Unfortunately, the service was lacking. There were a lot of servers walking around, but none seemed to be actively working. Had to ask for refills multiple times, food had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. Burger (which is usually fantastic at NYAJ) was almost inedible. Chicken Piccata was overcooked. It took over 20 minutes to get our soft drinks and over 45 minutes to get our meals.
Previously one of our favorite go-to restaurants, but not sure we will be back.
this location has always had a little trouble with cleanliness. Same this time.
I always look forward to eating at Not Your Average Joe's in Gaithersburg. There are so many tasty meals on the menu and the service is friendly. Meeting my close friend at NYAJ was a perfect way to reconnect in person after the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted. The servers were attentive without being intrusive, the food was quite good and plentiful, it wasn't too noisy, and we felt like we could take our time enjoying the meal and each other's company.
Too cold inside
Pleasing as always! The food, the service, and the lovely weather on the patio made our lunch quite enjoyable.
It was wonderful to dine with friends again. We all enjoyed our meal, the ambiance, and the service.
Prior to lockdown, we had been regular customers to Joe’s. This was our first time back. It was wonderful. Our server was great, the food delicious, drinks were yum. So happy to be back!
Lunch outing with friends after long year...service was very good and outdoor patio is great for getting together. We never were rushed and were able to sit leisurely and catch up. We all had the Waldorf salad...2 topped with chicken and 1 with salmon. The chicken topped salads were fair...amount of fruit and nuts were not generous. The salmon piece was very nice. I’ve ordered the same salad in the past and the ingredients were more generous.
Such a great overall experience I mentioned it on the Support Moco Restaurants Facebook group !
Great experience Would definitely go back again. It was my first time. Everything was great.
Service was horrible, host was rude. Multi problems with the food, and bill.
I brought my sister here for her birthday because I’ve always enjoyed Average Joe’s as I frequently visit the Bethesda location. I’m saddened to say the quality of the food has declined. The complimentary bread was ice cold and stale and when I asked the server for hot bread he says it doesn’t come hot ☹️
The chicken Parmesan my sister ordered was disgusting; tasted old snd reheated. This was sent back to the kitchen. The manager asked if he could bring something else but there was nothing else on the menu she liked
I was so disappointed and embarrassed because I had chosen the restaurant.
I understand with the pandemic businesses saw major decline but once they open doors, I fully expected to get a similar experience from previous visit and this was not.
Love their outdoor patio, hostess and server we friendly. I think just like any other place I have been to in the past year, service is a little slow which is understandable. Overall, good experience.
The food is always good here. Wait staff are courteous and prompt - always enjoy a meal at Not Your Average Joe's.
Always a nice place to come to and the outside patio is wonderful.
Great spot! Try the chicken and shrimp rice bowl. It won’t disappoint.
Joe's is back, and seems to be none the worse for wear in terms of food and menu choices, but maybe some of the servers that were lost didn't find their way back. Our waiter was less knowledgeable about the menu than we were, and seemed to have forgotten about us once we got our food. Drinks would have been a nice option.
Food was just ok. Menu in restaurant is limited compared to the old days.
the outdoor area was well spaced and kept very warm. as usual the food and beer are good.
First dine in experience since the pandemic!
The food was excellent, cleanliness of the restaurant was great the only downfall was we had a young server who needs to learn to pull his pants up because nobody wants to look at anybody’s underwear when their dining and be more responsive and audible to his tables and check on them a little more frequently.
We had a server in training and while she was very sweet, we got one plate for bread (there were 2 of us) and we ordered were never offered refills on drinks. As a matter of fact, we never saw her after we placed our order. Ever.
Very poor service, as the restaurant failed to provide enough wait staff.
we were practically the only people in the dining room yet the service was terrible.
We waited 20 minutes after our reservation time before I had to get up to ask someone to take our order.
We were seated outside under the only heating lamp that wasn’t working, and I had to again ask someone to turn it on for us.
My wife’s food, the mustard chicken, was cold and bland.
The potstickers were just your average potstickers.
The poke bowl was fine, but the amount of pickled onions was over the top, and it really doesn’t need mushrooms. The amount of actual tuna was disappointing as well.
By the time I notified management and requested my bill, my wife was in tears as it was our first meal out in over six months.
I know COVID-19 has been rough on businesses, and I hate to leave a bad review, but in this case it was deserved. The staff had empathy for our situation, but unfortunately no one made us feel welcome with their actions, much less special.
This is the only time I have not left a tip for a server. I would feel awful as a former server myself if I know who our server was... I think we may have only seen him twice the whole night.
I don’t think others had the same experience we did, so it is clearly not universal, but it turned what was meant to be a relaxing Friday night into a torturous ordeal that ended in a McDonald’s parking lot at 10pm with food that was at least the proper temperature.
It was noted on our reservation that a birthday was being celebrated..but no mention was made to me
Disappointing. Waiter was not attentive. Trying to keep neighborhood businesses from closing...
Went there for the impossible burger. I think it would be better without the roasted tomatoes and with regular tomatoes. The service was pretty good. Missed my original order of a side vegetable, but got it out quickly. Other than that the service was fine.
NYAJ Kentlands is usually spot-on. However, our recent dinner was hampered by poor service throughout the evening. From waiting for initial recognition and drink order, incorrect delivery of orders, lack of ongoing attention to finally waiting for someone to take our money requiring me to seek assistance. Not up to par. Do better, NYAJ.
NYAJ's has gone downhill. This was out first time back in a year and everything was bad. Service was terrible, seating area was dirty, the bathrooms were gross and the food was blah. We used to come before covid once a month and really enjoyed it. I don't know what happened, the restaurant was nearly empty and all the staff seemed very overwhelmed.
On patio... great service, good food, nice place. I like the joint!
We used to go to not your average joes frequently pre pandemic and always enjoyed. But unfortunately this time the food was awful, the burger was just ok but the turkey sandwich I ordered was terrible , poor quality ingredients and I could tell it had been pre-made and in a refrigerator before it was served to me. If I had bought from a vending machine in a train station it probably would have been better. On the plus side , the French fries were very good. I will try the restaurant again sometime and I hope in the duration they get their act together
Excellent food, beautiful presentation, excellent service from all. For my wife and me it's expensive, especially the wine, but we have accepted that, although it limits our visits. We appreciate the performance of all of your staff, especially with all the difficulties of the virus demands, and thank you for staying open through it all.
We love it there and they have an awesome patio that is perfect for outdoor seating! Food is great!
It was a nice experience. Havent been to a restaurant (outside only) since nov. i felt they were really going above and beyond to keep everyone safe.
Our service and food was fantastic!
We ordered two appetizers - ahi tuna wontons and the egg rolls. Won tons were great but the egg rolls we beyond salty. Our original server didn't tell us that they were closing within an hour of our arrival so we rushed to place an order before the kitchen closed. Two of us ordered the steak - which sits on a bed of mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. Potatoes tasted dry and old, there was hardly any spinach and the combo of the pickled onions and balsamic glaze just put the entrée over the top and not in a good way. My husband ordered the salmon which was about $25 - it was a child size piece of salmon and a large amount of rice and broccoli. Flavor was good but not a good value. My mom ordered the veggie burger which was decent but not as good as times past. While we were eating out server left. So we then sat waiting for someone to tell them our steak meals were no good. Eventually a very nice young man came to assist and grabbed the manager on site. Both gentleman were wonderful and tried to resolve our issue with $15 off and a free pizza. Unfortunate that now the last 3 visits have been bad.
Very nice staff and food was awesome!!!!!!!!
This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in along time. I took my brother here to celebrate his birthday, we had reservations. We waited 20 min for a server to come even take our drink order. The host noticed us waiting so long and offered to bring us drinks. After another 20 minutes he finally came back to take our food order. We ordered appetizers and meals for 4 people. Another 20 min and all of the food came out at once. He did not come back for refills. My salad had no dressing, my sister's chicken was undercooked, my brothers burger was rare, and the fries were cold- the waiter avoided our table. Finally the manager came and asked us when we were done with our food if we wanted more drinks. It was not busy, there were maybe only 4 other families in restaurant. We originally came to try the famous "peanut butter" thing and we ended up spending 200$ on bad food and horrible service. This place was recommended to us by friends who raved about it, but we had a bad experience.
Food was good. Table was on an angle so glasses rolled into the floor. Waiter seemed very lethargic. Not rude but lacked any kind of enthusiasm.
The food is very average here. I got the chicken and shrimp rice bowl for lunch, the chicken was over cooked and not much flavor. The service is very good and the outdoor patio is a plus.
