About

Overlooking the picturesque Church of Mary Magdalen on London Bridge’s historic Bermondsey Street, Pizarro is a 80-seater bar and restaurant offering classical Spanish cooking freshened up for the modern diner. The finest ingredients of the season are sourced from the UK and Spain to conjure up the big flavors of rural Spain, where Jose Pizarro grew up. The restaurant offers reservations for tables for 2-4 persons, banquette seating for 4-6 people and a private dining room seating 8-10 people. Bar and informal shared seating at the front of the restaurant is held for walk-in diners, so everyone gets the opportunity to dine. The restaurant is open from midday till 11pm every day except Sunday when we close at 10pm, The bar is open all day serving drinks, plates of cheese and charcuterie, aperitivos (cold appetisers) and desserts.

The large wooden doors can open out onto the main restaurant or be kept closed for a more private event. The private room also has its own music channel and lighting, which can be adjusted to a suit diners needs.

I loved the decor and the ambience of the restaurant. The food was great. The wine was expensive though.
I enjoyed it very much and was pleased to have been there.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Very friendly service. The kitchen is open to the restaurant so you can see the care and attention that goes into the preparation of the food. The lunch menu on the day was varied and beautifully presented and did not disappoint. I would definitely return and thoroughly recommend Pizarro's.

Quite exceptional food in a very modern and comfortable restaurant. Its a long walk though out from the South Bank. It was a tad more expensive than I had budgeted for but the quality of the food was quite exceptional.

Good evening ruined by the wine waiter. Despite me touching the bottle before it was opened to say it was too cold, he suggested it was ok to drink a £50 of wine ice cold, and then swilled it around a decanter to warm it up so it had a head like beer!

The food and ambience was lovely. Unfortunately, the service wasn't great at all! So much so, we were having to get up from the table to find a waitress!

Outstanding food of the highest quality. Hugely attentive service, but 'ruined' by the postcript/reflection that they are hard-selling over priced wine. Should they be recommending and charging £53 for an Albarino with a published retail price of £16? If Jose cares for his reputation he should either come out and justify this or do something about it. Otherwise it is undermining his standing as a chef.

Some of the best tapas in town. Can get a little expensive as you tend to keep ordering. Staff engaging and knowledgeable. Our waiter, Reuben, suggested a very good, reasonably priced (for London) red wine.

One word AMAZING! This is such a great choice for a restaurant around Bermondsey St - situated at the far end, its totally worth the additional steps to find yourself at this wonderful authentic venue. The menu is incredible and everything we tasted was so on point - we had the most lovely waitress too who gave us her recommendations which we were so pleased with. Must return to this restaurant for sure!

Good authentic modern Spanish food. I had the quail escabeche, which I enjoyed. I was warned it would be served rare and it was a good dish but it was a little too rare near the bone. Some very interesting and very good Spanish wines, but your can rack up the costs if you are not careful.

I haven't been to Pizarro since shortly after it opened a while ago - when I really enjoyed it. So happily booked again, but this time found it disappointing. We shared nibbles as starters, which were fine, but as just ingredients layed out, nothing to go wrong. The main course was the main disappointment - it was the special and was described well, so we both had it, but it was bland, and uninteresting - one big prawn and a piece of not very tasty squid, on a pile of under-seasoned, and slightly odd tasting pasta. They bought some lemon and additional sauce on request, but my colleague had pretty much finished by the time it arrived. it's also quite noisy as the accoustics are not great. Service was friendly, but I felt it had lost its edge. Maybe an unlucky night - but I will go back to the Garrison up the road next time I am in the area.

Great and real Spanish food. The only thing I will suggest is that the dessert menu is updated to include Spanish traditional desserts (for example, I missed some Spanish traditional rice pudding or custards).

Fairly easy to find after a boat trip down the river. Busy, good atmosphere. Waiting staff knew the food well. We really enjoyed the food - especially the crab gratin and the quail. Had to attract staff attention a couple of times but it was very busy.

The food is great and service too. But £383 for a meal for 4, with two bottles of wine and two G&T is excessive for the area and the place.

We went for my partner's birthday. All was spectacular: food, service, atmosphere. Food especially was outstanding with amazing flavours. Really good atmosphere and remarkable service: waitress was helpful in translating the menu and also made suggestions for wine. Nothing but praise for the whole experience.

Food was good but the main course portions are extremely small! Vegetables/sides are extra and you need them.
Staff could be snappier on getting drinks - we had to ask every time we needed more.
Heating is up WAY too high.

It used to be one of my favourite but I am afraid it is not as good as before -- the presa was lukewarm, and the octopus dish replaces the amazing, delicate sauce with some cheap potatos.
Food is still good but I am missing the passion it used to show.

Absolutely top-notch cooking in a lovely ambience. Only criticism is that the wine list is excessively expensive, with the vast majority of wines over £50/bottle, and very little choice below that price point.

We have visited Pizarro five times and Jose is always there. Ready with a warm welcome and ready smile. Great food and service a wonderful restaurant.

We invited our daughter and her Spanish boyfriend who are visiting from their home in Spain they both loved it.

Jose found the time to sign his latest book and write a personal message in advance of our visit a nice touch and so typical of Jose.

Really worth a visit.

Been meaning to get to one of the Pizarro joints for ages, and I was no left disappointed! We had a window seat (only booked v last min though!) and the service was really good. The house Priorat was v lovely (a cheaper alternative to rioja) and we eschewed the main courses and instead had lots of small bites, starters etc. The special-on-the-day salami, the octopus and the tomato bread were amazing. The chorizo was a little disappointing as so greasy and we thought the cauliflower could do with a bit more seasoning. I am nit picking though, as this is exactly the kinda food I love, and I will deffo be back to try another of Jose's restaurants soon!
