Scallop starter was the best I’ve ever eaten. The lamb and mint clapshot side is a must.

Fantastic food, fantastic service. Can’t fault our visit at all. The quality of the food and portion sizes are perfect. I put a little note in that it was a special occasion and they took extra care and brought out a little surprise. We will definitely back when we can!

Our first visit to Peace & Loaf .... reservation was for 5.30 p.m. (the restaurant did not open its doors until 5.30 p.m.) The restaurant was quiet at this time and the staff very attentive ....... the menu explanations were very precise ...... throughout the meal the service was excellent (absolutely excellent) however we found the food, whist very well prepared and presented somewhat "bitty" and really not to our taste ........ some things were absolutely delicious others left on wondering !!! ........ I must say it is the first tine I have tasted Fennel ice cream and Fennel wafers for desert. It was a pleasant experience, and we are pleased to have enjoyed the experience but sadly not one we will be repeating. As the restaurant became busier (toward 7.30) during the evening noise levels became uncomfortable. One very disappointing issue was the wine list prices ........ we selected a "nice" French Rose ...... nearly 4x what we pay from our wine merchant. Peace a & Loaf enjoys an excellent reputation locally and I am sure it is well earned but it was not ideal and failed in some aspects of our expectations.

I booked this for my Dads and Father In Laws birthdays. They do a Friday club lunch and my sister and I booked this for a treat. They loved it, seated downstairs as my Dad walks with a stick. Nice spaces between courses and food was fantastic. Nice when a plan works out.

Pretentious and too full of it's own importance. Half hour gap between ordering and receipt of canapes, starter arrived whilst eating canapes, and left on the table. Beef dripping butter was disgusting, basically lard to 'butter' bread. Starter was undistinguished, under seasoned. Long wait until amuse bouche arrived, served in what looked like a minature plastic washing basket. If this is meant to be ironic, then I did n't get it! Without addition of chips and extra vegetables, portion would have been too small. £4.95 for underseasoned sprouts, with stuffing that tasted of damp bread. Chips were best cooked item on the menu. Portion of lamb was small and I virtually had to fight with the condescending waiter to have it anything other than pink (raw). I know my own mind, and object to being told how I should enjoy my food by any chef or waiter. Wine (£10.00) for a 250 cl glass of fairly ordinary Merlot appeared vastly over-priced. Did not bother with a dessert, as did not want to be disappointed, and saw the small potions given to other diners. We do not object to paying for quality, but this was not it. This was not nearly as good as House of TIdes, which I suspect is what you are aping.

We were very impressed at the care the chef and the waiter took to make sure that the food intolerances one of our group suffers from did not prevent her enjoying her lunch just as much as the rest of us did. The attention to detail and the presentation were amazing and we will definitely return as soon as we can. Lovely place

Style over substance! Have been a few times before and enjoyed the food, if a bit pricey. This time I was disappointed. It was all a bit over the top. If you like eel mayonnaise and oyster, or squid with your duck, then this is your kind of place. For me these combinations have to marry, and for my palate they didn’t. The staff were lovely, but I think the chef forgets they have to navigate a staircase with squid ink balls balanced precariously on a pebble! Other gripes: the crispy crackling amuse bouche was chewy, the cashew nut curry overpowered the (beautifully tender) duck breast, then chocolate, popcorn and olives? To make these work they have to be perfect, and on this occasion they weren’t. I’m all for new tastes, but I felt I was in an early episode of Masterchef, before the contestant gets knocked out. £150.00 for two.

The booking was for my wife birthday. The were polite and courteous.
The food was from the taster menu. There was a lot of repetition of one ingredient in some of the dished. The pigeon was tough and the duck was average . The restaurant will have to make changes if it wished to achieve a start rating.
