The kitchen aims to cook very good produce, as simply as possible but with imagination and plenty of care. The menu is driven by what arrives from our suppliers each day.

Very enjoyable, highly recommended, laid back atmosphere and great food
Lovely lunch time menu with friendly service and delicious food. Good value given the quality.
Food with character and attitude. We came for dinner with my wife and were seated next to another couple - the space was tight and helped create a sense of casualness about it. The food was amazing - from the starters, through the mains and the desserts - very creative and meticulous.
A little bit expensive
My fourth visit to Portland and I was not disappointed. The lean, sleek ambience has been improved with the removal of the blackboards. Service was excellent and speedy - though I was dining early at a quiet start to service. Food was outstanding. Not over fussy, no smears of anything, just simply and beautifully presented. Lovely flavours. Something on a leaf was super, followed by plump sweetbreads. I then had lamb which was the essence of lamb flavoured perfectly cooked. That may sound obvious but lamb is rarely done this well. Excellent wines available by the glass, and a good elderflower martini kicked things off. Will be back.
We visited for an anniversary lunch treat and weren't disappointed. We had the tasting menu and wine flight and at £55 for the food it was excellent value - probably no better Michelin star value out there.
The menu was really creative and the wines well paired.
My only criticism was that the service was a bit on the rushed side and could have been a bit more relaxed.
Most amazing experience in London so far. Great service and amazing food
Exceptional food, wine, and service. Went to celebrate a special occasion and we were made feel incredibly special. Now my favourite restaurant in London. Would 100% recommend without hesitation or qualification.
I write one every time I go here. You're a robot aren't you. You don't really care what I think, unlike at the Portland, they always care about you when you go there.
A very good experience. The atmosphere at the restaurant was great and the service efficient, but relaxed and unobtrusive. The food was excellent and the wine menu both a good match and interesting.
Another great evening at Portland.
The tasting menu never fails to surprise and delight.
We went for our Wedding anniversary. Very nice to be welcome with an Anniversary card.
The service was quite quick which was good. We tried the tasting Menu. Everything was tasty except the Chicken which was a little bit dry.
Every else was good.
Perfect! Everything was top quality. No faults.
Overall excellent experience from reception through food, wine and service!😊
Excellent dinner recently at Portland Restaurant. We were tempted by the tasting menu but in the end opted for the a la carte. Of the snacks the squid buns and crab & turnip rolls stood out. The eel starter was also particularly good. Service was friendly and efficient.
Portland is one of my most favourite restaurants. If you appreciate 'taste' this is the place to be. Superb.
We've been to the portland before and the food was as stunning as I remembered. However, it feels like the restaurant has really settled down: everything was unhurried and felt much more relaxed. Bravo.
Excellent food and very friendly service.
Great food and services. A little expensive, but would recommend for special occasions
Very good restaurant, deserved 1 Michelin star! Very good value for money! Recommended!
Everything was very well done - amazing staff, very well executed menu and experience. Go!!
This small cosy restaurant is magical. The stuff is fun, friendly and super professional. The food once again was pure, honest, amazing. They use the best ingredients -I had the monkfish which was the best quality piece of monkfish I have ever tasted and the accompanying puree was just perfect! A friend had the chicken which was ( he said) absolutely delicious. As for the gluten free bread, no other restaurant or producer offers anything as good as this! Do not forget to try the drinks. I once tried the homemade lemonade which i loved. But i now have a new best ever favourite, the rhubarb induced gin and tonic. Fantastic!
Phenomenal dining experience and a wonderful waitstaff made for a great birthday dinner!
We’d heard really good things about the Portland and were a bit disappointed as although the food was nice, we didn’t think it was good value for money. Starters were about £15 and mains about £30. The menu was quite inventive but the end product didn’t taste as good as it sounded. The service was really good. Attentive but not stuffy.
Fantastic place. Brilliant staff. Lovely wine and every morsel a triumph
What a warm welcome our group of 3 received at Portland Restaurant. We were there to celebrate 2 birthdays and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place. The staff was warm and friendly without being intrusive, the food and drinks were delicious, inventive, and beautifully presented and the atmosphere was elegant yet casual. We would definitely return on our next visit to London and unreservedly recommend the Portland!
Great staff and service but food was disappointing
Portland never fails to impress. Not only was the tasting menu delicious and well-paced, but they went above and beyond by preparing a card signed by the kitchen staff for my birthday. Very thoughtful and an incredible personal touch.
I was delighted with my lunch experience. Exquisite food, delightful attentive service and lovely drinks to match. Pretty faultless overall! I shall return!
So nice to have a carefully prepared and thought out meal. Pollock was lifted beyond expectations by cooking. Simple setting, open kitchen, small, informal. Waiting staff were excellent - attentive but not intrusive. Husband was sick the next day though - was it the quail and sweetbreads (which I didn't have)?
The food was extremely good. It was extremely quiet (day after Easter) and the service was attentive without being obtrusive. Nice wine list and good recommendation from staff. A very enjoyable lunch.
I went here for a birthday lunch with 5 others. We went for the 3 course with a snack and the food was delicious! The service was great and i really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend!
Food needs seasoning but the staff was delightful
Portland has fantastic food, amazing service and a trendy atmosphere. Perfect for a date.
Very good food and staff, gave me the best birthday experience ever!
Amazing food in a casual setting. I dined alone and felt very comfortable. Highly recommended regardless of the occasion.
My apologies for such a delayed reply. Our meal at Portland was exceptional! Every dish was very good to excellent, a difficult task for any restaurant. We were celebrating my partner's birthday with a couple of old friends, one of whom had a number of dietary restrictions. The kitchen and the staff were 100% accommodating and the chefs were very nimble at adapting their menu to our friend's dietary needs. In addition, the restaurant really went out of their way to recognize the birthday. Thank You so much! I have been recommending your to all of my colleagues in the industry here in New York and San Francisco.
It was good food and good service but it's bit expensive restaurant if you order wine.
This was our second visit to Portland, with the other being about a year ago while on a business trip. We were running a bit late, so called ahead to make sure they did not give up our table. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to see that they had honored our request to sit side by side (it is not a large space). That was the beginning of a great experience for the night. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings and were well rewarded. Tasting menus can often be a bit too much food, but in this case it was a perfectly sized meal for my wife and I, a couple of 50+ year olds. The food is a nice selection of tastes and textures, all of it very fresh. The wine pairings were well thought out for being a complement to the food for each course. Everything was nicely paced and we did not feel rushed at all, despite a dinner time that was after 8 pm. The staff was very friendly and a lot of fun to talk to over the evening. Value for the money is quite high in our view, even though it's not cheap with wine included. It is a small space, so be sure to book ahead, particularly at peak times. Overall, highly recommended! Give it a try if you are in London, it's well worth your time!
I recommend the tasting menu, nice mix of flavours.
Enjoyed the atmosphere and the service.
Ideal for special occasions.
