Olives Restaurant and Bar just off Gloucester Road in London's Kensington is an authentic Italian dining room which will delight lovers of Italian food. Full of quirky charm, Olives is at once both chic and rustic, decorated in deep blue and furnished with simple, clean lined furnishings. Mismatched chandeliers hang from the ceilings and behind the bar the fine produce you’ll soon be sampling is deliciously displayed. It's as if you're suddenly transported from South Kensington to southern Italy. Italian-born chef Davide di Croce is at the helm in the Olives kitchen where he gives traditional Italian favourites his own unique twist using top quality ingredients. The set menu, perfect for lunches and pre-theatre suppers, is full of your favourite Italian dishes and the price is ridiculously reasonable.

We were extremely disappointed with the service. We waited for more than 40 minutes to be served although we came on time ,we had asked for a portion with no pork but the dish contained a strong taste of pork . The waitress was rude about our complain and said it wasn’t possible.

We spent two wonderfull evenings at Olives. Dinner was very good and the service friendly and attentive. We booked promotion packages on the webpage, so we got good value for the money.
A good place to spend an evening in elegant but also relaxed atmosphere.

This restaraunt which is part of a hotel serves less than mediocre food at exorbitant prices. I am embarrassed that tourist staying there may assume this quality and cost is typical of London.

We will not go again - there are a number of independent restaurants and pubs in close vicinity which offer far better.

The sea food linguine is to die for. The food, staff and decor was outstanding.

We chose this venue for a friends' catch up after 12 years due to our love of Italian cuisine, its close proximity to Gloucester Road tube station - just one minute's walk! - a friend's nearby hotel and the guess that, as a hotel restaurant, it might be quieter than other local Sunday lunch venues. Positive reviews on major sites bolstered our decision. Three out of four reasons satisfied! Our starters of bruschetta served on slate - why? - were somewhat bland - no easy task, bearing in mind the potential flavours brought together. The melted cheese was so runny it was making a break for the edge of the slate. My main of lasagne, a house staple in Italian restaurants, again was somewhat bland, despite copious seasoning at the table. The ragout was totally lacking in flavour, the pasta sheets overcooked, the promising Grana Padano sauce [?] appeared to have been added as an afterthought, nestling furtively in one corner of the dish with the whole offering being very dry, displaying the appearance of a Saturday night overproduced reheat rather than anything freshly cooked on Sunday. My dining companion's choice of mixed grilled fish drew an 'It's ok!' comment, hardly a glowing endorsement. Italian desserts tend to be disappointing to we opted for coffees to round off a wholly unmemorable meal. Large gins and tonic, Bloody Marys and a glass of the house red brought the bill to just over £100. Again, we simply wanted to have a quiet venue for a catch up and Olives was certainly quiet. Including us, there were never more than 7 covers in the 90 minutes or so of our visit. The company overrode any disappointment in the venue. However, my stinted view of hotel restaurants remains undiminished.

We had a lovely time. The menu had a lot of choices, a la carte and two set menus that we could have chosen. The staff were amazing - discreet but available when needed. We were greeted on arrival and left feeling thoroughly spoilt.

Not really value for money. We arrived for a pre-theatre dinner and we were disappointed with the service which we expected to be a little quicker. Admittedly we arrived 10 minutes late - 5.20pm but had to hurry them along to be out by 7.00pm.

Actually dined at Olives on 15th not 16th March. Disappointed with the menu when compared with previous visits. Our starters were excellent but the selection of main courses were not to our liking. Side dishes, chips and roasted new potatoes, were not cooked, in our opinion, properly and the side salad ordered by my wife came with a dressing when she specifically asked for none. The restaurant was full and the staff were doing their best to maintain a good service so I did not want to complain too much and just commented generally on why we left much of the side dishes.

The Bar is a very friendly place with a good atmosphere which compliments our stay at Baileys. Will visit the restaurant again on our next visit to town and hope that the 15th was a "one-off".

Excellent location its next to the South Kensington tube in London & 5 mins walk from the V & A, Natural History Museum & Science Museum.
We had our pre theatre dinner at 6pm & the service etc was fantastic.

The food and service were both excellent.

My one issue is that the menu in no way marked out which dishes were vegetarian and which were not.

This would have the potential of being a great restaurant... but don't get fooled by the great work and effort put in the decor.

Food was a mixed bag. Venison was as tough as rock. Starters were consistently very good.

Unfortunately what marred the evening (more than the lukewarm coffee) was the service that was abysmal.

Our waiter seemed on a mission to ruin our night. He made a mess of our orders and responded rudely when this was pointed out. He seemed unaware of the italian name of the dishes (then why bother writing them or calling yourself an italian restaurant?!), and when after a very sluggish service we asked "we'd like desserts, but we are late for a show. Could you make sure they come promptly?" we got a half laughter and a "that's not likely".

Our second visit. Nice and quiet and lovely ambience. Three course lunch menu good value for money. I don't drink alcohol but the waiter made me a lovely refreshing soft drink I enjoy that wasn't on their soft drinks menu. Friendly and accommodating service.

Lovely dining room. My lamb was a little salty for my palette but my husband really enjoyed his veal.
Last time we ate at Olives we had the choice of a trio of desserts - would have loved to see them on the menu this visit- maybe next time?

Meal portions are very small (!!!) but prices are quite regular. Service was very slow and unattentive even though the place was almost empty. Besides, there were two misunderstandings. First the waiter offered my daughter some bread to go along with her soup. She naturally said yes and when the bill came the innocent bread costed 4 pounds. The second “check surprise” was related to 2 glasses of white wine that should have been part of the pre-theater menu, replacing the fizz, but were charged instead. After my complain, the restaurant did not charge the wines, but kept the bread in the bill...

The reason I picked this restaurant is because they did not have a Christmas menu listed on the website so I was surprised to find that there was one one when we arrived. My husband and I just went with the flow. The table was decorated nicely but the service was so-so. The meal was okay but not great. Some of my food arrived cold. Also, we had to inform the waiter that he had overcharged us. He then asked if we were going to add gratuity when we had been informed by the manager that that was included. Overall, unfortunately not a great experience.

The staff was courteous, but sometimes a little bit confused: the dessert arrived and the table was not cleaned yet. The food was amazing and we had a wonderful and remarkable Christmas Day there.
