Olives Restaurant and Bar
Lovely meal. Staff were very friendly and welcoming.
When we arrived we were seated and passed the menus. We asked for the pre-theatre menu, which we have eaten from before and advised that the set lunch menu and the pre-theatre menu had been stopped effective 01/01/2020. It is still showing in the website and we were only reviewing it on the train down that day. This is not acceptable and we left the restaurant to eat elsewhere. Not updating the website will cause others disappointment as well and there is no reason this couldn’t have been announced pre Christmas or when booking.
Very good, as usual
Christmasday with the family
The wait staff was very pleasant, but seemed inexperienced. It was Christmas Day, and so we were grateful to have a lovely place to have lunch, but when we arrived on time for our reservation the team was still having a meeting and so we had to wait at least 15 minutes for them to invite us to the table. An appetizer was served immediately, but it was cold when it should have been warm, and the champagne, which was also part of the set menu, was lukewarm. It was an expensive meal at 65 pounds per person - we were 5 - and so we expected a better experience. None of us thought the starter course was particularly good, but we did enjoy the main dishes. Dessert was not what we ordered, but at that point after sitting for nearly 2 1/2 hours, we just wanted to finish up and get on with our day.
Not a real Italian restaurant
Excellent experience for our first visit to Olives Restaurant at Bailey's.
The meal was excellent and beautifully presented.
The staff were charming-efficient and very welcoming.
We were staying at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel next door and will visit Olives again at a future date.
Delicious food and good value. Service was attentive and friendly but a little slow. However, I will visit again and enjoyed my visit.
The restaurant itself was quiet which gave a lack of atmosphere, however we assumed as we were going for the pre-theatre dinner that, it could just be a quiet period.
We got taken to our seat, and given a menu, considering I had booked online mentioning we were going for the pre-theatre menu we got given the a la carte menu, which meant that when I asked for the pre-theatre menu we got treated with a slight attitude and was pretty much thrown the other menu, from this point we felt misjudged and discarded.
The starter come and it was less than ideal, however we were starving so we ate it. We had noticed at this point everything was salted but put it down to the fish and the fried courgette. The mains came and we were more than disappointed. My partner ordered the grilled chicken and I the salmon. Both were dry and bland, we were not offered sauces or any additional condiments. We noticed before eating that there were no salt and pepper on the table but after trying the dish we were both pleased that there wasn't any!
My partners chicken was smothered in salt as were the chips and his salad. It was dry already but made worse by the amount of salt on the dish. Again I have to admit we were starving after a busy day and we had a show to get to so didn't make a fuss as we had very little time to do so.
I had ordered the salmon, which is at least usually accompanied by lemon if not sauce. However, it came out with a small bit of salmon and green lettuce not a full salad. Both again, were smothered in salt. I had no reprieve, the "salad" or more accurate the lettuce tasted as though it had been at the bottom of the ocean and put straight on my plate.
To top it off we were charged a large amount for water, of which we were not given the option of tap! So we were not pleased in spending £40 for a meal that neither of us enjoyed and we remained dehydrated all night, due to the copious amount of salt used in the dish!
We ordered a table in advance and it was not ready, we waited 15 min till the table was ready.
It took the waiters a long time to take our order and then it took them a lot of time to bring the food (the restaurant was not full at all).
Terrible service , cold food twice ! Avoid , avoid , avoid
The air conditioning vents near the window were blowing very cold air onto our faces, so we asked if they could block them, the waitress said "I will turn them off,but you wiil complain about it being too hot",which we weren't and we didn't.
Otherwise the service was good and the food was nice. I would go there again, but not sit near the windows.
Fantastic staff, wonderful cuisine, great service!
Unforgettable meal in Olives Restaurant. We booked quite late the day before and wanted a pre-theatre meal. Timing was just as we wanted and the food and service were excellent. Especially nice to have a decent sized pot of camomile tea to finish.
Service was poor and waiting time was very long. Food was good.
Restaurant is located inside Bailey's Hotel London in Kensington area. Very close to Gluocester Road (Piccadilly) Underground station.
Overall, food was just okay. Food taste was very average. Food presentation was bad. It was like getting food from Food Court. Food portion was small. Very pricey (easy average £45 per person - that is still without dessert or beverages).
Lovely setting. Friendly and polite staff.
Food was amazing. Would recommend but we were not aware of the service charge which we thought was too much. For the 2 of us we were charged £12.50.
Highly recommend the lasagne, best we've ever had!
The set menu looked good value for money but the portions were tiny. If it hadn’t been for my gluten free toast, I hate it when restaurants don’t provide gluten free bread which can’t be served unless toasted there is a difference between bread and toast! I would have been starving. Also at £3.50 for the two slices it was not good value for money. We were left to pour the wine ourselves which is not what I would expect in a restaurant. The chocolate desserts were delicious.
Good food at reasonable price we were in no hurry so did not mind a slower service as the restaurant became busier post 8pm.
We were staying in the hotel so booked the Restaurant as it was convenient and the menu looked reasonably priced.
To be welcomed by my first name as we walked in was superb. The food was really good, but the service mediocre. Especially when one of our guests ordered a second drink, but the waiter walked off before she had specified what she wanted. She caught him as he passed again and explained she wanted a different drink to her first. But he came back and said 'But it's already been prepared'. I pointed out his poor service and he changed it. We had to wait a long time for our third drinks after ordering them.
Then my wife paid the bill whilst I was in the loo. I only found out several hours later how extortionate it was. Having checked the food menu I can only assume the drinks bill was crazy. My wife didn't keep a copy of the bill, so I cannot check that we were even charged correctly. I would have done!!!
We will certainly be staying in the hotel again, but won't be visiting the restaurant.
The restaurant is located beautifully in South Kensington and the large windows brings in lots of natural light. The moment you walk in you feel calm and relaxed and the staff go above and beyond to keep you that way.
Starters were delicious along with the mains however the mains came to us warm instead of hot as the waiter did explain that the kitchen is a fair distance away. My gripe then was why didn’t they cover the food to preserve the heat.
Apple strudel for dessert was really nice but felt it needed a touch more sugar but other than that would go back again.
We thought the food was pretty good, but the service was poor. The restaurant had two large parties and that seemed to absorb all of the waiters. It took 25 minutes for us to get a cocktail. After that the service was OK other than the fact that we were served or waited on by seven different people. The other problem was that we were seated between the kitchen and the large parties, it became a raceway as waiters shuffled plates to and from the parties in the next room. I might go again but it would be with reservation and concern about the service.
I booked this last minute following a seminar in the area. It was quiet on arrival but got busier, really friendly staff who left us to enjoy a leisurely dinner and wine which is rare in London now, often you’re told there is a 2 hour turnaround. Helpful advice on wine to go with our food which was enjoyable, the burrata starter was particularly delicious. All in all a very nice evening, good food and great service.
My wife and I were visiting London and ate here before a show at Royal Albert Hall. Highly memorable evening, excellent service and first class food. We will come again!
Really enjoyed our visit and excellent service the food was lovely however the pre theatre menu needs more choices as by only offering 3 of which I didn’t like any of them I had to order something from the main menu which meant I missed out on the 2 course offer
This is the second time we have visited the restaurant prior to going to the Royal Albert Hall. The staff are very efficient and welcoming.
I had the ravioli as a main again again i have only marked 4 stars for the main as i feel there just isn't quite enough in the portion. The Flaour is outstanding though.
The Value for money on the Pre-Theatre package is brilliant.
Servers distracted and not very attentive or listening, for example I said tap water and they brought bottled. After food came no check up for 15 minutes. Sums up the experience.
We ate there for Christmas Day
It was lovely ambiance
However, food was really not that great considering we paid 60 pounds per person
The crab mango salad was really not flavorful
The salad was actually a bowl of soft cheese with a bit of radicchio.
The turkey was not great.
Overall not great food, atmosphere lovely, service good.
Easily accessible from the tube, nice decoration and tasty food. It was quiet and a bit chilly when we visited for lunch. Shame that the glass of wine ordered came when the meal was one bite away from being finished. That said, nice for a quick bite!
Nice atmostpher, good dishes, I will come back for sure with friends or family. I recommande this restaurant.
Went for lunch at Olive's restaurant on Saturday. Food was OK but the service was absolutely outstanding making this a very enjoyable experience.
Excellent staff and food selection.
Great food and service. Staff were friendly and attentive too. Lovely place for a relaxing lunch.
Excellent cocktails and food. Portions are a little small but it was all delicious.
Salty food - overpriced
Bill needed to be asked a few times
We were all shocked by the waiter who was clearly very upset when we asked to change an order of one of the drinks just few seconds after making the order. He didn’t listen to what we were very politely asking to swap and kept getting very irritated until we gave up.
Then I asked wether a pasta sauce had tomato because I wouldn’t eat itif there was.
He firmly replied that there was no tomato in the pasta .
The pasta arrived with a red sauce and chopped tomatoes.
Then we had to wait for 1 hour for the second courses even if the place wasn’t busy at all.
In the mean time they kept asking to the two of us who hadn’t order a second course if we would have liked coffees or desserts, regardless the other two people with us were still waiting for their dishes.
Unacceptable,it was a special occasion and I felt embarrassed to have reserved a table there for my guests.
Me and my girlfriend were looking for an Italian restaurant to book last minute for a later meal and found Olives Restaurant and Bar. The food was good and the service was on the spot and very helpful. Not a very big place, but they have good food and good service for the value if you are looking for a nice meal.
I had dinner to Olives Restaurant with 4 friends. We didn't have a great experience. The food was ok but not that great as I expected; customer service was very poor and our waiter didn't look very awake; and worst thing even If I booked with Opentable where there was 50% discount offer with 2 courses, they didn't make us any discount because apparently it wasn't accepted after 7pm. After having had the bad news they did not even try to make us happy in another way. They lost 5 customer. Absolutely overpriced.
Nice surprise. Food here was really nice. Place was very quiet but it was a week day lunch time so not entirely unsurprising. I would recommend going if you are in the area.
Natalia was our waitress, very accommodating and friendly. Every course we had was excellent, even the wine recommendation.
