Old Lyme Inn
Since its opening in April 2012, the restaurant has quickly become a celebrated meeting place for visitors and locals alike. Hailed by critics and customers, our chefs work diligently to offer dishes that run the gamut from traditional selections to unique options that will challenge the way you think about food.
The lunch and dinner menu, as well as the wine and cocktail list, change seasonally and employ locally grown and deliciously fresh produce, meat, and seafood; as well as farm-roasted coffee and homemade ice cream.
Friday/Saturday: music in the lobby or check our website for exciting entertainment at our newly opened jazz club, theSideDoor.
We were met on entry by a pleasant hostess who confirmed our reservation and took us to a quiet table for two near the fireplace. I had some confusion regarding a gift certificate and this was quickly resolved. Our server brought us drinks, read the specials and gave us time to settle in. Our entres were excellent. I enjoyed the pork loin, which was served with a variety of roasted vegetables. My wife enjoyed the French onion soup.
While waiting for the Side Door Cafe to open we were invited to wait in the library. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Fabulous. Best waitress ever. Excellent food
Jazzy Brunch was absolutely fabulous! Our server, Laura, was just the best. Music was terrific and fireplace was lovely on a cold New England morning.
The food, including dessert was amazing. This was my second time here. The waitress was so pleasant and efficient. The inn and restaurant are classic New England. Beautiful art in dining and reception area.
Delicious lunch, Patty melt with french fries and the Cuban Pork roast with fries. Enjoyed the Sriracha deviled eggs as an appetizer. A very yummy meal. Presentation was excellent.
Very nice time. Staff very polite and attentive. Very busy due to Valentines Day and a jazz Band playing . Waited about 45 minutes past our reservation time slot. Still a very pleasant evening.
What a wonderful experience! And the food was awesome. We don’t normally go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day, but decided to have a special night this year. They were very busy for the holiday, but made sure that our experience was top notch. We were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne while we waited for our table to be ready. The menu had wonderful choices. He had the Caesar salad and I had the house. He had the lobster corn chowder, which was so delicious! I had the fried mushroom ravioli - awesome! Then we both had the filet mignon, which was cooked to perfection. Our server was very friendly and helpful, as was everyone else. Such a special night! Will definitely go back again.
Our reservation on Valentine's Day was 6:45 pm, we were seated just before seven, our drink and dining order taken, we talked and waited and waited and waited, as we were attending the show downstairs we became concerned by 8p not having been visited by our waiter for the past hour, no appetizer no salads??? I got up to inquire at the reservation desk and was told not to worry they hold the show, my concern was one we were hungry and salads and appetizers take over an hour??? Our salads arrive about 10 after 8 and no appetizers as the kitchen was ????? so no appetizers at all and salads pear dressing etc took over an hour to make???? Our entrees arrive w/ more apology about 10 minutes later, so we ate hurriedly to get downstairs by and had to skip desserts, what a masterful job of poor kitchen management.
While we might be willing to excuse due to the special Valentine's Day occasion, this was possibly the worst service we have ever had - beyond slow...many reminders of previous requests...and service and food item mistakes at every course.
I would return...but I'm in no rush.
We absolutely loved our experience at the Old Lyme Inn. We were greeted with a glass of Champagne and it got even better from there! Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful service, outstanding food. We will be returning soon!
For our third visit in the past month, again we sat in the room with the fireplace, which is cozy and inviting. Service is prompt, courteous. Onion soup is delicious. Their salads are innovative, always fresh, with healthy, tasty ingredients. Entrees are delectable and portions are generous but not excessive, always with the correct complement of veggie or starch. Desserts are irresistible, but we managed to avoid them! What we like best about their food: it is never overly spiced or salted, yet never bland; the flavors of the ingredients are allowed to speak for themselves. We love this place! Especially during the week when the jazz quartet is playing, it couldn't be more enjoyable.
The Lovely Live Jazz Combo & Great food. Wonderful ambiance
We had a great time at the Old Lyme Inn. The entre (fillet) and salad (Caesar) we’re perfect. However, The dessert (bunt cake) was not on par with the other food. We will definitely be back again.
Our evening exceeded our expectations. Wonderful appetizers, Our server was wonderful, and the atmosphere by the fire place made for a perfect evening.
Depends on if they return my email. Their chef selects menu on line for Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday nights special for $15 did not mention that it is not available on nights there is music in their jazz club.
I decided to take my boyfriend out to dinner and being on a tight budget thought it would be perfect. My $30 plus tip night turned into a $90 plus tip night.
Was not happy with that but we needed to eat because we were attending the show in their jazz club right after. i emailed them asking if they would make things right. I have not heard back.
Server was great, food quick and delisous. Bartender Michael great as well.
Atmosphere was great, fun and friendly. A teeny bit loud, but not bad - and really nice to have live music. Service was wonderful, and food was really great!! Will definitely go back again.
New Years Eve
Very nice evening once we moved to the dining room on the right. The bar area was very loud; the service staff was able to move us to the quieter room where we could talk and hear the piano. Food was delicious and Christina was excellent as was the young man who provided water and other service.
Lovely evening... we will be back.
Great food, excellent drinks, attentive service. We visit with our 2 granddaughters at least twice a year, and enjoy ourselves each time.
My wife and thought the atmosphere and food were outstanding. We look forward to our next visit
Lovely old world In atmosphere. Warm welcome on all levels from drinks to dessert.
What a delightful place! Excellent birthday lunch with a friend. Delicious food and attentive staff. We will be back!
Really have thoroughly enjoyed our two times having dinner at the old Lyme inn. Ken's band is fantastic and it's so nice to see him again.we will be back soon hopefully on a Sunday
This is a step back in time, the staff are so kind! We enjoyed the food the ambience. Would definitely recommend this to anyone we went for the brunch. Can’t wait to go again
Our party of 4 enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Old Lyme Inn. We sat outside at a patio table on a beautiful warm day. Our server was helpful and attentive even though we were the only diners outside! The tempura vegetable appetizer was outstanding and huge, it could serve as a meal! The deviled eggs were delicious, very creamy. I shared the pulled pork sandwich and the only reason I wouldn’t give it 5 stars is because on the menu it said it was served on buttermilk biscuits. However as our waitress let us know, it is now served on a brioche roll. It was good, but we would have preferred the biscuits. The fried oyster po’boy was tasty and the shrimp cocktail was fresh and bright. We spent almost two hours enjoying the food, the company and the beautiful day!!
We apologize about the biscuit/brioche exchange but are pleased your enjoyed your meal! We are switching over to our Fall menu and hope you will come back to try our new offerings.
Nothing spectacular. A reasonable place for a meal.
Always a pleasant experience
Wonderful meal and great service. The chef and bartenders are very talented
Excellent dinner, very well served and a quiet, romantic atmosphere.
Sat outside near the real fire. Service couldn’t have been better and the food was great. Can’t wait to return.
We love the Old Lyne Inn but I have commented before that it is difficult for my husband, who has celiac, to get have a complete meal there. This visit he ordered the cordon bleu burger on a gluten free roll, since other options were not gluten free. You were out of gluten free rolls - come on, buy some at Big Y and keep them in the freezer.
I have a pet peeve when a greeter, service desk person does not engage a customer immediately, especially when they are not on the phone or otherwise preoccupied. That is their job. The norm seems to be to stare down at their computer screen and then look up after a period of time with a rather annoyed look. Such was the case here. Time for some customer service training, re-training.
The band that was supposed to be playing wasn’t there. My husband got the lamb. It was supposed to be a porterhouse. Instead, it was lamb chops. Also, it didn’t come with the yogurt sauce as described on the menu. The swordfish was very tasty but was a small portion. Other than that, the food was very good and it was nice to sit outside!
Very pleasant; ate at table in bar area. Nice aspect is the ability to eat outdoors-- we had after-dinner coffee and dessert outside, with an excellent guitar player providing music in the background.
Went for lunch. Needed to use lift to second floor which was a fun experience. Hostess/server was awesome and we made some special requests. Haven't been in years due to bad reputation on food, but they have had a new chef for years now and the food was great! Oyster Po-Boy could've used a few more oysters, but it surprisingly came with a nice sized salad. Highly recommend rhubarb/brie flatbread, risotto, and reuben. Fries were perfect! Formal dining room had lots of light and was quiet. Will definitely visit more often now!
Thank you so much for 5 Star review. We hope to see you frequently and we never disappoint! We aim to please!
A lovely lunch listening to a gorgeous live jazz! Beautiful spot with friendly waiters and delicious cocktails!
Thank you, Michelle for the 5-star review! The jazz trio also plays rain or shine on Thursday night and if you have never experienced the SideDoor Jazz Club, you might want to check it out.
Not enough staff, or poor training. Won’t go back until summer is over.
Thank you for your comment. I apologize for whatever transpired during your visit. In reviewing the evening, I believe that we were a bit under-staffed. It would be helpful in the future if you spoke to a manager regarding your concerns so that we can work to improve any service deficiencies . I hope you will try us again before the fall. Thank you.
It is such a beautiful place with excellent food! Loved the Sunday Brunch. We were a little too early for the music, but next time we plan on coming a little later! It is such a treat to have this beautiful place so close to where we live! I highly recommend the Old Lyme Inn. It is a nice romantic place for any special occasion too!
Thank you for your lovely review. In case you can't make it to brunch we have blues music on the patio Wednesday night and the Pennies (same band as Sunday brunch) play on Thursday night rain or shine. AND for a really special night we have shows at the SideDoor every Friday and Saturday night.
just what we needed to reunite w/a long lost cousin.
