Oxo's On the Mount
First time at this lovely restaurant.. will definitely visit again next time we’re in York. Steak was very good but a bit on the pricey side. Overall, service and food is very good,, staff very friendly and approachable. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Really disappointed, the lamb was full of fat, I had trouble finding any meat and then when I tried to cut the fat away it was really difficult, I am surprised that when my plate went back and the pork from my partners plate went back someone really should have asked a direct question to us about the state of the meat. The fact that it was a special treat for my sister I really did not want it to damper the day so I did not complain. I really do recommend getting a new meat supplier. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and the restaurant is very pretty.
Very disappointed with menu not as good as was shown on there website
From walking in the door everything about our visit was good. The welcome was warm, we were offered drinks in the bar or garden first or at the table. We chose the latter. We have allergy issues which they were very attentive to. Service was prompt but not rushed, the menu was varied and offered a good range.
The quality was very good and cooked superbly. Overall a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary and the staff really couldn’t do any more for us. Thank you all at Oxo’s.
Staying at the Mount Royal so Oxo seemed the obvious choice and what a good choice it was, none of us had anything but praise for both the service and the food, without doubt next time we are in York we will return.
Dined at oxo for a 40th birthday meal and stayed in the mount the food is fantastic and the service is second to none too.
I couldent fault the reception we had all the way to the final minute of our experience , the food was exceptional, quality produce with the passion of the chef to deliver the fine dining experience I have become custom to , my only but is the experience at the bar. Being a very small area found myself sandwiched between people sitting in the corner of the bar and just a couple of people at the bar just had enough space to order a drink before was asked to move because the people in corner wanted to get past , then I ordered two drinks one gin one grey goouse , I was plesenty shocked to find that was £30.50 I felt this was a little over priced as my meal with a bottle of wine came to £88.00 which I throughly would pay again and again , all in all I would return and would tell others to go to this restaurant ,
We had dinner here after a day at the races. The service was excellent .Special dietary needs were weĺl catered for with no fuss made. Both the food and drinks are to a high standard. The dining room has a relaxing ambience.Recommended .
Excellent food and service, but perhaps a bit on the expensive side for York. They made my birthday special.
Myself and my wife dined here on a Saturday night. We were very well looked after by all of the staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Would certainly come back as there were many dishes on the menu I would love to try.
We had a delightful evening at Oxo's On the Mount. The menu was intriguing, the food was absolutely delicious and the portions were extremely generous. Service was excellent - staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. We'd mentioned when booking that it was a special occasion and we were presented with an anniversary cake at the end of the meal which was very kind and much appreciated. And on top of that, the meal was very good value for money! Highly recommended
The best thing about the restaurant was the service. Very charming, engaging and efficient. Not a fine dining place but reasonable, trad food and wine list at a good price. Situated in an old hotel on the outskirts of the city
Super evening took the family to celebrate the wifes sixtieth birtday fro the minute we walked in we were treated like royalty. Food exceptional and lovely ambience great evening was had by all.
The Oxo staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Food was excellent.
Would highly recommend this restaurant
We went here for our anniversary.
The service was excellent and the food lived up to standard as well.
They made our anniversary a special night!
Excellent staff service. Very friendly and go out of their way to make a great dining experience.
Would go again.
We was at the restaurant for a birthday celebration for my wife. We had a three course Sunday roast which was superb. A bottle of St Emilion accompanied the meal which we enjoyed. The service was friendly & relaxed. Finishing of the meal with coffee in the lounge was very comfortable & then being surprised by the staff singing Happy Birthday with a cake. All in all I would certainly recommend this restaurant.
A very enjoyable evening. The food from an interesting menu was great. Service was impeccable being discrete yet friendly and attentive. The resaurant's atmosphere was relaxed and intimate.
Great food and wine, super service. Wife’s birthday made special with a surprise cake.
Able to leave car overnight
Team couldn’t have been more welcoming.
Live in York but first time here, will add it to our list
Lovely meal for our anniversary. Great service and staff too
We were there for the Easter Sunday menu. There was a wide range of options and the food and service was excellent.
Nice traditional restaurant with super friendly service. Very good value and they have Darappier champagne!
Anniversary meal. Relaxes atmosphere. Very pleasant host, who made us feel very welcome. Starters were excellent. I had the smoked haddock, whilst my husband had the beef cheek. For mains I had salmon, which was tasty. Unfortunately my husbands duck was a little too pink ,but it was no problem to get this sorted, although the skin still was not rendered down as much as it could have been. However ,the taste was excellent, and the jus amazing. Came with a salted duck egg yolk, which was very unusual, but tasted fab. At the end of the meal we were presented with a small fresh fruit cake with a candle..a lovely touch. Would definitely eat here again when in York.
We booked Oxo’s on the Mount as an anniversary dinner and had a fabulous time. The two attendants were friendly, witty and accommodating. We were a a bot odd with only one of us having a starter and the other a desert but they happily gave us their recommendations and friendly joked about our choices. Honestly the restaurant was a bit higher class than we envisioned from other reviews at least for dinner but it was a great atmosphere. The food was brilliantly prepared, looking fantastic, tasted great and was extremely filling that I could no even look at my partners dessert. We both had the rib eye steak which were beautifully cooked and lovely mushrooms which had some kind of butter or oil as they were delicious and I could have simply had a plate of them.
As a small extra we were also offered some kind of small sweetened hot apple puree that I missed the name of, a gift from the chef and it was delicious and my partner who skipped the starter was very pleased with it.
To top off the night we had a coffee and a baileys coffee which they gave us a few areas to choose from. We chose the soft leather couch by a fire and while enjoying our coffee and digesting we were surprised with a lovely anniversary cake which we took some pictures with and ended up stuffing our faces with at the hotel later.
Really pleased with the evening, beautiful restaurant and felt very rustic which lots of charm, easy to get to from the city, friendly/fun staff and great food. Would highly recommend.
We had a very pleasant evening with three very tasty courses and great service.
Great service and good food. Waiters new they knew their wine and good give advice on choice with food
I will definitely go back again and recommend to friends who visit York
We chose Oxo’s restaurant as one to visit on our 3 night stay in York due to its easy walking distance from our hotel (Marriot) & the superb reviews it had. I was initially a little disconcerted to find it was “attached” & served the Mount Royal Hotel as I’ve previously found that hotel restaurants generally disappoint; I needn’t have worried.
We couldn’t get a booking on Valentines night so booked the following night which is the wife’s birthday but, when we arrived, discovered we were one of only 3 tables dining that night! It wasn’t a problem though as the staff were very friendly staff & accommodating & rather spoilt us for attention.
Portions were not huge but the point of fine dinning is quality not quantity & 2 courses was perfectly adequate for us. Overall, the food was excellent & didn’t disappoint; the scallop’s starter we both had (for the second night running) was excellent & perfectly cooked & the Lamb & Duck mains we had were delicious & faultless.
The restaurant is traditional, which I personally prefer, & had a very nice ambience. After our excellent meal, we retired to a lovely small bar area for coffee & Brandy. The bar staff person was excellent & brought out a birthday cake for my wife, complete with lit candle along with our drinks. The booking agent for the restaurant had previously asked if it was a special occasion but I wasn’t expecting much & this was a very nice touch. We could not eat the cake so they wrapped it in a very nice tin foil, Swan creation for us to take home. Really lovely attention to detail here, the final price for the evening was moderate but the food, wine & service was excellent.
Oxo’s well deserves its high ratings near the top of the fine dinning tree of York city & we will certainly visit again when we return. After chatting with the staff, we may well stay at the hotel which has a spa facility &, hopefully, will prove better than the Marriot which turned out to be very disappointing!
The most fitting word to describe Oxo's is charming.
Everything about it is lovely
Great food superb service
A warm welcome and a delicious meal, served in quiet, spacious, comfortable surroundings. We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate our friend's birthday.
I have just moved to York.
I took one of my sons on Saturday night.
We got a warm welcome the restaurant was warm and cosy and the food fantastic
Excellent service and delicious food. Highly recommended
Very nice and friendly
Booked this resturant on-line. The place was run proffesionally. he staff were polite helpfull and curtious. The food was execelent.
Absolutely love this place! Beautiful relaxing atmosphere , gorgeous food and superb service.
Have visited here before for special occasions and once again it did not fail to impress. The food was amazing and even though the restaurant was very quiet it did not spoil our enjoyment. A lovely place to celebrate 2 birthday's. Also presented with a cake, a nice touch. Will definitely return and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
We visited the oxo restaurant on the 29th and had a exceptional meal with some excellent wine. I had the crispy hens egg for starter which was more from curiosity than anything else. It arrived and was a simple dish with the ingredients separated however once combined in a mouthful the dish really entertained my tastebuds. Main dish I chose was red mullet a fish I haven’t often tried but his was excellently cooked and had a unique flavour. My wife had a similar experience with the choices she made as well. The wine we chose was delightful a bottle of Pouli fouse along with a glass of the premier cru Chablis which was sublime. Desert was a cinnamon creme brule which worked very well.
The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was delicious. At the end of the meal, they presented us with a cake for our anniversary and, as we were too full to eat it, wrapped it in the shape of a swan for us to take home. Much appreciated.
Friendly restaurant situated in a hotel. Food was of a good standard. Could do with more vegetarian options. I enjoyed the ambience of being in a lovely old-fashioned (in a good way) hotel
Great food locally sourced.
Very good English wine!
