Old House Pub & Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Started with a drink downstairs in the bar then headed upstairs to the restaurant for our meal. Both the bar and restaurant staff were very warm and greeted us nicely. During our meal Rhys and his crew looked after us for all our needs. We will definitely return again soon.
An afternoon tea surprise for my 90 year-old mother in-law. Great food, exceptional service. Staff went out their way to ensure we had everything we needed including a chair with arms moved next to the woodburner. Could not of asked for better service - thank you.
Great meal - lovely Sunday roast and dessert. Good service - smart cosy restaurant, nice ambience. Only niggle that the background music was a little too loud and one of the items on the dessert menu was not available, even though it had not been taken off.
Was looking for a quiet area for a business conversation . They gave me a great table but more than that, the service was outstanding. Attentive without being overbearing. The food was timely and tasty. Have been there before ( not for business). And will be there again.
We had a Sunday roast. There was a mountain of well cooked beef and the vegetables and other accompaniments were all very tasty. WE will be back for more.
The only downside was the restaurant area upstairs was very hot. fortunately the waiter put us near a window so it was not too much of a problem.
We tend to go to out of town pub restaurants for a meal, for a change of scenery. I found The Old House on Google, looking for somewhere different, checked the menu on their website and reviews on Trip Advisor and none of them let me down! The food was divine, with a rather good bottle of Australian Cab Sauv, the service was friendly and spot on and the atmosphere was great - maybe a little loud on a Saturday evening for my personal taste but I am quite old! We even got a personal apology from the chef as we left in case we'd overheard him swearing!! (The kitchen is open onto the dining room.) You want to know about the food too? We both had the Brixham Crab starter - a lovely delicate flavour which wasn't overpowered by the dressing. He had the lamb chops which were so tender and the feta, yogurt and tomato was an amazing combination! Score 10 for the chips too. My poussin was melt-in-the- mouth with a lovely fresh lemon thyme dressing and loads of asparagus and chef produced yummy crushed potatoes with creme fraiche and chives to go with it as I didn't fancy the choice on the menu. My hero!
All in all a great experience and we will go back, probably on a weekday.
We went for lunch at The Old House on Sunday. The food was lovely, the children's menu was small but great. The service was fabulous and everyone was really welcoming. I will certainly be returning as it was a really great experience that my parents really enjoyed.
What a change from the Old House I remember... Beautifully refurbished and with a whole new vibe. We had afternoon tea having seen it advertised on FB. Contemporary rather than traditional. Sandwiches fresh with great fillings. Loved the vegetable crisps. Sweet treats were wonderful, a definite leaning towards chocolate. To make it perfect I would have added some sponge cake but would be to enhance what was a wonderful plate of goodies. All beautifully presented and left me happy and content and not over full. We were the only people dining upstairs which only tells me not enough people know about this delightful place to 'afternoon tea'. Go check it out! I will return to check out the rest of the menu (and I live 10 miles away).
Really lovely little eatery above a pub.
Had heard great things about the food, and our party of four thought it was of a good standard.
All the starters were fantastic, notably the scallops were cooked to perfection. The mains we had ; Duck was a bit fatty, sea bass was cooked well (but the accompanying vegetables were a tad bland), the Pork belly was delicious.
Our waitress (dark curly hair), was fantastic, you'd never know it was only her first night.
All in all I would recommend this place, the ambience is fabulous, the food is good, and the service excellent.
My boyfriend and I went here for a meal on a saturday night. The food was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only problem was that of my boyfriend's, that you only buy beer by the bottle which is rather costly. Other than that everything was great!
We went as a family of three for Sunday lunch. We were pleasantly surprise to find it was not overcrowded and looked very clean. The staff were very polite and attentive and although the menu is a little limited, I have to say that the roast beef was fabulous. My son had the double beef burger with bacon which he said was one of the best burgers he had eaten in a while. All in all a very pleasant and relaxing experience.
Really enjoyed a lush steak meal here, great wine selection as well! Meal was cooked to how we had asked and as a massive carnivore I love my steak done a specific way and the chef nailed it! Only thing lacking was atmosphere as it was virtually empty, probably something to do with it being a Wednesday though so will have to try it another day! Definitely going back here for another meal and would like to try the cocktails too!
As a party of 4 we booked a Sunday lunch at the Old House at Home. The service, food and value for money exceeded our expectations and would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to lunch. I expect to attend the Old House at Home in the future to sample their evening menu.
The Old Pub House was a very nice pub with lots of seating and a lovely outdoor area. The restaurant area was closed so I ate in the pub area. The salmon carpaccio starter was excellent and prepared perfectly. The salmon was fresh and the arugula and capers a lovely contrast. I then had a Caesar salad and some chicken wings and both were nicely done. The chicken wings had a spicy BBQ type sauce. Service was also very good.
What a surprise to find this place.split into downstairs bar and upstairs resturant.a friendly barman greeted us in the bar and directed us upstairs.the decor is quite dark but once seated and able to watch the staff cooking it was an excellant Sunday lunch even though it was Fathers a Day.my husband and granddaughter both had the roast which looked very appetising and as a vegetarian the staff kindly adapted the vegetarian choice for me . The lemon possett was the best I have tasted. Overall a relaxing and excellant lunch.
