Petersham Nurseries Cafe
It is a place of calm, away from the bustle of London, that respects and is in tune with nature and positive living.
The Boglione family, who own the nurseries and live in the adjoining Petersham House are rooted to their blend of British and Italian culture which remains at the heart of the business and is reflected in the style of the food that is served. Petersham Nurseries Café is inspired by what is growing in our kitchen garden and by the produce supplied to us by our sister company, Haye Farm.
Whilst maintaining their passion for simplicity, flora, fauna and responsibly sourced produce they have created an unparalleled setting just outside of central London.

I have dined here before and had a fantastic meal. I am sorry PN but this time we were very disappointed. If you are going to charge £27 for fish, please cook it properly! While food looked pretty the favour was just not there. Also charging £15 for a glass of house red! We had a late booking and were hurried the whole way though. Our waiter was useless, he was more bothered at looking at his reflection rather than actually remembering orders.
Wonderful meal with great service. A great way to celebrate our anniversary.
Lovely meal at Petersham Nurseries - delicious food and excellent service.
Excellent for a celebration ( my husbands birthday), both enjoyed it immensely. But outside our price range for everyday dining.
if Money is no object then you will probably enjoy the Petersham for it fun location in an upmarket greenhouse and it’s buzzy atmosphere. And you probably won’t mind the shambolic and impersonal service or hit and miss food. In our case, value for money is important when we are paying £170 for a two course lunch and there are other places locally , such as the Glasshouse or La Trompette, which deliver what you would expect at that price level. Although our pasta starter was delicious, the main course lamb was a sinewy cut that tasted odd. When we were asked (as we were on three separate occasions) whether our meal was going well, we mentioned this each time. Sad then that no effort at all was made to acknowledge or remedy other than a vague promise to ‘tell the kitchen’. We were surprised when, having told one waiter we were not altogether happy, he came back again 15 minutes later to ask whether we were enjoying our meal, clearly on autopilot. We were served by so many different and hurried waiters that the whole experience felt impersonal, and our table on the central aisle gave a ringside view of the continual rush up and down to the kitchen. It’s quite a feat to combine so many waiters with such impersonal service. And wine buckets at a distance only work if someone bothers to check whether your glasses are empty or not. Nor did we appreciate the wine waiter pointing us in the direction of a £49 bottle of wine when we had asked for something that was not too expensive ( although to be fair the entire list had only 4 bottles under £40). Go elsewhere for a special occasion.
A warm September day, we walked in the sun along the river from Richmond station, had an hour to gaze and shop before lunch.
Zucchini Fritti not to be missed, followed by two starters, then greengage tart which I've just tried to recreate at home.
Perfect service, the right amount of buzz under a flowering orange bougainvillea.
Very very happy making. Thank you.
Excellent food and service, weather was lovely and sunny which helped. We celebrated a friends special birthday
Dissapointed in the food... extortionate prices for very average food... have had lunches here in the cafe many times and wanted to come to the restaurant... prefer the salads and quiches in the cafe to be honest...
Great setting (we were in the garden), excellent food.
Quality of the food and wine was the stand out. Full of flavour and you could taste the quality of the ingredients. Highly recommend even though it is a bit pricey.
We always love going there. It's one of my favourite places in the world!
Nice surroundings being in the greenhouse, and we had a pleasant waiter, but the food was overpriced for what it was.
Lovely meal in a beautiful location. Great service.
A rare treat, outstanding food coupled with high end quality of service. The setting is certainly different but executed in a professional way. The freshest ingredients transform what could be simple dishes into lunch fit for the most special of occasions
Very nice ambience. Food good, but too expensive and portions a little light
We had a lovely lunch at Petersham Nurseries. Wonderful ambience and the service was impeccable. However, the food was not particularly special and very expensive. We will go there again but for the setting rather than the food.
Excellent food and service, certainly worth walking from Richmond across the fields!
Overall it was lovely setting, a shame the pork main that 2 out of 4 of us had was tough with both meals and a little undercooked so the fat and crackling was not edible. It was a special occasion for a friend and a candle was placed into her desert which was a nice touch. All other meals and starters were great and very tasty. It would be nice to have your bottle of wine at the table in the future so we do not have to ask to be topped up every time.
It was not my best visit to Petersham Nursery. My pork main was very fatty and the crackling was soft. The pudding that the 3 of us ordered was then not available after a 15 minute wait. Lastly I was served caffeinated coffee, after ordering a decaf. This was a problem as I haven’t had caffeine for years and then felt as though I was drunk. Having said all this, the waitress was lovely and in training , so all was forgiven. It has a great atmosphere and is dog friendly which is a big bonus. I’ve been a few times before and had a much better eating experience. I feel as though the starters and puddings are the high light and the mains are more average.
Beautiful place and lovely food. Expensive but definitely worth it for the quality food. Only the chicken wasn’t as great as the other stuff but still good.
I had not visited the Petersham Nursery to dine for many years & was delighted how it had grown in style with excellent & attractive well turned out staff who were also attentive to all requirements. I will most certainly visit again even though the wine list was a tad expensive.
A great place for a special occasion. Would highly recommend to friends and family
Yeah fine. Don’t really understand the fuss. I have to admit I arrived in a bad mood because they wouldn’t let me change my booking to the teashop without charging me. But it was fine. I was disappointed with my parmigiana. It was fine but not really worth £23! For 4 small slices of Aubergine with cheese and tomato. None of the Italian charm and taste.
Often with these places you pay for the ambience. It was fine. The loos were across a muddy field - I think the idea is country in town, but Daylesford do that SO SO SO much better.
Should you go? It’s fine! I’m not raving about it and really don’t get the “up it’s own #%*^” attitude. Will I recommend to my friends? No. We’re better off going to Daylesford. This feels like a me too.....light.
One of my favourite places - amazing food knowledgable staff - a wonderful day
Lovely restaurant in a beautiful setting. Excellent, friendly service. I have been several times and will continue to go.
Petersham Nurseries is a truly unique experience - delicious and unusual dishes in a lovely informal yet classy surrounding with fine linen napkins etc. I would recommend it to friends and look forward to visiting again. And with the added bonus of the nurseries and the shop.
We had only one dish which didn’t live up to expectations.
All the other dishes were beautiful, seasonal, interesting and delicious.
The manager checked with us and did not charge us for the one dish we didn’t enjoy.
Delightful venue, menu and excellent service
Just lovely in every way... the atmosphere, service and setting was excellent, the food sublime, very fitting for a special occasion.
Our first trip to Richmond. What a treat. Everything was a delight.
The food was fantastic and my two guests said overall it was probably the best meal they had ever had
I have no hesitation in recommending Petersham to all my friends
I came with my couple and we were place behind a family table with children. That is not fair because of the noise.
A beautiful afternoon in the garden - the food was as ever simple fresh and delicious - the waiter was incredibly knowledgable and we had a very happy time.
I have been so looking forward to a special birthday lunch here. Unfortunately, we were disappointed.
Service was timid, unhelpful & nowhere near standard expected at such an established place (and high prices).
Food quality is excellent, but lots of other places are nowadays too. Very small and delicate, albeit delicious portions, at really high prices. Not good value.
Recently ate at River Cafe & Dairy, who both surpassed Petersham on all fronts.
Setting is incredible & so unique however - stunning environment for lunch.
Beautiful setting with creative, seasonal food. Absolutely loved the setting and cant wait to return!
Amazing experience. Loved everything about the place!!
But very expensive, especially the wine list
A fantastic treat
Totally fabulous! Can't fault. So beautiful. Service amazing.
Amazing! The food, the plants, the space! Divine
This is the most beautiful place for lunch!
The food is delicious and the staff very friendly and helpful.
Love love it!
