What Insiders Are Saying
Ottolenghi is a casual restaurant and deli that serves fresh Middle Eastern-influenced food, pastries and excellent salads.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, friendly staff, can’t wait to go back!
Excellent service and great food! Our table was not ready yet, but the team was extremely nice and handled the situation very quickly and professionally. We will definitely come again!
Nice brunch with a friend, food was good and staff really helpful.
It was my wife’s surprise birthday brunch. We were a party of three adults one boisterous toddler and a baby. My wife loves your recipes but we’ve never eaten in the restaurant. We were delighted with the food, service and ambience. We were really well catered for even when our toddler accidentally banged her head and you quickly came to her aid with an impromptu ice pack! Couldn’t be happier. Thank you.
We ordered all of the veg dishes, we found them very sweet and all quite soft and baby food like in texture. Did not feel like they complimented each other very well and all blended into one. The started salads were very good though
Food was fine. There was one lovely woman serving but the other staff were dreadful. The whole experience was expensive and overpriced. Went to Palomar the next night, a far better alternative.
Great evening - treated by my kids. Superb salads and mains. Steak absolutely delicious. Ditto aubergine. Loved it.
Fantastic fresh food, highky recommendable. Top top quality!
Amazing vegetarian dishes
Love this place. Wish you would open a branch in Chelmsford
Lovely service. My friend has some severe food intolerances and they marked up a separate menu for him and accommodate us brilliantly.
The late lunch menu is good value for money. I had salmon, which was rather dry, and two salads, one fennel based and the other aubergine, which was too salty for my taste. I felt the dishes were not as delicious as they used to be. A little tired. Overall though a pleasant experience, very attentive staff and the sparkling water is delicious!
Food was good. Service was friendly and very accommodating. The space is a bit bland but lots of natural light.
This was my second time at this Ottolenghi and I was not quite as thrilled about our experience this time round. The service is friendly and good, the atmosphere lively and fun but the food seemed to lack some of the brilliance I remember it having a year ago. Two dishes in particular were disappointing. The sweet potatoes looked fantastic, but lacked in flavour and the half an aubergine with chickpeas was swimming in a pool of oil which was a turn off to the eye and stomach. To be fair, the other dishes we had, fennel with candied nuts and duck dumplings (?) were both amazing! Again, my beef with Ottolenghi lies with their dessert offerings. They are much too heavy which is a shame as they do look good. Lighter offerings would be appreciated. We also had amazing coriander martinis which I highly recommend.
We came for Sunday lunch but arrived while breakfast was still being served. So we had some excellent salads and wine until the hot lunch was available. Great food. Well worth the wait. I will book a table at the right time next time which will be very soon. Service was very good.
Absolutely fantastic evening . Sumptuous food and professional and friendly staff.
Delicious food, service was great, but it's quite pricey.
Sadly the combination of the veggie options being very overpriced and awful service left us feeling disappointed. Some lovely flavours but I wouldn’t return.
Excellent brunch. Food was all delicious. Packed restaurant, so very loud - need some noise absorbing panels on the ceiling to stop the sound echoing around the room so much.
All the food items ordered were delicious - bread board with the incredible halva Danish. Corn cakes (could do with one more poached egg - was unable to order extra as the kitchen had moved on to lunch, our table was about 25 mins late due to the previous guests not leaving on time). Fried gallium dish also very tasty. I had the shakshuka which was delicious (perhaps offer with some chilli oil on the side to kick up the heat. Great flavours.
Purchased a bunch of cakes and food to take away from the shop also.
Our only disapppintment was the staff. No one, from the Maitre D to table staff to store staff was warm or remotely welcoming. They all looked incredibly flustered and rushed off their feet. Not once did someone come back to the table to ask if everything was ok, or if we needed more water or drinks. Had to ask for assistance at least 4/5 times during the meal - I assume staff are so busy doing the basics they have no time to pay any attention to the paying customers.
I had made another booking for a few weeks time, but have now cancelled as I was so disappointed by the service. Can't fault the food, but the staff levels need to be increased so that some semblance of Service can be added in. Or perhaps just a heart to heart from the Restaurant Manager, who is clearly oblivious to this issue or is not making this a part of the ethos at Ottolenghi.
This place is not cheap, so I expect decent and friendly service. If not, stop adding the automatic 12.5% to the bill as a service charge.
Interesting place. Nice options on both the breakfast and the lunch menu, some of the ordinary stuff you got everywhere and some much more unique. The lunch menu got really good and interesting salads options that you can also take home. Great deserts to go as well. Why the 3 stars - acoustics are terrible, when the place is full (and it's not that big, around 20 small tables) you can't hear yourself think. We also waiting around 30 mins for our mains and no one for the restaurant though that's wrong. Portions are a bit small, but actually they are the right side and every where else is just too big.
Great food and great drinks, friendly service
Rude front of house staff. Complete disregard for customers. Would not visit again
We love ottolenghi’s books. For this reason we went to habe a dinner there. We expected a very good food but that didn’t happened. Details like wine temperature wasn’t controlled, the time between first and principal was very long. We think it’s a industrial restaurant
we enjoyed eating here. Food was good, but not amazing, and to be honest i was expecting better. However i would still recommend it, it's worth going, a good experience.
Recommended but vat is not included in the price. To be aware of.
Amazing food. I would recommend to anyone seeking unusaual tasty food. Portions are generous.
We were at the end of a communal table and noise levels are so high that it was difficult to hear each other. Only complaint preventing a five stars...
Fantastic food, great quality produce and really imaginative flavours. Beautiful combinations and well thought out. Could easily have stayed all day and grazed the whole counter.
Reasonably priced, £77 for two but that was without alcohol so still fairly pricey in my world.
However, lovely birthday lunch. Service was friendly and relaxed. One waitress really didn’t want to be there but wasn’t rude, just didn’t seem that concerned with much.
Have recommended to my friends and have my Ottolenghi cook book at the ready.
Return visit, for dinner rather than lunch. Again, the food was superb. The service was attentive but we were offered no advice on what to order. As usual, be bold and order the unusual sounding dishes - they will not disappoint
Visiting from Australia, I'm an Ottolenghi fan & my evening dining experience was everything I was hoping it would be.
Great welcome and great service. I felt the salads on offer didn’t really compliment the salmon, the cauliflower salad was not to my liking and the harissa flavour was to hot. In my view a tasty green salad would have been a nice alternative.
Such a lovely friendly family atmosphere amongst the beautiful looking team. Food was obviously amazing!
Well presented small plates of delicious food - not so small that we didn't feel satisfied at the end of our salad plates and main course!
The food was fantastic - fresh, flavorful, not heavy while being substantive and filling in the most delightful way. They were extremely accommodating of my friends allergies (gluten, dairy and soy - so not easy) and modified dishes for her - and they still tasted splendid. Desserts were above and beyond. A feast for the eyes and the stomach.
Service, as mentioned above, was great for the most part. Sometimes a bit inattentive but we were early in the evening and it was never detracting from the experience. We were able to book last minute but were late and we weren't given a hard time for this.
One of my favourite places to go with friends and family if and when nobody can make a decision on what to eat! Food consistently superb, service always friendly and efficient without being overbearing - love it
Delicious food, attentive staff and great atmosphere
Food is amazing, but the restaurant is too small and it seems the place is understaffed. The waiters were great but they couldn't handle everyone in the restaurant.
Amazing food experience and great service. Every dish is cook to a high standard and using fresh and good quality ingredients
A mémorable culinair and enjoyable experience! Challenging kitchen and relaxed atmosphere.
Maybe our expectations where to high?
-service to much in ‘up selling’ mode and rushed
-a column of very cold air from the elevator or air conditioning
-the temperature of the food was not optimal, cold dishes to cold, warm dishes not warm enough
-dishes where tastefull but not surprising, we miss especially fresh flavour accents in the compositions
Wonderful food that catered for my Coeliac disease and therefore gluten free diet wonderfully
