Paternoster Chop House
We are bringing back the great British Chop House – harking back to a time when meat was king, portions were hearty and provenance was everything. Enjoy larger sharing cuts cooked on open charcoal grills, in Josper ovens or on spit roasts, alongside daily specials inspired by the best ingredients the British Isles have to offer.
Nice experience at the original First Dates restaurant.
Bar service was excellent.
Would have been better to be given a bowl of lemon water when shelling the prawns.
Food and service very good. However, the chairs are very uncomfortable, so you wouldn't want to delay the meal. The noise levels are off the chart! Tables very close together and as there are no table cloths to absorb the noise, it is quite a din - akin to a canteen. Nice enough but not particularly good for a special occasion. If you want to talk you need to go up a couple of octaves!
I enjoyed the food very much, the meat is great and the wine list is good.
Was there for team dinner and the foods were great. Front staff was a bit unfriendly but the others were nice to accommodate us at the end.
It is only worth going to this restaurant for the novelty factor. The food and service are just about good enough, the décor is old and outdated, and is not befitting of the location nor the prices. The toilet was grubby, and look liked they hadn’t been tended to in a while. Not somewhere I would return to.
The food was tasty but it didn't wow me like other restuarants. The service was 5☆ which made the whole experience of the 'first dates' restuarant one to remember. Although the food was standard, I would still recommend people to visit Paternoster Chop House purely for the atmosphere it brings.
It was all very good.
Table a bit small and chairs were uncomfortable but, all in all, a good experience.
Took a mate there for lunch and I had the seafood pie which was very nice. Told there was a 25 minute wait for the food so got some bread which I really liked! My friend had the lamb shank which he really enjoyed. All washed down with a couple of beers. Perfect.
Lovely restaurant, but very disappointed with the set menu.
We had the plaice which my partner couldn’t eat in the end.
Very small portion.
Being honest the steaks looked fantastic so maybe it was just a wrong choice but our food was definitely not value for money spend, two drinks and two set meals £82
A ‘fair’ rating is exactly right. Food was fair (not bad and not great), service was fine and the decor is rather plain with little atmosphere and an office block feel.
The food was great. Only issue was that we booked in advance and the seating was poor. Cramped on a small table for 5. Would have preferred a bigger table. Requested this; however unavailable
We had an excellent time at the Paternoster Chop House. The food was excellent comfort food with a twist and at the very top of it's game e.g. venison wellington and chicken and gammon pie, both of which were superb. We had several bottle of very nice wine with a two course meal which made it quite pricey but, due to the quality, we all thought it was well worth the money. The service was really friendly and helpful and all five of us had a cracking evening.
I didn’t know it was the “First Dates” restaurant when I booked. The food was expensive but only ok. I suspect it was packed due somewhat to its fame. My sirloin was not as good as the price implied. It was dry and quite tasteless. My friend’s sauce with her baked cod was superb; and cheaper than my steak. Service was ok but level of attention was not great. My first drink came after my starter had arrived and only because I asked where it was. It wasn’t easy to catch the staff’s attention. Dessert was amazing! Had the apple and cinnamon puff. Really delicious. House red wine was good also.
Enjoyed the experience great service
Service was amazing. They even provide a special pudding to mark our anniversary without us even asking. Super surprise. In terms of value it is on the expensive side but you do get the service and food to match.
Great venue, great food and wonderful service
The steak was very good but the fish pie was poor (lacking flavour and stodgy)
An amazing experience. The staf are so nice and friendly and where always around to help and take care of you.
The food was lovley as well and the portions was over generous.
I'd defo revisit.
This was a fun dinner occasion which was enhanced by a lovely and funny waitress; she was great and she helped to make a great dinner with a friend better.
I loved the food, I chose a lamb dish. It was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful; my compliments to the chef. 🤷🏽♂️
We went early on the 3rd Jan - it was pretty quiet. The food was good and the service excellent. I'm sure on another day it wold have been busier and noisier.
Great staff and great vibe - we were incredibly well looked after on new years eve and nothing was too much trouble for the staff - great food and awesome wine list - top night ..... thanks!
Great time catching up with family
great location, nice vibe, good food, also not too expensive as you would expect, it could be worse.
Do not recommend for Christmas lunch. Absolutely no effort from the restaurant team to make it special. No table linen, just like having a meal in a pub. Very disappointing. A restaurant needs a big make over. Dirty run down toilets, dirty walls. ... I would avoid any any cost.
Great Christmas dinner and absolutely amazing service. We had the sweetest waiter who couldn’t do enough for us. Great cocktails and tasty food. Ambience was lovely and buzzy without feeling overcrowded
Another landmark meal on Christmas eve at the chop house. The Chateaubriand was to die for!
Great food. Table service was OK. The woman on reception was frosty and needs some customer service training. She’s the welcome and first impression. She lets the rest of the experience down.
The welcome and the table and bar service was fantastic.
Nothing was too much trouble and the food was veru good indeed!
A 5 star experience!
It’s was alright, the food tasted nice and the service was great but everything was overpriced in my opinion.
Also, it was my partners birthday and they said they’d do a nice desert for him but they did nothing so really underwhelming there.
Wonderful food and service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Super nice location
Always a good option. Given its close to Xmas, noise levels were higher, things running at full speed. Food good and my friends steak looked perfect. Like the quality service and attention to detail here, Ill be going back.
As always great food in a busy restaurant. The food was excellent and the table service very well done and professional. The Red Leg partridge was superb
Amazing food. Attentive staff. A little hot in the restaurant, but this must be hard to help when busy
Fabulous place to dine for a special occasion.
Staff very tentative and professional.
First time visitors, however would happily return there again and again. Food was excellent and the customer service from start to finish was exceptional
Absolutely wonderful and delicious food. Could not fault the restaurant at all. Prices are reasonable, especially for the steak and the staff were friendly and polite
One of the best Roasts I have had in London....and I have had plenty. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming and we could enjoy a conversation without having to raise our voices over neighbouring tables which is great. The staff was also a step above the rest and there was not a moment that we were in want of anything. Highly Recommend!
We found the food to be delicious, however the service let the restaurant down. We had one course per person and drinks and the bill came to £128. The service did not reflect this price. Upon arrival, there was no one to take our coats (although we noticed other people’s coats had been taken) when we asked a waiter about the sharing cuts of meat it seemed a big hassle for him to explain them (and even then he didn’t really explain it just pointed to the blackboard, no mention as to whether the sharing meats come with sides etc), when the waitress came over to ask if we wanted wine we opened our mouths to ask about recommended wines but before we knew it she said ‘wine, no’ and took the menus! My partner was also without a drink for half an hour and in the end went up to the bar to ask for one. The restaurant was also cold as the door was constantly left open (my partner shut it twice but then got fed up of having to do so). It really is a shame as the food was incredible and the ambience is nice but ruined by poor service. At the price of the meals the staff should be much more attentive and welcoming. (Must mention, one waiter in a suit did come and sort our wine out and he was much more professional and what we expected of all the waiter/waitress’).
