It was a very pleasant experience. Beautifully decorated, food were tasty, price ok and service was good. Will go back again. Will recommend to friends and families.
Our experience at Periyali was very nice overall. Service was kind, knowledgable, and attentive. Nice Greek red wine options by the glass. For the most part, the food was good and fresh. Our only nit-picks would be that many appetizers were served with garlic sauce, which was delicious but became a little monotonous. We also wanted to love the spanakopita, kolokithokeftedes, and tiropita platter, but we found the kolokithokeftedes to be overly greasy and the spanakopita and tiropita to be a bit lacking in flavor. We'd suggest going elsewhere in the city for these appetizers and trying something else from Periyali's menu instead.
Excellent! Will definitely return.
I've been here twice, and both times have loved it. Periyali has an excellent menu with amazing flavors. I've had the grilled octopus, which is phenomenal, the filet mignon kabob (fantastic!), the stuffed grape leaves (heavenly!) and the baklava (perfection!). I recommend everything I mention here. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere is classy yet cozy. An absolute gem!
This mainstay of NYC Greek cuisine is worth a visit if you want an elegant and authentic food Greek experience. The menu is good. As a Greek, I loved that the menu items were written in English but were the actual Greek language translation. The dip appetizers were excellent although larger dollops would have been appreciated. The Greek salad actually was perfect -- the feta some of the best I've had -- and tomatoes that tasted as if they were shipped from Greece. The lamb shank was massive and perfect, the souvlakis also great, and the veal delicious. I'd skip desserts...the baklava was mediocre and the revani not syruppy enough. Not rushed Saturday night service. Do wish the online menu had pricing and advised us that prix fixe menu NOT available on Saturday nights. Also great was mastiha cocktail and the Greek wines. Keeping up the great work after all these years!
Delicious food beautifully presented
Everything was superb
The food at Periyali is reliably fresh, well-prepared, and quite good. We especially enjoy the octopus; our sea bass was nicely served in a simple lemon sauce. Our main complaint was: we noted on their website an offer of a Prix Fixe dinner. I called to confirm that this was available on our reserved night (Sunday). When we were offered menus, this Prix Fixe dinner was not included. It took an unpleasant discussion with the manager to insist that it be offered since I had confirmed over the telephone this exact point. Perhaps he checked their own website to confirm. Things such as this spoil an otherwise pleasant night out. Good food, though!
loved our dinner (not our first time--became a fan more than 20 years ago)
we especially appreciated that it was not noisy
Overall a very pleasant experience. The food and service were excellent. Although initially the noise level was manageable, it became "energetic" when a large group was seated next to us. This took away from the entire experience and hastened our departure. Despite this, I would definitely return.
I have been going to Periyali since 1996, and much more recently. It's just fantastic. Husband always has the octopus. I always have the quail with spinach mushrooms and feta. Guests have whatever - moussaka, grilled branzino - and there is never an unhappy person at the table. Cannot get enough of this place. Lovely staff too.
Lovely. Good food. Warm professional service.
The staff was helpful and the food was good
certainly not based on our Restaurant week dinner. will not be back
Food was very good, service excellent.
Venue very nice/comfortable.
NYC Restaurant Week Lunch!
Overall very nice Greek restaurant with excellent atmosphere and very good . Only complaint -- being banished to Siberia in an otherwise fairly empty restaurant until asked to be moved. Front area is very pretty. I'd request it next time.
Everything was top notch. From the drinks to the appetizers, dinner, and dessert. It was all prepared very well and quite delicious.
Excellent food and service. I was surprised that I was not offered the lunch price fixe menu.
One of the best restaurant in nyc! Great food, great service.
Wonderful Greek cuisine with an emphasis on fish. Service among the best in the city. But most welcome is the quiet ambiance. Great place for dinner conversation...... You can hear everyone at your table and yet adjacent tables are silent! Simply wonderful dining experience
Always a great meal and great service!
After 33 years it is amazing that Periyali is as good as ever. It has not lost its edge. What a joy to dine at a quiet, comfortable, attractive restaurant with professional, welcoming hospitality.
The service was outstanding, and I want to thank my server for remembering it was my friend's birthday! He brought out dessert with a candle in it. I had just clicked on "birthday" when I made my reservation. How nice of him!! Food was great!!
From the extremely elegant service, to the very extensive list of excellent cocktails, to the elegant, charming but modern decor this restaurant is a rare gem! Highly recommended also for people like us that stay on a paleo or almost paleo healthy diet.
Such a disappointing dinner with poor, amateurish service and communication not expected at a restaurant that charges that high of prices.
Drink orders taken after appetizer order. Soup arriving within 2 minutes before menus even removed. Shared appetizers arriving without share plates and then a scramble to get some. Drinks arriving after appetizers. Main course order taken in parts. Kitchen ran out of most of its fish before even 9pm on a Saturday. Main courses arriving before appetizers are cleared. Mess. Food was not too bad though.
The server and manager were apologetic and sent a dessert platter, etc. But that point...
Excellent food, atmosphere excellent. The service was also wonderful
Service was dismal. Wine selection very poor.
This may be the best Greek in NYC...always impressed with the food and the service...all of my guests were very impressed!
A great place for people who actually want to speak to each other and be heard and enjoy a good meal along with reasonable prices.
Loved the experience. Great service and fresh fish. Only slightly disappointed in overuse of olive oil on fish
Wonderful place fantastic food and service
Decent food, ok but not warm service, but wine prices - by glass and bottle - are absurd for mediocre wine. Cheapest is $65. All food prices up too. Seems to be poorly managed. Such a different experience a year ago.
The food and service were wonderful and what made it special was the noise level. It was quiet, which was such a treat. The prix fix menu is a good value. My group enjoyed the spanakopita, beet salad, salmon in phyllo and moussaka.
Service was attentive but not overbearing. Food was outstanding. The dipping sauces and pita were perfect. Fish done to perfection
The meatball appetizer dish was likely nuked in the microwave just before it was served. The middle of each meatball was cold while the gravy was scorching hot. The souvlaki entre was served swimming in a bed of couscous doused with gravy, while the moussaka, clearly heated up many times throughout the day was such a disappointment. We went to this restaurant based on the reviews on OpenTable. Sadly, it did not live up to expectations. A reviewer mentioned that the restaurant specializes in modern Greek; I think it's more confused than modern. Service was shockingly bad given its "fine dining" category.
Great food as always and service is professional.
We’ve been coming here for many, many years and have always had a perfect dining experience. This time we were with family and out of town friends. The food was fabulous. But our waitress was terrible. She had an attitude from the first encounter with our group. She didn’t offer drinks until we asked. She seemed to have a problem with any request we made and had a scowl on her face the entire time.
We will think twice about returning.
