We had an amazing time at ottolenghi! Amy made our experience unforgettable! And what a delicious meal, she also helped us to pair the perfect wine x
Initially the service was attentive and then became less so as the evening progressed but it was always polite and friendly.
The food was ok without being special. Beware the hot plates all arrive together. We had three plates for two diners meaning that the final plate was cold by the time you get to it.
I pointed this out to staff but nothing was done. No offer to reheat. Just a shrug.
Desserts were excellent.
The choice on the menu is minimal. The dishes look and sound sophisticated, but the taste is far from being special. The place is crowded and noisy and the waiters, albeit polite and supporting, do not warn you about specific contents of the dishes ordered. I asked for a dish with aubergines and I got a dish with no aubergines but an aubergine oil sauce ! I ordered a cake defined as "tea cake" , but it was far from what the term meant and the waiters agreed with that ! Very disappointed !
Excellent. Amy was brilliant as a host. Ambience was relaxed and easy. Food was amazing with wonderful taste sensations.
Absolutely fantastic food, so many flavours, unbelievable
I'm a student doing research in London and I wanted to come to Ottolenghi as a splurge on one really good meal. I was quite disappointed by what I received. The eggplant was nearly tasteless, as though it had just been boiled and served up. The courgettes were good, but the portion was quite small, and even though I was told that two dishes would probably be enough, I left the restaurant feeling hungry. The service and vibe of the place were good though, no complaints there.
It was pretty loud and I struggled to hear my friend across from me. Vegan options are limited it atmosphere is nice
Great, unexpected taste sensations! Very cosy intimate atmosphere and personable staff! A bit on the expensive side but well worth it!
Another wonderful meal at Ottolenghi. Excellent food and service and made new friends on our table!
The staff were helpful and friendly . Food was excellent and generally a really good vibe
The food is amazing and the price is good. This is the second or third time we've been and we are always happy with food and service. The flavours and ingredients are always interesting and his cookbooks are our absolute favourites.
The food and the service was outstanding. Thank you for a wonderful evening
Very noisy, it was quite stressing having dinner in that situation . Service was perfect, and dessert was fantastic, but the rest of plates were average and small. Honestly, I was expecting more
I had aubergine and octopus and both dishes were so good. I had the most friendly waiter who explained me the Islington concept and who wasn't pushy to make me order things. I am sure I will eat there again when I am in London, as it is also affordable, but i would like to try the other Ottolenghi restaurants too.
As usual, Ottolenghi was incredible. Great food; great wine; perfect service. Would recommend to everyone!
We loved it, the food was great and it was wonderful to try some different flavours.
The staff were very good . Made you feel at ease and really knew everything about the food.
I was even able to take some goodies home 😃
Absolutely faultless and delicious food, we were looked after by attentive friendly (not too attentive) staff and didn’t get rushed off the table even though it was a busy Saturday evening.
Food is good, service fine. The booking system needs to be clearer - I booked a table for 2, but that turned out to be two seats on a long bench uncomfortably close to other diners. The restaurant needs to be clear when it can’t offer a table for 2.
It was a joy to bring an American friend to enjoy an evening at your restaurant. The food was wonderful and we were very well looked after by the staff team. I always feel a visit to the restaurant is special.
Ever since I bought the first book I have wished to eat at the restaurant. I enjoyed every moment, the food was delicious and our waiter made the evening even more special. I will visit again!
Wonderful food and fabulous service - just as good as it was when it first opened more than 15 years ago, if not better.
The overall experience was great. Food quality outstanding. The menu is small and a bit limited. We sat at the large communal table which was not ideal for our group but we made the best of it. Happy we made the trip to this dining destination.
The vegetarian disheswere excellent especially the green beans. However the salmon dish was disappointing (and expensive). Good house wines too. Quite noisy so not ideal for a romantic night out.
Fantastic meal. Great range of dishes and flavour combinations! Delicious!
The essence of a 5 Star restaurant is all about atmosphere plus ambiance. You know the cuisine will be outstanding so can it create a unique experience in which to eat that food? Ottalenghi’s sure can. We’ll be back for sure!!
Excellent food, atmosphere a bit hectic, especially at share tables. The aubergine was great and so too the flourless chocolate cake which is the best I’ve tried. Overall a fine dining experience.
As we live near by, we tried at least 15 different sweets from their sweet corner. This was our first visit there for a date night. Although they did not have our reservation (I guess due to technical issue), they did their best to accommodate us. Excellent high-quality food, very friendly and well informed staff, cozy atmosphere. Vibrant and busy restaurant that it's a must to be visited. Reservations are recommended as the place is very popular (now we are 100% sure why:-) Respect, Ottolenghi Team!
Am a big fan so was not surprised at the quality of the food however a couple of interesting dishes. I had never eaten celeriac and will definitely copy this dish, roasted squares of celeriac with cheese and herbs was a wonderful combination of textures and flavours. I had also never eaten goat (having avoided the stringy spit roast version in the Middle East), however the slow roasted goat with lentils was tender and wonderfully spiced. We took home desert in the form of a chocolate cherry baba and a sumptuous carrot cake. We also bought some tahini to try and found it to be lighter than the one we usually use and very very tasty. We will be back for more ...
Fantastic all around.
We had two seafood dishes and four vegetable based. The green bean and pineapple salad was the stand out winner.
All very good.
Service was the best I’d had anywhere in a long time.
Amazing quality of the food and the unique preparations
The food was amazing and the service impeccable. Bravo.
The food was mostly good--mainly the kitchen dishes were fabulous, and the counter dishes were hit-and-miss. We sat at the communal table, which was pleasant enough, but the high noise level and great distance between myself and my dining partner made speaking difficult. I really enjoyed the pork belly and cabbage dishes, as well as the aubergine counter dish. I was in the mood for chocolate, so got the flourless chocolate fondant cake--yum! The bread was also fantastic, as was my glass of Baladi wine.
Magnificent food matched with a lovely ME wine. Never disappoints
What a fab place for great food and great wine.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in London - the staff are always super-friendly, the menu is always full of unusual flavours that never disappoint, and the wine list has the usual choices plus plenty of more unusual choices.
Great food and service. Fair prices. Highly recommended 👍
Wonderful experience. We traveled from Manchester especially to dine there. It was a treat for my birthday. It exceeded my expectations in every way . I wish I could eat there frequently.
We had a wonderful evening. Thanks for excellent food and very friendly service.
Ottolenghi is a small brightly lit restaurant, and most of the diners share the long central table. Although we were a party of six, we were shoulder to shoulder to the next group, which might have been annoying but actually it added to the general light hearted mood.
Ordering food is a somewhat complex operation as almost all the dishes are for sharing, and supposedly of starter size - though I'd say they were more generous than that. The very knowledgable waiter suggested we order two or three per person. This took the price per person before wine to around £40, which might seem high considering half the menu consists of already prepared cold vegetarian assemblies. However the cold vegetarian assemblies were all delicious, very much the equal of the carnivorous alternatives. The perfect place to go then, if your party is a mixture of carnivores, fishivores, veggies and vegans. With our food we drank the cheapest white wine, a fresh and zingy white Rioja at around £25. Ottolenghi is set known for his cookery book,s containing receipts that are harder to replicate than one would think. It was a pleasure to taste the food as the chef imagines it.
