Monteith's is a hidden gem. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. The cocktails were pretty fabulous too
The food was amazing and we might come back again later.
Had the perfect evening with my partner. Food Cocktails and atmosphere was superb and we’ve already recommend this to our friends. Was nice to have a stroll up to the castle in the after before getting an uber back
Excellent will go back again for sure , lovely food
Had a lovely meal. We got caught in traffic so we’re 15minites late but we phoned ahead and staff were lovely and told us not to worry. We found the restaurant easily and what a gorgeous entrance, a willow tunnel lit up to guide us down a small alleyway. Decor inside was modern, dark and cosy. Food was great. I had queen scallops to start and hubby had haggis. Scallops were amazing. Hubby enjoyed haggis which was on the spicy side but was very tasty. Think I won best starter! Hubby ordered the monkfish curry and wow what a plateful he had. It was almost too much for him to finish. I had the pork which was very nice but think hubbys dish won for the mains. Staff were very attentive. No pudding or coffee as we were heading to the theatre and had limited time. A couple if glasses of prosecco and wine were included in our bill which was just over £100. A pricy meal but definitely worth it if you are looking for a somewhere a bit special.
The muscle starter followed with
Monkfish curry was excellent. Highly recommend the dining experience....
Great atmosphere, lovely staff, great food. We will be back!
We enjoyed our night at Monteiths, food, service and surroundings were very good. Possibly a bit tight around the table but would definitely return.
Really enjoyed our meal here the food was amazing, great sevice and would recommend this place to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
Fab cocktails, great food and really nice service. The team were fantastic.
The food was amazing, they have a great selection of drinks and the service always came with a smile. The restaurant itself is decorated well and makes for a lovely dining experience. I’d thoroughly recommend this to anyone
Tasty and authentic food, very good Wine list with large choice of red and whites. We enjoyed a lot our dinner there and we’ll come back next in the city.
Lovely hidden gem, haggis starter was superb and the steak was very high quality
All excellent, a bit noise but very trendy so...normal
Fantastic food and great service. Not an extensive menu but everything is cooked fantastically well deliciously presented. My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh.
Wonderful experience as ever with delicious food and amazing cocktails
Nice overall atmosphere and the food albeit quite expensive was of a good quality .
Too many staff interrupt the meal to ask if everything ok and did we wants more drinks which I wpuld say is the only negative point .
Delicious food, attentive but not intrusive service, good choice of predinner drinks and wine list. We had eaten here before and the quality of the food and dining experience was just as good as the first time. I am often reluctant to recommend restaurants if I’m not a regular diner there, but I would make an exception here.
Thank you for complimentary Prosecco. Added to our lovely evening with good friends.
Excellent meal in a cosy, comfortable atmosphere.
We were the only ones in the restaurant when we first arrived but the staff made sure we felt welcome and not awkward. The place quickly filled up though and we had such a nice time we stayed for longer than expected.
Great food and service would definitely recommend.
Excellent food, service & drinks.
The bar snacks are great over a few cocktails which are all delightful, the bartender working on the evening(didn’t catch his name) is amazing, really chatty & good fun with great drinks knowledge. The free cocktail & 15% off for booking with open table is a great touch in January.
Always happy here. We love the music too.
Very disappointed on our latest visit. 3 of us ordered food only for one steak to be served well done instead of medium rate. When telling the waiter was made to feel like it was our fault and he only offered to replace the single steak, leaving one person to wait another 20mins.
Complained to the manager who did arrange fir 3 new steaks but this then took 40 minutes when promised 20, when chased were treated with frustration, no apology throughout this process
We have eaten at Monteiths many times so use it to entertain important clients, this was very embarrassing for us and it has out us off returning again
Amazing, great dining in the heart of the Royal Mile. Seasonal menu, fresh ingredients, fine food. Some great cocktails from professional barmen/women. This is a cozy, small establishment, so book to guarantee a table. I visit every time I'm in Edinburgh--it's that nice.
The food wasn't bad, but portions way to small for the prise they charge.
We ordered an onion soup, it was a good soup but 9 pounds for 4 full spoons is way over the top.
Same for the main dishes, 20 pounds for 2 small pieces of chicken, it should have been served on a golden plate for that price.
Same for the steak, 34 pounds for a steak with a bottom of sauce and 10 fries.
Great find, lovely diner for two on New Years Day. Would definitely recommend
Small venue, so some tables are a little inconvenient, but food quality was good, cooked well with quality ingredients.
Excellent. Had a great time.
Superb food and wine selection. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Highly recommend.
Great interior design with a cozy feel however the portions were very small- even for a petite person like myself. Their menu/portions reminded me of a fine dining experience in a small cozy restaurant. The food was average and expensively priced for what it was. Drinks were great and service was great. Overall it was not a bad experience, however I can't say I would go back or recommend to a friend.
We have been many times to Monteith's, and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. One of their plus points is their outdoor seating/smoking area, which is comfortable and has heaters for cold days. However on this visit the door from the restaurant to the outdoor area was locked. A member of the bar staff had to be called for to unlock it, as the waiting staff didn't appear to have the key. This door is clearly marked as a fire escape. When this was pointed out to the bar staff member, suggesting it was just as well there was no fire on this occasion, he said "Lucky us" in quite a dismissive manner. He then did not point out that the door would not open from the outside, just closed it after us, and shut the curtain.
Although the food was good, and the waiters friendly and professional, the poor attitude of the bar staff member, and the danger of locking a fire escape door in a basement restaurant, will stop us from visiting again.
Great food and friendly staff! Highly recommended.
Pretty good food overshadowed by poor service and extremely long waits for food. A staff that couldn’t care less and kept giving us excuse after excuse for everything. The place was really busy so they couldn’t seat us (meanwhile people were coming in after us and getting seated before us even with a reservation). Mains took 90 minutes to arrive from time of ordering, and they just couldn’t be bothered on any of it. Again, people who sat down after us were done with meals before mains even arrived. I normally give places the benefit of the doubt but wouldn’t go back here.
Cosy and intimate with excellent food and reasonable wine list. The menu is not extensive but offers a good range of choice made with local ingredients. Would recommend.
Wait time between courses was long and when our food came it was over cooked and the main course (pork belly) was very salty. Not good value for money and we were disappointed given reviews we had read. However the staff were attentive and very pleasant. Wouldn’t rush back.
Wonderful and interesting menu. Simple nice decor. Really tasty dishes and wonderful international wine selection. Recommend!
Comida deliciosa, por error reservé para dos personas y eramos 4. La host super amable nos arregló una mesa de inmediato. Definitivamente volveriamos.
A nice find, just off the Royal Mile. I wanted something special for our Christmas Eve dinner and Monteiths turned out to be perfect! Great food and service!
