Popi's Italian Restaurant
An Italian South Philly gem of a restaurant! Great Staff, drink, appetizers, entrees and dessert!
Service was so-so, they forgot our appetizer had to remind the waiter, he was not very attentive almost felt like we were after thought. To my surprise, The food was not very tasty I had the vodka with penne and chicken very bland. Wasn’t impressed, the music was good and the bar area seemed lively as it was a Friday evening. Won’t be going back
The dinner was awesome and our waitress Carmela was excellent. Looking forward to going back soon.
Delicious food. Wonderful service. Greeted by hostess immediately. We decided to dine outside because the weather was wonderful. Comfortable seating and very little street noise. I would go here again.
Great food, great service. When I am back in this area I would return.
Great spot, only negative was very loud. I will definitely eat there again.
Hadn't been to Popi's in a while (used to frequent it ). Decided to take 2 friends to dinner after a Phillies game. They haven't changed one bit. Impeccable service, extremely hospitable and fantastic food.
It is back on my list. Sorry I left!
Always great food, fantastic service, and PARKING! Need to meet folks who don't want to drive around forever, looking for parking, and still wanting a great S. Philly meal? You want Popi's.
I was back in the area for work and had to honor my Gram by going back to her favorite restaurant. Very nostalgic being there and enjoying a wonderful Italian meal. Took a co worker for her first authentic Italian meal and she loved it! Hoping to get back to South Philly again so I can go back and indulge again.
Always a great stop
We were looking for a local authentic restaurant - the cuisine wasn't important, and we were thrilled to find Popi's! We enjoyed it thoroughly. We were also very surprised that for the ambiance, menu and service, the prices were more on a lower-end - one can eat very well here for about $25 - $30 pp and walk away extremely satisfied.
We had a great meal and a great waitress. I am vegan and the waitress was really helpful and helping me pick out what would be a good meal. She was prompt, courteous, helpful and the food was fantastic. I really enjoyed the restaurant. Definitely would go there again.
The food was good.
Just did'nt like the green pepper oil taste with the bread.
Popi's is my go to restaurant in South Philly. Always consistent and good. Mt fiance loved the penne bolgnese and I had the chicken dish. Wine list is great with many value wines.
Will return again when in the area.
Great birthday for my daughter
Food delicious, friendly waitress, nice atmosphere
Popi’s never disappoints. We brought out of town guests and they loved it. Frank our waiter was awesome and so was the bus person.
I've been going to Popi's for about 10 years now and have never had anything but a great experience. Food is great, service is great, the place is really nice. Can't ask for much more than that!
We ordered bruschetta and eggplant rollentini as appetizetrs and as entrees fruitti di mare and beet salad.. The appetizers came to the table in less than 5 minutes. The eggplant was very good. The bruschetta was eh. Tomatoes were crunchy (not ripe), the toast wasn't warm or garlic rubbed as I believe it should have been though the serving size was more than ample. The flavor wasn't there so I asked for a balsamic drizzle. It arrived quickly as was high quality. The Beet salad wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. The fruitti di mare was very good with a lot of seafood including clams, mussels, shrimp and scallops. For $65 + tip I feel it was a pretty good value and I would go back though I would not order the bruschetta again.
Great time at Popi's. Service good food good and location good. Was going to see Rolling Stones concert. Our waiter was attentive had plenty of time for concert. Definitely would come back.
Have been there several times - always great food and service
Perfect for so many occasions, love going before a concert.
The service was spot on.
food and service is always top notch. the veal saltimbocca was outstanding
The wait staff is friendly and courteous. The food is delicious, fresh and served to order.
On just about the hottest day on record, Popi's has a parking lot, air conditioning, wonderful service and excellent food. Forgetting about the weather, Popi's has all of the other things, all the time. We enjoyed gnocchi, lamb chops, chicken with seafood, limoncello gelato, lemon cake, chicken marsala and veal. All was wonderful.
We will return!
Great place - nice atmosphere, great staff and awesome lemon cake.
Good menu. Great location if you’re staying near the airport. The only negative was the pasta could have been a bit more al dente. Otherwise it was great!
The Veal Chop was just a work of art, tender and seasoned perfectly. The blackened Mahi-Mahi was incredible and the grilled calamari was buttery deliciousness.
The food was very good. Especially the homemade gnocchi. Enjoyed the blackened swordfish as well.
We call this spot-Popi’s our hidden treasure. We look forward to an event in Philadelphia and our must stop place for dinner- Popi’s.
Singer is great Saturday nights too!!
The food was Italian, Fresh, and Delicious. Served with a smile and skill,
Taylor our waitress was a real sweetheart she was so pleasant. She explained all the specials in great detail we also had dessert and coffee afterwards she explained the dessert menu. The only thing I thought she may have done was to tell us the prices the desserts were a little bit more expensive than we thought we did not know until we got the bill
We were moved twice once we were seated. Marching through restaurant with menus and two children is not a good start. Food took 1 hour and 45 minutes to arrive. It was good, but we had to hurry as we told waitress we had a show to catch 2 hours prior when we arrived 15 minutes early. We did our part. Unfortunately, they didn’t do their job. A shame.
So sorry for your poor experience. We strive to always give the best service and , obviously, failed on that day. I would like to prove to you we can do much better. Please give me a call. Velia Rucci, owner
I went to Popi's with a group of 6 prior to a concert. I ordered the steamed little neck clams and they were delicious. Our table also ordered the bruschetta. I didn't eat it, but the tomatoes didn't look very ripe and there were big chunks of onion on them. I ordered the Veal Cecelia (veal with eggplant and mozzarella). It came with potatoes and green beans. The beans were a little bit overdone for my taste and the potatoes were basically boiled potatoes with very little flavor. I wish they combined the veal dish with homemade pasta. The veal made up for the lack of flavor in the side dishes. There were multiple layers of veal with eggplant, tomatoes and cheese. The veal was tender and the sauce was light and did not overwhelm the flavors of the meat and eggplant. The serving was large enough that I didn't miss the sides and was full when I left. I would definitely go back to Popi's, but next time order a salad to start and ditch the sides.
Someone at my table ordered the gnocchi and it was light and airy with a light sauce. Delicious!
The egglant rollatini app was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the zucchini pasta and salmon special. Our server, Carmella was superb.
Prior to going to an event at the sports complex on Pattison Avenue, I made reservations at Popi's. It was my first time there and I will definitely go back.
Premises were very nice , food was so so , nothing special.
Has parking and close to Wells Fargo center. Not enough plus’s to return. Only one out of four of us finished our meal.
Hi Richard - I'm disappointed that our food didn't live up to your expectations. Not sure what you ordered, but that isn't important since we hope that all our offerings are excellent. Hopefully, you'll give us another try in the future. Please call me when you make another reservation to come in. Thanks..................Vel Velia Rucci, Owner
Food is good. Service is good. Noisy. Limited and expensive wine list.
It was extremely noisy. I had lobster ravioli and it made me sick. I was sick for two days.
Please give us a call so we can discuss this further. Thanks................Vel
GREAT food - go for the Chicken Alexander and swap it out for veal. Convenient off street parking too. This place is a place that i will go back to over and over and over again !
