Pint Shop - Cambridge
Decent meal at a reasonable price.
The food was not just disappointing it was mediocre. Luckily the service was good and friendly.
The atmosphère is 'non existant' in the restaurant.
Beer and food was very expensive. No privacy as tables very close together. Consequently quite noisy.
Very noisy. 6 of us were crowded onto a rocking table in the doorway. Only one piece of (very nice) bread came with a pot of mackerel pate - not nearly enough. Plaice was over cooked and came with no vegetables - just a piece of fish with a butter sauce on the plate. Flat breads were skimpily filled. I've eaten here before and loved it but this time was very poor.
Great spot... worth a visit. Excellent beers on tap.
Great meal, exceptional waitress (Nicole) good food pace was good. Couldn’t ask for more.
Fantastic visit to Pint Shop, delicious food and amazing beer selection
Service was incredible!!
Very disappointed with the food on this visit. Pork cutlet was tough and inedible. An alternative was offered straightaway- I chose roots and beets but this was unappetising- large chunks of cold beetroot, potato and something else. Unpleasant.
The Pint Shop menu never fails to deliver, we love having food here.
A delicious lunch with plenty of choice in a pleasant atmosphere. Thank you
ThIs was our 10th visit for food and it’s where we usually take friends who visit us in Cambridge. Unfortunately this time the food was lacking care and for the first time it felt expensive for what we received. The burgers looked and tasted like they could have been bought at a 1970’s cafe and the chicken flatbread was also lacking depth of flavour and presentation. We enjoyed the beer and wine menu as usual, and our server tried hard to bring an atmosphere to an otherwise emptying upstairs room. I hope things get better in the kitchen soon otherwise we will have to find a new, mid-priced restaurant to take visitors to.
Great for beer and ambience, less so for restaurant
It’s always lovey. Staff are smashing. Food cracking. Love you all. See you soon x
Food standard was excellent as always but I was a little disappointed to find out the sauce selections accompanying the steak were less than they use to be (only offering garlic butter where there use to be a choice of 4+)
Service was not quite up to it's usual standard but overall a very pleasant experience.
The Pint shop is a convenient place to consider before theatre or cinema. Quiet it is not - the piped Muzak does allow conversation but may have contributed to the waitress getting the drinks order wrong. The food is OK but 11 quid for a grilled half aubergine is pushing it a bit. My partner’s steak arrived cooked as requested.
I had booked online tempted by the January Sale offer but omitted to enter the code in the ‘Special Needs’ section of the booking form. The staff declined to negotiate.
a very pleasant evening with attentive and welcoming staff. The food, as always can be relied on to meet the most critical standards and our table in the corner upstairs was quiet and undisturbed by excessive noise. It's eminently recommendable as a pleasnt place to spend a Saturday evening.
Great beer, food and service as always at the Pint Shop.
When I purchased the tickets, we have been promised to get a drink on arrival which was not the case.
We’ve also been told that there was live music but it was outside in the garden but due to the freezing temperatures we have been unable to enjoy the music outdoors.
The drinks were good however a bit expensive.
Great food and service, lovely place for a New Year’s Eve lunch time cocktail and meal, will be back many times!
Great atmosphere, rustic great-tasting food and friendly, knowledgeable staff.
What a shame. I had heard good things about the Pint Shop, but our food was not good at all. I had the scotch egg to start, which had an undercooked exterior, which was pretty tasteless apart from raw onion. Then I had the flat iron steak.. which was just about okay. But the peppercorn sauce could not have been more watery and tasteless. I wouldn’t have minded if I’d gone to a rubbish pub. But I had higher expectations - especially at that price! And when I told people they all started to say, oh yeah never go there to eat, only for a drink. Defo Italy learnt my lesson, but what a shame.
Haven’t been here in a few years as had bad food but thought it was worth a try and it was amazing a must
Very good service. Great food. Enjoyable time.
Booked a table for 4 but it turned out there would be 6 of us, called ahead to see if an extra 2 persons could be accommodated and after being told the restaurant was very busy that evening, they were able to add an extra 2 spaces! Upper dining area was a lovely room, the staff were excellent, attentive and friendly, the atmosphere vibrant and we were all pleasantly surprised at the bill - considering all the wine and beer consumed! Would recommend to all and will be returning soon.
I'm a big fan of the Pint Shop and their 2018 Christmas menu was definitely up to par. The sharing starters and desserts were a great idea so none of us left feeling uncomfortably full. Their roast potatoes were the best ones I had this festive season, and their staff are just lovely.
Food good but always expensive. Mulled sloe gin was disappointing as was only lukewarm.
great food and service. Lots of meat but good veggie and fish items. Great value for money in terms of menu quality and provenance.
A great menu with lots of options for all types of diets. Very creative choices on the main menu as well as outstanding bar snacks. Friendly atmosphere.
I took a group of 16 from my office for a business lunch. Unfortunately the staff member on the front desk got confused over our pre-bookings and responded to his confusion by being rude and aggressive to me and my guests. We were ordered out of the dining room and to the back of the queue at the desk. Once he deigned to talk to us again, it took several minutes of explanation for him to find our pre-bookings, during which time he kept stating they were ‘fully booked for weeks’ and that it was ‘impossible that we had a booking’ and that we must be wrong. Once our party started being taken to their pre-booked tables in groups, he then accused me of having been aggressive, which took me and my remaining guests aback. I asked what it was that I had done that perceived as being aggressive, and apparently this ‘aggressive’ act was that I had asked for his name, which was ‘James, the general manager’. No apologies or explanations were given. What I don’t understand, even retrospectively, is how or why he started thinking of us as enemies rather than guests…
On the positive side, once our guests had all been sat down, the waiting staff were courteous and attentive, the food was excellent, the drinks selection wide with something interesting for everyone, and 16 good 3 course meals were had. However, first impressions count and the frankly shocking behaviour of the general manager overshadowed the visit for everyone, which leads to this review of 1 star. Which is a shame, because the Pint Shop up until this visit had been trusted go-to dining location for many people in our party, including me :(
Great food and beer plus super friendly staff , highly recommend
Unusual ingredient combinations that work amazingly well, really imaginative, fabulous!
A party of 5 of us for work Xmas lunch. Super food and drink and excellent service. The only downside was that we hadn't booked for the set Xmas lunch menu - didn't read the small print! Not really a problem as there is plenty to choose from on the main menu. The belly pork is to die for!
We were a table of 4 on a Tuesday night, nothing unusual. Food took forever, had been under a heat lamp for far too long so my steak was dry and tough (although I asked for rare) and the peppercorn sauce had a skin on it. Beer selection very good though. Service was ok but not apologetic enough for how long our food took. Food expensive for the quality.
Food price is quite high and is not as good as expected. Ordered Sunday Roast but it is just normal roasted Chicken with potato and vegetables. The served food is not warm enough to enjoy.
Was so disappointed with the Pint Shop. Nice ambiance when we arrived but the service was appalling. Only a few other tables seated when we arrived but had to chase a waitress to place our order & get water. Food was great but starters arrived before G&T which was very poorly made! Food was great but service ..... or lack of marred evening.
Great food, great service and a new tradition for me and my friends to lunch there whenever we meet up. Outstanding choice of beer and fabulous choice of wine, gin and other spirits.
Good beer. Food was a let down this time
After hearing good things from friends I was disappointed by the pint shop. The service was quite slow. Our server was friendly but we asked another team member to pay as our server was busy but they seemed reluctant because we weren't their table. Our starter was also undercooked.
overall a great night and we would go again. We all enjoyed the food, and atmosphere. The staff were very pleasant. From seated to getting drinks took about 35 minutes but they were exceptionally busy as Christmas party season too but the staff were apologetic and working hard. The pork balls starter whilst very enjoyable, £8 for 3 small balls rolling around on a plate we felt was way over priced for what you got compared to the scotch egg starter. If you're hungry don't order the pork balls to start! Needed at least 5 as it only came with a small pot of dip.
Busy Saturday afternoon but we had pre-booked a table (always worth doing to guarantee a seat), great choice of beers for the hubby, scrummy scotch egg starter, always a good meal with attentive and pleasant staff. Would recommend.
