What a wonderful afternoon tea my sister and I had, we turned up quite early and they saw to us straight away with drinks. It was my sisters birthday and they made it very special for her, with a free glass of Prosecco and decorated her plate with happy birthday messages! Our waiters were two lovely young guys who were very helpful and attentive, food was amazing, would definitely recommend!!
Food was fantastic, bar staff and service was second to none... thanks to Hilary, Tia and diago 👍
We went for afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday and the service was amazing. Even brought out the cakes with a candle and happy birthday written on the plate. Cakes were amazing too and all homemade. Will be going again.
Great quality food (sunday lunch) at a reasonable price
Food wasn't the best, service was okay but good for a casual get to together with friends.
We had a table for 4 booked at 3pm for Sunday lunch. At 2.30 I got a phone call to say that the restaurant had already run out of beef, they’d been very busy apparently. When we arrived we were the only people there !!
We ordered a sharing platter for our starter which was on the menu as baked Camembert, pitta etc, what we actually got was a platter with whitebait, halloumi etc.
The menu was already quite limited , more so without the beef.
We ordered 2 chicken breast and 2 sea trout. We were then told there was only 1 sea trout left. My daughter who’s birthday it was, ended up with her 3rd choice meal.
When my husbands sea trout arrived it was served with a Yorkshire pudding and a jug of gravy. Bizarre!
Throughout there was not one sign of apology or embarrassment at this poor service.
The food itself was actually of a good standard, it’s just a pity we didn’t get any of the food we wanted.
Lovely food very nice staff nice surroundings and wine was good too
We had the afternoon tea. All of it was so tasty, especially the savouries! Two lovely pots of tea aswell! Very filling and good value for money! Service was also very good! Would definitely recommend especially for afternoon tea!
I would not even give this place 1 star but had to rate it to be able to make a review!
Brought a drink and ordered food. Later told there was burgers so ordered another the beef. Then later advised there was no beef either. So nothing all three of us wanted. I was totally annoyed and said we would not have purchased a drink had we been advised there was nothing left on the menu we wanted. Waitress got her manager and she tried to explain they do have burgers but no beef as last two go sold downstairs. She would not refund us the money for our drinks so we left. I was feeling furious and went elsewhere.
I'd booked the table to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
The restaurant was closed and they only had bar food available. There was no indication that this would be the case when we made our booking.
first time of eating here - the front of house was exceptional and knowledgeable
Service great, good atmosphere. Steak was a bit over cooked but flavour and rest of meal made up for it. Would definitely recommend
A stylish, modern gastro-pub with attentive and skilled bar staff, with a good selection of gins and wines. The restaurant is large but in cosy sections upstairs, great service and excellent food. I had the roast beef as part of the Mother's Day menu which was a generous portion and cooked to perfection. 2 courses at just under £20, good value.
Table of 3, starters took 1 hour to arrive followed by another 40 minutes for main course which arrived cold. However server did remove a round of drinks off the bill and also gave desserts free of charge.
Great food. Staff were friendly and attentive as always . Great place to eat. Great window seat looking out.
Great food and service for a quick bite before the cinema.
Due to the time we ate as the only diners it’s not fair to comment negatively to the atmosphere. Very attentive staff and reasonable prices.
Great service, food and drink. Smart place to eat and drink!
Lovely, tasty food, well presented etc, although a very limited choice menu.
Really enjoyed our trip to the Old House. The place itself is immaculate, it has a good menu and the food my wife and I had was excellently presented and tasted wonderful. Service was superb too, a chap called Rhys looked after us impeccably, very attentive yet not at all intrusive. Everyone was friendly and extremely professional. Highly recommended.
Very satisfactory although desert portions very small.
Started with a drink downstairs in the bar then headed upstairs to the restaurant for our meal. Both the bar and restaurant staff were very warm and greeted us nicely. During our meal Rhys and his crew looked after us for all our needs. We will definitely return again soon.
Great food and atmosphere. Reece the waiter was fantastic.
Really good food, however it wasn’t made clear that because we were early we were in between menus. It was like the kitchen was closed but it wasn’t. Bit confusing. Think we were the only diners up there at the time we went. Staff were very accommodating though.
We went as a family of three for Sunday lunch. We were pleasantly surprise to find it was not overcrowded and looked very clean. The staff were very polite and attentive and although the menu is a little limited, I have to say that the roast beef was fabulous. My son had the double beef burger with bacon which he said was one of the best burgers he had eaten in a while. All in all a very pleasant and relaxing experience.
Great food and friendly service. Rhys and George were very helpful and could not do enough to ensure we had a great meal.
An afternoon tea surprise for my 90 year-old mother in-law. Great food, exceptional service. Staff went out their way to ensure we had everything we needed including a chair with arms moved next to the woodburner. Could not of asked for better service - thank you.
The waitress we had made our experience incredible. Thank you so much. She did everything she could to fit our needs.
Delicious as always...boiling hot upstairs, as always!
Took the family for after noon tea
The staff were brilliant very attentive nothing was too much
The coffee was in drinkable
The sandwichs were ok nothing special bit bland
The cheese tart & chicken puff were wonderful very flavoursome
All the little cakes were very nice unfortunately the scones were a little dry
Tried it but not one of my top ten
A very pleasant surprise, having not visited the Old House since its transformation. My husband and I really enjoyed the food, surroundings and service in the upstairs restaurant. We will definitely be returning.
Really enjoyed a lush steak meal here, great wine selection as well! Meal was cooked to how we had asked and as a massive carnivore I love my steak done a specific way and the chef nailed it! Only thing lacking was atmosphere as it was virtually empty, probably something to do with it being a Wednesday though so will have to try it another day! Definitely going back here for another meal and would like to try the cocktails too!
I liked the food but didn't have what was on the website menu so I was disappointed. Also no choice of chips you only had thick ones which were like powder, I was hoping for a choice like sweet potato or thin
Fab day having afternoon tea. Second trip and this time I took my mum to guarantee a good time. Good food, great service, especially from Pete :)
Will be back
First time at the Old House, nice setting and cosy. Simple menu so you could be disappointed if you wanted a lot of choice, with portions not for the big eaters. We had a issue with one of the meals, which was disappointing as we have read goods things before we booked.
Lovely building very eye catching, restaurant was small but quaint. Service was fine food was good standard and i will be definitely returning again to this establishment.
As a party of 4 we booked a Sunday lunch at the Old House at Home. The service, food and value for money exceeded our expectations and would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to lunch. I expect to attend the Old House at Home in the future to sample their evening menu.
didnt rate the afternoon tea. thought it was overpriced, i dont drink tea but brought my mum in law for a treat couldnt believe they changed me xtra for a glass of lemonade when i paid £33 for the afternoon tea which probably cost £10 to make. other places iv been to give u a choice of tea or soft drink. did a groupon offr not so long ago where it was £17 for 2 and u got double the amount of stuff and alot more choice wouldnt go again
Great meal - lovely Sunday roast and dessert. Good service - smart cosy restaurant, nice ambience. Only niggle that the background music was a little too loud and one of the items on the dessert menu was not available, even though it had not been taken off.
Great food and excellent service, regularly eat and drink at The old house and am never disappointed
Was looking for a quiet area for a business conversation . They gave me a great table but more than that, the service was outstanding. Attentive without being overbearing. The food was timely and tasty. Have been there before ( not for business). And will be there again.
