The food was OK, average.
I have read many reviews of very bad service, people rushed through their meals, but I did feel that as well. There was this one lady who was particularly rude, asking if she can take the plates when there was clearly food left on the plate.
It was a very cold evening, I asked if they could close the door, but they refused as it was easy access for the customers to come in.
I think you can get better food, better service in other Chinatown restaurants.
Clearly, not my place
Expensive with terrible service the waitress kept giving my date and me ugly looks and would make faces when we ordered things. She was very cold and would keep telling us to hurry up even though I had booked the table a week in advance. Never going back again
They could not find our booking so squeezed us in upstairs at the back. Bit of a delay in taking our order but OK after that. Food was very good.
Food is nice and authentic. Service is unsatisfactory at all. Disappointed twice.
Nice food but overpriced, seating was fine but area was noisy and the service poor, waiter was not bothered in the slightest had to keep calling him over, lots of other restaurants to explore in china town, won't return.
We have sophisticated tastes for Chinese food given that we have lived in Asia. The Plum Valley dishes we ordered stand up quite well to what you can get in Hong Kong. The dim sum in particular seems to be handmade with originality. The only drawback is that it's noisy (despite the upscale ambience), the dishes are small, and it's pricey. But hey, this is London. Excellent food though!
We had made a reservation for this restaurant after seeing a show as we had read this get's busy and booked up. We arrived, asked us if we had a reservation but didn't ask for our name - this was disappointing as we made the reservation for my birthday and was hoping to get a nice table.
We were put on a table at the back of the restaurant corner with no atmosphere and where the service lift was to take away dirty plates so there was a lot of staff traffic in that area. The staff were fine, however a couple of them were arguing next to the service lift throughout our meal. The food was tasty, however not worth the price.
Overall we were disappointed that we picked this place, and probably wouldn't go back nor recommend it.
Food was very nice, but there was some difficulty in sorting out gluten free options. This needs to be clearer in the menus. Everything else about the restaurant was great!
Lovely evening. Staff were very attentive. Food was lovely and courses weren't rushed. Cant wait to go again.
Good food but really awful service
Excellent food and great location
Good service and value for money
Highly Disappointing and Rude Service !
It was meant to be a friends gathering dinner. Shortly after an hour, we were asked to leave via various tactics, table being tidy up repeatedly even before we have finished, desert options all run out (at 7.30pm ?!), finally told us there were people queuing up,...
We should be told at booking or at its website, each table cannot stay longer than 1 hour. It is meant for fast food! but charging proper restaurant price !
No second round for sure !
The service was very bad. The food came very late and the staff was rude.
The place couldn't cope with the New Year celebrations. Bookings were all mixed up crating a long queue at the door. The service was rushed and not up to standard. Food arrived too late and also before the drinks! The food is generally good here but we cannot certainly describe this place as Fine Dining Chinese restaurant. Very disappointed. I will try again to give the benefit of the doubt and request a table upstair as it seems better than the basement.
Had a great meal, even though it was Chinese New Year and crazy busy, the service was good and we didn’t have to wait to long for our food.
Excellent Chinese food - the Plum Valley roast chicken and beef rendang curry were absolutely delicious. Cocktails with an oriental twist (e.g. Lychee martinis) also lovely.
HOWEVER the service was terrible both times I have been to this restuarant - extremely slow and unapologetic about it. Toilets also dirty.
Despite the quality of the food I won't be going back, which is a real shame.
I visit this restaurant very often when I am in the area for lunch or dinner. We always have great food. Well cooked and great taste.
Great food and great service - would definitely return
Food was good but service was not good at all. The restaurant should be used to being very busy especially during Chinese New Year. The room we were put into was dark and uncomfortable.
Horrific meal, raw chicken served, waited 45 mins for drinks to arrive, food came out so slowly that our party of 7 ate at different times. dirty plates where stacked up on the floor near our table, broken chairs and unused tables where stacked up in the corridor and toilets where unclean - no toilet roll (at 7pm). The service was completely disorganised and hectic.
Food was delicious and fairly authentic with beautiful decor but was disappointed by service as we had to repeat our orders and requests before waiters took action. Overall experience was good.
Starters were cold and service was disappointing.
Very bad service. Staff were rude and told us to hurry and finish (they want fast rotation) - this was just two hours into the meal.
Had to return our rice order because it got cold...
We very much liked the dim sum in plum valley when we were there last Sunday. Compared to earlier visits, however, some of the dim sum were not as tasteful/fresh as usual (wasabi and chili chef’s special).
Although we booked through Open Table for 2030 on a Saturday, we had to wait half an hour for a table. Food was very nice it seemed a bit tepid by the time it got to us, presumably because they were so busy. The food is great but we will avoid peak times going forward.
This continues to be one of my favourite dim sum spots in London. You have to request the dim sum menu specifically. The options have changed a bit over the last couple of years, but they still serve outstandingly delicious dim sum. Staff can be a bit overwhelmed sometimes, but they're still on it and will bring you everything you ask for. I recommend making a reservations, especially for the weekend.
Amazing place to celebrate with a big group. I really enjoy the food
This is my regular go-to for a taste of home :) The food in terms of taste and quality is consistent and excellent. Best part food comes quickly and is piping hot. Great variety on the menu. Service excellent - thank you Ching. The only downside if I was to be picky - 15 min wait for table in spite of having a confirmed reservation.
Another satisfying dim sum lunch at Plum Valley. Service is quick, perfect for pre-movie meal.
It used to be a rather elegant Chinese restaurant in Soho, but they do not serve unusual dishes anymore and the service was rather rough. Disappointed.
Food has gone down a lot in the past 7 years we've been coming here. They used to have a number of unique dishes but now this place is pretty standard...just like most other of the dimsum places in Chinatown now. Still decent, but not a destination for us anymore.
The waitress was really unfriendly, she non stop put us in a hurry (to order, to change plates, to pay...)
Nobody smiled at us, not even to welcome us when we got there.
We would not recommend this restaurant, we spent an unpleasant moment there.
Unfortunately not the same as my last visit ..felt very rushed ..two courses came together so food got cold ..disappointing
The food here is excellent! We had several appetizers and shared several different meals. All of them were great. The seafood was especially fresh and very tasty! The service was spotty, but not bad. I’d definitely recommend this place unless you’re looking for perfect service.
Poor service, waitress was rude, chicken was dry, had to wait ages for food, over priced for the quality you get
a little short staffed which sadly meant having to keep asking for the simple things like the drinks we ordered when we first arrived, or more water. We were there as a business lunch so this took the shine off the event. The food was, as usual, delicious.
Food always good, service can be a bit up and down but always worth it!
Food was a bit slow and the dining room was too dark.
