The Winter Menu is great value for money. Both starters of chicken and soup were good and we both thought the shepherds pie was very good; importantly the gravy was very good. Great ambience in the restaurant with friendly staff.

Went for a quiet lunch for two. It was perfect, warm and friendly service, nice ambience, delicious food. I can recommend the Ox Seafood Platter.

This restaurant stands head and shoulders above the majority. The environment and ambience truly add to the experience. The service is excellent - attentive but not too much. Staff are highly trained and care! Food quality was superb and the portions just right. Will be returning!

Read good things about this restaurant so decided to travel down to York for lunch for my wife's birthday - and we were not disappointed. Lovely setting by the river. Very friendly staff on arrival and during service. The food was great - we both loved the scallops with squid ink risotto, and the pheasant (me) and chicken (my wife) were both delicious. And my wife was given a little birthday treat to finish off the meal. Would also recommend the Balfour Nanette rose wine from Kent - apparently not so popular with diners, but it should be! All in all, a memorable meal. It's not easy to find places which offer their a la carte menu at lunchtimes, so well done to The Star Inn The City.

Our second time visiting and the service by Andrea was exceptional. We were made to feel valued and our requests were no bother at all. Other establishments could learn a thing or too by visiting here. Our food was delicious especially the cakes and we were very full! A must do experience when visiting York and for special occasions. We hope to visit again very soon!
