Great restaurant fab service nice staff will be back
Really don't understand the poor reviews. We had a brilliant night. Arrived 10min late & stayed really late. Had a great laugh with the hostess who helped make the night. Ordered masses of delicious dim sum & left with enough for a nice big breakfast. Had some delicious cocktils for dessert. The Espresso Martinis are wonderful. Will be back very soon.
Dim sum was good, service was below average, lady kept trying to take dishes away. Felt rushed to get out. The set dim sum tea menu was varied and tasty. Normal size portions which made it good value. It was the waitress with the bob hair that ruined the experience.
Went to celebrate a 30th birthday. Awful service (on all occasions we had to ask for the waiter’s attention) and no manners from any of the serving staff. We asked for two birthday cakes to be presented and were handed the cakes back in the packaging and plastic bag we brought them in. Often told to be quiet, despite the fact our party was not being unusually loud for a birthday celebration; there were also other bookings who were chatting loudly. Even after complaining to the manager we weren’t treated with the respect a customer would expect.
Would highly suggest to GO ELSEWHERE for any bookings for more than 2 people.
It’s our go-to restaurant in Chinatown and for pre-theatre dinner.
Very creative food, lively atmosphere, great service. We really enjoyed our visit.
The food was served cold, we did not say anything as it took ages to come in the first place and then to get the attention of the staff.
9 of us booked at short notice. They had a good size table upstairs. The service was excellent and the food even better. We had the ribs and the set menu D. I can recommend it
Only slight draw back was the toilet did not smell very clean.
Food was delicious and the service was better than some of the reviews I had read before. Only criticism I have, is that the lady bringing the food over did not know what she was bringing which wasn't great for our vegetarian friend!
Plum Valley never lets me down. The food is excellent: tasty, authentic and with a wide range of choices (but not overwhelming). The duck is particularly good, as are the vegetarian options. There are some great and reasonably priced wines. Service is quick and friendly. Price-wise it's a notch above most of the other Chinatown places but value for money and totally worth it.
Food was very nice and good portion, service was ok. Great for pre-theatre as it was also quick.
Service was a bit off today, took forever to get our tea(and it's 3pounds for each order of tea)
Peking duck was pretty good, but a bit pricy considering you don't actually get the whole duck(am sure they leave the legs off) In other places, you see the duck carved in front of you, but here it comes ready sliced and piled up. Served with steamed buns that are halved, along with spring onions and cucumber. Flavours were good, but I think there are better places for Peking duck.
The noodles were a little too oily and more of a chinese take away standard, which is disappointing, considering the price.
The egg tofu in clay pot was good, but they really need to update their menu (there was aubergine in the dish but no mention of it on the menu).
Horrible service - won’t be back.
Very nice food, service a little slow but they were all very nice and accommodating!
We were looking for a dim sum restaurant and were not disappointed. Lucky as they even had dim sum week with a tasting menu. Great choice of dim sum. Quite busy during weekend lunch but service was great.
good food, but not suitable if you are with your boyfriend or dating. They rush you since the beginning and I felt I wasn’t welcome at all. 5 minutes after seating a group of 10 sat next to us so we asked to change table. The waitress didn’t leave me time to choose what to drink and they didn’t give us the dim sum menu, obviously because it’s cheaper.
Service is awful. If you want to have a chat with your friends, don't go there because they always try to clear your table and ask you to pay and leave.
The dim sum was very fresh and good flavours. The Japanese baby octopus was particularly good, good chilli oil and tender seafood. The Fujian fried rice was also very tasty. All washed down with several good bottles of Merlot
We have visited Plum Valley on many occasions before and always had to wait for 10-20 minutes at the reception area even with reservation. This time was no different. Despite the initial waiting, food and service have always been great.
Restaurant was able to provide highchair for a child and ground floor seating which is more comfortable than 1/F.
Under £15 per person.
Great service and delicious food. Perfect for a get together with friends or casual meal. The food is amazing, great selection and value. My second visit and many more to come. Thank you!
There used to be a great dimsum dinner menu here, but has since been replaced with a limited and disappointing offering. Section we were seated in had no aircon, so was sweltering. Table service was slow and bad tempered. Shame because this place used to be great.
The food is always great. In this instance, a large group of 30 year old boys were at the table next to us. They were loud, drunk and obnoxious. It ruined our experience. Management should have offered to move us or move them or spoken to them to settle down.
Food was really good, great vegetarian options. The vegetarian egg noodles were amazing. However, the staff where not very friendly had a constant annoyed look and also got our order wrong and were rude even though it was there mistake. Worth putting up with staff for the food though.
Have always loved the food here but on this occasion it was a bit disappointing, not as good as have always found it, portions smaller and not as well presented, nor as tasty. The staff however are always extremely helpful and attentive.
Only half the dim sum was good. Dim sum suggested by waitor was fairly poor. Barbecue pork buns were pretty terrible, so was the fried dim sum. Decent steamed ones however would not go again considering the two of us didn't even want to finish some of the food
The piace is very nice, good food, good design and atmosphere. The only problem was the dessert, the gave us 2 dessert still freezed. The costumer service could be better.
The food was good, slightly over priced for what you get. The service however was awful, all members of staff were very rude, when our food was brought out it was quickly slammed down on the table in random places for the server to then quickly run away after. Although the restaurant was fairly quiet it took a long time to take our order and to bring drinks.
Upon receiving our bill we noticed a 'Discretionary' 12.5% service charge had been added. We disputed this, we did not want to pay this as our service was awful and it clearly stated that this fee was to be at our discretion. The server asked us why and we explained that everyone had been rude, she then slammed down the card machine and went to speak to management. After much arguing on her side telling us we had to pay it she finally gave in and hurried us out of the restaurant in anger.
Will never be returning a huge shame as the food was good but still expensive considering the service.
I’ve been to this place before and I would even recommend it to the friends. At this moment I would rather black list it. The food is not tasty. Overfried, too dry. Furthermore, there was a problem with a service. We have been for one dish for a long time and then it came cold. Similarly, we feel rushed because it was the end of the shift and waiters want to go home. I would recommend to avoid it.
Delicious dumplings and fast service - we love this restaurant!
quality of the food has gone up since our last visit a few months ago...but the timing of the dishes are still off. the noodle dishes came a good 20-30 mins before any of our dim sum orders on a Sunday lunch. also, the service can be a bit haphazard, but for a dependable chinatown dimsum, this is our preferred place.
From reading other reviews we nearly gave this one a miss. Have to agree with the general view - the food is outstanding, in particular the Crispy duck salad with pomegranate seeds - but the service leaves a bit to be desired. We asked for main dishes to be served after the appetizer, but they started coming to the table before we had finished it. To be fair, our waitress noticed and asked if we would like them taken away and brought back when we were ready. Asked for tea several times but apparently not heard, and then when we thought we had succeeded we were given the bill instead. Again - this was put right when it was pointed out, bu really shouldn't have happened.
Ambiance was good, and there were a number of Chinese diners which is always a good sign at a Chinese restaurant.
Would we go back? Yes, for the food, but would be cautious about recommending it to others based on the service.
The food was excellent, service a little bit and miss- they forgot some of our order (but did bring it quickly once we pointed it out) and got another dish wrong (but we are it anyway and it was delicious). The interior was nice but I found the lights over the table were just the wrong height for me and were right in my eyes. But I'd go again for the food!
Our go-to dim sum place for big group gathering. Dim sum is good as well as reasonably priced to suit everyone’s budget. This restaurant is always busy during weekends so advance booking is always advisable.
The service was rushed & none of the staff tended to our needs. Wine not topped up, no one asked if we was ok and that we was enjoying our meal. When we gave this feedback to the front desk the response was "ok sorry" but did not quiz us further on why we were unhappy & made no attempt to fix the situation. The standards were good in the beginning but now has slipped & is a slap dash service with no care, consideration and attentive staff.
Very good Food.
The Duck and the Ostrich
One of my favourite dim sum place, with comfy seating and nice ambiance. Staff are friendly and efficient. Good value too. The other reason I liked this place is no / low MSG, I never used to get thirsty after a meal there, but did feel strangely thirsty after this meal, perhaps it’s from the soy sauce. Hope they’ll continue not to use MSG, as I’d like to be able to come back again and again!
Very poor service
I always enjoy Plum Valley.. But do take note: you only get the table for 2 hours.. They did not notify us of this ‘rule’ when we made the reservation or taken to our table. By the time we hit 2 hours, the manager rudely told us to leave while we still had full glasses of wine. We informed her that we were not told we had the table for only 2 hours and she implied that that was the general rule everywhere. Excuse me? No, it is not. And of there was a time limit on the table, the restaurant tells you numerous times. At the end we left without finishing our wine. Amazing food!! Always! But take note of the non-communicative 2 hour table limit.
I have been here a few times, food seems to have taken a bit of a slide in both quality and flavours. Service is always slick and prompt.
