Pizza East - Portobello
Just like our big brother in Shoreditch, while we take our pizza seriously the setting is very relaxed. We’ve stripped the building’s interior back and created a light and airy space with wooden floors and huge windows, then filled it with beautiful vintage cafe furniture. The in-house wood-fired ovens and open ground floor kitchen mean there are great views to be had inside, especially from the antique stools at the counter, or you can sit outside and watch the world go by.
Our upstairs dining room is an even more laid-back sitting room, as is our terrace, a little green haven away from the hustle of town, where you can have drinks or dinner.
The pizza was good (but not great), it was the service that was disappointing. We felt a bit forgotten sitting upstairs and waited a while for forks and then to pay our bill. It wasn't terrible at all, but could have been better.
Nice place in a great surrounding. Relaxed crowd and friendly staff. But music to loud early in the evening and service slow even though it wasn’t very busy.
Great food, nice ambient, some waiter v nice, some a bit confused.
Always great food and a nice atmosphere.
Went for lunch and the food and service were good. The choices for vegetarians are exciting and the prices of pizzas very fair. The side salads in comparison are pretty expensive and I was a little disappointed that you could not have them as a main instead. Overall lovely pizza and a great place for lunch.
Delicious food! Would definitely recommend and will be back.
Got given a nice table by the lovely hostess. The service was attentive but hands off and we enjoyed our night very much. Great food with good ingredients. Pizza more so than lasagna.
Needed dinner in a pinch for a family of 5 and Pizza East really came through. We ordered 5 pizzas and the butter lettuce salad, and everything was fantastic, especially the service.
Place and location are great, staff is kind and nice but food is disappointing.
Service was extremely slow considering the restaurant wasn’t that busy
Couldn't help but feel that the quality of the pizzas has dropped, and now compares unfavourably to neweer competitors such as Pizza Pilgrims or Franco Manca. Disappointing.
Loved our family meal at Pizza East..stand out for us was the amazing warm and friendly service! Outstanding! We’ll be back!
The location and decor are great. Decent selection of dishes on the menu, pizzas were ok. Service was very friendly.
My pizza was strangely disappointing , I don’t know what’s happened but this restaurant has gone down hill, I live locally and would take some persuading to go back . Otherwise service and setting were great - as usual and as expected
Amazing food and service
Nice waitresses nice setting
Had an amazing dinner and staff were superb. It was VERY hot in there though!
Service slow as always. Went for a business lunch and there were children running around everywhere although it wasn’t half term! Menu needs a freshen up...
I would really recommend this venue for its great pizza, the ambience and the authentic Italian vibe.
The antipasti are also delicious.
I will be coming back craving for pizza
Only downside would be very busy and tight in terms of space.
We went at 7pm on a Saturday.
It seems to have become one of the go to places for families with lots of children. Unfortunately, that makes it a really loud experience with way too many uncontrolled kids running around (are their parents really that deaf?)
If you're in that demographic, it's one for you. If you're not, you might want to go at a later time, or try somewhere else.
Awesome food, awesome venue, awesome looking staff and awesome service. Thank you!
As a regular and big fan of PE i was hugely disappointed - service and food was terrible. Long waits, wrong items and ignored by staff
Love it here. Everything is great only thing I would say is that we think it would be good if had a specials board or changed menu more regularly
Pizza sizes have definitely shrunk a lot
Place is my local. Salmon dish used to have an actual big salmon slice/portion. For the past month we have eaten there four times and each time got shredded CAT FOOD salmon remains and minuscule vegetable portion. Place went down the hill! No real value, service was so fast and impersonal. Won’t be back.
Great food, great atmosphere.
Service was good but could have been better. Fourth time in there and service has been better.
Could do with a few tables being taken out as difficult for customers and staff to manoeuvre around.
A bit pricey but it is portobello road after all. Craft beer menu could do with an update tbh.
Food is fresh and tastes amazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area
Great buzzy place, but was a little bit disappointed by the pizza... Slightly burnt , doughy base and not quite what expected! But starters were great
Yummy food and good service! Also good value for money!
Despite of requesting a table away from the middle of ground floor ... the waitress kept arguing that the other empty tables were reserved and not available ( with an addition of shoulder shrugs and facial expressions of disbelief) !
Managed to get manager in charge to intervene and he sent us upstairs and we enjoyed the food like always !
Great for a casual catch up with friends.
The table was crammed between a very small space between the walls. Very uncomfortable.
It may have been a bad night but it was the worst Italian food I have had in London. I lived in Milan for five years and do not expect that standard, but for a family friendly restaurant this was still very disappointing. I would neither recommend it nor go back.
Great Pizza, Beer, Buzz & Service! Cant complaine!
I’ve eaten many times at PE Shoreditch, this was the first time at Portobello Road. It was just as good if not better. Same uniquely delicious pizza with fantastic service and lovely surroundings.
Look, Pizza East is a perfectly good place to have pizza. They do good pizzas and the service is speedy if not very accurate. That aside, my issue was the noise level. We ate there last Saturday evening with the other early punters and their kids on a half-term treat. The decibel level was high with voices, laughter and the sounds of the open kitchen. This is why we all go to restaurants: to feel part of life, to see others and to be seen. Why oh why did they insist on cranking up the 80's music? It was already loud enough with the sounds of life and we didn't need any further noise. I realise that I am at risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, but I want to talk to my friends and be able to hear the conversations. This couldn't happen at Pizza East and we all struggled to listen to each other. I hope it's not a cynical ploy of getting the punters in, feeding them and then driving them away from what should be a relaxing evening by cranking up the decibels. Alternatively, I am just a cranky man with a slight hearing issue! That said, I won't be returning.
Overall, the place was good. Pizzas were outstanding, but tiramisu wasn’t great at all.
If you want a great pizza and don’t feel like standing in a queue for hours at Pizza East Shoredich, this is a place to be.
Excellent quality and service. As a native Italian and passionate foodie, the relief that genuine places still exist, safeguarding the real Italian food legacy.
Great pizzas, and Sunday roasts looked amazing too. Loved the apple and cherry crumble and banana ice cream. Good recommendation from our server for an Italian rose from Puglia. He was very friendly and attentive to us, even though restaurant was pretty busy. Nice table by the window.
Would recommend Pizza East for a relaxed Sunday lunch - thank you!
If I could have heard myself speak, I would have told the waiter but the music was so loud.
The pizza used to be great; now it’s terrible.
