Ottolenghi Spitalfields
What Insiders Are Saying
Ottolenghi is a casual restaurant and deli that serves fresh Middle Eastern-influenced food, pastries and excellent salads.
Best aubergine I’ve ever had - overall amazing flavour combinations that hadn’t previously tried. Lovely cakes at the end. My boyfriend didn’t like one of his salad choices but down to personal preference as I thought it was amazing - he loved the sardines though ! Padron peppers were also incredible ! Definitely worth the trip
Brilliant food and service! I would definitely recommend it.
A wonderful service has recommended exactly the right food and wine. All courses were excellent. All in a casual and very pleasant atmosphere. The evening was great.
Great food. Attentive but not overbearing service. Delicious cocktails. We will definitely be back
Great and innovative food. Great vegetarian options.
Firstly, I LOVE the food at Ottolenghi and as usual it was excellent. But, We were in a good mood and because of that we allowed our persuasive waiter to convince us that we had not ordered enough dishes, even though we have eaten there before several times and know the portion size. So we were disappointed to not be able to fnish everything we ordered - at least two dishes too many we felt - and be presented with such a hefty bill. Don’t like walking away wondering if the waiters are paid by what they sell....
Everything was perfect, I suggest the Dutch pancake. Good atmosphere.
The service and food were excellent and it was also very different cuisine to anything I have tasted before . Would return in a heartbeat!
Service was terrible. Wait stuff did not pay any attention to us. It took forever to order or get our food or drinks. If they had an inkling to stop by and ask if we wanted a second glass of wine, the restaurant would of made another $40. Was really looking forward to come to the restaurant (it was a bday gift from my friends for my trip to London) and left really disappointed.
A classy but relaxed ambiance with very attentive service. Salads were delicious, combining unusual flavours, and we found a selection of three salads more than enough for dinner.
Gorgeous cocktails, incredibly appetising menu. Perfect for catching up over lunch as it wasn’t too noisy, the staff were fast and attentive and the ambiance smart yet casual enough.
Always delicious, great professional fast service. Ambience is casual and not pretentious. It’s a great restaurant I visit time and time again with friends.
The food was delicious here - incredible salads , some of the best in a London. The only minus was we were seated late and then repeatedly told we needed to clear our table in an hour and a half. I do understand that they need to turn the tables and the food arrives quickly but it’s not ideal to be reminded quite so many times.
An amazing experience of tastes and flavours.
Good place to have yummy breakfast. I liked the idea that you had your own toaster on the table and could order different bread platters.
Extremely overpriced - small portions. Service was v attentive - almost too attentive. One of the ‘hot’ dishes came cold. Would go back - disappointed
Top quality food with the highlight being the cauliflower salad. Great service and good value for money.
We enjoyed our evening but felt that although the ambience was good, the noise level was too high. Our waitress was very warm and professional and this made a difference to the evening. Some of the food was excellent but I was a bit disappointed by just how rich some of the dishes were just too rich and the flavours did not compliment each other. Its a personal thing though so other diners may feel differently
I have cooked from Ottolenghi's cookbooks for years and dining in person was the perfect complement to the series. The flavor profiles I now associate with home, quality ingredients and perfect platings and pairings were magic.
Thank you!
Lovely breakfast
Really good food (especially the desserts) it was so busy that the servers were rushed off their feet and seemed very stressed out (Tuesday night) wine list was so over priced but food is good value. Love how many vegetarian options there are!
Vegetable heaven.
We had chosen the restaurant for the Ottolenghi food. We know it from Nopi and from the Ottolenghi books, but we like his vegetarian dishes best. So we were delighted with the lunch formula, that allows a choice of 4 different vegetable salads, or a main with 2 or 3 salads. 7 salads to choose from! They all looked delicious. And they were. We tasted 6 of them and asked for a table the next day. We liked it that the vegetables are not overcooked, and we also appreciate the use of spices to boost their pure taste.
And we are still wondering what was our favourite : aubergine, butternut or fennel.
The highlight of my weekend in London was my visit here.I introduced my friends to Ottolenghi food and they loved it!!Prices were equivalent to Dublin prices so we look forward to having our own Ottolenghi restaurant there 😁
Absolutely wonderful experience- great staff and food was simply excellent. Great cocktails - and mock tails! Superb well worth a trip. Great to be able to take cake home too!
Excellent food, coffee and atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Busy restaurant on a Saturday night. Good interesting and tasty range of health Mediterranean food. We had two different types of medium cost red wine, neither of them particularly good, strong sulphites! Service generally friendly and attentive, although had to remind for second bottle of wine by which time meal was nearly finished. Overall however an enjoyable experience.
Fantastic flavours in a very inventive combination regarding all dishes eaten! I had the selection of three salads including butternut squash, aubergine and fennel - all came with delicious dressings and little extra touches such as crunchy croutons. Textures and flavours divine! My friend loved her sardines, and we both spent most of the lunch eulogising over the food......highly recommended.... and as an extra bonus - it ticked all the healthy eating boxes!
I’ve been waiting a long time to visit this restaurant and it certainly didn’t disappoint. My husband has eaten in fabulous restaurants all over the world. He was bowled over by the quality and presentation of the food. Our server was very professional! Incredible service! It’s rare lately that you get both good service and wonderful food. It was wonderful.
Great dinner with my 18 year old son. Very good service. We loved the Mezze concept
Absolutely wonderful - nice guests, very good service and a delicious dinner in tapas style. Definitely recommend Ottolenghi spitalfields for people who enjoy good food and are lovers of an open-minded cuisine.
Good but not outstanding food. Service was friendly but ever so hectic. With so many outstanding restaurants in London they must up their game a little!
An enjoyable lunch with delicious food and efficient service in a convenient and relaxed setting
Not impressed despite superb service, the food was lacking in my opinion and overpriced. I also handed my coat and laptop into the cloakroom and after dinner my coat was returned but not my laptop. I was rushing to get an Uber so I forgot about my laptop and had to travel back the next day from Surrey to get it. It would have been nice if the lady on the cloakroom remembered my laptop as part of cloakroom ticket or at the least apologized for the inconvenience however it was merely dealt with a laugh(I fully accept my own responsibility here but some acknowledgment would have been nice).
In short I was expecting a lot as I have the book plenty but left just a bit disappointed(our waitress(French girl) was brilliant however
Amazing food well worth the hype
First time visit to an ottolenghi and will definitely be returning
I have been wanting to dine at Ottolenghi’s for months and decided to go for a special occasion. Food was nice but definitely overpriced. The service was good but it is clear that the staff is encouraged to interact with customers a lot. We received a lengthy explanation of the menu and the waiter topped up our water glasses very often, besides checking on us many times during our dinner. The waiter was very professional and friendly, so I believe this is down to the general management style. Overall, it feels like a very hyped restaurant but it was not worth the money spent.
Great breakfast!
Food was tasty and fancy. However portions was little and over priced. Lots of MSG in food
Started with harissa parsnips, which were good, but a few too many for one person. I was expecting them to be served warm but they were cold. (This could have been my mistake). Followed with grilled quail, which wasn't particularly tasty and the first mouthful was full of tiny bones - very off-putting. The chocolate rum cake dessert, however, was delicious.
Restaurant staff were lovely. I was eating alone (with a book for company) and sitting with her back to me at the very next table was another lady eating alone and reading a book. It might have been nice if we had been asked whether we would like to share a table. I would have welcomed it and it might have been fun - just a thought.
Delicious food at Ottolenghi. Couldn’t resist getting one of their enormous meringues to take home too. Would highly recommend.
My family and I came to this restaurant on Saturday to celebrate a birthday and it was absolutely amazing! The staff were very welcoming and explained everything extremely clearly. The food was to die for!! Overall it was outstanding and we would definitely come again. Thank you!
