What Insiders Are Saying
Ottolenghi is a casual restaurant and deli that serves fresh Middle Eastern-influenced food, pastries and excellent salads.
Brilliant, as ever. Inventive, well balanced & great value Sunday brunch.
Second time I've been and as good as the first. Can't recommend enough - especially for brunch. Have the shakshuka, delicious
Lovely staff, lovely experience with interesting food. Will go again.
The food was absolutely delicious and we had wonderful service at our table. It was our first visit and we arrived about twenty minutes early thinking we could have a drink at the bar but were told by the female member of staff at the reception desk to go away for twenty minutes. She said we would find a nearby pub for a drink. All of us felt it was a very rude welcome. Thereafter all staff were attentive and kind.
Bit of a mixed review. The food itself was delicious (especially the vegetables - the butternut squash was stunning) but unfortunately the meal gave both myself and my friend a bad stomach. My friend said the kofte she got was cold so maybe it had been sitting around and not heated up properly. There was something off about the fish I had too, had a strange smell and weird texture. Really a shame as I thought ottolenghis was going to be a decent restaurant. For this reason I wouldn’t return.
From the friendly welcome, to the cute waiter and eclectic menu, on to delicious food, and even a happily reasonable bill, this continues to be the place I most often recommend to out of town friends. My favorite!
Very nice restaurant with wonderful food. Friendly staff.
The food was ok, the service was better, it was overpriced for what we had.
I have eaten at NOPI a few times and it is amazing so high expectations but slightly disappointed. My mistake for not looking but limited lunch menu. Service was mostly very good. Friend wished a happy birthday which was a nice touch. One lovely waiter but another not great and had to ask for wine list and then remind someone to take our order which then came after we had started eating.
Outstanding food as always, love the many different tastes. Will definetely be back!
Service unfriendly and ambiance too nous. Food very good
This was a special but small family dinner . The food and care of staff met and exceeded expectation .
However the staff to customer ratio meant that our waiter seemed stretched to be able to give us the attention he was inclined to give and we were time to time distracted by his lack of availability.
The noise level meant it was difficult to have normal intimate family table interaction and conversations without having repeat or make an effort to raise voices .
The tables are too close together. It was difficult to get up and pass between tables without disturbing other diners
These factors detract from the care and excellence of the food and wine and decor which are a delight
We had a lovely dinner with exquisitely prepared food. The service was well timed and generous. Great ambiance!
This was like going to a reasonably good veggie restaurant and paying high end restaurant price.
Prompt attention from a very friendly & efficient waiter (Andrea). Superb vegetarian food, original, tasty. Innovative cocktails & wonderful range of breads with olive oil.
It was my wife's 60th birthday & she loved the whole experience!
A great clean meal. Well worth the money, would recommend it to anyone wanting a great meal. Food was amazing
Excellent meal with no disappointments, but quite expensive.
Kommen gerne wieder.
We ended up here our first night in London after I read the yelp reviews and we had an amazing meal.
The eggplant and beef and lamb koftas were the favorites. The house made focaccia was fantastic and we tried quite a few wines from their beautifully curated list of small wine makes from around Europe.
Meeting up with a friend who lives in London the next night he was amazed to hear that we had somehow found our way to his favorite restaurant without his guidance.
An absolute gem!
I have been an Ottolenghi fan since forever but only via recipe books. This was my first meal in an Ottolenghi restaurant and I was not disappointed. The food was superb and the ambiance perfect. Unfortunately our server was quite hard to understand, more so for my hearing impaired friend.
This is always my treat when in London and definitely worth carving out two hours of my day ( with commuting to the place). Very creative menu and nice casual atmosphere. Exceptional cakes display :) Even if you did not plan on dessert, you will have one. Go for ingredients you do not know, it is worth the experience.
Delicious food in a relaxed environment with great, friendly service
Staff are very helpful and friendly. Food is always so tasty at Ottolenghi and they have best tea and coffee!
Really well spiced small plates of tapas type food - delicious.
Went here because I've read a lot of nice things about this restaurant. I can tell you: it's a very nice restaurant indeed. The food was delicious and the staff was very kind. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to others.
Everything was perfect, but noise level hard for conversation
Visited for lunch with my sister, we had a 6 week old baby with us. This was her first lunch out since before having him. The service was the real reason for writing this review. All of the staff were exceptional. They all looked genuinely happy to be working there and were so accommodating with our needs. Warm friendly service without being over the top. The food was tasty however a little pricey. I can overlook that as we had such a pleasant afternoon. Good work guys x
My daughter and I (we live in the Netherlands and are fans of Ottolenghi's cokbooks) had a really scrumptious lunch there last Sunday. It was a bit noisy (acousics could be improved) but otherwise we really enjoyed ourselves. Will definitely be recommending it to friends and family.
Great visit my wife has all the books and really enjoyed the experience
Amazing, interesting food with great flavours. Fabulous service and lots of atmosphere.
We have eaten twice at Ottolenghi in Islington, a long time ago. Spitalfields is quite different in style, but the food is equally stunning. The vibe is very relaxed and the dining room is modern and stylish. It was a very busy Saturday evening but even so the noise level was ok and the service was rapid and friendly. The food from the deli counter is to die for and very hard to decide on. The menu choices for "small plates" are wide enough for most tastes but not too extensive and therefore relatively easy to choose from. It was all absolutely delicious. The second trip to the deli, to choose puddings, was worth it. If we had just chosen from the card, we would probably have declined puds, but once you see them......
To us provincial folk the total meal cost struck us as expensive, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment. We would not hesitate to recommend Ottolenghi to anyone, but if you like Mediterranean/Lebanese style food it should be right at the top of your list.
I'm a long-time fan of Yotam Ottolenghi's cookbooks so have been keen to see how his food is prepared by the professionals. This restaurant did not disappoint. Service and atmosphere both good, but it's the food where this place excels - it is excellent food. The dishes really let their ingredients sing. Highly recommended.
It’s okay here, good value but not worth the hype. Service was good, food quite average.
Excellent Friday brunch. Food was fresh and delicious; and service and atmosphere were just right. A perfect escape from the busy city streets. I’d go every week if I could!
Lovely atmosphere and food. Average service.
You just can't go wrong. If you love veg, fresh flavours and attentive staff then go to Ottogolenghi.
Outstanding food- hake and quail from the kitchen were superb, but what really sets this restaurant apart is the vegetable side dishes and salads which are hero dishes in their own right. And I dare anyone not to be tempted by the cake and patisserie counter.
We came here for our Wedding Anniversary and to use a £50 gift voucher. It was very noisy but clearly a great buzz and very happy people. At lunch time, the noise level is far les intrusive. The food was excellent and our waiter wonderful. The staff seem to work very hard here to give the best customer experience, including the manager. You must try the goat cutlets if they have them and the deep fried mussels!
Superb alternatives to the average breakfasts you get at most places (we had breakfast/ brunch) . Great ingredient combinations as ever.
A favourite restaurant for a special occasion due to price but you get what you pay for.
Lots of fabulous flavours & a unique style.
Leave room for dessert, they’re gorgeous!
