Good value pub food in really pleasant dining area. Staff attentive and helpful.
We were surprised how good this place was;' not quite your usual village pub but rather a stylish and welcoming environment with a lovely coal fire and welcoming feel to it. The food was of a very high standard as was service.
One of the best steaks IV had. Truly outstanding meal
Everything lived up to our expectations: happy to bring our friends to one of our favourite places.
Dear Guest Thanks so much for your kind and positive feedback; there is no better recommendation that a 'personal' recommendation! We hope to welcome you back again soon. Vanessa C Guest Relations
Nice cosy bar area with friendly welcome. Nice table in quiet area by the window. Friendly staff and efficient service. Good choice on the menu and lunchtime deal which is great value. Had sandwiches which were lovely, nicely presented and generous fillings. Came with small salad and choice of chunky chips or skinny fries. Good value for money. Would recommend and if on the area again will definitely return. Thank you
Dear Guest - thanks so much for taking the time to review your Percy Arms visit. We look forward to your return when next in the area. Kindest regards The Percy Arms
really good food. shame about one member of bar staff who seemed more interested in chatting to the guys at the bar than serving beer.
Dear Guest - thanks for letting us know how much you enjoyed your food and sincere apologies if you believe you were not given the service your deserved from our bar team. We hope you'll return to visit us again. Vanessa C Guest Relations
The food was excellent, the service was good by friendly staff who looked after us - but - it took one and three quarter hours to serve a main and a dessert. We were warned that a big party was in but knowing that they should have adjusted the staff numbers accordingly.
Also a couple of the party have dietary problems and asked for specific things for their meal, the waitress diligently wrote it down but the kitchen ignored it and served the food exactly as described on the menu.
Overall though the food made up for the shortcomings.
Dear Guest Thanks for letting us know how much you enjoyed your food. We will certainly take on board your comments regarding service times. We value your custom and hope you'll be back to dine with us again. Vanessa C Guest Relations
Superb value - we return every year whilst on holiday and the food never disappoints
Dear Guest Thanks for letting us know we continue to impress on each and every visit; we look forward to your return. Vanessa C Guest Relations
The food was lovely, first time I have visited, homely pub with delicious food. Thank you
Thank you for your kind and positive feedback; it really is appreciated. We hope you'll be back to visit us again soon. Vanessa C Guest Relations
Excellent dog friendly pub. Large portions for the roast dinner.
Very nice country pub. The staff were helpful and friendly and the Balti pie and chunky chips was so good we came back the next day for more!
Lovely food, good service and if local would use again.
Sunday lunch was amazing, sirloin beef and all trimmings, we didn't have a starter, just as well as the main course was massive. Very tasty and the service was first class. Booking is advisable and we will be going again.
Dear Guest - thanks for your kind and positive feedback and delighted you enjoyed your Sunday Lunch. We look forward to your return. Vanessa C Guest Relations
An excellent village pub with good food and friendly service
Thank you for your kind words; really appreciated. Vanessa C Guest Relations
Attentive service on table, but both reception and checking out uninterested. Part of the menu (daily specials?) apparently not ment for us, they were removed from the menu board. Our neighbours, who arrived later, had them reinstated so out of stock was not the reason. Food quintessial English, so no complaints on the cooking, except that it was a little bit heavy for us continentals.
Dear Guest - thanks for your feedback and apologies regarding our specials. Unfortunately, items were not available to yourselves so we had to pull the menu; our delivery then arrived so we were able to reinstate the specials menu. We value your custom and hope you'll be back to stay with us again when next visiting our beautiful county. Vanessa C Guest Relations
book a table as it gets busy. Food is wonderful and portions are big too.
Thank you for your feedback. As mentioned, it is always recommended to advance book a table, but wherever possible, we'll try and accommodate those guests who have not booked, but the wait could be just a little longer! Vanessa C Guest Relations
We have eaten here on 3 consecutive nights. We have been made to feel welcome and valued. Friendly, efficient staff, great variety on the menu and reasonable prices....wish we had a few more nights to work our way through the menu!
Dear Guest Thank you for your great feedback; we are delighted you dined with us on 3 occasions and we hope to welcome you back when next in the area. Vanessa C Guest Relations
Had not been to Percy Arms for a while as food had been poor but have been told that the food had improved so we felt we should try again. I booked table for 5 and the table was ready when we arrived. A good choice on the menu with something for everyone. We only had main course and our meal arrived within a reasonable time. My salmon dish was tasty and my husband pork dish was good. 2 of our party had pie of the day which was although very good the pie crust was very well done and they where unable to eat this. We also had ice creams that where missing flavors and they did remove part from the bill.We did mention this to the waiter and when paying the bill and the gentleman did not seem overly concerned about it. The service was good but I am afraid that I do object to being called “doll” by the young waiter. We would go back again and hope they take on board this feedback.
Thank you for your feedback and glad you enjoyed your food. We will certainly raise items at our next training session and apologise if you were not addressed in an appropriate manner. Vanessa C Guest Relations
Good quality food and friendly staff. Clean and well set out .Website needs updating as some items on the menu are unavailable in the restaurant. More fresh fish dishes would be nice.
Dear Guest Thank you for letting us know the food we serve is of good quality and served by friendly staff. Our website is updated on a 'constant' basis, but we apologise if this was not up to the minute. We hope you'll be back to dine with us again. Vanessa C Guest Relations
2nd visit and it was lovely again.
Only criticism is that the pastry on the homemade pie was a little tough so I didn’t eat all of it.
Nice atmosphere. Child & dog friendly
The Percy arms is a great place to go for a drink or a meal, the portions are rather large , so if you have a small appetite especially at lunch time have a starter. The food is really good and looks good when it comes out of the kitchen.
The only dowside we had there was a lot of roudy people in the bar, so we couldn't hear each other very well and one of our group is hard of hearing, so he struggled.
But all in all a great place to go.
Our most recent visit to The Percy Arms, Chatton, was an evening event, taking two guests for their first visit. All four of us enjoyed the experience, the ambience, and the welcome. The food courses were uniformly excellent, and the service could not be faulted.
The prices were very reasonable, though the Wine list was somewhat limited.
We would be very happy to recommend this venue, and to visit again.
We have eaten here many times and always enjoyed it, so we hope our most recent experience was just a bad night. From the minute we arrived, the atmosphere was unfriendly and we wish we had acted on our inclination not to stay. My husband was spoken to abruptly at the bar when he tried to change the table, and was then ignored for ages by the two staff members at the bar. The staff member who took our food order was rude and brusque. A request later on to find out if it were possible for one of our party to have hot chocolate went unanswered. I wouldn't recommend this pub based on this experience, but would recommend it based on previous visits, which were fine. If we have a similarly unpleasant time on our next visit, we won't be going again.
Very relaxed atmosphere. Very good service. Nice beers.
Good food at a reasonable price. Service slow. Table booked for 7pm it was 7.45 before our first course arrived
Lovely meal.table was ready when we arrived. Friendly quick service. Prawn cocktail starter was ok not keen on the pepper it had hiding.amongst the lettuce. Scampi was lovely and the pavlova with lime curd was a taste sensation.
This was our 2nd visit and both times the good was outstanding. The staff were friendly and most helpful. The disabled facilities were superb.
It is not often you look at a menu and could happily choose anything from it. This was one of those rare occasions. Will definitely return to sample the rest of the menu:)
Friendly but somewhat chaotic. Service was friendly but poor. Three times I had to go to ask for things we needed, eg drinks!
Food was ok Cottage pie was good but mezzo starter was amateurish.
The service was appalling and took over an hour before the main course arrived despite being a nearly empty pub. Really grumpy people serving but I understand the Percy Arms has now been sold after years of going downhill so I suppose it makes sense. The waitress had forgotten to put all three glasses of wine on the bill so I kindly pointed this out when I paid the bill - rather than thanking me or saying how nice it was we had prompted them, she simply through a new receipt at me and never even thanked us or acknowledged it. Don’t know why I bothered! Interestingly their glasses of supposedly large wine were shorter measures than the large glasses in another nearby pub.
Its all hood but slow on service and when questioned they just say they are busy.
A very pleasant atmosphere, good food served by friendly staff, a great range of beers and all at a reasonable price.
Appalling service, just two staff to run the bar and restaurant.
The food was pleasant as were the staff but the service was exceptionally slow
Lovely evening with friends , great food and lovely menu - would definitely book again
We were a family of 5 including a 10 year old.
There was a very good menu and the food was of a good standard.
The kids menu was also good so that was very important to us.
We would certainly book there again if we were in the area
He food was out of this world and if I was back in this area myself and my family would certainly be making a beeline for this place. Only drawback was service was a bit intermittent but still very enjoyable.
The pub looked lovely online so we booked a table, but we were seriously disappointed and would definitely not recommend! Within a couple of minutes of sitting down at our table we overheard the two ladies on the table next to us complaining about the food, the manager came and sat down with them and she apologised for their bad experience. We waited 50 minutes for our starters during which time we could hear the manager complaining (to locals who were in there drinking) about how everyone has been complaining about their food due to serious mistakes by the chef. This did not give us hope! Our starters were nice, but the bread was really dry and came with no butter. Then when our mains arrived that’s where the problems were. My Mum got chunky chips instead of fries, a steak which was inedible & onion rings that weren’t even cooked. My Dad ordered the pie of the day with mash and when it arrived he didn’t have any mash (just pie & vegetables), so he asked the waitress who said she’d get him some then later brought some mash saying “the chef said you can keep the chips on us” - but he hadn’t been given any chips, not sure why the chef thought he’d cooked extra chips & made out he was doing us a favour. Myself and my partner ordered the one vegetarian option available which was basically just halloumi and a lot of onion in a watery sauce, it wasn’t great. The young waitress kept apologising and was seriously embarrassed, frankly we felt really bad for her as she told us she was brand new to the job. The manager came over and apologised about the chip mix up and complained about the chef, apparently every table had complained about their food all evening - so why did she continue to let people order when she knew there were so many problems? She should’ve sent the chef home & closed the kitchen! Seriously disappointed and will not be returning or recommending! They need to make some major changes there if they want to keep customers!
We booked here as it had fantastic reviews, however it appears there has been a change in staff recently and it has had a bad effect on quality and service.
Despite book a table in the restaurant we ended up eating sat on a sofa in the bar.
Thee mixed seafood starter was badly cooked, badly presented and was sent back as inedible (calamari was chewy, whitebait were overcooked and limp, prawns were greasy, bread had no butter and had started to go crispy...)
The mains weren't much better, the burger was overcooked, dry and crumbly, the chunky chips were frozen fries served warm and soggy, the lamb was not prepared well and was mainly gristle and the minted potatoes weren't minted but we're precooked and reheated, and the had been cooked so long ago they had started to turn.
Avoid this place if you can.
Bit of a shortage of experienced staff caused quite a bit of confusion but they were really friendly
