Top Chef contestant Leah Cohen's Pig and Khao (68 Clinton Street) on the Lower East Side. The Southeast Asian inspired cuisine offers a variety of Thai and Filipino influences on the menu including Crispy Pata and pickled mango salad (pork shank cooked in soy sauce and five spice garnished with coriander, crispy garlic served with a secret family recipe sweet and sour liver dipping sauce), Grilled Pork Jowl and Brussels Sprouts Salad (chili lime fish sauce, shallot, herbs and toasted rice) and Crispy Pork Belly Adobo (Szechuan peppercorn, coconut vinegar, soy sauce, bay leaves, crispy garlic, scallion and soft boiled egg). Drinks range from cheap canned beer, wine, cocktails, and a self-serve bottomless tap in the backyard

Tasting menu was not a traditional tasting menu. The servers threw plates of food on the table with little to no explanation of what were were eating. Food was okay, but very meat heavy - there was not one dish on the tasting menu that didn’t have meat on it. Additionally, we were seated on the patio where the busboy repeatedly added and took away a chair from our table as more or less chairs were needed inside. Very disappointing dinner based on other reviews.

Food was great, however the service was pretty horrendous. Our reservation was for 3:15 pm. The waiter didn't bother to tell us too much about the food and portions. My husband ordered a sausage dish, it was great, but only 6 small pieces , not enough for a full lunch for a grown up man. When he tried to order more food he was informed the kitchen stops taking orders at 3:30pm. so they can close down before dinner. Our reservation was for 3:15pm and waiter didn't bother to show up for another 8 minutes! I guess we were lucky we got food at all...

I went for weekend brunch with a friend. The food was delicious but plates are relatively small. Also not a lot of options for vegetarians. The bottomless mimosa deal was very good - $15 for 2 hours, but the check was sent to us a good 15 ms before the end time and we had to talk to a manager - hence a 3 for service.

Pig & Khao is serving generous portions of really fun, flavorful fare. This will be our new go-to in downtown Manhattan. Great value. Scratched the itch for spicy Asian-inflected food and everything was generously seasoned, yet I didn't wake up parched in the middle of the night or feel like garbage the next day. Perhaps most impressive was the truly diverse and egalitarian vibe. In an industry plagued by misogyny and racism, it was heartening to see what appeared to be a workplace that actually values equality and community. Everyone on staff was kind and seemed to be having fun.

This is officially a New York staple in my book. Open Table tells me I've been here 5 times but feels like more! In a city where you can choose a different restaurant for every dinner and not risk repeating a previous choice, it says a lot that I choose to bring friends and family here every time. The food is representatitve of the best Filipino flavors there are - there are some for the aventurous but also the first timers. The drinks are fun and the atmosphere is relaxed, the music is upbeat and the staff all look cool and are attentive. The value is unbeatable too - always pleasantly surprised when I see the check at the end of our meal. :)

Excellent food! Khao soy and corned beef hash are amazing!!! Loved the lychee mimosa as well. Great plates for sharing when you can’t decide and excellent service

Restaurant week dinner was outstanding. Highlights were the khao soi, pork belly adobo, coconut rice, and both desserts (halo-halo and turon). The seasonings and sauces were all crazy good. And there was a ton of food - we had to box up half of our third course to save room for dessert.
