Petersham Nurseries Cafe
It is a place of calm, away from the bustle of London, that respects and is in tune with nature and positive living.
The Boglione family, who own the nurseries and live in the adjoining Petersham House are rooted to their blend of British and Italian culture which remains at the heart of the business and is reflected in the style of the food that is served. Petersham Nurseries Café is inspired by what is growing in our kitchen garden and by the produce supplied to us by our sister company, Haye Farm.
Whilst maintaining their passion for simplicity, flora, fauna and responsibly sourced produce they have created an unparalleled setting just outside of central London.

So what should I expect a lunch for two that cost close to £180 to deliver? Impeccable service, extraordinary and memorable food and a good environment and atmosphere is about it. Get all those things right and you might, just might justify such a huge outlay at lunchtime. Sadly the Petersham delivered on only the atmosphere. The service was shockingly bad - can there be any excuse for 25mins to go by with no attention from anybody. Our exclusion only ended because we demanded it did of one of many clueless waiters who buzzed about with no apparent responsibility for our table. Other diners too were clearly struggling to be waited on with efficiency. The food was fine, but not exceptional, with no evidence of exceptional talent at work. The wine list was lengthy and exorbitant. I spent a month touring Italy last year and nothing about my experience there suggests to me that it is remotely necessary to spend vast amounts of money to drink good wine. In the end the restaurants failure to deliver value for money leaves me with a bitter taste. It simply isn't alright to charge this much for so little.
Arranged lunch here for a special occasion after many years of meaning to come here, and I’m very glad that I did.
The food was great, with the freshness of the ingredients speaking for themselves. A buffalo mozzarella and tomato starter isn’t something I would write about, but I ordered this and it was delicious! That’s just one example!
Our server was lovely and engaging too (thank you Kate!)
Drinks wise, we ordered the Sparkling Elderflower, which was one of the best ones I’ve tried.
Will happily come back again.
Petersham Nurseries never fails to impress! Beautiful surroundings, fabulous food and excellent service. Looking forward to our next visit.
It was our first visit to Petersham Nurseries and it met our expectation in every way. The ambience is great and food is delicious. We look forward to coming back.
Beautiful place, very good food, good service.
I recommend to everyone who wants spending lovely time.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience of dining at Peterham for the second time. The outdoor dining was just as beautiful as my previous dining which was inside. Food, rose from Italy, organic beer all excellent. Have recommended Petersham to many friends travelling from New Zealand to the Uk. Always special dining at Petersham. Thank you. Cheers Simone
Eye wateringly expensive for what it is. Lovely spot but 10 min queue for the loo and food was OK but not exceptional.
Beautiful restaurant (sat outside). Service was good but food was pretty average and overpriced for what it was. Lovely setting for a date or special occasion. Lunchtime on a sunny day is ideal.
over priced ordinary food, small portions and and obsequious service in lovely setting. felt the staff over did the "tell us if anything isn't right" to avoid bad reviews....
We had the most over attentive and irritating waiter who quite frankly spoiled our meal
very nice place to eat for a tourist as it can be combined with a visit at Richmond's park!
A thoroughly enjoyable place to spend an afternoon enjoying good food and good wine, surrounded by flowers and fairy lights, all topped off with and a thunder and lightening show - what a treat!
Really good food and excellent service. I have annoying dietary requirements and the staff knew exactly what I could eat off the menu without needing to consult with anyone. They totally put me at my ease and were able to adjust some of the dishes to suit me.
Great food, very friendly and efficient service.
Lunch was served in the greenhouse area (rather than the inside space) due to the warmer weather which was a good idea, except for the fact that the entire ground was wet and muddy! Not a good experience for anyone (including my wife) wearing nice shoes.
The best time every time ! Always exceeds my expectations. When we bring guests they are amazed.
Thank you for one more great afternoon.
Absolutely fabulous! A really unique, eclectic experience, with great good & service!
Excellent service and food was beautiful and tasty !
I was asked for my credit card just to make a reservation which I never encountered anywhere else before. We asked for the vegetable dish for an appetiser which was a great disappointment . Just a few pieces of raw vegetables on a large plate, no sauce to dip them into. The main dish was luke warm . We were a party of 3 and had a 3 course meal plus one bottle of white wine and 2 more glasses of white wine and the bill was 240£. Quite expensive I thought.
A delicious lunch in the outside restaurant. The setting is exquisite as you feel you are in an English Country garden. Lovely to browse the retail offering & plant centre. Expensive merchandise but very tempting
This truly is an amazing place. There are two separate eateries in this romantic plant nursery. I had lunch in the restaurant. This is set in one of their old and huge greenhouses decked with bougainvillea and fragrant jasmine. Vases and urns full of flowers are everywhere with glass jars of peonies on the white clothed tables. The food was faultless as was the service. The wine list I found extensive and expensive. Dining in this romantic, floral decked atmosphere surrounded by unusual and beautiful plants was a delight. Petersham Nursery is situated down a narrow alley in a old historic village. There is limited parking and access is not easy, but worth the hassle.
Absolutely wonderful time had at Petersham Nuseries for my birthday. Beautiful food, lovely wine, impeccable friendly service. Thank you
Very good service, extremely caring.
It’s a hidden gem. Overall we had an amazing time with my husband - food was delicious, beautiful surroundings and a great service. There was no better way to spend our lunch together on a sunny day.
It was out first visit to the Cafe in Richmond. My husband and I booked our lunch there the day before. On the way there we enjoyed a nice walk from Richmond station, alongside a river and through the park. Once we arrived it looked exactly like on the stunning images I found on Instagram. We were one of the first people to arrive as the cafe opens at noon. Our waiter was amusing and helpful from the start till the end. We ordered bruschettas with smashed peas for an appetiser and chick peas with courgette and spinach for a main. Both portions weren’t too big but tasted great. Moreover the organic beer was very refreshing and tasted great. Afterwards we explored the teahouse and the shop - the plants and rustic look were fantastic. On the way out it didn’t feel like we were in London at all - cows were out on the farm plus lovely smell of grass.
I’d recommend this place to everyone and we will definitely be back.
Beautiful setting, wonderful ambience, great service, delicious food and wine. Had a wonderful celebrating a friend’s special birthday.....was perfect!
had a fantastic time, such a beautiful spot, delicious food, wine and great service. Will return time and time again.
We arrived to a warm and friendly reception. We were taken to our booked table and were treated wonderfully throughout the couple of hours we were there. Our Waitress was great - easy to talk with, very informed and helpful, and had a good sense of humour.
All in all a lovely experience which we are all eager to repeat !!
Relaxed and welcoming staff. Good table location in outdoor dining area on an extremely hot day. Discrete and efficient service made our lunch very enjoyable. Food delicious.
Fab venue and yummy food! I personally felt good value as such an amazing setting, go on a sunny day as makes the experience so much better!
Hidden gem in Richmond! The setting is simply spectacular and the food and service do not disappoint either. A treat for the eyes and palate.
The place is always magic, I would go back there every day.
The food was good and our waiter was very competent and kind.
Great experience despite the terrible weather, it gets perfect when it's sunny!
I have a wonderful time until
A set of parents decided to change their son’s nappy in the restaurant as my friend and I was also close by to the corner. I didn’t really take any notice until the father showed off his son’s dirty nappy to one of his friends who was in their party of 18 guests and unfortunately I was in full view of this. Just say good job I had finished my meal. I definitely didn’t want dessert. I did report this to the manager and she did have a word to them. I’m just amazed that they would do this in such a beautiful restaurant with so many people in there.
Took a while to speak to someone to even get seated for our reservation, prices would have been okay if the food was better. Extremely small portions and not great cookery. Lovely place but nothing about the meal/service reflected that. Michelin are slipping with their guidlines for ratings.
Wonderful food and ambiance. Our Waitress was very nice. However, in general the service staff were not attentive enough, or perhaps there were too few. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine which was kept cold too far away from us to be able to pour ourselves. Due to the fact we were often without any service staff in our vicinity it meant our glasses kept being left empty whilst we were eating. This was disappointing given the level Petersham Nurseries pitches itself at. We are used to more attentive service; not having to keep looking around for our glasses to be refilled. Everything else was great though and we will visit again.
Brilliant environment and food, also very close to Richmond park. I took my parents there and had a fantastic lunch, very pleasant experience. Will definitely go there again!
Lovely meal in a beautiful setting. We were there with young babies and the staff were very accommodating.
It was a lovely atmosphere, we were not pleased with the service however. The waiter knew nothing of the menu, and I felt like the fish was quite flavorless. I felt it was quite annoying how many times the restaurant reminded me of my reservation. They emailed, texted, called, left a voicemail....it was too much!! Overall, not worth what I was expecting!
I was disappointed with this restaurant
Food was average and overpriced
Limited wine selection
Excellent food and excellent service in a great rustic/vintage setting. Will be visiting again :)
Excellent, delicious food and lovely ambiance
I think Is nice ,but if main menu have more choose will be better,However everything I totally enjoy
