Turned up to find out that the place is actually shut and hasn’t opened for a while, no idea why they are still allowing bookings through the website, waste of everyone’s time! We ended up having no where to eat as everyone finishes at 6pm we had to grab a burger from McDonald’s what a let down honestly.
Great food, good choice and delicious cocktails. Friendly service.
Not a huge menu but what we had was extremely good quality. Quite pricey but worthwhile as a special treat. Would definitely recommend it.
Food was excellent. Surprised to find on arrival (8pm) that for such a limited main course menu, 8 items, (which was fine as we already had seen this) that they had already run out of two of the main courses!
Dessert menu only had two choices plus a cheese selection. could do with another 1 or 2
Didn't think that the chairs were very comfortable and the tables were very small, almost the size of a garden bistro set. Would have expected a Biot more for the prices charged.
That said the food food was excellent and would recommend.
Very nice food albeit slightly overpriced... pictures online make it seem more cosy and casual but actually the dark lighting means the atmosphere is more date night than family affair. Definitely not somewhere to take your Gran!
Also tables are rather close together so wouldn’t recommend if concerned about close proximity to other households.
Service was lovely though, our waitress was bubbly and friendly, we had to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready but staff were very apologetic.
Was on a date and the full experience was incredible! Will definitely be back in the near future
Had a lot of recommendations from family and friends and monteiths really lived up to our expectations!
Food quality and flavours, overall was OK. 2 starters had to returned as they were cold, drinks arrived half through starter, then again half through main course. We expected portions to be slightly more generous . Expensive , slightly over £200 for 4 people with no wine , 5 alcoholic drinks.
Great place! Will go back. They make an excellent cocktail!
Very comfortable and cosy setting and delicious high quality food. The cocktails are also very tasty
Expensive for what it is but I guess you're paying for the location. Our table wasn't ready for us at 7:30, so with the new 10pm curfew we had to rush our food when we finally got served.
It’s a hidden gem. Amazing food. Great service. Lovely wines. Good cocktails. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back
Amazing meal, my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh! Food was outstanding, ate decor and atmosphere was lovely! Couldn’t fault at all
The most delicious meal I’ve ever eaten. Everything was great, staff, food, drinks and the surroundings. Pricey and not big portions but worth it, just get chips to bulk up 😂
Love everything about Monteiths. The food, the drinks, the ambience and the staff. You simply can’t get better. I had the most amazing oysters as usual. Lamb was delicious. Beautiful chocolate tart as well. The cocktails and wine were just unbelievable. Can’t wait to go back.
Enjoyed an excellent steak and good wine with friends. We used our Itison voucher and it proved to be great value for money. Tasty cocktails and friendly staff.
The restaurant is tucked away in a lane off the historic Royal Mile but it wasn’t a tourist trap.
Excellent meal and great setting. Great cocktails for after dinner drinks
Waited 6 months to use an Itison voucher. Had the chateaubriand with chips and sauce, glass of wine each then coffees and fudge. Everything was fantastic from service to food. Enjoyed a better wine later. Will try a cocktail on our next visit. Heard a lot about this restaurant and was not disappointed. Thoroughly recommend. Will be booking again soon.
Great to be back after so long, seems to have been taken up a notch.
Food was excellent. Will be back soon.
I felt the food was quite average given the price...expensive for what it was, especially the starter that was lukewarm. :/
Excellent decor, service and venue. Simple but great menu
the service was good, the food and drinks excellent, but the atmosphere is the absolute best part. you enter under a string lit overhead down into a quaint yet cool interior. highly recommend.
Monteiths is consistently good - great fun, fantastic service and a good atmosphere
Amazing experience at Monteith's restaurant recently. We took Canadian and Irish visitors and they all raved about it. Great food, decor and staff. Highly recommend. We'll be back.
When we said we were in happy with the dessert, the waiter returned from the kitchen and said that they had a heat issue in the kitchen and it should not have been sent out. But they had sent it out.
Excellent, forgot one order of cocktails and had to chase after 20 mins but otherwise service and food was excellent. Steaks are fantastic!
The lunch menu was outstanding and great value. I had the house white was great.
Monteith's is a small, slightly rustic, lively bar and restaurant. All staff are attentive and will help make a visit a memorable experience. Excellent selection of bar drinks and cocktail menu. Limited but adequate menu of tasty and well-presented dishes at ££ price point for Edinburgh. Not best suited for Vegetarian/Vegan diners. Highly recommend.
Good food, friendly service, nice atmosphere. Had a lovely evening in here entertaining clients.
We eat here quite regularly, however on our last trip the steaks were slightly more well done than we would have liked. The new dessert menu is pretty poor too. Although, overall we had a lovely time.
Lovely time, location an food. Will definitely be back
Travelling from Lancashire with my partner, I had asked for recommendations from friends for a great place to eat in Edinburgh. Having been to this great city before, I was open to ideas.
This restaurant had been recommended from a friend who had travelled up to Edinburgh in the previous year. Having checked the menu prior to going and the reviews, we were keen to make a visit.
After finding the place ok, upon arrival we were welcomed by the staff, and asked if we wanted a drink before we sat, of which we did. 15 minutes later we were shown to our seats at the back of the restaurant.
Unfortunately, whilst the food was fantastic, the atmosphere was slightly not enjoyable due to the room temperature. Visiting a restaurant like this you want to feel comfortable as part of the experience, and sadly it was ruined slightly because of this.
It may have been the case, that on the night we visited the heating in the restaurant was our of use, however this was not mentioned to us by the staff. All that could suggest this was by the presence of a small electric heater which was not doing the job.
Overall, the experience was not great, despite the great food. We visited a couple of restaurants in our short stay in Edinburgh, and if we were to recommend a restaurant to a friend who was visiting, we wouldn't make this the number one place to visit.
This was an excellent choice for lots of reasons! Food was excellent and the staff brilliant. Despite it being a Monday night where we had some space, the ambience was still great, it's a really lovely venue that we would very happily recommend! Also a nice covered outside space that still private for those who need a breather!
We had dinner here on Valentine's Day. Very cool vibe, excellent food, attentive wait staff.
Lovely evening and the food and wine were delicious! We will definitely be back.
Lovely decor / feel, great service and delicious - definitely worth a trip
Amazing place and experience with outstanding food, drinks and staff. Thank you.
Amazing service and food. Best cocktails in Edinburgh.
Food and services are fantastic. Will visit again. Thank you!
