One Square Restaurant
This was a perfect start to our evening - before The Tattoo. We had the tattoo menu which was excellent value - 2 courses and a glass of wine included. My husband raved about the soup - watercress with smoked fish pieces. The sea bass was perfectly cooked and all was served in a cheerful and professional manner. A great start to our Edinburgh break. Would definitely revisit should the opportunity arise.
We arrived quicker than expected and our table was ready. Service started off really well but as the restaurant was busy we had to remind staff of our outstanding order and of drinks. At the end of an excellent meal we had to wait sometime and request twice to pay our bill. This resulted is in having to rush to get to the Castle in time for the Tattoo.
friendly helpful staff -not only in respect of meal service. Good atmosphere .
Excellent service! Had the special tattoo offer, food great but the menu choice limited for the offer.
Overall very good
We very much enjoyed the setting & location, and ate from the REMT menu. The food was nice, although not spectacular, but we were unpleasantly surprised to have to pay £7.10 plus 10% service charge for two cups of Americano coffee.
Very friendly reliable staff . Food right up our street wine was also good . Retired to the bar for a pint and a gin & bitter lemon . Nice ambient atmosphere not to crowded . In all a very pleasant meal & experience . Fully reccomended nice one
Good service fine food good setting staff were friendly but business like
Great welcome, good table location, menu explained, prompt wine service and it was really tasty, well presented and enjoyable dishes. Really good value for money and pleased to have had it recommended to me.
Very friendly staff and good food and wine. The hotel was very clean as were the facilities. Excellent value for money.
We booked the Tattoo menu, and although it was limited it covered tastes that should meet everyone's requirements. The service was the highlight of the experience. Service was geared up for Royal Military Tattoo attendees who were seeking a pre- show meal. The food was well presented and very tasty. The price for 2 courses and a drink was very good value.
Apart from getting one main course wrong and a large hair in the ice cream it was a fine lunch. Lots of apologies and free fizz (despite the organiser being teetotal - another poor assumption).
Good food. Although the serving staff looked the part they were not all trained correctly, ie: serving the men before the ladies and not knowing the ingredients of a dish.
From our arrival being greeted by our host we were quickly seated at a lovely table. A total of four staff members attended to us over the duration of our meal. The quality of service was extremely professional and attentive and discreet. We had booked for the pre-show menu, the choice was very good and between us we had a mix of the delights on offer, the dishes were all excellent in quality and beautifully presented. Our booking allowed a two hour reservation which was very generous.
We will certainly visit again on our next visit to Edinburgh from Cornwall and have no hesitation in recommending this quality setting to domestic or international visitors.
It provided a stunning start to a memorable evening attending the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, through which partnership our meal offer was made........definitely a five star treat, thank you all.
Good food at a good price in a good atmosphere , would definitely go back next time in Edinburgh.
Had the pre tattoo dinner for £19 for 2 courses. Not much choice, but what we had was good. Would have preferred to have paid a bit more for more choice.
Lovely evening. Excellent food, excellent value for money, great service and lovely not too noisy atmosphere.
We love visiting One Square for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere is always lively and relaxed and the choice of food is fabulous. Service is attentive and friendly, making for a lovely afternoon out. We always choose One Square to celebrate our special occasions.
The best lamb I had in years, but I had to cut it with the worst knife (actually knives as I tried three different ones) I used in the whole of my restaurant life. It takes the pleasure out of the meal.
Wonderful setting, delicious food & amazing cocktails! A very enjoyable evening!
Service is our major problem. We had to wait for everything and even ask for items.
Very enjoyable meal. Pleased with atmosphere and friendly staff. Car parking facilities was also appreciated
Overall a lovely restaurant with excellent food, drink and view of the Castle. I especially like the loyalty to local produce such as the seafood and meats. Also, as it was my girlfriends birthday, they brought out some fruits and chocolates on a plate without me knowing - which was a lovely surprise! The only downside I have is the value of the Irish Coffees. With both of us very full after our main we decided to finish with an Irish coffee which to our surprise cost £13...each... While a desert cost £8-10.
A very good lunch although we had to wait a while for our first course.
We love dining in this Restaurant and especially like the Sunday buffet. Superb cuisine and good service.
A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and a great location if you have guests visiting from another country, like we did. The Castle views, traditional food and lovely Jazz music was great. They now have a kids club that children from age 3+ can go play at. The young gentleman serving the roasts (sirloin or pork belly) was very helpful in advising that the smaller children could have chicken or salmon cooked for them if they didn't want the pork/beef. He also advised that a 'normal' gravy could be given to the children if the red wine jus (which I had and was delicious) was too much for the kids. Will be going back!
Not bad, just not good.
I was recommended the beef short rib but it was very very dry, either over cooked, over reheated (most likely) or sat under hot lights for too long (not likely as the mains came when I was at the toilet so they served when they wanted). That said, the seafood starter was very good but it is the main that counts so I can’t recommend.
This restaurant is very well organized and unusually for an Edinburgh venue peaceful -- it is quite busy at lunch time but the service is excellent. The menu is interesting and changes frequently but best of all the food is exceptional and beautifully served.
Excellent pre-theatre meal. Food was perfect and the service was very good indeed.
This was our first visit to ONE SQUARE. From arriving until leaving was a very pleasant experience. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. The service and food we had was top notch and we will have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to our family and friends.
Sunday lunch with the parents. Lots of choice for food and very tasty. Personally the jazz band were a bit intrusive but then I’m not a massive fan
Great selection of gin which is their specialty. While the menu selection is not expansive the quality of the menu items is great.
Fantastic menu, good ambiance. Very attentive staff. Just right.
Booked the restaurant for pre theatre dinner due to excellent location; altogether very good, could not fault the food, service or surroundings. Very pleasant staff only added to our visit. More than happy to return on next visit to Edinburgh.
One Square consistently delivers great service and thoughtful, delicious menus.
Super steaks great atmosphere and a restaurant I will be back to
Bonne cuisine, bonne présentation, service sympa. Une bonne soirée
Excellent staff saved the day! We were very badly let down by Open Table!! Your system allowed us to make a booking for Sunday lunch the day before, but when we arrived the restaurant said they had been fully booked for weeks. Fortunately the very helpful and attentive staff managed to find a space for us. A superb Sunday buffet style lunch followed. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. However, would definitely NOT RECOMMEND booking with Open Table!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. It was very busy as it was a Saturday in the run-up to Christmas, but no complaints.
Nice burger, but not special. Good service, pleasnt atmosphere. Annoyed by automatic addition of service charge (only 2 people) - service is the job. Would have given a larger tip than the service charge had this not already been added. As it was we didn't leave anything extra.
I rarely dine at hotel restaurants for dinner. Glad I made the exception this time. Mussels were very well prepared and presented and the Cod was truly excellent
