Monteiths bar & restaurant is nestled in a fairy-lit close in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. The award winning venue is located just off the historic Royal Mile and combines chic cocktail bar with intimate restaurant. A favourite of locals and visitors alike, Monteiths is a must for relaxed dining and innovative cocktails. Monteiths is by the team behind the White Horse Oyster Bar, Chop House Leith, Market St. & Bruntsfield.
Tucked into a cozy corner along the Royal Mile, it is a wonderful place for lunch.
There were 4 in our party and everyone enjoyed every choice we had made from the menu. Scottish favourites such as haggis, Arbroath smokies (used in a rich and tasty risotto) and venison were served with individual touches that made the dishes special. We would definitely return next time we go to Edinburgh.
Late lunch with colleagues..restaurant was very quiet. Food ok. Service ok...
Staff very helpful re allergies. However we go there to eat every year when we come to the fringe and found the choices were limited & portions smaller this year. My husband as no allergies and was disappointed with the limited menu
Very friendly & helpful staff. Great food (I even managed to get the recipe for their fabulous chutney)
A terrific evening with excellent food and a masterclass in cocktail making. It’s the middle of EdFringe and the Tattoo, so of course the place was fully booked. Nonetheless the service was gracious and not rushed. The venison, new on the recently refreshed menu, was superb.
The food was delicious. The only reason I haven’t given it full score is because they forgot our order, therefore the food took very long to come.
We were a party of three. One person’s main course arrived as the other two were finishing.
Excellent service, fantastic food and a really lovely restaurant with great staff. Thank You we will definitely be coming back next time we are in Edinburgh.
What a wonderful restaurant the Food and service is brilliant. Not pompous but very special
Very good food and service. Especially the cocktails were delicious! But price quality we thought it was a little bit too exprensive.
We had a wonderful dinner. Food was excellent, beautifully presented. Drinks were delicious. The lamb was the best I have ever had. Service was VERY good, our waitress extremely attentive. I would definitely recommend.
Service was great until we were completely finished, all dishes/glasses removed and the waiter was no where to be found with our bill. The food and drinks were really good and loved the ambiance, so I would come back just will make sure to get the bill early.
Lovely evening spent with friends. Had an a great meal and drinks .
Had an absolutely wonderful meal with great wine. Very attentive friendly staff. Great atmosphere perfect lighting. Only negative we felt the desserts are over priced. But we will definitely return.
Excellent, though over-priced food, cheerful and efficient waitstaff, a bit cramped and very noisy, Monteith’s is a fine restaurant that has been around a while but might be best for affluent young people.
When I booked the table I requested a quiet table due to my husband having hearing issues. I asked if this wasn't possible then for us to be put at a table next to a wall so we would have noise on one side of us. We were seated at a table in between 2 tables with large groups of people and also in between the only 2 speakers in the restaurant. The noise level was so unpleasant and uncomfortable for my husband we left before dessert. The food was poor, herb twigs in my chicken liver parfait, chicken skin wasn't crispy on my roast chicken and the crackling on the belly pork was rubbery. We won't be eating here again. Birthday treat spoilt.
Excellent meal and service. Would defiantly recommend.
Wonderful atmosphere. GREAT FOOD. Attentive service. We loved it, thank you x
Very pleasant venue with quite good food and excellent service.
Quite expensive, novalue for money.
We were with two kids and they didn't give us any sugestions.
They should advice it's not a place for kids.
Excellent food and bar cocktails.
Far exceeded expectations. Top quality food.
A little expensive but that is to be expected for quality food on the Royal Mile
Amazing food and service. Possibly the best food I’ve ever had
Lovely ambience, with food ok but quite pricey. Great drinks. Not kids friendly.
Produits excellents et très bel accueil
À refaire quand de nouveau à Edinburgh
Lovely food and atmosphere. Great service.
A bit on the loud side, but if don’t mind it the food and service more than makes up.
Accessed through, what feels like a secret, a side entrance the royal mile this is a very special sophisticated restaurant with great ambience, just the right level of staff attentiveness, and great food. Would definitely return.
Fab meal, will defiantly be back!
First time at Monteiths. Beautiful entrance, lovely vibe, food and wine excellent! A real treat....
Absolutely loved the food and service here.
The menu was small but varied with plenty of side options!
Dessert what delicious.
Service was very friendly!
Excellent food. Good service
Really stylish restaurant for special occasions- only negative is that it is a wee bit pricey (but not unfair for the style and type of food) and that there are no vegetarian main course options which is a shame.
Food was incredibly good value. Service was sensational.
Superb meal. We started with excellent oysters. I then had the lobster thermidor and my wife had the baked cod. All was superb. The meal was so good, we had to have dessert. Lemon tart and poached pear were the perfect ending. Service was fantastic and the atmosphere was an interesting eclectic.
Monteiths had been highly recommended by two separate people when they’d learned of our trip to Edinburgh. Conveniently located in Old Town, we were sure to make reservations well in advance. Glad we did so as the table seatings are quite limited in this below street level dining facility.
The menu offered more selections than we anticipated with starters we enjoyed ranging from tomatoes and mozzarella (which our server identified as salmon when brought to the table), soup and chicken parfait/pate. My half lobster and fries with herb butter main course was excellent and my husband and dining companions felt similarly about their choices including the lamb, a small but well prepared portion.
We were all a bit surprised by the rather inexperienced waitstaff that contributed to service that was less than what would generally be expected in an establishment such as this but hopefully with time this issue will be overcome and not detract from future diners satisfaction.
Fabulous food and lovely staff, we will be back! xxx
A delightful meal with wonderful service. Our best in Edinburgh.
So amazing. Delish food and awesome service
Excellent steaks and drink selections. Very cosy place.
