn sauces, and it was an absolutely perfect meal. The bartenders serve up expert cocktails. Most of all, the entire staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
Wonderful evening and exceptional food
My partner and I had a great evening, excellent food and service
Overall it was a good experience but not exceptional. Food was really good but the sole was under cooked, two cocktails were taken off the bill. Service was good but not amazing. It was our anniversary but that was not acknowledge.
We luckily found Monteith's on the Royal Mile and were not disappointed. The staff were excellent and friendly - very welcoming and fun. Great cocktails. Space is very tight but we dined late and were given a spacious table even though there were only two of us. I would highly recommend it.
Went as a party of 8 for my daughters birthday. Staff were amazing we had two small children with us and they don’t generally take children. I don’t think but they went out of their way for us. Food was excellent 2 couples had chateaubriand and were exceptionally pleased. Cocktails very innovative. We will all return both together as a family and as individual couples. Highly recommend visiting this restaurant
Even the haggis is great!
This was my second visit to Monteiths and it was as good as I remembered. I was celebrating my birthday with my husband and daughters, from the pretty entrance to the great music and wonderful ambiance we knew I'd made the right decision. Friendly staff, great cocktails and good quality food means we'll be back.
Lovely restaurant in central location. Good ambience and nice bar area. Enjoyed the cocktails, and the food was excellent. Let down by slow service which I would expect to be better in this type of restaurant with this price range of food.
Great service, excellent food - rather small portions, even for girls, but then again we had room for dessert :-)
Had a great time last weekend in Monteiths for my wife’s birthday. Food was excellent and coupled with fabulous cocktails and great service really made her birthday special. We will be returning and added this place to our list of favourites.
Very disappointed at the cramped feeling within the restaurant. The chairs were unsteady. The food was first class with the exception of the starters which were warm rather than hot and of meagre proportions. The desert menu was lacking in choice. One complaint is the menu itself which was unreadable in the light of the restaurant the typing needs to be bolder
It is brilliant restaurant. Nice food nice service there. Seafood is fabulous.
Cocktails are the reason to visit here. Delicious and creative. The food was only okay, which made it feel overpriced.
We enjoyed our dinner at the Monteiths. It was quite busy in the bar area on the Saturday night but we were seated in a quieter part of the restaurant. My wife had smokie risotto, followed by a special lobster, both were lovely. I had oysters and venison, also quite happy. The server, Monica, was very attentive and personable. We did not try the wine, but everything else was near-perfect.
The food was really nice and the atmosphere seemed quite lively.
Amazing ambiance, great food, would def go back!!
Having a few days in Edinburgh from Brighton.Came accross Monteiths totally by chance , saw the menu outside and went in.Lovely ambiance food great staff friendly.A bit pricey but worth paying a bit more.Would come here again.
Been back twice when visiting Edinburgh and would recommend to anybody.
Was far too cramped and very dark had to use torches on our phones to read the menu. Service was ok they were very busy and food was nice enough but very overpriced. Not worth the money.
Food was absolutely lovely only topped by the outstanding service my partner and I received.
Overall , a very good lunch. Staff very firendly and offered good service. Exciting cocktail making going on at the bar, excellent drinks. My only negative was the starter I ordered - the crispy squig. For £8.50, i got a minute amount of squid on a very basic salad - quite tasty, but bad value for money.
The food at Monteith’s was disappointing, everything was cooked ok, it was bland and under seasoned. Cocktails were very good. I feel like more effort was put in to the cocktail/bar side of the business than the food despite being a sizeable restaurant.
Loved it here--would have been 5 stars if not for the wait (we had a reservation and had to wait nearly an hour).
Wonderful service, really cool atmosphere, and very unique and yummy cocktail options! A unique take on traditional Scottish food. Would definitely go back!
Food as usual was veery good though the restaurant seemed very noisy and our table was overly small and cramped.
Had a lovely meal at Monteiths. Lovely atmosphere and great food.
All food excellent. The haggis bons bons are really tasty and the bloody Mary sauce is a great pairing with the. We always have the ribeye steak. Always well cooked and delicious. Excellent choice of wines and cocktails
Amazing food and cocktails - would definitely recommend and will return when in Edinburgh again
My third visit and whilst food is still good, it does seem to have more of a bar ambience than a restaurant; 80s disco music fine at bar but a bit ill judged for diners in a restaurant marketing itself as intimate. Cocktails were good. Table service a bit erratic.
We were in Edinburgh on holiday and had read about Monteith's, which received raved reviews so we gave it a try and it was a fabulous experience! Neat bar, very friendly wait staff and upbeat place in a very fun location! We will go back next time we visit Edinburgh.
Royal Mile restaurant offering a nice setting with some traditional Scottish food. Has quite a wide menu with enough choice to suit most people. I had fish and chips with mushy peas( would have like a decent veg portion rather than a garnish portion). Freshly cooked and tasty. Partner had burger which was proper quality meat. We had booked and it was busy even early Monday lunch time. We were offered water as well as drinks which I like. They did not stock irn bru so think they should have that as it is popular for scottis people. Friendly staff. Nice clean toilets and gentle lighting and music.
My 3rd visit and still charming. We gad to alter the booking 3 time, due to a delay with a flight arrival of more than 3 hours ar Edinburgh.
The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the food perfect as always.
