Awesome find!! The food was amazing, staff were really friendly and happy to cater to us.
Very glad we used an itison voucher & didn’t pay full price. The food was not nearly as good as we expected. Dry turkey, virtually raw sprouts, dried up stuffing & a tiny haggis starter. The young man serving us was charming but his female colleague was stoney faced & quite officious. Not quite the meal & experience we would have liked but thankfully we enjoyed a family gathering despite this.
The weather could not have been worse when we visited. Tucked away down a small close in the High Street, with its twinkling fairy lights immediately creating a warm welcome, we forgot immediately the harsh Scottish winter weather we’d just left behind.
Staff are on hand right away to take your coats and bags, then offer you a seat and drink at the bar area prior to showing you to your table. Once seated, they are attentive but not overly so.
The food overall was delicious however there was a vegetarian in our party and this was outlined on the on-line booking form. Although the vegetarian risotto on the main menu was scrumptious, it would have made us feel more welcome had this fact been acknowledged when the waiter came to take our order, with an alternative vegetarian option being offered.
My friends and I loved this place. Great ambience, great menu (food and drink) and great service. If you’ve not been you should book now.
Lovely meal to celebrate my son's 30th birthday. Great food and service, would highly recommend!
First time trying the a la carte menu . Food was exceptional and our server brilliant. We will be back
Simply Awesome Scottish food...but worth every pound , wouldn’t hesitate to recommend
Lovely little place that was recommended to me through a work colleague to take my girlfriend out to celebrate our anniversary. She liked it so much she suggested that we go every year to celebrate. The restaurant has nice ambiance and the member of staff who look after us was fantastic also.
Fabulous food and great location. A little wait for our table but it was well worth it!
Excellent Food, excellent service, highly recommend.
This was my second visit, it did not disappoint. Food is delicious. I ask myself if it’s over priced but I enjoy it so as long as the food is really good the cost becomes irrelevant.
Our table wasn’t ready, the plates were warmer than the food, the scallops were tiny & in some cases had more roe than scallop. White wine was served in red wine glasses, steak knives weren’t sharp & overall the food was overpriced.
Visited Montieths on the recommendation of a friend, very impressed with the food and service despite the resturant being incredibly busy. Would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh and wanting to splash out on a special meal.
Love this place. Never disappointed. Stunning food and gorgeous cocktails in a beautifully relaxed environment. One of our favourite restaurants in Edinburgh.
This was our third visit to Monteiths which we have much enjoyed on previous visits. Waitress service was exremely good but not intrusive in any way. Only point I must mark down was their accompaniment of what they still call "fries". Previously these were chunky chips but now are what I would call "fried straw" - not pleasant & only edible using fingers.
Change back Montieths - this is a fad too far!
This was a great find. Doesn't stand out from the street but this adds to the character with the quirky entrance down the little alleyway. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience
Another visit to this little gem of a restuarant and we weren't disappointed
From the friendly welcome , the lovely cocktails and the cosy atmosphere on a damp Sat afternoon to our superb lunch
We had an itison voucher for rib eye steaks but decided to order some starters- risotto and haggis bonbons. They were both delicious Then came 2 Rib eyes plus side of chilli garlic broccoli and smoked mushrooms and the chips and pepper sauce. Needless to say no room for dessert so we'll come back and might manage this another day
Oh and the Bees Knees Cocktail.....What can I say except superb
Love the atmosphere in Monteiths. Friendly staff, efficient service and good food. Steak was cooked to perfection and the cheeseboard was amazing. We'll be back again.
Booked following a recommendation and glad we did. Great food with excellent service
I always visit Monteiths when Im in Edinburgh. This time we had dinner which was amazing. Lovely staff and great food and the ambience is second to none. Go there!
The food here is fantastic! Great for special occasion! Very good service!
Had a lovely meal with my partner. Food was fab & service was very good.
Really enjoyed our lunch, great service, food and wine!!
The food and atmosphere was great. Portions were on the small side however was lovely. Scallops was too small and only received 4.
Lovely decor and great staff
The service was great. We thought the menu was really nice and suited all four of us and the food was fantastic
Great steak, cocktails and service.
Great place! We really enjoyed how the place is setup and decorated. Food and service was fantastic!
Was a lovely meal but quite expensive for what it was. Not enough to fill my husbands stomach.
Amazing wee gem with amazing food, service and choices of drinks. Food really was first class! Hidden gem
Perfect Scottish menu and dining experience.
The only thing would be the chips. They were chunky chips and so I don’t feel they cooked fully as they were quite hard. Otherwise everything was lovely.
Lovely restaurant. The decor is very quaint, food and drinks are inventive and fresh. Food was delicious!
In the heart of the Royal Mile this gem of a restaurant offers AMAZING staff, a beautiful ambience, and really great food. The menu changes regularly to keep up with seasonal ingredients. Always a nice selection, and always prime steaks. The bar staff make very creative cocktails to order, and they have all the classics as well. Really thoughtful wine list that the staff can walk you through like experts. Some very off the beaten path choices--and the list changes fairly often as well! There aren't many tables, so book ahead so you won't be disappointed, especially in the summer and on weekends. I make it a point to eat at Monteiths every time I visit Edinburgh.
Excellent meal. We weren’t expecting much as hadn’t heard much about this restaurant however we were very pleasantly surprised. Great service and recommendations and delicious food. Will be back! Hidden gem
The food at Monteiths is delicious! A perfectly cooked steak, perfectly sized meals and a great place to be adventurous with cocktails. I would highly recommend a dinner or lunch here.
Fab ambience but food was a little overpriced. Only one vegetarian meal option was disappointing but the meat eaters enjoyed their choices. Wouldn't go back again but if you're looking for ambience then this place is great and good drinks too!
Excellent. Me and the girlfriend were away in Edinburgh for the weekend and literally stumbled across this place. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome and the service continued at a high standard all night. Both the bar and restaurant staff couldn’t be more helpful and were so interactive with explaining the concepts, food and cocktails. The food was amazing, the baked cod was one of the finest fish meals Iv ever had. Definitely give this place a look in if you’re in Edinburgh.
As always. The food /wine and atmosphere excellent. Staff very friendly . I would recommend . Try the fillet steak!!
Great food, great service. Can’t fault the place
Food good. steak very fatty would not pay full price for it at all. chips and bernaise delish as was fudge. Service decent but waiters seem to try and be the best friend to those who look to tip highly and ignore those who don't. Waiter just walked off after realising we were there only for the groupon voucher. Barman with the tattoo sleeve has tried to overcharge me a few times so beware.
