The kitchen aims to cook very good produce, as simply as possible, but with imagination and plenty of care. The menu is driven by what arrives from our suppliers each day.
Our wine list is international and offers roughly three quarters of our wines by the glass
Absolutely delightful. Best meal we had in London. Appreciated the diversity of the menu and the high quality ingredients. Inventive, but not weird. Just delicious. Excellent service and location.
Portland remains one of the most underrated places to eat in London - menu is always interesting, service is nicely understated and the execution is excellent.
It's an expensive meal, but for special occasions never fails to deliver a great experience.
The chicken parfait and cured gurnard are exquisite, the play of flavours was bold and interesting. The service itself was very chilled and relax, they really give the homey vibe.
Went there for lunch and was amazed at the fantastic value for money you get there (£35 for 3 courses). The food was simply incredible, the wine delicious (very hard to pick given the length of the wine list!) and the service was attentive and friendly. What I really liked and differs from many Michelin starred restaurants was the relaxed atmosphere there. It proves you can have both a remarkable and unpretentious service! I will be back to try the tasting menu :-) Thanks again!
Delicious food and friendly service just ridiculously sized portions would go elsewhere at this price level.
Fantastic food in low key surroundings.
One of our favourites
Simply outstanding -the most exquisite flavours and utterly delicious dishes.
Really interesting beautiful food, flawless friendly service. Great place.
A really great discovery
Very relaxed atmosphere considering the really sophisticated and well balanced tasting menu. Definitely a memorable experience ! Best lamb I’ve ever had and really intriguing amuse bouche starters.
Excellent food and friendly discreet service. The dining room is quite austere (but stylish) and the tables are not far apart. I could imagine that it could get noisy although out was not when we were there.
Excellent food and service, this was a great lunch.
We had heard some time ago the Portland was something special & on a few occasions had walked in, with some hope of getting a table - always been unlucky & had on those occasions walked around the corner to their sister restaurant The Clipstone. There we have always had the most excellent of meals - with sparking service and always at a price point that was commensurate to such enjoyable time.
Sadly - most disappointingly - Portland was none of these.
We arrived @ the time we had booked, & were unattended to for more time than was appropriate. I was obliged to ask the very smiley waitress if she was none too busy to take our coats - whilst we stood and waited to be shown our table that was not ready.
We were duly sat. Then §ignored. No waiting staff, no menu, no water, nothing to really acknowledge we were in fact visible.
Eventually I was able to gain someone's attention and three menus were unceremoniously 'plokned' on our table. No careful explanation of the dishes - no recommendations, no enthusiastic suggestions, just three pieces of paper.
More time passed still we were feeling invisible. I was able to attract the attention of the coat collecting waitress & asked her if it was possible to now order - she smiled and said 'yes of course' & then walked away.
Finally a waiter appeared - he did not think it necessary to introduce himself, nor to advise on the menu, nor wine parings. We ordered and finally we were underway.
In the interval between ordering and the water & wine being organised, one might had thought the wait was to let the grapes fully ferment. It was apparent as to how noisy the place was. The ambient noise was such that it was not possible to speak in soft tones to my dining partner and the row clatter of pans, dishes and the overall hubub from the open kitchen and we were sat almost as far away as it was possible to sit was more than a little intrusive.
A unmemorable meal. Slow service. Tolerable food.-Poor value & will not return
great service, delicious amuse bouche & well executed dishes.
Beautiful location and also really nice food! I’m so happy for the service and I will come back!
Absolutely great! Staff is extremely friendly, food is amazing, we had vegetarian tasting menu, it did not disappoint
All dishes were very tasty!
The day was my birthday.
We had a marvelous time.
Superb food and great wine selection to go with it.
Great food and service.
Great food and amazing wine in cosy and not pretentious atmosphere.
Absolutely fantastic - very friendly and attentive front of house. Wonderful food.
Portland is fast becoming one of my favourite London restaurants. A short but really well curated menu provides enough choice and it is obvious that a huge amount of care goes into the construction of each dish. Add to that the really friendly and attentive service and it really does stand out. I've entertained a number of clients there and all have been impressed.
Very enjoyable experience, food was amazing.
Cosy place with unique and excellent food. Service is slightly slow but we have no issue. Will go again and highly recommended. Good value for money. A wee gastronomic gem!
One waitress standing at the door wasn’t too friendly almost giving me a dirty look as I walked in. Other than that everyone was extremely friendly and really looked after us especially our waiter who went out of his way to get me a small glass of orange wine. Food was amazing...and impressive seeing how well those in the kitchen worker well together in such a small space.
Excellent food , nice variety and great team
Will come back
4 of us had dinner there, we all have food intolerance / preference (two dairy intolerant and 2 pescaterians) that usually causes major chaos in many places so we informed the restaurant in advance . They have created a very fuss free (no added dairy replacement nasties or mix ups between dishes) and extremely enjoyable set tasting menu for us. Service was excellent, attentive and precise but not pushy. It was an amazing evening and a thoroughly delicious meal. Can highly recommend to anybody who enjoys honest cooking paired with exceptional culinary skills in a fuss free environment. Well done for all the team!
Fantastic new addition to the restaurant scene in London. Amazing food and great service. Scallops were sublime. Pork with pumpkin, rhubarb tart with ginger ice cream. Great.
Fabulous food, served by a lovely team who were so friendly.
The food is outstanding and the service great. The dishes are really different, obviously made with top ingredients by excellent chefs.
We all liked the restaurant, food was exceptional, service very good
... the best restaurant in this part of London without question, superb food, subtle decor and the finest staff.
This was our second visit to Portland (it has been a year between visits - both times for lunch) and the food and experience was extremely good *yet again. Well prepared and presented food, with well paired flavours and deliciousness. Do try the snacks before the first course - especially the smoked cod's roe tartlet - my mouth is watering at the thought!. And any dish with mushrooms. The team here are friendly, efficient and accommodating.
The starting prices for wine are pricy (it is central London), but there was a good selection and the bottles we consumed were excellent. If you are of the generation that expects large portion sizes (quantity as opposed to quality) then this is not the restaurant for you. The food, as I said before, was delicious and perfectly portioned, with enough over four courses to ensure you are full, but not "stuffed". So please do go (we will be going again soon).
As our visit was a Saturday in January, the Restaurant was not full, but buzzy and jovial (it would be interesting to see if all the tables were full how the noise level would be for those hard of hearing).
Excellent food & service with a laid back almost casual vibe
Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and friendly service until the end of the meal when we were served a very tasty rhubarb and brown butter tart in an impenetrable pastry case - so difficult was it to cut into that I nearly lost it from my plate on a number of occasions. We didn’t complain as the tart did taste good and we wanted to finish it but the staff could obviously see us struggling and decided, rather than ask if everything was ok (as they had throughout the meal), to pretend as though nothing was wrong and avoided interacting with us as much as possible for the rest of the meal. Bit of a disappointing end to what had initially been a lovely birthday dinner for my husband and suddenly made it feel less worth the £200+ bill.
Another great meal the food has really improved under Theo Clench
Portland had been on our list for a while, so the 4 of us were quite excited when the date rolled around. We each had a starter, main and a dessert. We all agreed that while the scallop starter was amazing as was the amuse bouche, everything else was “just ok”. It will not be on the list for return.
Chose the Portland for lunch with the wife, and couldn't be happier that we did. Everything, from the service through to the food and drink and the atmosphere, was faultless. The staff were incredible throughout, and though I've eaten at quite a few Michelin starred restaurants, the guys in the kitchen came out with some of the best food I've ever eaten. Could not recommend this place more highly.
Highly recommended restaurant ever!
Warm welcoming staff and brilliant food:) It's an excellent experience in my anniversary Thank you so much
