One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. The food here is outstanding. Giant salads and portions.
We had a lovely time, great service and delicious food all around. It’s a great restaurant to meet friends, have a date night or enjoy a special occasion! We are regulars!
Good is excellent, our server was amazing, the only minus was too much street noise.
A nice neighborhood restaurant. A little understaffed right now, but isn't that the case everywhere. Good job from the servers who show up and do the best they can. Tip generously, these folks work hard! :)
Excellent food and service. Multiple outdoor dining areas for those concerned about COVID.
Great food! Our server was so kind to our dogs and even gave them a piece of bacon.
It was just so nice to see a full restaurant post pandemic! Casual, friendly, decent food. Good wine list.
I was expecting a better food. The place is overrated . No parking. Also, there was no table reserve but we were put the additional parking lot sitting. The host was just litle rude
Food and server were great. Hostess has a bit of an attitude.
Everything was pretty good, except wings came out cold and had to be sent back. Fun atmosphere.
really good food and good service. We brought our dog and the seated us on the patio and brought her a bowl of water! Highly recommend
I was disappointed when I saw this place was in a strip mall, but food was still delicious.
Amazing food. We had the Classic Burger, Fish and chips, and the Beet salad. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Fish was perfectly crisp yet still juicy and danced in your mouth. Beet salad was especially balanced with goat cheese, pine nuts, and balsamic vinegar.
Service was spotty at best. Asked for water and a straw several times before it made it to the table. What made it worse was each waiter/runner/table man seemed to only acknowledge their assigned table, as I made contact with one table man and one waiter only to be ignored by them. It was not until I made eye contact with our waiter was I acknowledged. Sad. Hostess also could use some retraining as she continued to “update” the specials board even after making eye contact when we first entered. A simple “I’ll be with you” would have made us feel welcome.
Come here if you want great food and don’t mind a cold atmosphere. Go else where if feeling welcomed is important to you.
BTW-an additional surcharge for “min wage” is unappealing considering the price of each dish…$2-4 over comparable dishes other places.
As always, Plate 38 has EXCELLENT food and EXCELLENT service, and they have coped with the pandemic issues better than anyone I know. The inside, as always, is fairly noisy, but the new (and apparently permanent) outdoor space is very comfortable and very quiet. Great as always.
There food is creative and very tasty the chef is great. They have all the regulars on the plus some thing new and different.
Cheap and good quality, parking is also convenient.
Really nice to get back into a restaurant for a night out with friends. Monday is the best time to visit Plate 38 because their 'Happy Hour' drink and food menu is valid until closing. Great bar drinks along with oysters on the half-shell and steamed mussels.
Tables very dirty and sticky even after @clanin
Always great food and friendly service. I've never had a bad meal here.
Were seated outside in the temporary seating. It was extremely noisy with the traffic driving by. Were told after orders complete they didn't have salmon, but then one of our orders showed up with the salmon. It is usually better here.
It was a really busy Thursday night because they had live music. The servers were fast and accurate. Music and the ambience is great. Will be coming back on Thursday
Best food in Pasadena consistently and portions are generous. Love it!
Food and service were perfect as always.
Despite the fact that we made a reservation, we were told to wait at least 15 minutes along with all of the other walk-ins. So, we left.
4 stars because any place with bottomless mimosas on a Monday deserves at least that. However it was not the best experience, 50 minutes to get our food. Apparently our food went out to the wrong table and instead of coming by to let us know, our server decided to avoid us. I had the crab cake benny and my guest had the salmon benny, they were average. In his defense, after our food came our server became very very attentive.
It was our first time at Plate 38. The service was very above average. The food was good although we felt the a greater explanation of the dishes would be a benefit to first timers as well as recommendations from the kitchen
Great service and the food was outstanding for Brunch
The menu was varied and appealing. However, our paella entree was a little bland and under-seasoned.
I love this place usually. It’s my local spot but when I went this week the food was not as good. They ran out of French fries at lunch and my burger was like sawdust when I asked for medium rare. The service which is typically great was super slow too.
Food was awesome as was the service! The noise level a bit high for a Saturday morning brunch, but delicious!
Food was really good. The lunch menu has lots of great offerings.
If it wasn't for the hostess, I would have given five stars on everything.
Our visit got off to a rocky start when we requested an indoor table because the wind was blowing quite hard. The hostess's solution was to seat us next to an open door where we had to weigh down our menus, napkins, etc. When I went back to the hostess to see if there was anything that could be done, she got defensive, cut me off before I could finish my question and told me in no uncertain terms that she couldn't close the doors, which I had no intention of asking her to. I said I was aware of that, my question was could we be seated somewhere else. She said no, there was nothing else available (which I wish she would have told me before we were seated...I might have chosen to go somewhere else). I said we didn't have time to wait and I guessed there was nothing she could do and walked away. She tracked me down and tried to engage with me further, but I told her to just forget it as we didn't have time to wait for another table.
All of that aside, our server was lovely to us and took great care of us. She accommodated our every request, including giving us a half-and-half order of french fries and sweet potato fries. I had the chicken pesto sandwich and it was delicious!
I liked it. However having a separate charge on the receipt showing minimum wage increase is petty. It's like you are trying to say " You are being punished for us having to give your server a fair wage.
Do not pass this place up, Every item we ordered was beautifully crafted and delicious. If I had to pick a favorite I would say it was the Fish with Yuzu ( forgot the name).
Love that Plate 38 is back at it and seems to be fairing quite well -- a wonderful addition to the neighborhood!
Food was delicious and service was great! We got there just after opening to beat the crowds.
Great spot. Awesome bottomless mimosas! Highly recommend.
Wonderful to be back after a long year. Note: Tomato basil soup[ regular on menu], tun tartar tacos, soft shell crab, striped bass, all very well received.
I always love Plate 38, been here multiple times. The price though way too much for a simple burger. Otherwise very good.
So glad to be back out dining with my friends, and Plate 38 is perfect for a couple, or a group of 5-6. Prompt service, great menu and wine/cocktail list. We had a great bottle of rose from a well-chosen selection.
They were very accommodating of two guests who arrived late, two who left early (haha, leaving us with the bill!)—we had the table till we were ready to go, not pushed out the door.
This is a popular place for groups so I do recommend a reservation.
Now the food! I had a big and tasty plate of Peruvian shellfish stew. Every morsel was delicious. Friends ate smoked mozzarella burger; little gems salad; pasta with shrimp; beet salad. And we went through three cones of their delicious, truly French-style skinny and crispy French fries. With what was left of our appetite, we had the creme brûlée trio, perfect to share for three people.
