New York Magazine, "trendy but not aggressive bar scene". The perfect meeting place for lunch, after work drinks and dinner or fun late-night on the weekends.Set in a neighborhood that for more than a hundred years was the knife’s edge of wealth, corruption, poverty and crime.
Onieals today is a refined, hip restaurant with a long history as well as being the "Sex and the City" Scout Bar, owned by characters Steve and Aidan in the show.
Restaurant closed down and didn’t even bother to take their reservations off of open table. My husband and I got all the way to the restaurant and had to figure out by the fact that the lights were off and no tables were set up outside that they were closed. Didn’t even have a sign on the door.... I understand these are hard times but at least take your reservations down and have a sign on the door
Everything was phenomenal, wish I could give a sixth star for ambiance, though!
Food and drink wise, this place is trash. My old fashioned was too expensive to be so sweet! The calamari was bland and over fried. I opted out of ordering entrees and went to The Smith where my drinks were far better for two bucks more and a satisfying calamari dish just a few bucks more as well.
If your looking for a small and intimate restaurant this is the place. Super cozy. Drinks and food are delicious. Staff is extremely pleasant. Great place for a drink or a meal.
Came here for a birthday lunch when away with friends to New York from London. So nice and cosy, I preferred the mood change in music when the SATC tour came in as the music was super chilled before that, but was still great. Our server was excellent. My friend said what she had (enchiladas, perhaps?) was AMAZING, I would have liked more flavour in my burger, but hey! My bloody Marys weren’t as tasty as I’m used to in London but had more in the city and they weren’t either, so they hit the spot but not to my personal taste. All in all, thank you for hosting us and I look forward to visiting again next year!xx
Very beautiful space, and it is filled well with great staff and wonderful food. I am sure there are club hours when dining incompatible with dancers, but when the place is quiet, they put out a first rate product. All our dishes were quite good, and the Chablis on the wine list was great. I wish I had taken a picture of the label to remember the name. Dining prices are quite reasonable, but it costs more for a good buzz, all well worth the experience. Compared to the loathsome pseudo Italian joints in the immediate vicinity, this place is the dining star! Check it out!
Si bien la comida estaba muy buena le faltaba encanto al lugar para un almuerzo
Friendly and very attentive service. Awesome lunch! We will definitely be back!
Goodby celebration
Service was slow and inattentive
Great service, both at the bar and at the table. Knowledgeable, professional and friendly!
Awesome meal as always. Snow on the ground but nice and warm inside. Great NY strip. Be back next year.
The staff was personable enough, but we just got bad service. I made my reservation through opentable but they had no record of it. I showed my confirmation e-mail to the hostess and she was polite about helping us, but just pointed at our table across the room instead of seating us. There was a special Valentine's menu that included sea bass and hanger steak, which we ordered. Unfortunately, we were served the sea bass and hanger steak from the regular menu and the steak was not cooked as I had ordered it. Maybe it was just an off night. The atmosphere seems great for drinks, but we won't come back for dinner.
The ambiance and the extensive menu were great! Was a perfect Valentines Day spot.
Good ambiance, fun music, delicious drinks. Really a cool place. Didn't realize it turned into a club around 10:00 pm. Had to elbow our way to the restroom through all the party-goers. Food was bland & nothing to write home about. I would go for the night life, not for a dinner.
Great place. We were looking for a cosy place with great ambiance and found it there by chance. We enjoyed the food, the decor, the service, reasonable price and the music also.
Most of the experience was great. Deviled eggs were a little bland, and the so were the zoodles. Friend loved her steak, and service was great as well.
Nice spot. Service was good and good was excellent. Short rib tacos were some of the best. Scallops and risotto was cooked just right. A bit noisy but overall lively good spot.
Local neighborhood gem! Love the ambiance in there with the lights. Good place for a chilly night. Had the short rib with elote. Wasn't my favorite - I wasn't feeling the BBQ sauce on the short rib, but that's my fault - I should've known BBQ sauce probably wasn't a great choice for me. The elote would've been good, but it tasted really sweet for some reason, like there was sugar in there along with the cheese. Not sure if that was on purpose. But my friend liked his meal and the oysters were good! I'd give it another shot!
Great spot. Food was delicious. We had the deviled eggs, fried calamari, the blackened seared tuna, and the spaghetti bolognese. Our friends had the penne vodka and loved it as well.
The one 'con' is not one I would typically mention, but given that we were told it happens somewhat frequently, I think it's worth noting. We all met a little earlier than our reservation and had a drink at the bar. The local DA office was having a happy hour, and they ended up having several of their team members give speeches over the course of 20 minutes. Definitely awkward to sit at a bar and have to whisper while people spoke for 20 minutes. Not really appropriate unless you have a private room.
Fun fun fun place w great food
My friend knocked over his glass of wine & it was cleaned up & replaced before you could blink an eye. The cocktails are cold & the food is delicious. Dinner for 4 with cocktails including tip was $180 & we ordered quite a bit. I highly recommend this Nolita establishment which I stop at every time I am in Manhattan.
Native NYer and this was my first time at Oniels. We really enjoyed our family dinner of 12 at Onieals. Lisa, our waitress, was extremely pleasant, helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious and the cocktails refreshing. will definitely return.
Last minute reservation and we couldn't be happier with the restaurant. Very good drink selection, cocktails, beer and wine all had something to choose. Apps, Salad, and main course were tasty. Felt like a local place that you would have on the regular dinner rotation. Will be back when in the area.
This is a lovely bar with a few tables available for eating. We went for the Sunday brunch and we all enjoyed the food. The waffles with fruit were great (two large waffles). The omelettes were excellent as well. Marcus, our server, could not have been nicer.
I loved the food and services there
It was a super bowl night and everything is amazing even the place packed by people.
Cute & Charming
My group of 7 had a reservation for a table this past Saturday. It was crowded, boisterous and loud, but so are we so we fit right in :) The menu in the restaurant differed from the one online and we weren't thrilled with it at first...but it turned out great. The mac and cheese with bacon app was awesome; we got two to share and each were able to have a few bites. Good burgers, the scallops with risotto was delicious and a just-right portion...our table by the windows with all the sparkly lights was cozy and charming.
Great experience!
My favorite neighborhood bar/restaurant. Defines comfortable...
We waited an hour for mediocre food.
Very pleasant waitress and other staff. We went for Brunch with a reservation, and was seated almost immediately. The menu had a good selection and we wanted to try everything. Our dishes were delicious and the booze brunch unlimited brunch cocktail option was great. Although the restaurant got a little busy, we never felt rushed. When the bar got busy, they slid a door divider to block off the area a little. It was a very cozy relaxing experience. We'll definitely be back.
This is a great neighborhood spot. Food and service are solid.
Beautiful place
Everything else was just ok. Food was competently prepared. Service was acceptable.
This is a busy place, but with the wait. Food was excellent and service was outstanding. They were overbooked so at first it looked we didn't think we'd make it, but they came outside to find us and and let us know they had worked it out. Bought us an appetizer and paid for our drinks because if it.
Interesting menu, had the steak and it was great.
Loved it! Was a quiet brunch o'clock time, very attentive and lovely Waitrose (she has the most awesome hair!). Food was tasty and quite generous. Cocktail was lush and pretty pokey! Hit the spot! Fab atmosphere, decoration and history too. 5*
Fantastic food. Fantastic drinks. Fantastic service. What else do you need?
Food was was all frozen reheats, like stadium food
We went for boozy brunch for my fiancées birthday. The drinks and food were great!
Love this spot, it's a cute atmosphere and never disappoints!
This is definitely a place that is different than I have ever been. There are only like 10 tables in the entire restaurant. The decor is old and the room is sketchy. The menu is limited. Service is super slow. Our waitress was sitting and eating a table with a friend while working. And they also lets pets in the restaurant!!! The food was not bad but there are too many other places to go. We will not return.
$1 oysters were delicious! Outside seating was tight, but it was still enjoyable. Would recommend and plan to go back again!
