The kitchen aims to cook very good produce, as simply as possible but with imagination and plenty of care. The menu is driven by what arrives from our suppliers each day.
Our wine list is international and offers roughly three quarters of our wines by the glass
What Insiders Are Saying
Portland is a great restaurant in the vein of so many in London that focus on simple ingredients and offer a reasonably priced tasting menu.
We all had the tasting menu. This is well thought out. Started with a small tomato soup which had a lemon grass foam. Excellent. A few more nibbles, chicken skin with parfait, prawn toast and some pickled veg. All good. Moved onto mackerel with daikon followed by pollock with samphire
Meat was lamb in three cuts with aubergine. Pre dessert followed by dessert of strawberries ,ice cream crumble and white chocolate tuile.
A fine finish to the meal
No criticism at all with good service and friendly staff. Good value as well. All in for just under a £100 each including two bottles of wine and tip.
Dining area is the only thing I would improve by having a new floor. Current one somewhat dingy.
Brilliantly eclectic combinations that taste great, sensible portions (ie not too big) and excellent service.
Delicious food and incredible service. Such a great restaurant. Make sure you get the chicken wings stuffed with bone marrow, and the chocolate and coffee dessert.
It was our anniversary and we got a hand signed cars congratulating us from all the staff. Such a lovely tough on arrival. We will be back for more that I am sure of. Thanks for our great waitress who made some really great recommendations (including some rather delicious Greek wine) and was super helpful and kind.
All in all a lovely evening with beautifully presented food
We had a delicious meal with caring service and excellent wine
Stunning meal. Amazing service lovely cosy place!
Outstanding food relying mostly on British staple ingredients with a good balance of European influences. Lovely service, patient with our party of adults and children.
Fantastic food every time we’ve been, and the service is always perfect - not too overbearing, but suitably attentive. The chicken skins are a must-order.
We had a truly fantastic experience at Portland and will certainly be back. The atmosphere was warm and unpretentious, the music was unobtrusive and enabled conversation, the service was attentive and welcoming and the food was outstanding. We had the tasting menu and each dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better. Furthermore, we both have complicated dietary requirements. We mentioned this to the restaurant when we made our booking and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Honestly, no restaurant has made such great efforts and it added a huge amount to our experience that we were able to fully trust that we could eat each dish. Overall, we enjoyed every aspect of our meal and highly recommend.
Thank you to everyone at the Portland for an amazing evening.
We had the tasting menu paired with wines. Just an outstanding meal, course after course of taste and texture that delighted the palate and left us wanting to ask for each dish again!!!
We will be back and back and back again!
Thank you all!
Amazing as always, the food is fantastic. Also the bread is the best I've tried!
As usual an outstanding meal at Portland, always interesting flavour combinations, beautifully presented and delicious
Had wonderful evening & service was fantastic.
The general manager was serving us and did an amazing job at recommending a great selection of wines for every dish.
It was a nice touch that the chef himself served us our mains and added a very personal feel. Great place to dine .
Desert is also not a dish to miss !
Fantastic service from the waiters, and really attentive and classy approach to celebrating birthdays. The food is unlike anywhere else and very memorable.
Most definitely will return at some point.
We have visited quite a few times , and this is the first time that one of the dishes was not 100% . My meal was delicious having the pigeon and then the sea bass . My wife had the burrata which she loved but her lamb was tough . Even though she left most of it , no questions were asked which is unusual in this restaurant.
We love this restaurant because the food is normally superb and we love the informality .
We will go back again .
We had a wonderful meal at Portland today. The food was just right- special without being pretentious- and the ambience was very tasteful without being stuffy! Highly recommend !
Beautiful food and nice staff. Watch the bill though we were originally charged£301 instead of £186
Very nice! Good service for a social occasion. Only issue was that the air conditioning was not cold enough on the day.
Excellent cuisine, beautifully presented and Alix was delightful!
Amazing Michelin star food
Great value (£35 for a three course lunch menu is incredible!)
Portland is a firm favourite: food is focused on excellent British produce cooked in interesting ways, with a broad and eclectic wine list. The staff are welcoming and genuinely nice people. Marvellous grown up dinners are to be had here.
Great wine recommendations and the pithivier of duck and pigeon to share was delicious!
We've dined here a number of times while visiting London and always return when in town. We've done the tasting menu with wine pairings each time and each time around it has been great. Service is outstanding and friendly. The food is both local and fresh and beautifully prepared and plated. For this quality meal, the price is at a good price point. Be sure and book to get a seat, since it's a small place and can be pretty busy. Highly recommended!
Great ice cube delivery. Merci
Had a fabulous evening at Portland. It was my girlfriends birthday and our waitress and the manager went above and beyond to make sure we had a seamless and delightful meal. We had the tasting menu with the drink pairing and we were seriously blown away by the quality of the food, wine and service! We will be returning soon that's for sure, thank you team Portland!
Went to Portland for our first wedding anniversary. The whole tasting menu took about three hours and every single course was a new experience. We even got a sweet card from the team!
Delicious! I would love to go again. Wines host have quite a mark up!
Very nice tasting food. A balanced flavour combination with pure products. Very friendly service and good explanation of the wines, which were also surprisingly and were adding something to the dishes. Nice open kitchen.
The only thing that bordered me a bit was the tempo in which the dishes followed up to each other, that was really a bit to fast.
Even if I asked to slow down a bit I finished my tasting menu within two hours.
All together, a fine experience and I can recommend this restaurant to food lovers!
Success for the future!
Great food - every course was delicious. Staff are lovely and friendly while still being professional. Really lovely ambiance as well.
Meal for two came to £150
Birthday celebration lunch with my mother. Excellent food albeit modest portions with lovely service. Surprisingly quiet for a Friday afternoon. Hopefully this is not a sign of lack of custom...
I come here fairly often. the last time caught the restaurant on form.
everything was delicious.
Great service, they placed a birthday card on our table, since it was my wife’s birthday. The food was one of the best of our trip.
Interesting food, well prepared. Friendly approachable service.
Best meal there ever
Fabulous and imaginative cuisine, very friendly and good service. Only 2 problems - noise level is too high and air conditioning too cold.
Very sorry to hear that Coline. We do try and maintain an equilibrium for all our guests, but can only apologise wholeheartedly if it affected your meal with us. I will make a note to always sit you in the quietest possible section in future. Thank you very much for your kind words on the food & service We look forward to seeing you again soon Patrick
We loved it, as always......it was a brilliant place to take an Australian friend.
I have been going to this restaurant since it opened.. although at the start it used to be incredibly difficult to get a table..
The food remains at the very high standard that it set for itself.. and quickly gained the reputation of being, since it opened..
Snacks are so good.. why don't more restaurants do this.. I guess they do in the form of amusebouches.. we had the chicken skin, the langoustine toasts and the gouda financier were delicious..
Starters kept the high standards and we had asparagus and chicken tartlet and some awesome gnochi with goats curd lard and courgettes.. I loved my main course.. smoked ricotta with some sort of pasta and the suckling pig was very tasty.. served in a rather innotive manner..
Desserts were a triumph with gariguette straweberries with a mascapone icecream.. just wonderful..
They have a tremendous selection of wines by the glass and i had a sicilian white.. a cracking St Romain.. which had beautiful rich nose and a fantastic long finish.. and I even snuck in an auslese to accompany the strawberries.
a special word to the service.. it was informative.. efficient.. friendly and fun..
thank goodness it's easier to get a table now.. FABULOUS
We both went for the tasting menu with wines. Overall probably one if the best tasting menus we have ever had. The food was excellent with the right balance between light but incredibly complex flavours.
Portion sizes all good.
The wines were an excellent pairing.
Good value for Michelin tasting in London.
Great food, amazing wine pairing and good service. Great night!
