Old Lyme Inn
Since its opening in April 2012, the restaurant has quickly become a celebrated meeting place for visitors and locals alike. Hailed by critics and customers, our chefs work diligently to offer dishes that run the gamut from traditional selections to unique options that will challenge the way you think about food.
The lunch and dinner menu, as well as the wine and cocktail list, change seasonally and employ locally grown and deliciously fresh produce, meat, and seafood; as well as farm-roasted coffee and homemade ice cream.
Friday/Saturday: music in the lobby or check our website for exciting entertainment at our newly opened jazz club, theSideDoor.
This is a step back in time, the staff are so kind! We enjoyed the food the ambience. Would definitely recommend this to anyone we went for the brunch. Can’t wait to go again
Our party of 4 enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Old Lyme Inn. We sat outside at a patio table on a beautiful warm day. Our server was helpful and attentive even though we were the only diners outside! The tempura vegetable appetizer was outstanding and huge, it could serve as a meal! The deviled eggs were delicious, very creamy. I shared the pulled pork sandwich and the only reason I wouldn’t give it 5 stars is because on the menu it said it was served on buttermilk biscuits. However as our waitress let us know, it is now served on a brioche roll. It was good, but we would have preferred the biscuits. The fried oyster po’boy was tasty and the shrimp cocktail was fresh and bright. We spent almost two hours enjoying the food, the company and the beautiful day!!
We apologize about the biscuit/brioche exchange but are pleased your enjoyed your meal! We are switching over to our Fall menu and hope you will come back to try our new offerings.
Nothing spectacular. A reasonable place for a meal.
Always a pleasant experience
Wonderful meal and great service. The chef and bartenders are very talented
Excellent dinner, very well served and a quiet, romantic atmosphere.
Sat outside near the real fire. Service couldn’t have been better and the food was great. Can’t wait to return.
We love the Old Lyne Inn but I have commented before that it is difficult for my husband, who has celiac, to get have a complete meal there. This visit he ordered the cordon bleu burger on a gluten free roll, since other options were not gluten free. You were out of gluten free rolls - come on, buy some at Big Y and keep them in the freezer.
I have a pet peeve when a greeter, service desk person does not engage a customer immediately, especially when they are not on the phone or otherwise preoccupied. That is their job. The norm seems to be to stare down at their computer screen and then look up after a period of time with a rather annoyed look. Such was the case here. Time for some customer service training, re-training.
The band that was supposed to be playing wasn’t there. My husband got the lamb. It was supposed to be a porterhouse. Instead, it was lamb chops. Also, it didn’t come with the yogurt sauce as described on the menu. The swordfish was very tasty but was a small portion. Other than that, the food was very good and it was nice to sit outside!
Very pleasant; ate at table in bar area. Nice aspect is the ability to eat outdoors-- we had after-dinner coffee and dessert outside, with an excellent guitar player providing music in the background.
Went for lunch. Needed to use lift to second floor which was a fun experience. Hostess/server was awesome and we made some special requests. Haven't been in years due to bad reputation on food, but they have had a new chef for years now and the food was great! Oyster Po-Boy could've used a few more oysters, but it surprisingly came with a nice sized salad. Highly recommend rhubarb/brie flatbread, risotto, and reuben. Fries were perfect! Formal dining room had lots of light and was quiet. Will definitely visit more often now!
Thank you so much for 5 Star review. We hope to see you frequently and we never disappoint! We aim to please!
A lovely lunch listening to a gorgeous live jazz! Beautiful spot with friendly waiters and delicious cocktails!
Thank you, Michelle for the 5-star review! The jazz trio also plays rain or shine on Thursday night and if you have never experienced the SideDoor Jazz Club, you might want to check it out.
Not enough staff, or poor training. Won’t go back until summer is over.
Thank you for your comment. I apologize for whatever transpired during your visit. In reviewing the evening, I believe that we were a bit under-staffed. It would be helpful in the future if you spoke to a manager regarding your concerns so that we can work to improve any service deficiencies . I hope you will try us again before the fall. Thank you.
It is such a beautiful place with excellent food! Loved the Sunday Brunch. We were a little too early for the music, but next time we plan on coming a little later! It is such a treat to have this beautiful place so close to where we live! I highly recommend the Old Lyme Inn. It is a nice romantic place for any special occasion too!
Thank you for your lovely review. In case you can't make it to brunch we have blues music on the patio Wednesday night and the Pennies (same band as Sunday brunch) play on Thursday night rain or shine. AND for a really special night we have shows at the SideDoor every Friday and Saturday night.
just what we needed to reunite w/a long lost cousin.
Great food and friendly people.
Thanks, Alex for the 5-Star review. Great guests make for a fun dining experience for all!
Love this place , always consistent with food and have the best staff for recommendations.
Thank you for the 5-Star review. Hope to see you again!
Lovely place - asparagus soup was great. Other food was just ok. Was very noisy and so busy that it was challenging for staff. Very friendly staff.
Terrible service. The staff all need to be trained - few refreshes of water, drinks forgotten, no replenishment of service ware for brunch buffet - required repeated requests. Also hostess wears her stress on her face and shares it with you in huffs and excuses making it your burden to bear with her. Not a sense of ease or welcome in the place. Feels like tired, old wait staff (not in age) that if they’re not careful will reflect a tired old place. Food headed in the same direction. Quality was basic to poor.
Dear Peonygal, Thank you for your comments. We appreciate hearing your perspective and will do our best to correct the deficiencies you mentioned in your review. Thank you, Chris
Despite their website, they only offered Sunday brunch for Easter at 12:45. Ok with that and moved on. Was not felt welcome by receptionist saying we’ll try to find and open table despite being right on time. Proceeded to be seated in an empty dining room in one of the worst located seat ( doors and foot traffic on all sides). Requested a seat change and was told all other tables were reserved. Many of these were not occupied for at least 45 minutes. This has happened previous times when using open table. Waitress was great and tried to make us comfortable and happy. All items at the buffet were cold and pretty well picked over. Upon trying a second time 20 minutes later we found somewhat the same situation. When we returned to our table we found that our chairs had been removed and used by another waitress at another table. Our table had been loaded with dirty dishes in the time it took to visit the buffet. Long story short. This place is not ready for prime time. It is truly too bad since this place
We apologize for your disappointing experience. We have met with the staff regarding your review have and confidence that corrections will be made. We sincerely hope that you will give us another chance. OpenTable can be problematic when diners do not cancel their reservations or when diners leave earlier than time allotted. We are instituting procedures to alleviate the cancellation problem. Please contact directly if you would like to discuss your experience further. Thank you, Chris
Great place for lunch before the art museums and galleries across the street. Fries were crispy and hot, as is so often not the case, while burger, fish tacos and duck confit flatbread were all first rate. Knowledgeable proprietor/wine steward/barkeep had excellent suggestions and samples on wine. Period charm in a venerable setting.
Wonderful food, great ambience, and not loud. The restaurant has recently become one of our favorites not only because of the previous comment, but also because the staff is very welcoming and efficient
Food was delicious and atmosphere is always lovely. Our neighbors joined us for the first time and also thought it was a lovely place with excellent food. Both my husband and one of my neighbors have cilliac so knowing what is gluten free is always helpful. The only negative was the waiter who looked a bit messy and kept giving us the wrong check. He did get it right by the third check.
Hi Gail, thank you for the informative review. We are appreciative of you bringing your neighbors for a nice dinner. It was brought to our attention the confusion of the wrong check. I can assure you that will not happen again as he is no longer employed here. See you soon, Karin
Food was excellent, staff was knowledgeable and polite. A hidden gem in CT. Definitely will go back!
Thank you for the perfect review. See you soon
Beautiful atmosphere, delicious Brunch selections and relaxing live Jazz!
Thank you for the perfect 5 star review. We also offer a chef select menu available Tuesday thru Thursday 11-9. All items are $15 and under. We also have live jazz on Thursday evenings. See you again soon Karin.
Susan and I had never been to the Old Lyme. We stayed in room 5, saw Patricia Barber (The Side Door), and ate brunch the following morning. Ken and his staff were extraordinary! We will definitely be back. . .Thank You all!!
John Thank you for taking the time to write a wonderful informative review. We are so glad that you were able to stay overnight attend a great jazz show at the Side Door and join us for our Jazzy brunch Sunday morning. See you soon Karin
This place should be more crowded. I don’t understand it. The food is incredible. I had grilled salmon on their kale salad. Delicious.
Thank You for the perfect 5 star review. See you soon, Karin
Had a reservation at 11:30 for lunch and we were the only ones there at first. It was a good thing because there was one waitress for the room and as it filled up the service got slower and the noise level increased. Very pretty place and would like to return to try eating outside in the warm weather. Across the street from an art museum that is very popular, will try to return and do both.
Thank you for taking the time time to send a review. We also offer dining in our Peterson room which tends to be more quiet. You can request to dine with us in the Peterson room in the future. See you soon.
The Old Lyme Inn is always good, but this Friday was particularly good. The night's special was a herb grilled Salmon over Jambalaya, and it was outstanding. Cooked just perfectly, excellent. Service and ambiance was as always great.
Thank you for the great informative 5 star review. See you soon Karin
Excellent food. Bar area was noisy, but dining room was perfect. Service was very good, but would have been excellent if there had been one more waiter or maybe a little bit of extra help. Great waiter, not a complaint there. Menu is pricey/upscale.
Thank you for the great review. Yes the bar area tends to be noisy especially on the weekends. We have decided to add extra staff starting this weekend. Friday and Saturday nights are peak busy times please consider visiting again soon and we also have live Jazz in the foyer on Thursday evenings from 6:00-9:00 with our chef selects menu offered at dinner hours priced at 15 dollars and under, you can call for our weekly items offered. See you soon Karin
The OL Inn is becoming one of my favorites. Great food and service.....and then head to the Side Door Jazz Cafe for an up close and personal jazz experience.
Wonderful food and service
Mary Thank you for the perfect review. The staff and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Karin
A beautiful lunch! We had 4 people in our party, 2 sets of sisters. One set each had the soup and half a sandwich. They thoroughly enjoyed the thick, creamy split pea soup which had lots of flavor and great body. They shared a burger, cooked just beyond medium, as they requested. My sister had the beef crostini, beautifully presented and generously laden with carmelized onions, house made sauce, and greens. I chose the portobello, a grilled mushroom with a butternut squash stuffing laced with thyme dressing. The dining room was lovely, just the right amount of busy, and our server was solicitous but never hovering. A happy experience, start to finish, I highly recommend The Old Lyme Inn and I am looking forward to a return trip.
We are so happy you enjoyed your Valentines luncheon. Thank you for the informative review, see you again soon Karin.
Everything at the Inn was so nice. The restaurant's food and martini was great! Very good professional service too!
Rosanne we are glad you enjoyed your meal at the Old Lyme Inn. Thank you for the great review. See you again soon Karin
Wow what a fabulous place!! A charming and cozy dining experience. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. The delightful sounds of the jazz band made our senses come alive!! The music was fabulous, the wine selection delightful and the meal superb!! We started with the hot & delicious split pea with ham soup & delicious beet salad- both excellent. Followed by perfectly seared sea scallops on a bed of expertly prepared veggie risotto- not too creamy, not mushy just delicious. My husband enjoyed the Maine lobster ravioli. As a rule we only enjoy Maine lobster in Maine, but this was a delicious medley of flavors. For desert we shared moist & delicious blood orange pound cake with homemade vanilla ice cream. The portions were generous, but not overly while the flavors were divine. The whole time we were treated to the most wonderful jazz group!! Fun, frivolous and very talented. The owner greeted everyone at their table in between sets and our waitress Lois was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is the very best way to enjoy a cold Thursday evening in New England!!
Thank you for the great detailed review. It is very nice to receive such wonderful comments in regards to the food, music and staff. I will be sure to share your kind words with our team. We all look forward to seeing you again soon. Sincerely Karin and Staff of the Old Lyme inn.
We were seated in a beautiful, small, elegant room with a fire place. The noise level was low, it was easy to have a normal conversation with my partner. The food was delicious. The service was helpful and pleasant, without being overbearing. Some gluten free options were labeled on the menu and other dishes could be prepared gluten free.
We came here because we were going to the jazz club next door. I originally choose a nearby Italian restaurant but it was all booked, so we ended up here. Next time, this will be my first choice
Marc, Thank You for the great informative review. See you again soon, Karin
Our server was very pleasant, efficient and was quick to offer suggestions, food was outstanding!! I had the loin of lamb and it was so good I could have gone back the next night and ordered it again. My husband had one of the specials that evening and he was very pleased as well.
Diane what a great review. Thank you for your comments see you soon Karin
Had a delicious dinner served by an engaging server.
