Petersham Nurseries Cafe
It is a place of calm, away from the bustle of London, that respects and is in tune with nature and positive living.
The Boglione family, who own the nurseries and live in the adjoining Petersham House are rooted to their blend of British and Italian culture which remains at the heart of the business and is reflected in the style of the food that is served. Petersham Nurseries Café is inspired by what is growing in our kitchen garden and by the produce supplied to us by our sister company, Haye Farm.
Whilst maintaining their passion for simplicity, flora, fauna and responsibly sourced produce they have created an unparalleled setting just outside of central London.
Sat, Sun 12:00–15:30
Such a cool and unique place. Came here for our first festive occasion and it didn’t disappoint. Upon arrival staff were very attentive without being too rushed or pushy. The atmosphere was cosy and busy but not too loud that you couldn’t have a decent conversation. Food was really good and in keeping with the style of the place. We are planning to come again.
Beautiful Quicky restaurant down a muddy rutted lane ... so don’t wear smart shoes !!!
Lovely food if a little pricey...our waitress was lovely she made up for the stoney faced lady who greeted us on arrival ....not a good start . Overall a pleasant lunch ...would love to give 5 stars for quirkiness but the initial greeting was poor and outside toilets in the pouring rain took the shine off our lunch .
Terrible service ruined good but expensive food and beautiful surroundings. We waited 20mins after being seated for anyone to offer us water, drinks, take our order. The same when it came to the bill - 20 mins to attract anyone's attention. In fact we were told to 'wait a minute' as if we were a member of staff when we did manage to ask a waiter for the bill. If I'm paying £90 for lunch for two I don't expect to be treated as if the staff are doing me a favour. Thoroughly unapologetic bordering on rude.
Such a shame as otherwise it would have been a lovely experience.
Service was vey very slow but the food was delicious when it finally got there. It’s very atmospheric but v noisy. If you’re after intimate ask for a table in a corner somewhere . We were 4 but offered a table for 6 We realised when we sat down that we could not hear each other It was not a problem for the staff who reseated is immediately and with good grace.
The surroundings, stunning flowers, decorations and lighting create a wonderful dining experience and somewhere you would happily stay for hours! The post shopping is definitely the finest holly on top of the most delicious Christmas pud! A definite destination delight!
We had a lovely time at the café - service was lovely and we enjoyed so much the Christmas feeling
Great food in a wonderful setting. If you like plants, this is a place you must check out! Now in advent, it is great to get into the festive mood :D
Trading off its reputation? Had stuffed squid - stuffing was tasteless and stodgy. Left on my plate, waitress was clearing without making any comment as to why I had left. I told her that I found it tasteless, and she did not seem very interested. No real apology and no reduction on the bill.
One of the other members of the party had risotto as starter - found it lacking in flavour/ seasoning.
Given the prices charged for both dishes, should be better executed. Disappointing.....
Whilst the surroundings are beautiful the food was dreadful. I had the polenta which was simply like eating smooth porridge. A bowl of slop for a small fortune. The bread and oil was delicious though but not enough to make up for the uncomfortable seat, the high price and lacklustre service.
I won’t be returning
Fab lunch had the Festive menu excellent value and superb selection ....food delicious.
If you have this menu make sure you don’t eat much before.
Wines are a little over priced but overall an enjoyable experience!
Loved our lunch. Fabulous food in a gorgeous setting. Lovely and relaxed ambience.
Attentive and polite staff.
Some minor quibbles on the service front
Had to ask for wine list
Had to ask for condiments
Quite expensive, £380 for four people for lunch. (Did include 3 courses, beer, wine and coffee).
Hugely disappointing. We were really looking forward to our lunch at Petersham Nurseries. The ambience is lovely but the service and food were extremely poor and the prices are eye wateringly high for such poor quality, luke warm food. Avoid.
Was wonderful - could not do enough for us. Great food and we were not rushed at all. We had preordered a birthday cake and it was delicious.
Outstanding food and services! Gorgeous place with delicious dishes made with organic ingredients. Definitely a place to visit every few weeks
Beautiful setting and decor, wonderful attentive and staff. Sadly I didn’t feel the quality of the food warrants the high prices but you could argue you’re paying for the ambiance. Worthwhile a visit for sure. Probably not twice though.
A very long wait between starter and main course, otherwise perfect
Such a beautiful place and the food was incredible however £27.50 for roast chicken does seem a little extreme. Although it was gorgeous, mash the creamiest ever and the chicken moist with perfectly crisp skin it does feel like I’ve been robbed of my money considering the portion was quite small too. I was treating my sister for her 21st, we shared a delicious starter and a gorgeous pudding because I dread to think how much more the bill would of been if we’d of had our own rather than share. We were offered 2x glasses of rose prosseco also which we did accept and it was absolutely beautiful but when looking at the menu £9.50 each?! You could buy 2 whole bottles for that price. Would go back but maybe not for dinner or lunch. Would love to go for coffee and cake instead!
Still a great spot though a bit cold on a late autumn afternoon. Not patch on what it was. Very ordinary food, small portions, hugely overpriced. 28 quid for a skinny pork chop and half a carrot is daylight robbery.
Lovely location and delicious menu filled with fresh produce!
We complained to the manager on the day. Quality of dishes for main course did not match the prices and too much salt used in two of the dishes [4 diners]. Staff handled the complaint /feedback very well and gave a significant discount. A wow factor is needed at their prices and the chef needs to up his or her game.
Wonderful experience. I would definitely go again.
Superb food, lovely surroundings and impeccable service. Great quality all round but you pay for it.
My dad's favourite place...he died aged 84 earlier this year , so we had big family lunch party to celebrate what would have been his 85th birthday...utterly perfect in so many waysX
Great meal. Very relaxed but nice to get starters quickly. Very nice not to be rushed through our meal as happens in so many other London restaurants. Food was excellent. The chocolate bean pudding never fails to impress even though this time presentation was a little lacking. Atmosphere was buzzing but not noisy. Love the place.
Delicious food and great ambience. Had a nice girly late lunch after a walk in Richmond Park - it was perfect! The only course I didn’t love was the chocolate olive oil moose - there was too much oil. But otherwise lovely.
A real hidden gem. A gorgeous location and a special treat for any occasion. Amazing food, wine and ambience. A firm favourite!
Amazing time here for a weekday lunch to celebrate a life milestone with friends. This place went to every effort to make it a special day for me and my friends. Deserves an outstanding rating.
Great ambiance. Will be back
I HAD EATEN AT THEIR PLACE IN RICHMOND THE OTHER DAY, AND DECIDED TO TRY THE COVENT GARDEN BRANCH. WONDERFUL. HAD THE SALAD— INCREDIBLY FRESH, PERFECTLY— AND LIGHTLY-DRESSED AND THEN THE LASAGNETTE WITH MUSHROOMS. PERFECT, AND SO INTENSLY TASTY. WONDERFUL INGREDIENTS—-MAKING THE MEAL MEMORABLE FOR THE FOOD ALONE (NOT SO EASY IN THIS DAY AND AGE...)
Great stuff, overpriced basic food. A very average 4 Tomatoes and a piece of hake for £29.
As always the food was wonderful but I think we will avoid a Sunday lunchtime in future as it was way too busy and loud. The food took a long time to arrive just simply because there were so many people , it was still great, the surroundings are lovely and the staff attentive and friendly. We will of course continue to go and enjoy the lovely Petersham but during the week !
A fantastic venue for mother-in-laws birthday - the whole meal was delicious with each dish pleasing on so many levels. It is not inexpensive and requires considerable advance booking but so worth it. Friendly and helpful waitstaff. We went for lunch on Saturday and every table was full with multiple seatings, we were not rushed in the slightest. The rose petal prosecco was a wonderful start to the meal. We were too full for dessert but they were very tempting!
Starter was good, but main meal was bad and the dessert passable. I preferred a mackerel for main meal and it was tiny. My partner ordered grouse and it was poorly cooked. Over done in some places and raw in others. Also very poorly presented.
Heard a lot about the place and it exceeded expectations. Fabulous food, superb service and excellent setting.
Great food, amazing location- good for a special event. Pricey but worth it.
I booked from Australia to visit! Sadly I was disappointed. The main meal (chicken) was superbly cooked and delicious but served on a cold plate so it was Luke warm when it arrived. The service was slow. We waited 15 mins to be served. The deserts were below par and not fitting of your restaurant. A tart with a soggy tasteless base and characterless filling. The insipid pale blob of chocolate mouse served with ice cream looked terrible and tasted it. It needed far more chocolate and to be served in a glass to look remotely palatable. The texture was grainy and almost gluey. So sorry to give you a poor review I really wanted to enjoy it.
one of the best meals I have eaten for ages, innovative menu and absolutely delicious
Fab food and service. Beautiful, unusual setting. Lovely atmosphere. Special place to have lunch.
It was my friends bday and booked lunch there on a Tuesday! It was beautiful warm sunny weather and we had the best time! The service was amazing and the food was fantastic! I could not recommend this place more and perfect for a special occasion if you want to impress someone! If you want to go definitely try a weekday! Weekends are so packed and the experience is not the same!
I have dined here before and had a fantastic meal. I am sorry PN but this time we were very disappointed. If you are going to charge £27 for fish, please cook it properly! While food looked pretty the favour was just not there. Also charging £15 for a glass of house red! We had a late booking and were hurried the whole way though. Our waiter was useless, he was more bothered at looking at his reflection rather than actually remembering orders.
